No, but it doesn't take 1 of each AT to succeed. You could have had a Controller or a Defender, or even certain builds of Scrapper. What type of group were you in that had none of these?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Doesn't matter, any group composition should be viable in my opinion, as well as soloing all the way to 50 if that is your preference.

    8 blasters
    8 defenders
    8 tankers
    8 scrappers
    8 controllers

or any combination thereof should be able to do the majority of the content. I don't have time to formulate a specific group plan when I log for a few hours. I want to get in and get playing and that's what made this game fun for me as opposed to my previous experience with EQ where giant raids had to be formed and preplanned and meticulously thought out. No, this CoH was more jump right in and action based and it appealed to me. I don't want that appeal to go away.

Volleys from things that take lethal damage don't score damage on you. Several times I drop things and then their attack goes off. . .and I lose no health despite their weapon firing or their ball of fire landing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am specifically speaking of my ATs (AR) AoEs which are all ticks. Flamethrower, Full Auto. Long animation times and tick damage. Thus they always get a volley off on my AoE. And again you are presuming we have a tanker with an AoE taunt or a controller in my group. Do you really want to go down the path of EQ and say that every group must have 1 of each AT to suceed? If you want to go down that path fine. But I've been in that world and I don't like it.
  3. [ QUOTE ]
Or did you wait until the Tanker had run forward and Provoked?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Do you want only group with a provoke tanker to succeed? Great, here we come EQ Tanker, Mezzer, Healer.
  4. [ QUOTE ]

Edit: For blasters complaining about HP, you have the same as Controllers and Defenders, learn to control your aggro, we did. (Most of you knew how in the lower levels.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

This comment is unacceptable coming from a non-damage dealing class. Don't even presume to tell us about aggro control. If we properly manage aggro, you wouldn't even want us in your group. We'd be a half-[censored] ranged scrapper.

In practical terms the only time 2 defenders will cap you def is when you have 2 force fielders. That isn’t common. There are far more ways to cap a SR scrappers def. There is also a lot of consensus that SR needs some form of resist despite this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is because the Scrapper is going into the middle of a spawn and facing all the aggro found there, something that a Blaster shouldn't generally be doing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So a blaster shouldn't use any of their AoEs in a group setting either, since that draws all the aggro.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    No, that is not true:

    (1) The Scrapper is facing melee damage as opposed to the ranged replies a Blaster is going to receive. Melee damage is a lot larger.

    (2) AE becomes considerably safer once aggro has been taken by others. It deals less damage than single target attacks (barring the level 32 powers) and so isn't particularly likely to steal it away from something being pounded on individually by another.

    (3) In a group situation both fare better by being able to rely on the support of others.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm really beginning to think you haven't played a high level blaster. It's true if I don't use any AoEs I don't suffer much damage. But then again I'm not outputting much either am I? What benefit do I bring the group if I don't bring half of my damage arsenal? Those ranged attacks can kill me in 1 volley. They get a return volley whther my AoE is going to kill them or not. I might as well not use my AoEs, you tell me to manage my aggro (not you but others in group when I die), fine I won't use my AoEs, let's see how much longer it takes to bring that pack down now. And now Statesman wants to raise mob hit points? No I think we are on a bad track with this. It's going to hurt the game.

Yes, AOE damage is an issue. We're still looking at ways to solve this. So no changes are imminent.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well if my AoE cannot kill it in one volley I'm not using it. So you might as well take AoE out of the game entirely. A blaster using AoE that will not kill in 1 volley is just asking for debt. The lowest hit point AT drawing the aggro of every single mob, yeah sounds like a great idea.

Making mobs tougher and making our AOE weaker

    [/ QUOTE ]

Never said exactly this. My hope is that making mobs tougher ALONE would bring AOE damage into line. But, I'm still researching different methods to solving this problem.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Statesman, why do you think so many blaster builds are centered on alpha strikes? Once you answer this question, you can begin to see a problem with blasters at higher levels. Do you think it's a "haha I'm uber" situation? Or is it possibly a "whew, I get to live" situation?

You can't see anything from even a singular hundred yards away in DA...using cheats to remove the fog from the zone can get your account banned.

    Heh.

    Heheheh.
    HAHAHAHAAHAHAHA.

geez, this is priceless. Ok, I can safely assume you haven't seen hide nor hair of Adamastor.

First: I wouldn't begin to know how to make a client side cheat for CoH. Reasons: I don't want to get banned from a game I truly love. Second: dude, I have a hard time /binding. I wouldn't know a pigg from a blankket.

Second: As I flew over Dark Astoria, zeroing in on Moth Cemetery I saw a green glowing floating figure. It was huge from the distance I saw him. From his size, it was impossible to confuse him with anything but Adamastor. Totems are roughly 1/5th of the size he is.

It's not my fault that you cant' find him. I didn't cheat. And almost every other player that has seen him has the same opinion: you can see Adamastor from a huge distance. Are they cheating too?

Screenies. Please don't tell me I cheated and removed the fog. When you're close to things, the fog lifts on its own. Amazing thing, really.

    Meeting Adamastor See Adamastor down

It's quite clear from these screenshots he hasn't removed the fog. I think a formal apology is in order to Guapo from the cheater accusor. Here are more screenshots of my battle with Adamastor for more pwnage of the cheater accusor.

You are a dolt. You can see Adamastor from 100 yds away easily. He has huge green glowing eyes. Killed him last night. Easily seen from 100, actually maybe even 200 yrds away. Accusing someone of a cheating when you haven't even experienced what they are talking about is downright assinine.

My first big moment was taking down Dr. Vahzilok (sp?)

I've never heard of Babbage before this.

I think maybe just maybe some of this might get fixed when tanker attacks have built in taunts, aren't they working on that? The problem is that tanks can't do enough damage to get enemies off blasters. Scrappers seem to be able to but shouldn't tanks be viable as meatshields?

    [/ QUOTE ]

You won't always be able to find a tanker. and not all tankers build provoking aggro bots. I personally pull my teams from my super group or friends list,.... and even though botha are large you won't always find a tanker. ... nor should you have to.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No I agree. But I thought we were talking about the difficulties of aggro for a blaster. We sometimes are scared to use our AOEs because we get alpha struck by the enemies. But if you are soloing this aggro thing isn't an issue. So speaking from a group standpoint there is a problem because Blasters do the most damage but can get hit with the least so there need to be other forms of aggro besides just damage otherwise the blasters are always the source of aggro or they are forced to use their smaller damage single target only and then what are they really providing to the group. It's like blasters are expected to be the sacrifical lambs for every battle.

I have to put in my two cents here. I am currently well into level 35, I run through FF and Bricks when not doing missions. I look for groups of 3 or 4 whites, including Lieus in between my Novas. I have the Nova regenning every 2.5 minutes. I have no problems taking out the whites in this fashion, (the Lieu being yellow). If I am careful I finish and move to the next group, if I relax I just might die. Its fun, its a little dangerous, i do not feel gimped at all. In fact, I look for +1 or +2 groups when I Nova and can usually take out the remainders if I am careful to have an inspiration available for end. It becomes messy if more than one thing survives the blast, once again a little bit dangerous but not undoable. This is basically the same thing I was doing before update 2 and in fact Im doing better now because I have respec'd. I cannot feel gimped by update 2, and nor do I think I am so overpowerd that I need to be nerfed at this point. I seem to be the minority, a happy Blaster, but I wanted to let all know that there are some of us out here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Happy that you are happy being a one trick pony. Personally I'd rather have a bit more in my repertoire than walk up invisible and 1 shot a group rinse and repeat.

I don't think the rogue robots is *supposed* to give you a badge. And I know it doesn't give a souvenir (it's not a story arc, it's a multi-part mission)

No, I know that. But Positron said mission aren't supposed to repeat. This one does, multiple times.

As for the kill stealing... several groups can get "badge credit" off one monster... just like several heroes can get defeat credit off one villain.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was leaving a mission in Perez on one of my alts (10ish tanker at the time) and saw a bunch of people gearing up to take down Kraken. They were broadcasting to the zone for everyone to help, so since I was right there I helped out when they said to attack and stuff. I landed a few hits, got some xp off the kill, but no badge. Managed to not get killed either! Anyway, is there a minimum amount of damage (10% or so maybe) that a given team has to do to recieve badge credit for a kill?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Same, I helped some lower people kill off Kraken. I did maybe one third of the damage and got no badge, they did.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]

Why? Because we keep no record of that on your character. We only track what missions your character did for your OWN contacts (so you don't get asked to do the same mission twice by your contacts).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ok positron. This doesn't work well. You know the whole 5th-column-robots-become-sentient story arc? Did it three times from three different contacts (no souvenir).

    [/ QUOTE ]

I also got the rogue robot missions several times repeated.
  22. You say you have completed the data mining for the TF badges? I still don't have my badge for Manticore. I did it 3 times! Arresting Hopkins each time too if it matters.

Fine, Statesman, but how about the mission I had today (1 hour timed) to take out Sidokan and His Coven with my L18 Energy/Energy Blaster. The overall mission not too bad in spite of a number of +1 Astral Followers until I got to the Boss (+1 RED) who cast stuns and holds in chains so that the toon could not move, run, attack or anything until dead. He died twice trying to take the boss out and finally gave up and let the mission time out. I have done this mission before Update #2 with other alts and never had this kind of experience. Bug? I have petitioned it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It is a bug. Petition away - though we're working on a fix.

Oh - forgot another change - shrunk the size of wandering patrols.

These are most certainly reactions; had we seen this better on the Training Room server we would have changed each and every one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hopefully you mean the chainstun issue and not the +1 level issue.

In my opinion Status effects are not the answer to making thegam emore challenging. Doing something to help reduce the Alpha strike syndrome would be better. Honestly Alpha strikes seem to trivialize much of the content in my opinion.

    [/ QUOTE ]

As a blaster who is not normally a powergamer I will tell you that I feel forced into powergaming and massive preplanning to make sure that I can alpha strike. Want to know why? If I can't alpha that group or mob, chances are I am going to die.

Raise my hit points or give me access to more defense, otherwise leave my damn alpha strike alone.
