So I guess the only thing that isn't a gimmick is punching people in the face... and you get Street Justice in the last issue!
Seriously. What you call 'Gimmicks' others call 'alternatives to staid historical gameplay' and 'boring, old mechanics.' Example you gave: the last encounter in STF. So I'm assuming the Hami Raid is 'not a gimmick', since you didn't mention it. So let me draw the analogy in a pedantic way:
In Hami, you destroy a number of objects that generate a protective field over the main target, then destroy the main target, all while the main target is attacking you and has to be distracted by a tank and the tank has to be supported so the tank does not fall.
How exactly is that different from the last encounter in the STF??
Oh yeah, in the Hami, you do it multiple times.
Again, how is it different?
I like what most people call 'gimmicks' in the game, for the most part. It changes the focus; it calls for a little of what some people might call 'strategy'; and it adds to the charm of 'face-punching' with 'brain-thinking'. -
I don't know what to say about this. I feel like a resonance loop is setting up inside my head between 'hilariously awesome' and 'OMG What the hell is this idiotic man thinking??" and the frequency is rising so fast that my head is about to explo <blart>

Very glad to see the Emp Merits changes for Baf and Lam aren't going forward. Awesome!

Quote:I agree it's doable... but you'd think a championship fighter would have, you know, studied those moves. Sure Tyson could run out of steam, but emotion +high physical exertion can cloud a person's judgement (also, all due respect, I'd never want the guy to hit me, but he was never the sharpest tool in the shed. Ali, on the other hand... that guy is a hero for more than being a great boxer).I will also point out that Muhammed Ali used the 'let them tire themselves out' strategy against other boxers, especially the much bigger George Foreman, hell it's even got its' own wiki article, called The Rope-a-dope.
I'd think removng the physical exertion part would allow the operators to do a better intellectual job of managing energy/damage/etc. -

I liked it... and I hated it. I'm being very nit-picky, but I had a couple of serious problems with it. But it was a FUN movie to watch.
My problems were this: (possible spoilers)
I didn't get a good feel for the robot hero. He wasn't given enough personality. A couple of shots here and there, but mostly, I got that he was a blank slate, and a little writing effort would have helped here.
Another thing was the way the movie ended. (major spoiler)
Seriously, energy management??? It is one of the very first things my Tae Kwon Do teacher taught me many, many years ago: Whoever gets tired first in a fight loses. And Rocky punctuates that point in more than one movie... to the detriment of Rocky's good looks (lol). But seriously, what fighter loses by punching themselves out? And how does a dynamically reactive AI[sic]' fall prey to 3 right hooks in a row????
The movie was "Almost" "Man vs Corporation"... but not quite, not enough about Zeus' managers in the movie, and why would they accept the challenge? Weak justification.
It was "Almost" Man vs. Man, but not enough (Charlie vs. Tak Mashido), or (Max vs. Farra Lemkova) to make it personal. Also, not nearly enough Farra Lemkova in general.
It was "Almost" a movie about replacing a brutal sport with surrogates to save the fighters - except it got a 3 line, 1 scene mention.A lot of lost opportunities due to lazy writing and an emphasis on.... well now that I think about it, nothing in particular.
It was "Almost" a movie about an amazingly tough and cool robot with some personality, but that was glossed over and totally lost in the other muck. What made him so tough? Was he made of Unobtanium? Did he have a soul? Was he a victim of some kind of robot-on-robot viciousness? Because being a 'sparring partner' and being a little faster than the other bots didn't go far enough for me, nor did having a damage-smile-scar (what is that, from the 50's?). They stole from Rocky, but not from Wall-e. Might shoulda watched that one again before writing this one, guys.
Lines like, (and if I'm spoiling any ideas here, you really need to watch more movies...)
"You put the voice recognition from that one in the body of this one? Brilliant!"
and
"This isn't a video game, this is real life!"
[no dude, it's actually a VIDEO GAME. No people will be harmed, you're not actually participating, and there are ACTUAL CONTROLLERS. Do you not understand the words that are coming out of your mouth??!]
are kinda insulting to today's moviegoers.
I predict RSII will be direct-to-video, no big stars, and very bad... but there WILL be one. -
Quote:Well now that you know how easy it is, you'll prob make it back in no time... but it IS easier to earn money when you HAVE lots of money...Ah.. too late for that. Alfa is now a very nicely kitted out but flat broke pauper. I'll need to swap out the tux for tattered cloths.
So as that guy above said, "Never spend the float"...
Meaning (for the non-savvy) (I think)
Keep an amount for 'investment' (I like a nice round 1B usually), and you can spend any excess, but use the 1B for stuff like bids and salvage/craft costs. -
Quote:Yes, clearly, because someone spending 2 days (not) defending a bad buying decision (as opposed to the purchase of a bad product, something completely different, and not this) on a forum and then giving in to them, thus seemingly justifying their unjustified outrage would probably have no fallout at all.but its still costing them 45 for 10..
not a good deal...possibly 90 if force power is any good.
Arguments have been made refuting your perception of StJ as a 'bad powerset'. Arguments have been made refuting your idea that you 'deserve' a 'satisfaction guaranteed or your money back' level of refund. Few places offer that kind of refund anymore, and software nearly never does, for reasons already stated in this thread.
Repeated threats of quitting seem to be in your history, as noted by other authors in the thread. 'Threatening to quit' to 'get your way' - that would seem to imply a head covering worn on the wrong end of one's body, to imply internet vernacular. Someone else already mentioned you might have waited and read more info on the forums about it before buying - I'll go as far as to say that if you value your $10, why would you gamble it before knowing that you could be less than 100% satisified? The McDonalds example which you refuted, just replace it with 'You ate 1/3 of the hamburger'. You think they'll take it back?
There IS such a thing as 'a Bad Customer', and the customer is NOT always right. And yes, the customer can 'vote with his/her feet', as it were, if they think they are being mistreated. But sometimes it is worse for the business to cave to an unreasonable demand of one customer to keep their business vs. letting that customer go - for example, I hope Zwillinger is not wasting time here reading these particular forum posts when he could be doing something of more value - like, say, watching paint dry, or explaining quantum mechanics to a three-toed sloth.
We can only hope. GLHF. -
This sounds like an awesome contest - can't wait to see the entries!

Quote:Absolutely correct. And that's why we haveGood post.
Respecs are must in a world of IO's, IO set bonuses, and Incarnates.
Veteran Respecs
Issue freespecs (nearly every issue)
Respec Recipes (While rare, certainly obtainable.)
And now,
Enhancement Unslotters.
(and I may have missed something in there.)
edit: Oh yeah, 3 respec trials, which ain't that hard.
Arcanaville's statement regarding GW is very on-point. -
Quote:Wow, excellent.1. Terrible idea.
2. Terrible idea.
You are easily one of the worst posters on this forum because your contribution in threads can be summed up like this:
Learn2play.
At least GG lays out some compelling arguments from time to time.
Respecs need to happen more commonly to increase interest in the game in my opinion.
"I bought this fancy mixer at the store. So I tried to make a cake, and, who needs a recipe - I just put in 'some' flour, and 'some' sugar, and 'some' eggs... but the cake SUCKS!
...
I'm gonna call the Mixer Company, this damned MIXER IS BROKEN AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED!"
Perhaps reading the vast storehouse of information that is provided to you free of charge here on the forums (for no money) by the players of this very game, after they have played these archetypes for YEARS themselves, and have been kind enough to take the time to organize into a coherent index of information (and ain't not chargin' you a dime for it)
might be something to look into.
Or, with all due respect, there's the wall, and you may continue to beat the head there, if that is your whim.
WhiteHotFlash solved your problem for you. If you do not want that solution, asking for more respecs actually is not the answer. -
I was gonna say, it DOES look like either she did it, or they stole her style wholesale.
(No dis to the Devs; on the contrary - quality video work there!)

I've said before, as others have - blaster would be my recommendation starting out. Learning 'active defense' (as opposed to toggles) hardens you for the tougher content, and learning to accept the occasional faceplant makes it less likely that you'll get frustrated with squishier archetypes. Armor and shields are great, but pop-up blasting and around-the-corner nuking are also fulfilling in a visceral way.

Quote:I'll just pick one of the vast number of ... dubiously sane... arguments you put up here.By paying real money for a respec? A respec is something I will absolutely not purchase, no matter how cheap it is. If I'm already paying a subscription, I flat out refuse to pay anything extra for things I consider really essential to my gaming experience - and respecs is something I consider essential. I would (and did, on previous occasions) leave the game way before even considering purchasing a respec.
Do you understand how money works? If they offered you a respec for $0.01, you seriously would not pay it? Well, kudos for you! Your dedication to your principles has once again thwarted your ability to have any fun in this game, and if you carry it to any other games you play, to any other game you ever particpate in.
I don't really understand how anyone can run out of respecs in this game. Even if you hamper your AT to 50% of its potential power (which is pretty damned dificult to do unless you don't know what the initials I.O. stand for)... your character will STILL be a decent comparison to other characters in nearly any party, or solo for that matter.
Also, learn about "marginal benefit". If you take 50% of your time respeccing to get an extra 3.76% performance out of your character, then ou may eed to retake a few math classes. Unless, as someone has pointed out, respeccing is your kind of 'fun'... in which case, the Test Server is a limitless abundance of free respecc-y goodness. -
Quote:Precisely. So since a week game time is about 20x the amount that the downtime was....why does everyone, when you ask for compensation assume to break it down into a dollar figure? I PAID 30 days. give me 30 days. Hell for all the inconvience they should credit everyone with an extra week game time.
the next time you are texting in line at the bank, and hold up the line, you have to wait for the next 20 people to pass you by before you go.
And the next time you miss an appointment at the doctor's (for whatever reason, because you gave the same consideration), and they lose an hour appointment, you have to work 20 hours for them to compensate.
And if you happen to have an accident on the road? Fuggedaboutit! Let's say each person held up behind you lost 15 minutes, and I'll guess 100 people (conservatively - we want to be reasonable), right? So 100*15*20 minutes working for them, that's... 1250 hours. So take 7 and a half months off from work to make up all that time.
That's reasonable, for the comparable inconvenience, right? -
Welcome, great to hear you are enjoying it!

I thought this was about Peter Griffin. Now I'm sad.

I suspect you might underestimate the ability of simple things currently in place, like stoplight cameras and credit card/monetary tracking, not to mention modern forensic techniques, that would pretty quickly thwart anything like this in the real world. Not CSI garbage, I'm talking about real stuff. I think it's pretty tough to really get away with any kind of crime these days.

Quote:Gotta say, my fave Batmobile was in the first movie. Sleek, long, sexy. It would have to be built of a solid titanium/steel alloy to resist dents and dings, and it weighed a couple of tons more than needed due to, you know, fairings and exterior shape, and it shouldnt have been able to turn worth a ****, but it looked awesome.Wow. There is nothing sleek, stealthy, or even remotely bat-like about the vehicles in this re-imagining. If Nolan's goal was to portray on film what Batman would be like in the real world I really wish he'd have gone a more pragmatic route. Nolan's Batman lacks the grace and poise vital and inherent to the character's very being.
Honestly, if we saw one of those today, it really wouldn't take long for someone to figure out who would have the means to acquire something like that and it goes without saying that it would be a very short list. I just have a hard time divorcing myself from the unlikelihood. It would probably be easier for me to suspend disbelief if he didn't go on record saying he wanted it to be a realistic portrayal.
Sorry for the nerd rage. I promised myself I wouldn't but, I swear, every time he does something off-the-mark and gets lauded for it I want to shake my fist at the sky and curse at the gods. Why can't the guys who did the Arkham Asylum video game have directed this movie? While it was less grounded in reality, it's certainly a more abject lesson in realism.
My second favorite? The Tumbler. Brute force, efficiency, nothing wasted on appearance except what was needed to make it go, go fast, go hard, and go more. No waxing this puppy. No worries about denting the shiny. It matches the psychological aesthetic of the new Batman. It's the weapon you go with against a guy like Heath Ledger's Joker, just like the Batmobile from the first movie was the right weapon to go after Jack Nicholson with. (Ok, sorta.).
I don't really know what I'm looking at in that picture, but I like the general look and feel of the tech in the new series of movies, so I trust it will all work out in the end. -
I like Morbo. You always know where he stands.
(On a human's face, if he is able.) -
Very excited to get back playing.
Also, that cat is WAY long. I think it is longer than these patch notes.
