Is this to be a built-to-order laptop or an off-the shelf?
in either case, some idea of your budget will allow people to make informed suggestions, as opposed to pie-in-the-sky getthisubershinyonenao!!!.

You will likely not have any choice but to get a dual core CPU, if you want to be able to run the game at "default" graphics well, then steer clear of integrated video chipsets, and try to get at least 3GB of RAM.

    Thank you.
I suppose the budget is up to about $2,000 for the whole thing. I wish I could give a clear answer. But it should be built-to-order, I know that much.
  2. It's finally time for a new computer! But I'm a little clueless as to what type of video card, memory, etc and was hoping for some direction. I would have looked at system requirements, but there seem to be some ramifications with Vista...? To help, here is what I want:
-It will be laptop (most likely with Vista)
-I want to be able to run BOTH CoH and CoV at default graphics (and run them well)
-And I'm not filthy rich, so it can't be some sort of super computer
With that in mind, suggestions on video cards, memory, etc?
  3. The powers are a bit irrelevant. You need 8 people that get along, and know how to play the game. In other words: No Leeroy Blasters, no Scrapperlock Scrappers, no n00b Defenders and Tank that actually puts enhancements in their powers.
  4. I like the server system...
People can make fun of things like "Freedumb," etc.
Plus what every else said... names, crashing, all that.
  5. I scoured Camo_Fire's "Compiled List of Binds" and could not find the AFK bubble begin chat bind. You know, the one that makes an AFK bubble appear (with some sort of message other than "AFK") when you're typing...
Anyone care to share it with me?

    Natural heroes

You could try an Archery or Assault Rifle Blaster with Devices. Or maybe a Trick/Arch Defender. Those three seem very natural. Or if you don't mind fudging a bit, Arch/Mental is an AWESOME combination for a Blaster. As a Scrapper, I'd say Katana/SR is pretty good. A great build, but it blooms late.
  7. Something I've been curious about, how do you all think City of Heroes: Going Rogue will affect the unlocking of Epic Archetypes? I think unlocking Kheldians will involve a level 50 Blaster, Scrapper, Tanker, Controller or Defender. Conversely, the Soldiers of Arachnos will be unlocked by getting a Stalker, Brute, Corruptor, Dominator or Mastermind to 50. However, it makes little sense that a Villain gone Hero (then hitting 50) would unlock an Arachnos Soldier...
    So, thoughts?
(I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. I couldn't decide between here and player questions)

Thank you 7th. do you know what side and AT it will be under? Do you think it will be like the gunslinger in malta, or mor on the Gun Kata style people mentioned waaaay back when players first asked for it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Demon Summoning will almost assuredly be a Mastermind primary (not that it matters much, since you'll be able to switch sides at some point). Dual Pistols will likely show up in a few different ATs, and will probably be more Malta Gunslinger than Equilibrium.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Desdemona seemed more Corruptorish to me... but Demon Summoning makes A LOT more sense for a Mastermind.
Also, everyone should note that new powersets were NOT officially announced. They are highly likely, however =]
  9. [ QUOTE ]
yet for a tanker; brute or scrapper it is a non issue

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Honestly?
Did you not read "Soloable by a Defender"?
  10. First of all, you can't charge ANY Archetype with "Healing." Corruptors and Masterminds do posses your buff/debuff sets though. They both, however, operate at less power than a Defender's sets. This means buffing is really no one Archetype's job, I think. I'd say that Corruptors and Masterminds share the same burden in buffing/debuffing.

    Pain Domination

It's a lot more soloable then it's "counterpart", Empathy. WoP is very nice, and healing someone gives you a nice damage buff. My only gripe with it is that your average idiot will criticize you for not healing sufficiently. But hey, get over them and play the set as it should be played... it is a SECONDARY set, after all.
  12. Tanks will make Brutes look silly, redside. I've noticed that your non-Brute player must take caution in using their attacks, as you can never rely on Brutes to completely hold aggro. And if they are, there's a chance they're getting themselves in deep... stuff. HOWEVER, Brutes blueside will attract your Scrapperish types.
    Here's my main point:
Brutes and Scrappers are NOT team players when compared to the Tanker. Right now, they're all redside has to offer in terms of tanking (well, Tankerminds... but yeah...). I think side-switching will put Brutes (as a tanking force) in their place -- right behind Tankers.
  13. With the introduction of Maelstorm and Desdemona, I think we'll see Dual Pistols (he had two holsters) and Demon Summoning (as she's described) in the future. Blade Melee... I don't know...
  14. I personally find WP/SS to be a great combination. The two sets go well together, especially conceptually.
Plus, Rage's animation matches the WP toggles =]
  15. FINALLY! Thank God, yes... Communication Officers nerf, the game will make an attempt at returning to normal. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU.
It was fun while it lasted, though. But there is definitely such thing as too much of a good thing!

The sole and complete issue I have with farmers and those who make farm maps, is that they are the cause for having certain enemies, sometimes entire enemy groups, no longer being available in MA because of their abusing them for farming purposes. This directly impacts me as an MA author in that I can no longer use content because of those people.

They effectively have stolen part of the game from me that I used to have access to, but now do not. And yes, I DID have access to it. Since MA's launch, a large number of mobs have been removed from MA and I fear even more coming soon. The attitude of "farming doesn't hurt anyone else" is completely bogus when it comes to the MA. If you farm in this manner, such that it causes the devs to punish us all for your actions, then you ARE harming everyone else. Continuing to deny it will just prove that you don't care if you hurt others or not.

If your actions don't impact me, I don't care what you do, but as soon as I am losing access to parts of the game I once had because of you, well now we have an issue.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I especially agree with the "farming doesn't hurt anyone else is bogus" statement. It siphons our enemy groups, it siphons possible teammates away from other parts of the game. Farming should be minimized to a choice, as it was before MA. A farm team pre-MA wasn't as freakishly effective as those are now. Some of us like to work hard for XP, but XP nonetheless. Farming is not work, as in the example of the Comm officers. My suggestion: set ALL enemies in MA to the custom critter XP base. If that's possible, that is.
  17. And here I thought I was crazy. My computer has never been great for gaming (runs CoH sub-standardly, to say the least), but only very rarely crashed. Twice today... Once during a load into an AE mission, the other in the middle of a fight (I just activated Inferno on my Blaster).
    I want fixes...
  18. That could work. It would also curb new players (BRAND NEW, that is) from PLing their ways to 50, as an added bonus =]
  19. Illusion gets solotastic at level 18 (Phantom Army). But before that you're not really worth much unless you take Deceive (which drops your XP). Flash is unreliable (long, long recharge), and Spectral Wounds and Blind are only decent for damage. But after you get PA, you'll be a very happy soloist.
Sorry, I don't know much about plant.
  20. They ought to make you ENTER a mission before you go rating it.

    Custom AV's

Anything with above "Standard" level Regeneration is very, very hard. Dual Blades is painfully weak. My non IO Scrapper build (he's Willpower) could AFK and not die... DB was on "Extreme" too.
[Anything]/Stone Armor is not fun, even if they do not have Granite. Oh, I tried Energy Blast/Mental Manip., both extreme. He wasn't bad until he popped Drain Psyche
  22. My God I want 60 months. Too bad I'm sitting around 27 xDD

Infinity was the only down server for 2 hours after I12 went live. Why does Freedumb get special treatment?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Seriously.
  24. Good! I'm about to hit 50 on my Scrapper, and I really need one. A little surprising though, most power changes were PvP if I remember correctly.
