I agree with you TwoHeaded. After being here 6 years or better and having free issues, powersets and costumes and now comes this F2P and having to use "points" or real money kinda don't seem too F2P. I wont spend any real money other than my 15 sub fee.
-
I agree. I hope this F2P doesn't start a whole era of real money involment for in game items. If so, i'll delete fast. My monthly fee is all im paying for, for a game. I dont buy slots, respecs, and i wont buy enh's either. F2P doesn't sound too F. LOL.
-
They are just as rare for me as they are for someone that may have LIFE situations that doesn't allow them to play as much as i do. But that doesn't mean that they don't "deserve" them. Well, to me it don't.
-
Quote:So do i, but i'll never say someone doesn't "deserve" purples or anything else in this game that they pay the same amount per month that i do. Just because i can play 20-30 hours a week don't mean others can.Look for an AE mission that says it's a Fire Farm. The mobs all do Fire damage, which you should resist at 90%. If you pop some lucks before and during, you'll hardly be hit. That means you can REALLY crank up the difficulty, like to +4/x8. They usually have multiple ambushes triggered off defeating bosses or destroying objects. You end up with a huge number of mobs around you. The mobs may rez so you can defeat them twice. Eat lots of red Inspirations and you'll be damage capped. Look around the guide section for macros to combine Inspirations and it'll be easy.
Volume or high end items. Buy 10 Aegis: End/Res recipes plus the salvage to craft them for 12M each, sell for 30M each, that's 150M profit on a stack of 10. Or buy a really expensive purple for 500M, sell it for 700M, that's 130M profit. The first is fairly safe but it's some work. The second is very risky and you need to have 500M to risk, but it's faster. Then again, you may spend more time tracking the market prices so you know which purple to use. And you don't want to have a whole lot invested in any single thing in case some little bit of i21 info causes a panic. The floor would drop out of the purple market if the devs said that you could buy purples for $1 each.
They have already added several different currencies that people can earn to buy purples or other rare Enhancements. But honestly, there will ALWAYS be a purple problem. Some people farm, others play a lot, others play efficiently. They EARN their purple, either directly or by earning enough Inf to buy them on the Market. The more casual players don't play enough to get many purple drops, and don't earn enough Inf playing so they can buy purples on the Market, so they don't deserve them. The real problem is that casual players have unreasonable expectations. The new currencies are an attempt to correct those expectations.
No actually I'm at the high end, even for Marketeers. I buy purples when I want them, and have hundreds on my characters already.
For it to take MONTHS to get 1 purple as an alternative to farming is ridiculous for regular gamers that like to play on teams (which also hurt their purple chances) and run missions and may not like to sit at WW and run back and forth crafting and all that crap to earn some inf. There needs to be some realistic options for EVERYONE, not just the ones that wanna stockpile of inf just to post pics in here for the "look at me im rich" crowd. -
Quote:Just get a durable (or toon that can easily handle mobs of 0x8) toon to 50 and run thru missions or farms and kill over and over or make a toon and get it all the way to lev 1 and sit it in WW and start searching for deals. Buy low/sell high stuff. I'd rather go kill stuff. This is a dumb question, I'll freely admit it. But I got out of the game shortly after Architect launched, and am only just getting back into it.
So I gather that there are ways to farm AE for lots of money, by dint of trading in tickets. How exactly does that work? I'd really like to understand it, purely for research purposes...
Eh...who am I kidding. I really want to get purples for some of my characters, but the prices they're going for on the market are totally ridiculous; I've never managed to scrape together more than a couple hundred mil at one time and I feel like I'm missing out. I see people talking upthread about earning 3 mil a minute and goggle. How can I do that?
Some say it's luck to get purples. I disagree. Its bound to happen, you just gotta go hunt them. Theyre not gonna fall in your lap. lol. -
Quote:Did I see Justice? I play evenings eastern. I'll have to keep my eyes open for 3 cool people running around. Have you been invited to the Justice United chat yet? If not, join it. It's full of people to run missions with. See you soon, maybe. So I officially owe everyone cookies! Thanks very much for the advice and encouragement.
Our group is certainly not in a rush - we prefer to play smart instead of zergrushing to a level cap and try to figure out what's next. Right now the biggest hurdle on missions is the two range classes learning how the /assist mechanic works in CoH, me trying to learn when to rescue a squishy and when he's okay, and all of us are figuring out whether to kill big red names or nice squishy blue names first. Oh and learning the mechanics of powers. Although some of the guides on the forums seem a little dated they're working for us
Thanks again for the encouragement (needed sometimes!) and excellent advice (woot I'm starting to understand slotting!). I think Arcanaville's defense guide is tonight's bedtime reading....last night's was an aggro mechanics guide!
Back to work so I can play on Justice tonight... -
Plant/Storm troller.
Fire/Storm Corr
Dark/Traps Corr (my project atm)
Ice/Rad troller (not alot of damage, but your teams will love you) -
id laugh so hard. maybe they will up the cap to 20 or better.

Quote:What do purples have to do with making a GA run faster? I don't see any speed boosts from them, just recharge. For me the purples are good for making such things as hastenless permadom or turbocharging stoner armor toon to not require SB as much if at all. Nowadays when I get a purple drop I sell it, or craft then sell it depending on price differential of recipie vs. crafted and use the funds to finance the construction of other alts.
As for more defense from using Nerve in Alpha, that is only about a 3% def boost which while nice can be obtained from certain IO's (one cheap, one too expensive) vs. the benefits of Cardiac helping to make ur alt into an energizer battery. -
Quote:Oh, i know. They can have at them. Im just saying what i do. A bill for one piece is a deal breaker for me. Ill just sell them and buy Kin Coms and Oblits. LOL.Fourspeed, Regarding low level recipes, I think you're making a bad assumption. You're assuming those are actually produced by low level players. In fact they're produced by SS/Fire brutes rolling on the low level bronze table, at least most of the ones that are in demand. And they aren't very rare anymore. Steadfast Protection: Res/Def and KB Protection both used to be worth something. Last I checked, one is vendor trash. In fact a fair number of low level recipes used to be worth 5-10M. Now there are very few. Bronze recipes are so cheap in AE that any dip in supply will be quickly covered, no matter what the level. Pretty soon farmers will be switching more to Gold rolls, because Bronze is so oversupplied.
Granted there aren't necessarily many low level bronze recipes on the market. You may have a hard time finding a Bonesnap if you want one. But that's just because people aren't bidding enough to get other people to list recipes, and so many recipes drop that it's hard to do the right thing with every one. There aren't enough transaction slots for lowbies to bid on everything they need, and sell everything other people want.
But I think you're absolutely right about reduced demand for lower level IOs. You don't need any Enhancements if you're being PL'd to 50. And even if you're playing, the increased speed means less time or need for IOs at lower levels. You can only put in a fairly small number of bids, and you virtually outlevel the stuff you buy. Bid on a level 18 Bonesnap: Acc/Dam when you're level 15, and you may get it when you hit 20, at which point you'd want a 23 instead.
Salvage will only stay high as long as people think it is better than recipes in AE. The day Platinum becomes better Inf/ticket than bronze rolls is the day Platinum prices crash. Part of my new farm is an analysis on how to effectively spend your tickets. I haven't started on it yet, but I expect to see a few surprises. Say I earn 9,999 tickets in 20 minutes. I can trade that in for 124 pieces of specific Uncommon Salvage. If some piece is selling for 150-250k and a flipper has enough outstanding bids at 150k, I can make over 18M Inf. Maybe that's better than Bronze rolls, maybe not.
With /auctionhouse, it becomes REAL easy to sell massive amounts of Common Salvage while standing at the ticket vendor, as long as there are outstanding bids. If there are several pieces of Common Salvage in the same category (say low level tech), then that becomes a good way to use tickets. Convert 9999 tockets to 1249 random pieces of Low Tech Salvage, scrap the half that is junk, sell the other half. Say 624 pieces at 50k each is 31M Inf. Consider this fair warning to all of you Salvage flippers.
I agree that changing demographics could be very disruptive to the Market, but I doubt that it will be. Given the emphasis on microtransactions, I'm guessing F2P and Premium players will be able to do most everything VIP players do if they pay for it. That means at least some F2P and Premium players will be generating and using purples, which means they're the same as VIP players for this analysis. Those F2P and Premium players who can't generate or use purples won't really affect this. The only problem would be if they can do one but not the other. If they can generate but not use purples, prices may drop big time. If they can use but not generate purples, that's just one more thing driving prices up.
Personally I'm looking forward to massive multiboxing. I got my old computer shortly before CoH was released in 2004, and I just replaced it this past Christmas. I may be able to run 8 accounts on my new machine. That's an entire Fire/Rad SuperTeam. If F2P players can get recipe drops, then this will likely increase farming rates and therefore purple production. We'll see.
eryq2, you may not want to buy purples at their current prices, but some people do. Prices are still going up, and the purples aren't sitting around gathering dust on the shelves. -
Well, they have gone from 30mil to 1bill and ave around 500mil. I don't see them going down. Why? You have people that like to play with the market as well as people that dont. Hoarding, deleting recipes, and all kinds of tricks go into the cost of them. Not just supply and demand.
Ive seen where the F2P users can't use WW so they won't affect us. And the AE farmers don't help with the purple population. I farm mainly in PI but i only sell the ones i don't need in my builds, so i have to hoard a bit, also, until i hit 50. Mainly because i won't buy purples at these prices.
Im not a fan of the alternate methods of obtaining purples, either. Why spend a month doing iTrials and Tips when i can run 2 to 3 farms and get one?
As far as AE is concerned; I'd rather do them for normal recipes and take my chances at rolls than to try to farm normal recipes. I get, on average, more purples than orange recipes farming. (not including temps) And that's another problem. LOWER THE TEMPS PLEASE. I get 3-5 normal recipes per run and about 15-20 commons. Maybe 1 worth keeping or selling. Most of the time, i just delete anything not purple. I can't tell you the last time i got a Kin Com, Numina, or Oblit from normal farm drops.
Well, that's all i have atm. -
With SB and AM, is endurance really going to be an issue? I wouldn't think so if SB is slotted with end mods.
-
@ Shadow and Nitrogen. On redside alot of people farm a Nemesis map from the Radio contact. On blue, i'd farm Freaks and BM. Those are the only two maps i get frequent purps from. I farm council, family, demons, freaks, and the BM map. I farm each map with a different toon and i know its RANDOM, but i promise i can count each purple i got on council and family on 1 hand. lol.
You don't "need" 2 accounts to be effective. I only have 2 so my wife can join me occasionally and i use it to pl each other. Running radios, tips or whatever can produce purples also. Run them at the maximum enemies that you can to optimize your chances. 0x8 is ideal and 0 bosses.
Freaks are thru Unai and the Bm is through Maria Jenkins i believe. Demons are fun, also but the tend to resist more making it take longer to kill. They are obtained through Harvey Maylor. The TV contact is obtained on the redside via a badge in G-Ville. -
Hubby> Dark/Dark def.
Bro in law> Kat/Dark scrap
You> Dark/Fire tank.
All dark theme could be very fun. -

Quote:Question. If you 3 box, are both of ur alts being pl'd? If so, i'd change that. Use your farmer and 1 to debuff and help speed thru the maps. Like i posted earlier, a fire/sonic may be the best afk helper. It has 3 imps to kill, hot feet, and a debuff toggle for your toon to allow you to kill faster. No need to even mess with that toon after you start. And just with common enh's on it, it is still a great follower. Faster maps= more inf coming in.I have shocked people with how ineffective I am. I was taking 1 to 2 hours to 3box 5 tip missions with 2 door sitters who could die for all I care. Because my softcapped fire/sr scrapper couldnt hang tough on -1x3 for some foe types. So pinnbadges (server global channel) had me post a build and thought it was decent. So a few of them followed me around in a mission. Nobody could quite figure out why I was slow. Someone felt sorry for me and gave me a crafted purple. I was a bit embarassed but it was a nice gesture. My first "pity purple".
Anyway, I threebox the battle maiden map but two are always door sitters. Maybe that is part of why I am slow. Maybe im doing a diff map tho. Its bm champions of war and such on that classic map but I average 1000 tickets a map and it takes me 30 minutes. Maybe 25.
I dunno.
Lewis
I can do the whole freak map on my scrapper in 30-40 min solo. 15 or so on the BM maps. -
Quote:That's pretty much what i mean. Both are great but it depends on what you like to do. 45 min to check all your toons plus farming wont leave alot of TF, mish, Oro, iTrials time. Unless you just have 2-3 hours to play a day. I don't. In that same time of 45 min i can run 1.5 big freak maps. I on ave. have gotten 1 purp in about that many runs. Last week i got 13 in 15 runs. This week(today) im 0 for 3. lol. But i can still hit the 2 bill mark per week on just a couple of those purp drops. So, to me, it depends on if you like killing and playing your toons or using them as market holders. For me marketing has made me alot of inf, at the moment I'm making 2-2.4 bil every 5 days and checking atleast 3 of them 5 days, not much compared to some people but all my 50s are io'ed so I'm a happy a chappy
. Takes 45 mins to check all my toons though, if did purple farming, AE ticket farming as well I could make alot more. Johnny

Quote:How is it taking you 30 min per BM run on a fire/kin? I have one on each account and both can run it in less than 15min. And you're running 3 and can't make money? Hmm. Sounds like something is really off.I see people making crazy ticket rates, I guess by doing these fire farms. However, those make me nervous and I dont have any characters that can do them. I have a simple fire/kinetics controller. I run either "real" battle maiden or else a clone of it I made. Nothing cheesy.
But I am slow compared to what I see here. I threebox an ae battle maiden (usually power leveling my alts) and I am slow so it takes me 30 minutes a run and I probably only generate 800 to 1200 tickets per character per run.
So for a slow dog like me, am I better off doine real battle maiden, ae battle maiden, or something else?
I would like to threebox five tip missions each night as well but I play tons of squishies and/or sucky builds and/or I am a fairly poor player anyway.
So vonsidering all that, what approach should I take? I am a bit tired of having high level characters but no cash to rub together to outfit any well.
Thanks,
Lewis
I had 3 before and know which BM AE you're talking about. I've pl'd plenty in there. What i did was use one account for each roll type. 1 got golds, 1 silvers and 1 bronzes. You should be hitting the cap on each toon. So, 1500x3 every 15 min or so. That's a ton of tickets per day of farming. Which should = a ton of influence.
I don't know what toons you're running but i ran a Fire/kin with a fire/rad and fire/sonic following. 9 imps, SB, FS and the Sonic debuff toggle speeds things up greatly. Now, i only have 2 accounts and with the inf invested in them i just use my elec/sd to farm for inf in PI and a SS/Fire brute to pl people in AE at +4x8. Farming in PI seems to pay off as much as anything else in game, imo.
I flip between Freaks, BM, Council, Family. I have different farmers with different farms. I use my elec/sd mainly but also use a Plant/fire Dom, Fire/fire tank, ss/fire brute, elec/kin troller, fire/kin troller, dp/fire blaster(deleted now). When i get tired of one i switch to another. lol. But i'd def leave AE from time to time for purples. -
Time in game = time in game. What you choose to do is going to take time. If it's farming, flipping, AE farming, crafting recipes(which can be very profitable as i've seen some recipes sell as much as 15mil less than crafted or more) It all boils down to what you want to do with your game time. Do you want to play missions or make inf.
I'd rather farm in PI. I've outfitted 2 accounts with purple toons as well as very nicely IO'd toons. For someone to say they farm in PI at 0x8 and never get any purples, i call foul. I do, and know 2 others that farm more than they do missions and other stuff, and we generate plenty of purples and sit on more than 30-40bil inf. To say they don't get any is unbelieveable to me. Like i said before, i got 13 this past week by running 1-2 runs per day or about an hour a day. -
-
Well, all i have is purps. I dont do any pvping or id try to swap with ya. Sorry.
-
How do you take a pic in there? I want to show off, too, and shove all my shinies in the players faces that don't have near what i do. It's a great feeling, im sure.
-
Quote:Unless the ones arent on the market, you have alot more than you need. Just sell off and buy?Maybe someone has an IO i'm looking for and happens to need one I have. I don't expect to get every single one, and will end up selling whatever is left in order to buy what I need. The prices don't need to match up completely, as i'm not here to make money, just build my PvP toon. That being said, i'm not trading you my Glad armor proc for a glad jav dmg/rech, the rough prices should be somewhat considered.
Quantity - IO - current price on market
I have:
1 - Glad armor proc - 2.5 bill
4 - Glad Strike procs - 400 mill
1 - Heca dmg/rech - 550 mill
2 - Heca procs - 200 mill
2 - Heca acc/rech - 550 mill
2 - Heca acc/end/rech - 600 mill
2 - Heca dmg/end - 700 mill
1 - Glad strike acc/end/dmg/rech -500 mill
1 - Glad strike acc/end/rech - 400 mill
2 - level 53 (actually 52+, but exact same 38.3/38.3) Nucleous Exposure - 600 mill
2 - level 53 (again, 52+) Synethetic Nucleous Exposure - 500 mill
I want:
2 - Glad jav dmg/rech - 100 mill
2 - Glad jav dmg/acc - 250 mill
2 - Glad jav dmg/end/rech - 100 mill
2 - Glad jav acc/end/rech - 500 mill
2 - Glad jav acc/dmg/end/rech - 650 mill
4 - Glad jav proc - 1.1 bill
1 - Fury of the glad proc - 1 bill
-Make all offers here on this thread- -
Personally, i farm and sell my drops. I farm PI and AE for tix. In the past week, from saturday to saturday i got 13 purple drops by farming in PI on my elec/sd scrapper. If you are on Justice youve probably seen them in the JU chat. I didn't sell all of them and still made over 3 bill. Not counting teh commons i vendored or inf from kills.
I don't market, other than just selling my drops. I could care less about flipping and the time spent doing that, i could be farming. But, with that said, if you do both, that's probably the fastest way to make inf. But every minute in WW, is less minutes getting tix or purps.
If you have 2 accounts, like i do, then in AE save tickets on one for silver and/or gold rolls on one toon and roll bronze on the other. You can make great inf in the 10-15 bronze rolls. -
Quote:Ive been wanting that since the market came out. A way to select the levels of the rolls. Always getting the maximum level of IOs is making everything else more expensive because of the supply and demand theory. But why would I slot what I can sell? My character works as-is. =)
If I got more level 30 serendips I'd be rather likely to slot them, but the 40s I can't stop myself from selling. And since I can't roll for anything but my level or max level, I never get anything but 40s (except on my lowbie ticket farmers who are 15 and 20 so they aren't offering much of an upgrade anyway).
I either need inflation to obliterate the value of my drops so I have no motive to craft and sell, or to actually be able to select the level range of random rolls. Sigh. I'm doomed, because the market isn't. =)
