  1. Ah, now you see, I quite like the fact that the peds can be targeted, my thugs/dark MM sees them as the healing targets when things are going pear-shaped!

Although if you target by double clicking a power it won't choose a ped if there's a mob to hand (I don't think).

And as for Arbiter Lupin, I must admit I've never really had much of a problem getting there, and of course once you hit level 14 you have your travel power and you're sorted!

I'm in the Draw the World Together camp - firstly because of the links with NCSoft and CoX, but also it's not country-specific. As the Maestro problems thread has shown - we have people all over Europe (and of course there's always our colonial cousins ! )

Unfortunately, as fabulous a charity as Great Ormond Street is, it is seen as a UK charity...

    Just my tuppen'th!
  3. Whoo-hoo! That little piccie that's on the official site looks great ML! Did you do it, or is GhostRaptor a super-duper graphics designer in his spare time?

Oh, one small issue with the article on the site - BST ends this Saturday/Sunday, so we're back to GMT for the race itself!

See, I knew there was an advantage to working for an airline - timezones are a bit of a forte of mine!

And np ML, happy to do what little I can!

Oh, and I think those people who don't check the boards should be dragged over here and winked at by GG until they capitulate, or she gets her animated hair - whichever comes first!
  4. Okie dokie Mumsie - the wiki page has been updated!

    It sounds great!

    Not a problem ML

I've had a message saying that we're now allowed to set up an actual page for this sort of thing so it now has it's own page, rather than having to share the page with the Supreme Superbeings Awards, you can find the actual page here. Although I don't know how long it'll stay there so I'll keep my userpage updated too!
  6. Actually, here's one for you, what about Stalkers? Are they allowed to use Stealth?

Edit: And how about Grant Invis etc...?

  7. Another alternative (if you have enough Marshals) would be to have each of them hold a particular type of salvage. Each Marshal then gives a piece to the entrants, the winner has to have each of the salvage pieces and be at the right place. Only the final Marshal/Referee/Mothers_Love knows what all the pieces are so that people can't cheat.

It's just an alternative idea if you'd like people to visit specific places
  8. Standoff - I Love Shafty McTwang - and his/her backstory just adds to the greatness!

I forgot to mention Dotty Parton earlier - My Mutant Grav/Kin Troller who only got her powers to support her enormous... assets!

And of course Camilla Highwater and Shirley Knot.

All I want now is for power proliferation to allow me to make a Kin/AR defender so that I can use Rick O'Shay!!!
  9. There's some great names there - I'm always impressed by the originality of people in the game!

Well, I'm a sucker for a pun, not sure how many of these I still have (as I suffer from chronic Alt-itis and have to delete quite regularly, but I have had (and may still have):

Fairy 'Nuff - My Arch/Arch Defender
Jester Minute - I still can't find the best AT and powers for him./her but I will (eventually!)
San Andreas (and his Battle Cry "It's Not My Fault!"),
Anna Matronix - Bots/FF MM who's bots are ex puppets whose felt has been burnt off
Djinn and Tonic (a Genie) - Grav/Storm troller (because Grav can create things from thin air - yay Propel!
    Camilla Highwater
the Fashion Police (who was created for Hallowe'en)

Unfortunately I lost my first ever character's name (Doc Tech) - as I found out when I tried to recreate him (he's currently over in the Test Server languishing).

I was however gutted when I found out that I had to change my Scrapper - she was called Liberty Belle, but is now Liberty Gal
  10. Nah, I just don't have internet access at work so I have to wait until I get home, and by the time I do everything that I would say has already been said by someone else who does have access!
  11. How quickly people forget the news article from March this year when we in the EU ran our own similar competition, The Supreme Superbeings Awards which, although it wasn't funded, we had some prizes donated (*Snaps* for Mothers_Love again!)

It seems that this is the same situation in the US, it's just that their donated prizes are a bit more bling. (But then again, isn't that just the American way, see something from the old country and pimp it up? )

When we ran the Awards this year we did discuss doing it again next year around Easter (and I'm still up for it!) but of course community events etc... can be arranged by anyone so why not try it!

And if anyone wants a hand with organising something consider me an open volunteer to help out!

Oh, and GhostRaptor was a star with helping too!

  12. Sinergy_X,

This is my bugbear about CoX. I played a game called The Realm many moons ago and they had 5 Global channels that were automatically available to everyone, there was a channel for New Players to ask questions/chat/find out a bit more about the game/meet people, there was a General Chat for just that, a Looking for Groups chat, Channel 5 was the terrifying Sales channel where all the l33t speakers lived, and an Events channel.

The idea was that the channels were primarily aimed at their specific reasons, but you could go off topic so long as any on topic messages/requests weren't lost. This helped to foster the Community Feel right the way across the game and was fantastic. The GMs monitored the Chat sometimes, but usually it was watched over by a number of player-moderators who had the facility to mute someone for up to an hour, which gave them the chance to forward any abuse of the EULA to the GM that was on duty. They were also able to call on the services of a GM quickly, so if you had a problem the channel Moderator would be able to call the available GM.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think we need player-mods in CoX but I do think maybe we could look at the "chat-snobs" that we have in CoX a little, why can't Arena be used for some friendly chatting if it's not being used to arrange Arena matches? Would the help channel be used a bit more if people saw it coming up on their screen? I keep having to double check that I have it loaded into my tabs it's so rare that I see it being used.

I know it may be a bit flame-baity, and I'm sorry if it appears that way, but I just think that channels being used more would equal them also being used more for what they're intended.

  13. I like this idea, and would certainly buy the ribbon.

I think though that it would really need Ribbons (Plural) that were already coloured, there are a couple of charities that use multi-coloured ribbons/bands, which we wouldn't be able to duplicate ourselves.

And for those who are wondering "What does NCNC/NCWest/Whatever they're called today get out of this?" - just imagine...

you go to news.bbc.co.uk and there on the top of the tech pages isn't another story about WoW or Second Life, but instead there's this headline:

Caring Heroes Save the World, one ribbon at a time

so just in case people haven't guessed:

  14. See you later spidermonster - I hope you enjoy whatever you choose to do next! and remember - if not, we'll still be here!
  15. I'm afraid I have a huge aversion to the colour - there's a reason it's a four-letter word.

I think it's a great idea though and I'll certainly make a cyan-y/purple cossie that's as close as I can bear.
  16. See, THIS is why I don't post as much as I would like!

Lionsbane, I think that there were a few reasons that this post was dismissed almost immediately.

Firstly, there have been a few "CoX is the greatest thing since bread before it was even sliced!" threads recently. And almost every one of them (if not every one - I can't be bothered to trawl through them to double check!) mentions the SK/Exemplar system as one of the best bits.

Secondly, the title of a post is very important. If you made a post called "Storylines - lose 'em" or "Costume Creator - lose it" then I think you'd get a similar response.

The third point that concerned me was after I opened the post. To me this is a suggestion, and may have been better placed in the Suggestions forum. I know that I have a different mindset when I go into the Suggestions forum than when I'm in General Discussion.

I'm a big fan of the "Take a deep breath before saying something" train of thought, and I always re-read what I'm saying before posting it (show preview is my way of checking formatting AND content!) The issue that I have with the way this discussion went was that you seemed to jump on people almost immediately, as if you were spoiling for a fight when you posted this.

When I read a post I always think "is there another (i.e. innocent) way that this could be read?"

But anyway, to answer your suggestion:

I think that the SK system "as is" is a great idea. I'm not keen on the idea of lots of SK's to one Mentor - it doesn't seem to fit the idea that I have of superheroes (oh, and on that note - am I the only person who thinks of Steed and Emma Peel when I hear The Avengers" )

The possibility of abuse is just too open for me, and I think it would mean waaay too much dev time to work out the kinks, when they could be working on new content and fixes to broken stuff. You've been a huge proponent of the "CoX needs to work hard over the next few months" ideal so I'm sure you'll understand where I'm coming from.

And my final thought was using the example you gave - I spend most of my time in PuGs (as I'm a casual player) - and so if I was caught in that situation it would be an incentive to try to find a replacement Mentor - thus allowing me to meet yet another new (and fantastic!) person.

I hope this is read in the spirit that it was written.
  17. Thanks Mothers_Love, Rapthorn, Golden_Girl and Alphane,

I did prepare a reply earlier but I'm not sure where it went. But just to repeat it - My new decade's resolution (yep, I'm now officially not a twenty-something any more!) is to get more involved in the CoX community (so expect to see a few more posts - although maybe not as many as GG! )

Oh, but first I'm going to go and play with the 30 rubber ducks my cousin sent me! Rubber ducks rule!
  18. I normally don't post on these Birthday threads (solely because I'm more of a lurker with occasional spurts of posting)

But Hippy Burpday Cpt_Lightspeed - it's the best day to have one!

    (OK, maybe I'm biased!)

    Flash mobs!

    Awwww!

I thought we were going to do something along the lines of the Urban Prankster type. It's been rather well received up here in Newcastle!

(We even made the local news!)
  20. I'm beginning to wonder if "The love that dare not speak it's name" has decided to find a megaphone and take over this thread, but I can assure you Rapthorn - you are not alone!

Actually, I seem to remember a few years ago someone set up an LGBT supergroup, my memory's a bit sketchy but the name "Rainbow Warriors" springs to mind. Actually - That's given me an idea, but that's a topic for another thread and I'll stop derailing this one - Sorry to the OP!
  21. I always transfer one mill inf onto a new starting character, not for enhancements etc... but solely to buy the hallowe'en salvage - I like having a minimum of 2 costumes on my characters, I'm what's known as "Vain"!

  22. I don't know any of the Community team, I've never been able to get to a player meet or any of the conventions but hearing that any company is faced with compulsory redundancies is bad. I would however like to add my sympathies to those already posted.

Rockjaw, _Aero, Bridger (and possibly Kerensky) you've done a fantastic job, and deserve much kudos. I'd like to wish you all the best with whatever direction your life takes you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This made me smile - thanks GG, I think I'm going to use this phrase from now on! {{ It sure beats "he loves CoX(!) }}

And to the OP - yes CoX has spoiled you, just as it's spoiled us all. There's nothing that can compare to City of... for individuality, creativity and community.

I started off my MMO life with "The Realm" - which was a 2D awful awful mess up of a game, but that didn't deter me, I went over to BiosFear - which was streets ahead, but there was no community (one thing I'll give The Realm - it might not have gameplay, graphics, a storyline - but the community was fantastic - as long as you avoided Channel 5 (the sales channel!)

Then I found CoH - it was great - I was able to create a frikken superhero! And he looked great - I loved it almost immediately. But there was something missing, and I couldn't put my finger on it - so I carried on paying but played very rarely - then I got my invite to CoV beta, I thought - let's have a bash and finally realised what CoH was missing!

I love CoX, when I moved to my laptop I had serious problems with getting CoX to work though, and so I had a look around for what I could get that would work. WoW just didn't push my buttons - the game world's pretty, and I love the fact that you can walk forever without the loading screens but it has one major drawback - the customers! And of course the limiting character classes.

I'd heard great stuff about Eve so I gave that a try, but like the person that mentioned it earlier - even the tutorial bored the pants off me, and the way that you improve your skills (I mean really - start learning a skill and then you have to wait hours/days until you get your next level?!?!)

CO and DC might be making new Superhero MMOs but I'm afraid they'll have to drag me kicking and screaming while prising my cold dead fingers from the servers of CoX.

City of... is just the best, and even though it's dated I'm afraid that, as a non-techie person, I don't see it - the graphics are good enough for me, the stories are immersive, and the customisation options breathtaking. Of course the community is just the very gorgeous icing, marzipan fruits , candles, hundreds and thousands and other cake toppings!

  24. ...we had another " War_Witch is great" thread!

I noticed in this thread that 1Damz thinks CoX rocks because we have BaB . Now I'll admit that BaB's posts can be quite humourous. And it's nice to see some honest feedback without the politicking (although sometimes I do want to send him a dictionary with the word "Tact" highlighted!)

But I'm afraid even BaB has to bow to the fantastic War_Witch . Here's a few little gems I've picked up recently that I thought were great - anyone else found any more recently?

Random Ped in Atlas Park - "WHAT is the deal? I have been standing here for DAYS and not one bus. Why put a bus stop here if there's no bus?"

Crey Vigilant in RWZ - "Vanguard doesn't scare me. I don't care if they're cloaked in Impervium or Fairy Petals I'll still find a way to take them down!"

Newsie - "Something about Power Prolifer-- Power Pro-- Something about power stuff! Read all about it! I can't pronounce it!"

Random Ped at the Steel Canyon Monorail Station - "I hear the north is really nice in Autumn." (yes, War_Witch allows the peds to say Autumn - like a civilised person, none of this awful "Fall" stuff!

So, join me in a celebration of the greatness that War_Witch brings to the game!

  25. I'd like to bring us back to the direction that the thread had headed to if I may please. (Oh, and I'm using Quick Reply so it's not aimed at anyone!)

I think that the larger group of posters on this forum have the right idea - sorry Lionsbane, but I spend most of my time lurking on the forums rather than posting but this thread has got my dander up! ("Me dander's up, me cone's out!" to any dinnerladies fans out there)

I think that you seem to be forgetting something Lionsbane. Very few games are perfect when they come out, even less have everything that they state they're going to, so yes - a few people may run to the other games as "Oooh! Shiney!" and these games will probably be released in a blaze of publicity. All NCNC have to do is release I13 WHEN IT'S READY, and then wait. People will go to the other games and may say "It looks pretty but there's no gameplay" or "I wanna play Super-duper Man, why do I have to work for Batman? Waaaah!"

Then all CoH has to do is sit back and say - Oh! look over here, a great superhero MMO that's been established for years with great storylines, a fantastic community and YOU'RE the star...

And watch the subs come flooding in...
