I have stone/fire and a ss/fire brutes. Built right, /fire isn't too squishy. Get a couple kin com sets, steadfast unique, and tod or oblits sets. Im not sure about dm, but ss with perma rage may offer more damage than dark, esp with an aoe in foot stomp to partner with burn. Just my opinion.

Quote:AGREED! I have one 50+1 SS/Fire brute. AWESOME! and very fun!I'll toss another log on the fire of the SS/Fire/Mu Brute. There is rarely a time when there isn't some sort of AoE that's there to throw out between Burn, Foot Stomp, Electric Fences, Ball Lightning, and Static Discharge. And when there isn't, her damage aura and Burn patch are still going strong when I'm smacking things around with KO Blow.
Standard opperating proceedure is to hop into a spawn, hit Fiery Embrace, drop burn, wait a second or two for them to cluster, hit Footstomp. Now all the minions are dead. Chuck Ball Lightning, hit Electric Fences, most times the LT's are usually dead. If not, jump straight up into the air and hit Static Discharge at the peak (I think this works), smack a boss with KO blow, and if I don't have anything recharged yet, use my other two single target attacks in order of highest to lowest damage.
By that time Burn ought to be up again to toss out with its large front loaded damage.
Running short on endurance? Pop Consume, which has a very large area of effect and also deals even more damage.
It's not about how many AoEs you have. Its about killing as many baddies as fast as possible. SS/Fire does that as well as an Elec/SD scrapper. (thought not quite as durable) BUT, the ss/fire has powers that rech alot faster than the 2 charges from elec/sd.
I pop BU, run in hit FS, let the mobs gather then hit burn. Burns radious is smaller so the closer they are, the more you hit.
I didn't take Mu though. I did at first but found i like teh extra endurance from the energy pool to be better for me. My 2 AoEs are up so fast (twice per mob) that i can spam them and KO BLOW nonstop. -
Quote:I will try to as soon as i can. I don't have them saved to mids so id have to log and copy it to mids or try to type it out. lol.Would you mind Either PMing me your Fire/kin, SS/Fire and Elec/SD builds? or post here?... though I dont want this thread to turn into what builds are better and how to improve on whatever.... I currently am running my Fire/kin at BM, and Im leveling a Brute... I have a scrapper in the 30's but just havent gotten around to playing since I got back

@ the OP.
I don't farm for inf. It'll come but not as fast as farming for recipes. I use an Elec/SD scrap or a Fire/Kin troller (yes, its still one of the best farmers) to farm the BM map. I set it to 0x8. 4x8 is gonna get more inf per kill but takes longer so i just go for speed and drops. Random is random BUT the more 50s you kill the higher your chances of getting purples to drop. I got 3 thurs night in 1 run. 2 hold recipes and 1 targeted aoe.
I also use AE for tickets. I use them just for random rolls. I use a SS/Fire brute and a Stone/Fire brute to farm with. I run that one at +3x8 ( mainly cause im pling my other account) but after i hit the cap of 1500 tickets i reset. I roll 10-14 bronze, 25-29 and 35-39 silvers.
I don't use the market for "niches". I don't like buying recipes and crafting to resell. It bores me. I don't even craft all of my ticket rolls. Theres such a depleted market on certain items that my recipes sell for as much as crafted so i don't bother crafting. You don't have to be a market guru or read guides. I've made 10's billions and purpd out several toons on 2 accounts just by selling my drops at WW. And that's not counting the stuff i keep. I currently have 27 purples in a bin and 13 lotg 7.5 rechs. waiting on a couple of toons once i hit 50.
It really depends on your goal and how much free time you have. Run a quick farm or 2 then team or TF or whatever you normally do. -

Look around the forums. Tons of "how can i make a farming....", "will this be a good farmer", "what level should i farm" and so on.
Farming is not a science. You just need to know how to optimize your chances of farming. I just said, plan ahead and build a toon to handle what you want to farm. To most, it's simple. Kind of like a cats breath or something stupid like that. -
Seems so simple. I can hardly believe there are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooo many threads about it, huh?

I always see a ton of requests for farming builds. I just want to say, have a plan ahead of time. Choose what you want to farm, then choose your powers accordingly.
Example: If you looove to farm demons, then build a toon high in fire resistance. Then choose your attacks on what you like to see. I'd go Fire/SS/ or Stone/Fire. Alot of good AoE and ST attacks.
If you like to farm BM, then choose a high smash/lethal resist/defense build. Then your favorite attacks. I have an Elec/SD scrapper that does very good on this farm. /SD is easy to soft cap and has a good AoE attack in it.
Those are just a couple of examples. There are plenty of farms out there. The key is research. Know what damage your enemy does and build around staying alive, then damage. There's really no need to ask for a farming toon because everyone is going to give you a different answer. I can tell you i have 3 fave farm toons. Elec/SD, SS/Fire, and Stone/Fire. (other than my fire/kin) Now watch, someone will reply with totally different farming toons. lol. The main key, build to withstand what you want to farm. Have Fun!! -

I just got the animal booster. Animal fur appears in the upper body, lower body, and boots. Why no gloves? We can't go all natural... If im not mistaken, theres a couple other costume pieces that don't offer gloves to match the rest of the pieces. Any ideas?

I have a katana/regen scrapper and i can't tell you the last time i died in PvE content. He's heavily IO'd but no purps. I normally run all my content at 0x8, too.

Quote:thisI tend to look at it the other way round. If I'm teaming on a blaster, then there are other people on the team who look after my defense, either by holding aggro themselves, or with control/buffs/debuffs. So my job is dishing out as much damage as possible as fast as possible.

Quote:Ok.that's an amazing feature, where do I find those special bins? =P
It's only as time consuming as you make it.
I guess if you want to bid creep that's your business, but I don't waste time 'saving inf' on salvage, I buy what I need to craft what I have and do it. Recipes can take some time if you want to save, but most can be had for peanuts or a reasonable approximation of the 'last five' and a bit of patience.
As usual, you insist on doing everything the hard way and then making a big deal out of it. Alas for you, this forum is populated by people who know better. -
On something like FA and DA it seems impossible to reach the cap numbers. What %'s would make these two very sturdy? I was in mids on a spines/dark and am getting in teh mid 50's in resists, and upper 20- lower 30%'s in defenses. Would those %'s be good enough combined with the damage output to make me not faceplant every mob?

Quote:Isn't the SS/FA a freaking fun toon?!?! I have one, i love him!Double this.
Scrappers make best use of shields yadayadayada. I have a 50 DM/SD scrap, 45 SS/SD brute, and 50 SS/FA brute. The first and the last are fantastically good. The middle is fantastically boring and a ridiculous end hog, even with Superior Conditioning, Physical Perfection, and Endurance slotting. I really, really don't recommend it. Only do it if you must have SS. -
Quote:Especially when some crafted items are the same as uncrafted. derrr. lol. Not many, but i always compare. If its only a 5mil inf difference, i can't justify it when the rare salvage alone will eat up 1/2 that. Now, if its a 20mil or better difference, ill grab the recipe. lol.I agree, that does sound like it would take a lot of time. I sometimes put in a cheap bid and go run a mission, but usually NAO prices are well worth the convenience.
it always amuses me in other threads when someone starts ranting about all the "idiots" who are too stupid to bid-creep and ruining the game for everyone else because of how we cause inflation. I imagine these are the same folks who drive 30 minutes to the other side of town to save $.05 on a gallon of gas. -
If you can get it soft capd, go scrapper. SC hits waaaay harder on a scrapper than a tank. Im not sure about a brute, but i think it outperforms their damage output also. No need to worry about agro, i can pull agro off of a tank with mine. And no need to worry about survival if you can soft cap it because youll kill them ALOT faster than they kill you at 0-+3x8.
AT depends on your attacks. If you go Elec/SD or Fire/SD, go scrapper. If you want SS/SD i'd go Brute for the extra damage from Fury. The faster you kill, the less you have to worry about not dieing.
Ive also seen a nice vid on youtube of a DM/SD scrapper. If you want to go that route. Not to mention it gets a heal for when their hits so land. -
Quote:Im not sure i said i didn't do it because it was difficult. Or at least i don't think i did. But it is time consuming. Or at least longer than turning on my tv. Hmm, i think...are you one of those unfortunates that has to input data via eyeblinks, or something?
Because crafting junk in this game is about as difficult and time consuming as turning on the teevee.
If i have 100 recipes to buy, thats around 300-500 pieces of salvage. You can't hold that many at once so it requires multiple trips to the base and back, checking to make sure you have enough of each salvage for each recipe (sucks when u think u need 4 and go to craft and u needed 5 grr), then bid creeping 500 items. If it ISN'T time consuming i don't know what is. Even when i buy it nao at a rate over the last 5, it don't fill right away.
I do keep alot of recipes in bins, but it depends on what toons as to what IOs i need. Scrappers vary from Doms or Trollers. What im not able to get via rolls or farming purples, i have to go to WW.
Like i said, i have a family and a full time job. When i have time to "play" i don't want to spend it looking at the market. I know that may be hard to understand for some people. But everyones circumstances are different just like playstyles. But getting IOs forces you to use the market in some degree. I'd rather just be able to buy them by the set via some type of new system. A
Any more questions or statements? Ill check back in a bit. Can't wait.... -
Oh, i know you were talking to him. I just thought id toss my 2 cents, err 1.5, lol.
I personally don't mind farming. An alternative could be running radios at 0x8. The only major diff is time running to mishes and having to use vators. Ive been on teams (with globals) running radios and it felt like a PL. We ran purples and i leveled just as fast. But i won't pug so i get stuck farming when noones on.
As far as crafting vs. "nao", i just buy all my IOs crafted. I don't use IOs until i hit 50 (mainly because 20-40 is hard to come by) and by then i have sooooo many recipes to buy, crafting all of them takes 2 days. Ive done it once.
@ A.F. i get very good use out of tickets. That's where 90% of my billions came from. And i don't even craft those. I sell them for 222 mostly. Guess i just get lucky drops, but at 12k tix atta time im bound to get something good. Cept for the purples i've sold but now days i just hoard them to avoid paying whatever the inflation will be on my next 50. From 200mil to 500 since my last 50, i won't pay those prices. So i'll just bin 'em til i need 'em. -
Quote:Im not saying whats efficient or not, but if i only have an hour to play i can run 4 AE BM farms. Get 6000 tickets, unless i log both accounts then i have 12k tix. I normally roll silver and bronze. I get crap rolls but i get just as many good rolls. (enuff to keep me doing it, lol)No, that's not a PL. A PL is standing in a farm map and getting a 50 to mow down easy spawns over and over.
The time I spend bidding on salvage + recipes and crafting what I need to outfit a character is extremely small compared to the time it takes getting to 50 doing missions as you describe. At absolute most, I probably spend an hour per character on the activities that I need to add in buying recipes + salvage over and above what I would spend buying crafted enhancers outright. At extremely productive, non-PL paces, people are spending something like 100 hours of actual playtime getting from 1-50, assuming they don't also do something weird like only play when they have 10 bars of Patrol XP to spend.
So I'm adding 1% to that playtime, on characters that I usually end up playing for a couple thousand hours apiece. In exchchange, I pay like 1/2 to 2/3 the price. I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing the inefficiency. It's my opinion that if you consider that a meaningful time inefficiency, that's a sign of vast impatience.
Some say farms are inefficient, but i can't complain with what i have earned for myself. To each their own. However they choose to spend an hour is on them, but id rather kill stuff than mess with the market. Unless im posting the recipes i just rolled for 222 and some fast inf.
Last night for example, i got 2 ToD, 1 Perf Shift end proc, and a -kb IO to sell. Dropped them off for 222 each and made over 50mil. In less than an hour. (not counting the cheap stuff. i just deleted them) -
Regen sucks? I can probably do anything on my regen that your SD can do. Trust me, i have both. SD softcapd with perma hasten and alpha slotted. Kat/regen, no alpha yet but very solid build with IOs. kat/Regen was my first 50 in 2004 and i still have him.
First scrapper, id go with DM/SR. A heal with great defenses can't hurt.
Unless you want more AoE, then i'd go Fire. Maybe Fire/Dark or /Fire.
