Yup. And the first part of "The Sound and the Fury" was written from inside the mind of a man with mental retardation. Can you think of a more constrained space within which to write? Not that that was any good...

Oops, forgot to attach the /ironic tag there. Not like he won a Nobel Prize for Literature, or anything. Oh, wait... -
I believe Dev's Choice gives you Regular rewards (ie, enhancement drops, recipe drops...
I put in my 2 cents suggestion to enable a choice of tickets or regular rewards. -
If you mix this mob up with another mob tha is the opposite, (low offense, high defense), it might make a good combination - the low def mob would not be affected so much by def debuffery, and the low offense mob wouldnt be affected so much by offense debuffery.
Might make people actually think about which mobs to target first. Like, tactical-like. Or Strategery. -

A bigger tool might be better, but people who can work with the tools they have wil get more done by working with those tools, and not waiting for better tools to come along.
Many a martial arts teacher has taught that, Yes, the "flying jumping front kick" is very impressive, but if you do not know how to do the basic Punch, you will never win a fight. -
Your negativity is... meh. Try starting small, and working your way up.
As in SO many other posts on the same subject, the intractability of your 'suggestions' is significant. The potential for abuse is rife when picking individual powers. Rather than focusing on what you, specifically, cannot do, perhaps writing a better story centered around a few of your ninja-characters might be more interesting to others, since others [ie, not you] will be the majority of people playing your arc.
And if what you wanted was the ability to make a custom arc for you and only you, I submit that that isn't really the focus of this tool. It is for players to be able to make content that can be shared by the other players and enhance the game for everyone, not just one individual person.
The fact is this tool has no equal in the MMORPG community, not even close... and they are working to expand it.

DOH! Shoulda googled it to check myself...
But according to Wiki:
Season 3 (197778):
The Weekend Update with Jane Curtin and Dan Aykroyd
Seasons 4 and 5 (197880):
The Weekend Update with Jane Curtin and Bill Murray
I knew I remembered Bill Murray uttering those immortal words. -
Bill Murray? (does that make me old??)
"Jane, you Ignorant..." -

no offesense but we knew about this m.a. for like 6 months now..
what would be nice is to here whether anything "else" is coming with issue 14..
[/ QUOTE ]
Here's a hint. If they aren't promoting other features for Issue 14, there probably aren't any besides the usual minor power tweaks and QoL features, none of which are worth promoting, or would be covered by news sites.
If you expect I14 to have anything beyond the MA and the usual minor fixes, maybe a few new costume parts, you're most likely setting yourself up for disappointment.
[/ QUOTE ]
And CLEARLY haven't been paying attention, as they've been hinting for almost a month now that there WOULDN'T be anything else in Issue 14.
I thought everyone and their mother had figured that out by now.
Not as if its very secret. Especially after the massive amount of press issue 14 has been getting.
[/ QUOTE ]
NOT so fast, my fine furry friend...
It seems that after all the denial about Arch Nemeses... we seem to be getting them!
So perhaps we will find there is more than (currently) meets the eye.
I like to live by 'expect nothing, hope for something, and be happily surprised' by any extras. The MA is adding value to both devs and players, so I'm excited to find whatever we get. -
[ QUOTE ]
Mark my words, because I've been saying it for a long time. This is going to be a lot bigger than I think even folks here are giving it credit for. I really believe that the release of Issue 14 will be the most important date in City of Heroes history since its original launch, maybe even bigger. It's going to affect all facets of the game, whether or not you're a content creator or even set foot in the Mission Architect building.
Even more, if NCsoft continues opening up the game to user-generated content (i.e. improving the Mission Architect system post-I14, giving us more tools, staying on top of promoting arcs to official content), I think this might be a significant milestone in the history of the MMORPG genre. That's what I'm really excited about, that this is going to have ramifications far beyond our little gaming silo.

Good thing I never asked for your response!
In short, I noted how the MA is a positive for the game and think anyone saying otherwise is being ridiculousThe MA will not be perfect but it adds an entire new dimension to game play. Very important, IMO.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not to belabor the point, but I noted more than a few backhanded compliments mixed in with the praise, and that goggled me. But, well, welcome back, and I hope you can enjoy! -

Was Captain Dynamic Ed Robertson from Barenaked Ladies?
[/ QUOTE ]
That was crazy. When he first came out I thought, "Is that Ed Robertson??" then he took off the glasses and I saw it was!
[/ QUOTE ]
Had to dig around a bit to get any sort of cast list for the video. Found this quote on Rooster Teeth's web site (emphasis added, quote's below the video):
[ QUOTE ]
Captain Dynamic: Episode 1
A team of writers is hired to use the new content creation tools in the game City of Heroes to promote the worst superhero in the world, Captain Dynamic. Starring Ed Roberston of Barenaked Ladies. Based on the game City of Heroes from NCSoft.
[/ QUOTE ]
[/ QUOTE ]
As a long time Rooster Teeth fan, I can identify just about everybody in that video:
The guy with the Sourthern accent in front - John Reed, aka The Director from Red vs Blue: Reconstruction.
Captain Dynamic - Ed Roberston better known as one of the members of Bare Naked Ladies. Or as he said in a commentary once, 'even better known as Captain Butch Flowers.'
Going around the table clockwise for the writers:
The tattoed guy who goes 'not even sure that's allowed.' - Geoff Fink - Minor Junior Private Dexter Grif, Negative First Class of Red vs Blue.
Balding writer who doesn't say much - Nathan Zellner, aka Andy the Bomb from season 3-5 of Red vs Blue: The Blood Gulch Chronicles
Guy in the back (not sure on this one) - Gavin Free aka Private Jo-anes of Chapter 3 of Red vs Blue: Reconstruction.
Guy who wants exposure to getting paid - Jason Saldana aka Private Lavernius Tucker from Red vs Blue.
The guy who Captain Dynamic wants to touch his awesome button - Joel Heyman, aka Private Micheal J. Caboose.
Also, to quote someone's sig/TV Tropes: "As a rule, whenever there is a major announcement, there will be rioting. "
Also, something I've been saying since this was first announced: a mish where a bunch of NPC heroes are beating up Positron for having to run his TF. Still don't know if I want the PCs to join in beating Posi or saving him.
[/ QUOTE ]
Some classic lines (imdb helps):
Capt. Butch Flowers: Men, your delightful tomfoolery puts a spring in my step and a bounce in my britches. If I weren't your Commanding Officer, I'd pick you both up, give you a big bear hug and make you call me 'Daddy'.
Sarge: Get on with it, Grif.
Grif:[surrendering][exasperated sigh] I would just like to let everyone know that I suck.
Church: And?
Grif: [with heavy hesitation] And that I'm a girl.
Church: What else?
Grif: [in a hesitant tone] And I like ribbons in my hair, and I want to kiss all the *boys*.
Sarge: This may be the best surrender of all time.
Andy The Bomb: No, I'm the other talking bomb, Francis. Pleased to meet ya, [censored]!
Tucker: I'm sorry, what? It's kind of hard to hear you over the sound of your constant team killing.
Caboose: I like me. -
Sir, (or Madam), your reasonable and moderate views have NO PLACE in these forums. Do not inject your 'even keel' into these discussions!!
This, My Good Sir (or Madam), is The Internets!!

Pardon my sarcastic snark. If this gets modded, ok, but I cant help responding to this kind of negativity. I know, I already lost this battle, but the war rages on!

How can anyone say this isnt great?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[ QUOTE ]
How? Ill tell you how.
First, it will deflate the population of potential teammates. Want to run that Sewer Trial for the badge, and for the fun of it, because you havent run one in forever? Want to run the 2nd respec task force to re-do your characters slots or powers? Want help taking down Infernal?
[/ QUOTE ]
If only there were a way to organize with people you know and find some common time to play. Some sort of grouping. That would be Super!
[ QUOTE ]
Well, guess what? Your pool of participants will be reduced by the MA in a real, and not-insignificant way - those potential teammates who could have joined you are working - whoops! I meant to say writing - MA arcs and arent playing as characters.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, working. And of course, if we dont work hard enough, we will be punished. I can see the devs now: [Booming Loudspeaker Voice]Players! We are very disappointed in your current Architect efforts. As a result of your lackadaisical writing output, all travel powers have been removed, all of your market inventories have been cleared, and every costume color has been changed to a dirty shade of puce. The beatings will continue until morale improves! Thank you for your support! Worst Game EVAR!
[ QUOTE ]
Second, it is a gimmick completely disconnected from the CoH game lore. Lets face it, the MA is a stand-alone feature in the game that doesnt develop any of the CoH backstory.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless, of course, some of the players develop stories that are logical extensions of the canon, and the devs adopt it as canon. That would NEVER happen. After all, the devs are a wholly different type of creature than the players. Its not like the devs are people, and the players are people also, right??
[ QUOTE ]
Its a flashy gimmick intended to sell box sets, and grab publicity and attention from the gaming world. In other words, its a marketing tool to get more cash into the devs' pockets.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because that, in no way, helps the players. Ever. More players, more money for the devs to make more stuff for the players, yeah, youre right. No benefit for anyone. And the devs certainly dont deserve any more money Back to work, Devs! Mush!
[ QUOTE ]
Third, the vast majority of storytelling will be cringe-worthy. Have you read through the fanfic in the roleplay section of this very forum? No offense to anyone, but it aint my cup of tea - I cannot spend more than 90 seconds reading through any of it before I cringe, embarrassed, and click out of it. A lot of my in-game friends cannot spell. A LOT. A lot of my in-game friends have no imagination when it comes to creating an interesting costume (copy-paste the Enforcer outfit and change the colors and body size, literally, to a dozen characters). A LOT. A lot of my in-game friends who have actually written character bios have produced only derivative and loopy ones (you have seen that thread in our forum where the person - however mean-spirited it might have been - was copying ridiculous character bios to his website blog, havent you?). A LOT.
[/ QUOTE ]
I like the idea of using a game to learn. Perhaps yu can look up a thread entitled "What My Six Year Old Has Learned From CoX"
Those people to whom you referred as poor writers its funny, you know how a person learns to write well? By writing poorly first, and then writing more.
And, hey What if there was a system, by which the best player content could be rated? Kind of like a ratings system? Hmm, theres an idea
[ QUOTE ]
Fourth, the writing that will come from the MA is going to be very limited - sure, you can write NPC dialogue, or begin the mission dialogue, or contact dialogue. But thats it. If I want to read a great story, Ill go to Borders and buy a book, not log into City of Frickin Heroes! If I want to write, I will launch Microsoft Word and type, not log into City of Frickin Heroes! And truth be told, guess how many of my in-game friends RARELY paid any attention to what the actual text was associated with any mission, anyway? A LOT.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because, historically, there are no examples of games where people write a storyline, gather a few friends, create characters of varied backgrounds, and play with these characters as though they were living the story. That will never catch on.
[ QUOTE ]
Fifth, a lot of people wont bother creating missions, because it will be too much of a chore. Guess how many of my in-game friends dont go into minute detail with the costume creator? Guess how many of my in-game friends don't use the SG base editor to either create their own base or revise a current base? Guess how many of my friends log into the game just to have fun by blasting or smashing stuff since this is, in fact, a comic-book-based action video game and they want to unwind and need a break from work (whether that is a job, studying, or taking care of the kids, etc)? A LOT.
[/ QUOTE ]
Right. Well, fortunately, that means you will have plenty of people to play with, since they wont be in the MA. Of course, that refutes your first point. But wait, your first point was that everyone will be in the MA!?! In a not-insignificant way <headasploding>
[ QUOTE ]
Sixth, it will be filled with the usual horrific bugs and egregious exploits that will necessitate shutting down the MA entirely, and possibly even the game, for extended periods of time for emergency fixes. Merits. Nuff said.
[/ QUOTE ]
And the DOOOOOOOM hits keep on comin. -
Will a HoF rated mission arc gain the ability to count enemies toward badges?
Will a Dev Choice rated mission arc gain the ability to count enemies toward badges?
Will a Canon Adopted mission arc gain the ability to count enemies toward badges?
What does pohsyb mean? -
(QR)
You know, I dont know if this is something the critics of MA have thought of, but I have a moment, so I thought I would be Captain ObviousPants for a moment.
Does everyone get that instead of having 10 (?) devs creating new content, we will now have ~100,000?!? And granted, though not all of those creators will be excellent, and not all of their creations will be the best, we will be able to PICK the best, vote on it, and incorporate it into the game? And for all the clamor for NEW content, (coming from people most of whom have likely never played the current content all the way through), this will be an unlimited source of constant new content which will be evaluated, judged, and promoted by the very people who play it all the time?
How can anyone say this isnt great?
And for the fears expressed bout the Devs not being able to compete with the oodles of content about to hit the stage, heres a thought: WHO CARES? Who cares where good content comes from?
Heres another way to put it: Would you rather the devs spent 100 man hours making one story arc that is 'Awesome' to some, 'meh' to others, and 'I hate it!' to still others, or spent those same 100 hours creating an added tool as part of the Mission Architect that would allow the ~100,000 potential MA users out there to create more new innovative content? In other words, would you rather have 10 people working on the solution to a problem (that problem being, Making You Happy), or 100,000 people? I know the devs have good storytelling skills, but some people are constantly saying I dont like this arc or I dont like that enemy group Can anyone see that this is a solution to all that garbage? Youll be able to pick from thousands of mission arcs! Or, if you are so picky that you cant find any good content there, Make Your Own!!
Im not trying to be a fanboi here, but that old cliché, Give a man a fish, feed him for a day; Teach a man to fish, feed him for the rest of his life, seems particularly appropriate here we are giving the tools to the players to solve their own challenges. And in a unique way, unavailable to any mainstream MMO to date, afaik. (Never heard of Furcadia myself I doubt they have this level of control, but I could be wrong )
And on another note, please keep the Why cant I get into closed beta in a different forum, I think the subject is the Issue 14. Not the way Betas are run.
Well, back to the salt mines. -
I thought the video was funny. Not "A" material, (B+ imho), ...
but... "Touch my Awesome Button?" To get a grown man to stand that close to another grown man and say that? That is priceless.
Audience: Geeks, (of which I am one, proudly), and people who watch The Office. -
OK, the team up with RoosterTeeth=
ALT+SHIFT+CTRL+AWESOME!
Great Video! -
Yes. And Cake. Well, The Cake Is A Lie.
But maybe there will be Pie. Or perhaps Cheesecake - the cake that is a pie. -
Woops, I meant to say 57 month/60 month... but what do you mean, infinite rolls??
(edit) OMG, now I understand. New character, roll, trade to another character, logoff, delete character, repeat.
My apologies, I see my folly now. I am such a twinker! -
I am quite disappointed with the 50% tailor discount. The 60 month reward is quite cool, but 5 merits?
Suggestion: I think it would be better to reward 20 merits at L57 (1 free recipe roll), and remove the 5 merits from L60. (haven't read the rest of the thread, apologies if I am repeating)
