You could make it all easylike. Just put them all in a mission. You know that room in the tech labs where you enter the mission and it's a small antechamber with the (double) door to click and enter at the bottom of the ramp? Put them all in that one room.

IMO, anyone that gets upset about KB is simply not someone that is playing to laugh and have fun.

I could not care less if my AoE only hit one target because it went off after a big KB power, be it mine or another players, because I am too busy laughing at the flying bad guys.

My friends and I compete with each other to send things flying.
Ya know, I think I have a pretty long fuse, for the most part, but the other day, while on a TF with my brute, (Dark/fire, with a load of pbaoe powers), I learned what it is to truly hate another AT. Peacebringers, when I'm on my brute, and you can't control your godforsaken KB powers, I really, really despise you and your ilk.

So yes, as has been repeated many times, there are people out there for whom KB just makes the game LESS FUN. So you can have all the fun you want, but be aware that you may be making it less fun for others.

Also, if you play these ATs and have read the forums at all, you should be aware that this is not the first time that people have expressed that KB makes playing their particular AT more difficult and less enjoyable, so to say that anyone is 'unfun' for disliking your KB powers is foolishly shortsighted at best and jerkhackish at worst.
  3. I know a LOT of people are going to be extremely happy with these additions. Me, I am trying to keep the alts under control... but rad/fire defenders? Dark blasters?? Katana and/or regen brutes? Wow.

"The article says that the larger you make it, the more efficient it is at lifting weight."

Hmm. that goes against everything I ever learned in elementary Mechanical Engineering, but I never earned the full degree, so I could be wrong. If it's strictly true, (which I seriously doubt), you could make it arbitrarily big, and increase the efficiency to nearly 100%. So that makes no sense to me.

It may be the case that it increases up to a certain point very close to the starting point, but I doubt even that.

Also, 'contrarotating cylindrical turbines' seems like a fancy way of saying ducted fans.

I find these two passages interesting:
"The D-Dalus is also so simple mechanically that it needs little maintenance and requires no more maintenance expertise than an auto mechanic. "

    and

"The forces on the blade pivots are understandably huge, and in initial testing it was found that all available bearings failed, so inventor Meinhard Schwaiger, who already has more than 150 patents to his name, knuckled down and invented (and patented) his own, near-frictionless swivel-bearing to cope with the stresses."

Sounds like these would be at serious odds to each other.

I play all AT's except Tanks. However, I'll never enjoy any AT as much as I do Blasters. I think this is because I learned the game with a Blaster. My 1st and oldest toon is a Blaster. Made for a rough learning curve but was very rewarding afterwards. Sadly, it proved to be limiting in my future enjoyment of melee AT's. With Blasters I have to think on my feet and use tactics and skill to survive. I have to know when to attack and when to hold back. I have to use LoS and KB to leverage the battle. In short I have to be active, very active on Blasters. Well almost, keeping an 8 man invincible team alive on my Empath around level 14 proved to be very satisfying.

When I try to play a scrapper... It gets boring really really quickly. To the point of me drifting to sleep in missions sometimes. The repetitive click click click recycle of attacks without fear of my life keeping me alert means I just can't get that into any AT with defense. I need to be kept on my toes at all times. I need to feel that at any moment the tide could turn and sweep me under if I lose focus. I just don't get that rush of adrenaline from any AT other than Blasters.

Because that's how I learned the game.
So how did you learn the game? Was it on a support toon? If so, there's your answer.
I had this same experience... almost. Because after a couple of years of playing squishies (blasters and controllers), I tried a dark/fire brute... and that was less squishy (though among brutes, one of the squishier ones...) and I liked it a lot...

but then I tired a Stone/Stone tank. And it became one of my favorite ATs. I love tanking on Hami raids, and being nigh-indestructible most everywhere else. But my 'active defense' training from starting as an archery/ice blaster (I <3 Ice patch!!!) was a great introduction to playing the game, and I would suggest everyone start as a squishie rather than a tank or scrapper - those are what I would consider Easy Mode.

Weapons Samuel Tow would approve of, but I for one shall not unless the following weapon customization is available for it:

A downsized version of Jurassik's car hammer in the form of a Motorcycle hammer. Further more, the motorcycle must be Ducati or Harley.

What do you folks think? I was thinking it could be secured on pipes and steel rebar since PCs are bit small for full on girders.
You could just make it a Vespa hammer (the moped, not the car, iirc the names...) (and not the princess either, for that matter! )
  8. I still want a girder for my Stone tank to swing...

We, the superheroes of Paragon City, are what will make this work. And I don't mean we as in me and you and every other you reading this. I mean we as a community.

People come to this game to be superheroes, but they stay for the community. These new Freepers or Freeks or whatever you want to call them are going to come here to get in some tights and knock some people around. They'll have a blast, we know they will, because this game is fun. At the end of the day, though, you can only bust so many skulls by yourself. They're going to look for more reason to stay.

And they will find it in our community! But only if you show them. Stay on your home server and engage as many of these freeks as you can. Take them on high level teams, show them what characters are capable of, what fun can be had spending time with friends. Lead them on low level TFs, show them the joys of supersidekicking and never leaving friends behind because you're too high level. Show them that you don't need to exclude a friend because you never need a tank or a healer or a DPSer or anything else for that last spot. That they only need superheroes. Or supervillains. Or super rogues and vigilantes and praetorians and aliens and angels and demons and even catgirls. Let them know that you just need to be with friends and you can accomplish anything.

Show them these things, and they'll fall in love with this community just like you did. Just like I did. The game will be able to grow and prosper, which leads to more development resources, which leads to a better game experience for all of us.

I ask you just one more thing before I end this post.

    Hold me to the same.
Well put, All for it! Events, contests, etc. for new players would be great!

    Awesome Victory

Aw, Penny! Sad to see you going. I suspect you'll be back, though... but in any case, I've enjoyed playing with you, and I hope you have lots of fun and success outside the game!!

    Wedding Fun

Grats, welcome to the club! Great pics, esp. Violet.
  13. I think I like this. I may be swayed with more info, but it looks good so far, because current players keep all the benefits.

Also, that Seed of Hamidon thing is gross, and I want to destroy it already. Eew.

  15. All the advice given here is good. My 2 cents: read some of the OLDER powerset guides. Understand, some of the info there is no longer valid, but it will give you an idea of some of the more basic concepts behind the powersets and the way they interact.

Once you can grasp that stuff, other concepts become much easier to understand in terms of the way this game works (as opposed to any other games).
  16. Thanks for the update, guys, it's a great tool!

    Dps

I think what you might want to take away from this discussion is the following:
In this game (I'm assuming you're new, so welcome!), unlike other games, a question like, "How do I get the max DPS" is not really the right question to ask. The better question might be, "How can I be most effective, in a general/team/solo/on TFs/On Incarnate content/leveling up/after L50/in PvP/in PvE (or whatever floats your boat)..."

Because, as many people have pointed out, balance is a key concept in this game (and is achieved to varying degrees in different aspects). And in many cases, the tradeoffs for +dps often cost you the very dps you seek.

One other takeaway: Often, the simplest questions have complex answers, both in general, and in this game in particular.
  18. I use it a lot myself... when I can't access Mids (erm, work), or when I want tables of data for 'Excellage' (tm). But of course, I use the numbers a 'rule of thumb' rather than gospel truth, so there is that.

I find Mids clumsy for conceptualizing and looking for patterns in set bonuses, etc. (hence I use Excel for that), but Mids is invaluable for finalizing builds and getting as close to real numbers as possible.

    Team Arena

Masque is running a PvP University currently (Arena, Victory server). It's a learning environment, not a league.

We occasionally have kickball matches, and the power level is attenuated (no PVP IOs, or Purple sets, to make it more casual friendly), so it's a 'different' kind of Arena PvP.

So yes, it still exists, but it's not what it used to be.

Depending on how things are setup, the human body can take a fair bit of punishment when it comes to decceleration. At the extreme end, there was a case where a formula one driver sustained a 200g smack into a wall and survived.

Also you can design active attributes into the armor like air brakes, Supes smacks you and you go flying, the armor could deploy panels creating alot of drag slowing it down to managable levels (well provided there is enough space).
I can see sustaining one 200g smack into a wall, lucky guy. But more than one, and dependably? Not so sure about that.

A force field would be nice, if it existed. Air brakes... not sure they'd be useful within 10 feet, or even 50. And that assumes they weren't even deformed enough to prevent their deployment...

The materials idea, again, if a material existed, it might help... but again, repeated concussions at the level of football hits cause long term Traumatic Brain Injury; we may be talking 10-100x these forces over and over and over.

I still think any solution is significantly beyond what we can imagine today, and akin to magic (by which I mean tech that isn't easily linkable to current tech.)

Also, forgive my ignorance, but someone above mentioned that the grey hulk wsa semi-immune to alcohol - is there a connection to Supes? (<--noob.)
  21. Yeah... in fact, there was a small sliver of fear in some of those scientists' minds that the first atomic bomb would actually destroy the Earth in a cataclysmic runaway chain fusion reaction.

Hahaha... haha... ha... <slowly sinking in...> ahem.
  22. Just remember, some of the best and most important Rock music came from the 70's. One word: QUEEN. /thread

I used to hate 70's disco music for a looong time. But some of it is very 'good' music (well produced and made by some skilled musicians) - I just can't listen to it for extended periods. ABBA is quite good, imo, and what about Earth, Wind & Fire?

And let's not forget the Funk that also came out of the 70's. It wasn't the terrible sonic wasteland that it is made out to be. This list isn't a complete phail, is it?

But it's true, like in any era, there are sounds from the 70's that hurt my ears.
