You mean more than 36 total per server? I don't think it's in the cards right now, too many other things to work on that have higher priority.
-
First slot, Alpha, talk to Mender Ramiel in Ouroboros. Ask for a portal anywhere it's crowded if you don't have access to Ouroboros.
After you do Mender Ramiel's mini little arc, you'll be set to get Incarnate powers. You'll need to get Notice of the Well eventually from the Weekly Strike Target (a Task Force that changes every week) and the shards you get can be used to craft Alpha slot powers.
Also get on the various Trials that we have now, which are for the other four incarnate slots available. You'll need both XP and the new components from those trials to open new powers and craft them. -
-
Quote:Thanks for all the input! =) I've (well we really, 'cause I dl'ed the trial to both my computer and my husbands.) actually been making a character for awhile and played through the tutorial.
Good for you, and welcome.
The next thing to think about I'd say is to visit the forum of whatever server you decide to call home, say "Hi" and ask about global channels. Those global channels will get you effectively in a "guild" of 2500 people and will greatly increase your chances of teaming, getting on Task Forces, Trials and Raids, and having fun in general.
Good luck! -
Disagree here. 90 seconds is probably too long for me personally to wait. I'm talking mostly about preformed leagues here, where only a few people might be added from the queue to a league.
If we're talking about PUG leagues with the minimum number of people, then sure waiting for more folks makes more sense. A good target in my opinion would be about half way between the minimum and the maximum number of folks for a given Trial/team/whatever. Waiting 5 minutes after you get minimum number of players would be fine then. -
Quote:One note about the server list in game.
At the top is last server accessed (which won't apply the first time you log in) and from there least to most load.
This point should be repeated for emphasis. When you log in, the top server on the list is the one you logged into last.
Then the server list goes from least population (least load) to greatest population (greatest load). Which means that if you pick one of the servers high on the list when you first log in, you'll be picking a light population server.
The really high pop servers are Freedom and Virtue down on the bottom of the list. They tend to be a bit laggy and sometimes you can't log in because the load is too high, but if you're really worried about population then these servers tend to be crawling with players.
Then just above the those two on the bottom of server list are the medium population servers. Those servers vary a bit depending on time of day but they are a very good option, imo, since they give you a balance of good populations with out being quite as busy as Freedom and Virtue.
Also, Virtue is the unofficial role-play server, so don't be surprised if you see a lot of folks using double ((parenthesis)) on that server. -
Don't know when this was posted but here it is:
JULY 2011
July 5th to July 11th - The Sky is Falling (from Admiral Sutter in Independence Port) / The Fire and the Flames (from Mortimer Kal in Sharkhead Isle)
July 12th to July 18th - Terra Volta (44-50) (from Major Richard Flagg in Peregrine Island) / Tree of Thorns (44-50) (from Ractespriel in the Nerva Archipelago)
July 19th to July 25th - Time’s Arrow (from Imperious in Cimerora)
July 26th to August 1st - The Praetorian Offensive (from Tin Mage Mark II in the Rikti War Zone) -
Quote:Hi all,
Completely and utterly new to this game! Would anyone like to take me under their wing and learn the ropes? Currently playing around on Champion server (is this a good choice?) with my little lvl 3. Would massively appreciate any advice/help for a COMPLETE newbie
Thanks
Champion is a pretty friendly server overall. You can use the Help channel and people will answer questions. I monitor it myself, and I've seen plenty of other folks answer questions too.
Just look at your chat pane in the bottom left there. There's a tab labeled "Help." Click on that, make sure the chat prompt changes to "Help:" and type away.
If the chat prompt doesn't change to "Help:" then you've probably locked it in some other channel (like "Team"). Click on the very small buttons just above the chat input line to switch it. Or use the slash-command /hc at any time to access the Help channel.
If you need help with something in particular, you can often get folks to come to you for assistance. That Help channel is server wide so it's better than using /broadcast or something similar. It hits all zones, not just the zone you're in. -

Oh I wasn't accusing you of being rabidly anti-team. There's some other folks on these forums who seem that way. I figured you just didn't know how much more effective the trials were.
And I don't blame you about be nervous with your Tanker. My first "fun" toon was a tanker, and I get kinda stressed about it too. The only way to learn though is to practice it. Just sayin'. -
Quote:HOWEVER....
City of Heroes ( including COV ) can now be bought for a buck on Amazon.
It makes a great Premium account gift to friends that want to play "City of Heroes: Freedom" for free each month in the near future, and will allow them to have more than the two character slots totally free accounts will have ...
( I think?)
Just make sure the box has not been opened. Because if the box has been opened, then it's likely that the code has been used. Descriptions like "played once" tip you off that the code is no good. -
Quote:That's like two all day marathons, in my opinion, but it's probably do-able. I usually run at most a couple of Trails per day before RL intervenes, so my progress has been a lot slower.Great googly moogly.... you got all that in just a couple days?
Quote:Alrighty then... this soloing stuff for shards is for the birds. I need to run me some of these trials on my tanker (and get other characters up to level 50). -
Quote:Yes, mostly this. Also, you might get more than on opinion on how to slot your character, and you might want to actually get to 50 to see how it plays, before you decide to go with one concept over another.IOs are still good to buy, just not absolutely necessary
also you will save money in the long run if you buy IOs at level 30+ and then just save up, because IOs will never degrade
You'll do fine with regular SOs if you want to save your cash. (With Tip missions though, there isn't much reason to be short on cash). Simple slotting with IOs or IO sets will work for now if you want to start learning the system. But save the really expensive stuff for later, after you've learned more and decided for yourself what to do. It's nothing you have to tackle right away. -
For actual leveling, I think I'd recommend taking both Swipe and Strike early on in addition to Poison Dart, so that you have something to kill with. You have probably over slotted Follow Up. I'd go like one or two Acc and then one Recharge.
Don't forget you have a second build now that you can use to "respec" if you need to. Also VEATs get a "free" respec at level 24, so you can re-choose all your powers then, if you like. So if you want to get rid of Swipe (for example) later, you can.
Level 2: Health -- Heal-I(A), Heal-I(9), Heal-I(17)
Move one slot here to Stamina. Use the Miracle and Numina unique to get the +Recovery bonus.
Level 2: Stamina -- EndMod-I(A), EndMod-I(5), EndMod-I(17)
Add one slot here from Health, and add the Performance Shifter Proc here. Between this and the bonuses from Miracle and Numina, you may not need Conserve Power. That'll free those power choices up for something else. -
Broad Sword & Dark Armor yes?
I could see grabbing either Medicine (for Aid Self) or Fighting (for Tough) in place of Fitness.
Slotting DA has got a LOT more technical since IO sets. However for leveling you don't need to worry about it. Ask, but reserve judgement until 50. As for where you should be: doing WST for great justice. -
I used to crash during mothership raids a lot, until I lowered my graphics settings. Drop them to performance, or minimum if necessary.
-
If you want to start with a soft capped Fort build, here's one I've been posting. It works very well, and I went Musculature & Rebirth with it to give it even more punch. It's fairly cheap too. The only thing I recommend is replacing Aim with something else, it's pretty useless.

10, but only 5 are available right now. The rest are still locked up.
Quote:How many +levels can you get because I see people outside of trials with 50+1, is there a limit to the powers you can get?
Quote:whats the list of incarnate powers that are available?
So basically 5 x 4 = 20, but there's a lot more little nuances baked in there.
Quote:how long does it take, is there a noticeable effect on character performance, pve and pvp wise etc.
As for how long, it takes a fair bit of grinding to get each one. I'd assume it takes about 4 Trials for each slot. And about 3 per "Tier" of each power. So 4 x 5 = 20 Trials to unlock all slots, and then let's say you're only interested in Tier 3, 5 x 3 x 3 = around 45 Trials to get one Tier 3 for each slot.
But those don't add, because you're getting drops when you are working on unlocking slots. And you unlock one at a time, so like 4 Trials, then craft a little, and then 4 more, craft some more, etc. So 45 is like the upper maximum assuming you don't make a mistake and decide to craft something different. But it's about 4 Trials to get started with your first slot.
If you want more Tier 3 powers to swap out (or if you decide you made a mistake and want to work on a different power), add another 3 x 3 = 9 Trials for a new Tier 3. If you want the Tier 4, add about 3 x 4 = 12 Trials for each (Tier 4 takes more than double the amount of work). You may have to spend a few million in Inf and some "Threads" (new XP from Trials) to get certain items if your drops for the Trials are unlucky. Or do a couple more Trials. -
Oh, look, we found a use for Stalkers. Measuring tape.
-
That's what I did. It's quite easy to do now with Tips. Just posted my build above in the "Yet Another Widow Build Thread" by Sun_Runner.
-
Oh yeah.
I've decided that Aim is useless on this build. Please replace it with something else. -
OK here's my build.
Sorry, I did use Oblits in Psyic Wail. The 6th slot you can make anything. I used EndRedux just so I have enough End to fire it off. With Musculature, my final Damage bonus is 122%. That's before the double Assault.
Note that the 98% recharge is before Hasten. I actually have about 168% recharge, enough to perma both Hasten and Mind Link. The +45% Accuracy is a nice bonus too.
Note that is is deliberately a control heavy, ranged, team build. I made no attempt to fit melee powers in this build. Maybe next one...

I typically say "Fort" for Fortunata's and "Widow" for Night Widows. This is a Fort. That said...
Srsly?
Level 6: Tactical Training: Maneuvers -- RedFtn-Def/EndRdx(A), RedFtn-Def/Rchg(19), RedFtn-EndRdx/Rchg(21), RedFtn-Def/EndRdx/Rchg(21), RedFtn-Def(23)
On a Fort, my goal is to get Mind Link permanent. That provides way more Def than set IO bonuses. I four slotted this, iirc. One plain old EndRedux IO and three Def IOs for the most amount of Def you can get in four slots.
Level 12: Dominate -- BasGaze-Acc/Hold(A), BasGaze-Acc/Rchg(23), BasGaze-Acc/EndRdx/Rchg/Hold(25), BasGaze-EndRdx/Rchg/Hold(25), Lock-%Hold(27)
I used 4 of the Basilisk Gaze for the recharge bonus, then added two plain Damage IO. That gets the Damage bonus up to about 83%. You shouldn't take any less of a bonus if you aren't going Musculature. This is a high damage power, not a hold.
Level 16: Tactical Training: Assault
I took TT: Assault and Leadership: Assault much later. You want them both stacked to provide a good damage bonus, imo.
Level 20: Mask Presence -- RedFtn-Def/EndRdx(A), RedFtn-Def/Rchg(29), RedFtn-EndRdx/Rchg(31), RedFtn-Def/EndRdx/Rchg(31), RedFtn-Def(31)
Overslotted, imo. I think I had one EndRedux and one LotG: Def/+Recharge. It's basically just a mule for the Lotg, although the Stealth is handy. BTW if you go Super Speed in stead of Fly you save a power choice and the Stealth in Super Speed stacks with Mask Presence. It's quite nice.
Level 22: Foresight -- RedFtn-Def/EndRdx(A), RedFtn-Def/Rchg(33), RedFtn-EndRdx/Rchg(33), RedFtn-Def/EndRdx/Rchg(33), RedFtn-Def(34)
I just used three Def IOs here to boos the total defense to the max, with out wasting too many slots.
Level 24: Mind Link -- AdjTgt-Rchg(A), LkGmblr-Def/Rchg(34), RedFtn-Def/Rchg(34)
Underslotted. Get at least four /Recharge IOs in here. I added a 5th slot for one more LotG: Def/+Recharge. I'm concerned that Mind Link won't ever be perma if it's slotted like this.
Level 30: Maneuvers -- RedFtn-Def/EndRdx(A), RedFtn-Def/Rchg(39), RedFtn-EndRdx/Rchg(39), RedFtn-Def/EndRdx/Rchg(39), RedFtn-Def(40)
I used LotG here: One LotG: Def/+Recharge and then three more just to get one set bonus (the +Acc is handy). The base value on Maneuvers is too low to worry about maxing it, so I just went for a little bonus and the set bonus.
Level 32: Psychic Wail -- Oblit-Dmg(A), Oblit-Acc/Rchg(40), Oblit-Dmg/Rchg(40), Oblit-Acc/Dmg/Rchg(42), Oblit-Acc/Dmg/EndRdx/Rchg(42), Oblit-%Dam(42)
This feels over slotted. I forget what I did, but I recall slotting for a recharge bonus. I'll check.
Level 38: Aura of Confusion -- Mlais-Acc/Rchg(A), Mlais-Dam%(43), Mlais-EndRdx/Conf(43), Mlais-Acc/EndRdx(43), Mlais-Conf/Rng(45), Mlais-Acc/Conf/Rchg(45)
Almost the only place where we agree.Although you have a Conf/Rng in there, and I don't think Range affects PBAOE. Just sayin'....
I'll post my build, which I did almost entirely with Tips. I had enough Recharge and Recovery to go Musculature instead of Spiritual or Cardiac. The results were well worth the time I spent doing those Tips, imo. And I didn't use any Epic or Patron Pools either.
