Quote:So you mean #1. Why did you not say #1?4. Tankers have, with IOs, lost the title as the most survivable thing in CoH by far. They can still outlive Brutes, but it's not as clear cut anymore. A small, but useful addition could give the Tanker its uniqueness back, or if that isn't possible, give it a new one.
-
step 1: define the problem
1. brutes can get effectively the same if not exactly the same resistance as tankers.
solution - nerf brutes. The brute res cap is an outlier which is not required to make brutes as good as scrapers.
2. tankers cannot solo well
solution - bruising. Tankers are a team focused AT, much as defenders are. They are not intended to solo as well as brutes/scrappers. But they can solo well enough (x0/+1 being the definition of well enough).
3. tankers do not have a needed role in a team
solution - no AT has a needed role in a team. That's a primary point of CoX. There are 12 AT's, none can be required and teams have to expect that even with 8 characters they often will not have a tanker.
4. ???
What is the problem you are trying to solve. The vague "tankers need something" will never be fixed. -
we do scheduled content release (not movies)
releasing good content when there is some great content just out is foolish. You just don't get the sales you want.
makes sense to pull it. Especially since the first one wasn't very good. It is just a good filler for spring when there are no good action movies -
dang.
I wasn't a fan but my wife really liked the show -
We have netflix streaming only.
My 8 year old daughter saw the Thor movie, so we watched Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes together on netflix streaming. She loves it and is watching them again without me.
We tried one of the X-men with them as adults and Jubilee. The animation was murky and it was confusing and grim -all about mutants being bad.
We have watched some Spiderman and His Amazing Friends and she likes that.
So I'm trying to find other good, fun (no dark) animated superheroes on netflix streaming, or hulu or other places.
And is the new season of the Avengers available somewhere (not pirated)? -

Quote:I agree. I've done Posi 1 and 2 about 10 times and I still have no real idea what the story is. Why are the clockwork trying to blow up the dam? What are the CoT doing involved at all? What does Vahz's plan to make the world a better place have to do with the dam?The biggest issue with storytelling in the game is that the game design is so adverse to story telling.
The arcs look cool and are fun, but there is no story that I get as a player in a team. -
the tanker soloing problem is that being tough only helps you solo if you can use AoE's to take down groups of foes.
This is where JB's complaint about effective survivability comes in. At the end of the day it does not matter if your defense is 10% or 90%, what matters is if you get defeated.
A scrapper has enough toughness for soloing. On the spreadsheet the have less survivability than tankers. On the scoreboard of times defeated soloing they have the same survivability as tankers.
Tankers need more toughness than scrappers because they take longer to defeat foes solo. They don't benefit from being tougher, they just can survive the extra time it takes to defeat foes.
Extra toughness helps if you can up the difficulty and benefit from that. If a tanker could go to x2 and take down twice as many minions just as fast, then they would benefit from being tough enough to take on twice as many foes. I only play tankers with a damage aura for that reason.
Some sets such as Mace once you get to 28+ and super strength at higher levels get good AoE. But for the most part a tanker just gets to let more foes pound on them while they pick them off one by one. -
who's there

let me try again.
Are you going to give someone a bunch of video and they will do with it what they want?
Are you going to give someone a bunch of video and tell them to trim each to 5 seconds?
Are you going to give someone a bunch of video and a detailed list of edits for them to do? -
I just did the last 2 contacts in Croatoa to unlock Katie. I had expected it to be a grind, but it wasn't. The missions have a lot of detail in them. Putting up stones, digging things up, lots of chatter.
I think I'd just played them so much in the past the detail didn't really register anymore.
And the last 2 contacts don't have defeat alls that make the early parts of Croatoa a grind. There are several escorts which take searching, but they don't require that much fighting.
I also did the last 2 contacts in Striga recently to unlock Hess. These also lacked the defeat alls that plague the first contacts. There was one defeat all Banished Pantheon, but I auto completed it.
All in all I don't think I will skip these in the future. I'll skip the first 2 and then do the last 2. They were pretty fun and well done. -

Imagine you cannot gain any XP, get no new powers, no influence, etc. Maybe you are max level, everything is slottted with purples. You have every badge. There is nothing left to buy.
With no rewards to influence what you do in game, what would you do?
I find teaming to be the most satisfying. I like a variety of foes and a variety of maps. I suspect I would want to team with people for radio missions. A fair amount of variety that is very convenient.
I would do Sutter's TF because it is epic and fun, maybe the Posi's. The other TF's I would probably avoid because they are long and tedious. -
I didn't get from this thread what you actually wanted people to do.
I get that demo editing is editing a text file. But a monkey can do that.
What are you actually asking people to do? -

If you want to play in AE, here are some arcs (not mine) to play for levels 31-40. I recommend all arcs listed below. The star rating is my own for dividing them here, I would rate all of them 4 or 5 stars in game.
Missions do not include EB's or AV's unless noted. I rate missions based on their story and the quality of the missions themselves. The story should be interesting and the missions themselves should be fun.
Feel free to post additional arcs for level 31-40 and I will try to play them and put them in the top post if I like them. I still have more to play through but I figured I would at least start the thread in case people are looking for arcs to play.
5 Star Arcs ---------
Level: 25-50, ID#:497506, Name: A Mosaic of Shattered Dreams
Perfect intro text – easy to read, fairly short, dramatic and personal. Great story. Marred by a chain of glowie clicking on 4th mission that took forever – search the end room and ignore the others.
Level: 1-54, ID#: 543322, Name: Meet the Author
Hilarious, verging on silly. The contact is perfect. The plot is great. Mission details are good. Ending is surprisingly excellent. Some missions are a little long for the detail.
Level: 22-40, ID#: 1388, Name:*Celebrity Kidnapping
Villainous. Humorous. Great in every way. Contact, story, mission detail.
Level: 25-33, ID#: 245534, Name: Condemning Croatoa
Villainous. Contains AV's and a GM. Croatoa storyline for villains, truly focused on story telling not combat. Tells the background of Croatoa more clearly and goes through the storyline much better than the regular arc. You can play this for the challenge of AV's and a GM, but you are provided with allies as part of the storyline so that they can be soloed without difficulty.
4 Star Arcs ------------
Level: 1-54, ID#: 534435, Name: Hero Space Corps: The abandoned freighter
A good implementation of Alien in a single mission. The mission works well with a series of tasks that rarely require back tracking. Aliens look reasonably good. Four stars because while there is not a lot to the story, it is short and fun while it lasts.
Level: 1-54, ID#: 534498, Name: The Blonde Brawler Gets Her Cape Back
Single mission arc. Lots of details in the mission. Explanation of the story is good and motivating. Dropped to 4 stars because not a satisfying conclusion.
Level: 1-54, ID#: 94504, Name: Daytime Divas
Humorous and pretty silly. Fun and funny plot and characters. Custom villains but not hard. Some missions are a lot of fun, others are basic.
Level: 1-54, ID#: 169260, Name: Eagor to Please
Villainous. Humorous single mission arc. Story has you as the master villain. Fun characters. Custom villains but not hard, plus longbow.
Level: 1-54, ID#: 177370, Name: Relativity Be Damned
Good story. Contact is decent - personality but wall of text. Nice objectives in missions add to the story. Main problem is that it is all Arachnos you fight so it gets repetitive.
Level: 20+ (1-54), ID#: 516337, Name: Modern Art Redemption
Amusing contact and story. All custom characters. Might be more different than good, but it is fun. Officially 1-54 but has minions that mezz.
Level: 1-34, ID#: 510265, Name: Special Delivery
Villainous. The contact is named Samuel and your first mission is getting snakes off of a ship. If that sounds good, you will like this arc. Good variety in maps. Missions are either short and to the point, or larger maps but you can just do your objectives. Story is fun, mostly because of the contact.
Level: 30-40, ID#: 29205 Name: PENGUIN
Good story, well told. Feel good story.
Level: 30-40, ID#:302196, Name: PENGUIN Part 2: Waddle's Revenge
Continues the story. Well told. Nice details
Level: 30-40, ID#: 402239, Name: PENGUIN Part 3: Waddle to the Big Top
Has Waddle but does not continue the story really. Repetitive enemies. This one is only 3 stars but if you've grown attached to Waddle it is fun.
Level: 35-54, ID#: 452144 Name: Murders in the RWZ Morgue
A one mission mystery arc. Lots of time looking for clues, little time fighting. If you like that sort of thing this is 4 stars, if you don't, avoid this arc.
Level: 25-34, ID#: 540585, Name: Robolution *
Villainous, but only because you work with Arachnos. The plot is pretty heroic. Contact is okay, story is good, the details in the missions are great. Regular enemy groups mostly with customs added for the plot that I could hardly tell from the regulars. And a very nice custom enemy group. Great maps. Their are EB's and AV's to fight with some allies added so you can solo them but it may not be easy.
3 Star Arcs --------------
Level: 20+ (1-54), ID#: 134741, Name: They HATE those boxes
Silly. One short mission. An amusing trifle for something different. Officially 1-54 but hard enemies, including minions that mezz and lt's that mezz and are mezz resistant.
Level: 20+ (1-54), ID#: 233720, Name: A Close Encounter
Better than a normal 3 star but while it had a decent story and some nice detail it just did not add up satisfactorily. Officially 1-54 but hard enemies, including minions that mezz and heal.
Level: 20-54, ID#: 1573, Name: Jabberwocky
One mission, with enough variety to make it amusing/interesting. Not much of a story. Custom characters are creative. (What did you expect a Snark to look like?) Four stars if you are a big fan of Jabberwocky.
Level: 4-54, ID#: 21391, Name: Enter the Father Hat Gang
An amusing, short one mission arc with funny characters and dialog. Not much of a plot and it just kind of ends. Apparently a parody of Azumanga Daioh (an anime show).
Level: 1-54, ID#: 440149, Name: The Trouble With Transformations
Villainous. Interesting story. Good variety of enemies and maps. The missions have some details but not a lot. Very few clues given.
Level: 1-54, ID#: 42083, Name: Arab Spring Democracy
One mission. Not much of a story but enough. Little in mission details. But it is short and the custom enemies are interesting.
Level: 30-54, ID#: 84420, Name: Death to Disco
Silly, two mission arc. First mission is fairly generic, second mission has a bunch of fun customs.
Level: 30-54, ID#: 99836, Name: Attack of the Cliches
Lots of detail. Fun custom enemies. Would be 4 stars if it had more of a story.
Level: 35-54, ID#: 386861, Name: The Ghastly Secret of Dreams
This rating is personal preference. Arc has a story, interesting contact, not much detail in missions. It is silly and confusing, deliberately so - the arc is a series of dreams. Rating would be higher if you like that sort of thing. -
Quote:which is why he did not use "plot" and "story", he used "plot" and "storytelling"Please, don't use those terms
There's a reason: They mean different things. In narratology "plot" and "story" are two ways of looking at narrative sequence. (basically the plot is the narrative as it moves chronologically through the work in question, while the story is the narrative as it moves chronologically "in-universe")
storytelling != story -

Leo you are arguing with Butane about tankers, this is the definition of pointless
He has no rational position
He is immune to reason
Save yourself Leo. -

There are 12 AT's based on forums (counting Khelds as 1, SOA's as 1)
There is not a lot of reason to want any of the AT's on a team. But tankers add more to a team (at least below 50) than several other AT's. And less than several other AT's.
