  1. I dont want to be too snarky, and this is not directed at you, Geko, or anyone in particular:

    Please read this

    Especially the Marshmallow experiment.

Let's all relax, people. there's a lot of info to come, and a long time to wait. Each piece of info released, well, you can see on the boards already that there are people out there who already know ‘exactly’ how things will work, and how ‘it will destroy the game,’ and how ‘everything the devs are doing is wrong’, and etc., etc., etc…

Nothing good can come of announcing too early – initial excitement will change to ennui, then negativity. It's happening as we speak with what little has been announced already.

Someone said that people won’t test stuff if they’ve already decided ‘it will suxx.’ I agree, and this is a prime reason to keep everything close to the vest until we are much closer.

"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

Oh, and by the way, War Witch, I love the changes, and I’m looking forward to playing in the Hollows again! I liked it the first time I went there, I found good PuGs and they taught me a little, but I haven’t been back because of the unfriendliness. Thanks!
  2. Welcome Blue Steel... Are you related to Le Tigre, or, Ferrari?

And greetings to you too, Mynx!

Glad to have you both about. Love this game!
  3. Most people didn't apparently care about what you are referring to, Dasher.

"Hey, your new car comes with 10 free pounds of whale blubber!" (sincerest apologies to Eskimos.)

"Oops, sorry, we have no whale blubber. But, we can make your car work much better... would you like that instead?"

Yeah, I'll take that over whale blubber anyday.
  4. TY Devs! Lyin' bastages! You said no VEATs! We luv you anyway!
  5. This is my First and Only MMO. I am SO glad I didn't start with one of those - might have left and never come back! Thanks for summarizing this. I hope some magazine picks it up and publishes it somewhere.

RoA, as absolutely gorgeous and wonderful as it is, isn't a fine cup of coffee or night with a beautiful partner. Stop trying to stretch it out and make it last, just shoot the darn thing!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Luminara, you have a lovely way with words.

That said, I will still keep my Ice Slick for the floppy-fun goodness that is watching Freakshow Tanks fall flat on their back.

But still, you are a 'trip'. ) Cookies for you and one of the best guides I have seen yet!
  7. may I suggest another set? (For when you miss)
    numpad7 "bind_load_file c:/weaken/weaken1.txt"
    numpad8 "bind_load_file c:/empower/empower1.txt"
    numpad9 "bind_load_file c:/vitals/vitals1.xt"
    numpad0 "bind_load_file c:/sweep/sweep1.txt"

It would reset the combo. This may not be practical... (because if youre working fast, you've already cued up attack #2 before you can tell if #1 hit...), but maybe it's worth a try?

(please check syntax, I may be goofy)
  8. One other point to add, I've read on other posts:

Sometimes it's bettter to slot Endurance reduction enhancements in click powers before slotting them in toggle powers.

This may or may not be true for specific powers, but in general, rather than blindly slotting an Endurance reduction enhancement in a toggle before a click power, the player may want to evaluate how much the click power costs them over time used vs. how much the toggle costs them.
  9. Ok, guys, a few things some people may be forgetting accidentally or on purpose:

Time is Money. (If anyone doesn’t agree with this, the rest won’t make sense. Devs gotta get paid, and all wages are, in the end, time based.)

It takes time to get people on the right page as to how to test, and how to test so that Devs can use their time most efficiently for this platform.

Time that is better spent on Testing, not training, or correcting, or coddling.

And it was said before, sarcastically, something like ‘the only qualifications Beta testers currently have is that they can follow directions.’ DUH! And hey, following directions is not a trivial skill, in case that was also overlooked. People get paid Big Bucks to write directions that people will follow! If you want to do something with your ‘Imagination’, try art or writing, very respectable vocations. Beta Testing is not for that!

If you REALLY want to be a Beta tester, (work for no money, btw) here’s a thought:
Send in your resume, stipulate your qualifications, and that you’re only looking to be a tester. Then, if and when you’re offered a spot, quit/take vacation from school/your job for a week, and stay up all day and night *Testing* (not playing, mind you, that is NOT what closed Beta is for!)

That would involve doing things repeatedly and logging all the results in spreadsheets, for proof, documenting your methods, consolidating all the data in a report, and submitting it in a timely fashion. Now I’m not saying all the testers do this, though I know that some DO, because I’ve seen it on the boards (Memphis Bill is an example that comes to mind), but if you want to get the best chances of how to get into the beta test, here it is, imho.

I agree that “community” is NOT what Beta Test is for. It is to get the software to run the best it can, within time constraints. They’re looking for serious problems with the software, and it’s better for a small group to do it.

I am continually surprised that people can be so selfish as to have no patience for the work that needs to be done. IT is WORK for NO MONEY PEOPLE! Go to your schools/jobs/etc, earn your very own money, and let the people doing this stuff exist in peace!

Let them do the work, keep your blasted pants on, and they’ll eventually release it to Live Beta. Then you can all go on about how stupid the katanas look, or how Willpower is the worst set ever, or on and on and on.

Hey Galadiman I found this in the faq of I11

    [ QUOTE ]
Question: I really want more info on this combo system is it just for dual blades or is it for ever melee power set or is it for all power sets?

Positron Says: It is the “secondary effect” for Dual Blades; it is just for that powerset. Other powersets have secondary effects already.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for finding that - wow, that may be a great addition, a very nice 'powerset' bonus. Methinks blasters may have even more to complain about re: defiance. Not trolling about that, just sayin'. (my first 50 was my Archery blaster, so I feel that pain too.)
  11. Just read the article.

    Wow.

Great looking issue, Devs. Thank you.
  12. I mentioned this a few pages ago, but I think it got lost in all the excitement about Power Customization:

    [ QUOTE ]
Any thoughts on this part of the posting?

"Dual Blades also uses a brutal new Combo system, where the order of your strikes can create new advantages for you to take down your foes!"

I find this very interesting... a definite departure from the current combat system. Are we looking at an entirely new way of considering combat?

  14. Of course, friend, but they can only do so much on their end. It behooves us all for users to make sure their systems are not causing their own 'lag', to save the devs time troubleshooting what may be the client side problem.

Then if the problem is actually server side, it's more reliably recognizable.

That's why I have a big sign on my monitor that says, "Before you call tech support to ask them why the computer isn't working, check to see if it is PLUGGED IN, YOU (&^*()&%(!!!"

People are always asking me about that. I have no idea why.
  15. OK, That was great info. Thanks again. I do like having Shocking Bolt (When I got it, I felt SOOOO much safer! - Hadn't had Stunning Bolt, so it was my first ranged mitigation after having Ice Patch). But Shocking Bolt and IP seem to be enough to keep me 'safe'.

Thanks for pointing out the reasoning about the Hold proc. "How much am I going to benefit from this?" is a great question to have handy.

I'm seriously liking your Assault idea. Esp with Stamina and your damage stack.

And I agree, Zappy Arrow would be sweeet.
  16. Well Reasoned, Lumi. My 'final' build (when I am rich, old, and have 'thu arthuritis') has snap shot slotted (4 slots) for the +2.25 HP and in order to have the Hold proc handy... what do you think of this?

I set it up so that all my attacks have a space for the hold proc, but is this utterly silly? I know they're ridiculously expensive, and maybe according to your logic above, maybe I should be shooting for more overall damage...

(BTW, the archer I refer to is already 50, I was just thinking about how cool it might be to have 15% hold chance on every attack as an archer - mini-mini controller. )
  17. DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMNN!!!

    2 <snap snap> Snaps UP!

I think that was, Alan Geeenspan, or some kind of Economicalist!

Well done, Protea - you put the Pro in Protea!
  18. You might want to label 'Tongue in cheek' posts as such - from the responses, I think many readers may not 'get' that. Funny, if it is meant that way; sad if it's not.

    Best Bluster

Ok, so I know you guys all have The Funny. But I want to see it up here!

What does anyone have for Best Bluster they’ve ever heard, or come up with? You know, the line the big bad guy drops just before he unleashes the Most Powerful Attack Ever Imagined?

Or right after he has successfully destroyed his nemesis?

Just sheer arrogance, overconfidence, and egotism that you just can’t help but love them, even if they are horrible!

Like when the Emperor in Jedi says, “Now witness the Firepower of this FULLY ARMED and OPERATIONAL battle station!”

Still get chills from that one…

Got any great battlecries, or just great things to say?

I’ve been thinking of some for my mastermind:

Noblesse philosophizes for anyone who will listen. ‘True greatness can only be tempered with abundant humility. Fortunately, I was born with an ample supply of both.'

Noblesse cannot keep the smugness out of her voice. 'It certainly appears as though we will need the power-washer tonight, my untidy minions!"

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to invite you to my submarine lair. It's long, hard and full of seamen! (apologies to Austin Powers.)

Have you got any idea how many anonymous henchmen I've killed over the years? I mean, look at you. You don't even have a name tag. You've got no chance. Why don't you just fall down?' (apologies to Austin Powers again.)

I am the reaper, and my robots are my scythe. You are the chaff which I separate from the wheat that is… curses, I can never remember that last part. Nevermind then, DIE!

    Any others?
  20. Request: Guide: How to properly/most effectively use Vengeance, Fallout, and Mutation, a detailed primer

    OK, I confess, I am a noob.

Well, not really. I have gotten one Blaster to L50, and a brute to L44, and a couple of other characters to the teens and 20’s. Which is to say, I’m not all that special, barely a step above noob. I don’t play all that much; I’m not a HS or College student, so I don’t have OODLES of free time. ()

But I do like to be effective when I play, especially with my friends.

So, can I make a request? (Well, of course I can, I am right now!)

I currently have a L37 Defender, Rad/Electric. He’s fun to play, and I think he’s pretty effective. He was created with a specific purpose in mind: to use the above-mentioned powers to max effect, likely in a team of the same types (Rad/*, using the Leadership pool in tandem.)

I’d like to see someone who has lots of experience tell us the nitty gritty details on how they run their Vengeance/Fallout/Mutation machines.

(BTW, for the uninitiated, these powers all deal with utilizing a fallen member of the party; affectionately nicknamed the ‘bomb’, to help boost the party members with Vengeance (leadership), attack enemies with Fallout (rad), and resurrect the ‘bomb’ with Mutation (rad).)

By details I mean: optimum placement of the ‘bomb’ for max fallout effect, (re: corners, intersections, etc), timing for using Fallout, powers slotting, useful binds for letting people know it’s time to use Vengeance, and to politely let party members know they shouldn’t necessarily pop that Awaken right away upon their demise, etc.

Also welcome are different opinions on which powers in the primary, secondaries, and pools are useful to support this technique.

I am not experienced enough to write such a guide, and I know there have been some guides to the basics, but I haven’t seen a comprehensive centralized guide here on these boards like the other excellent ones I have seen.

So, I humbly ask, is there some knowledgeable soul out there who would like to elucidate on their experience with this technique and share with everyone?
  21. Very well written. I may dust off my own Bots/FF MM soon...
