I agree that a lot of people can't take criticism and a lot of the paste eaters wouldn't last too long in other MMO's.

I am fortunate that I have a regular group of people to team with, and I got into the game through rl friends that schooled me. I can however see why the OP would be frustrated. For example we ran a STF and the empath didn't have clear mind. Buzz, foul, wrong! I would get irritated if someone that was a veat had forgone those signature powers and rest assured my Huntsman would have those and then some.
I can someone not knowing how to play a toon, but that is when you do some research or ask someone. I am a big proponent of accessing the guides on the forums. I don't follow them verbatim but I do get a lot of useful information from them.
I don't pug for this very reason as most pugs are paste eaters. -
My Huntsman Arbiter Raich has already gone hero, though hes had met quite a few longbow agents that have met the barrel of his gun or have been smacked upside the head with his arbiter mace in times past. Most of them were not jumping for joy when he redeemed himself. Our friendly neighborhood arbiter thinks Paragon city is ok as far as cities go but can't get over the lack of litter, gambling establishments and porno shops. Not that he condones any of these activities. The good (good being a relative term,) thinks of Paragon is like the Rogue Isles if they went Disney. More to come.

All the above downsides are correct, and I would endurance can be a problem, but that can mitigated with slotting and io sets. Khelds are a pita. They're still broken. I loath the idea that you have to be in tank or blaster form to be effective and in human form team with the perfect set of AT's. I would say make the squid form your ranged dps form, and give them more abilities, make the lobster a tank form and the human form either a blapper type of form or a scrapper form with couple of ranged attacks and many hth attacks with mez and kb protection. Do the branching thing.

I don't know about all that. My crab is squishy compared to my huntsman in the terms of survivability. Maybe its the way I built him.
-
Aisynia has the definitive huntsman guide. There are several ways to build a huntsman. Some ppl go with cloaking device others don't, however most builds will include powers from the leadership pool, no crab backpack, and the mace is only used for build up. On another note why does everyone always bring up bile spray?
We all know its a good attack and does massive damage. However it doesn't fit into the huntsman theme unless of course your Huntsman used to be bulimic. I can see doing a cheese build like that if you were pvp'ing and you had to min/max it to survive. Bile spray doesn't go with the theme of playing a huntsman. My huntsman is a killing machine and one of these days I'll take the time and post my build. -
We need more Flambeaux or as I like to call her Flamebox. Give her a decent backround and maybe make her an av or eb at least. I have so much fun stymieing her plans and aggressive self promotion. I just love punching her face in or shooting her full of lead.

Quote:Why is the huntsman build subpar?I made a SoA with the sole intention of branching, instead of playing a build that is in my opinion, sub-par to the branched roles. Quite frankly, if I ever found enjoyment out of it, I wouldn't be like some people and make a whole new character, because I don't want to play an AT more than once with the same powers.
-
Quote:I built my Huntsman for that purpose as well and when they surpass crabs when you factor that in, surveillance, build up, venom grenade, and set bonuses.I built my Huntsman for support, all TTs and Leadership powers. Never heard my character put down by a crab, I mostly get "thanks for the tohit and extra 30% damage".
As long as you're having fun, its your 15 bucks.
I agree its your dime and as long as your having fun. -
Quote:Exactly!!! Not to mention they have more firepower than a MM and don't have to take 20 minutes to augment and buff their pets. Make recharge reduction a part of your spec and whala!!! Pocket Mastermind.Huntsmen have 3 less potential pets.
A Crab can get 6 pets: 1 Patron pet, 2 Disruptors (Summon Reinforcements) and 3 Spiderlings (Summon Spiderlings).
A Huntsman can only get 3 pets: 1 Patron and 2 Disruptors.
Since Crabs can get as many pets as a Mastermind has minions, that's why they're called "pocket masterminds." -
I know, I know it sounds like the title of a self help book.
I have just come back from a long break from playing the game like a lot of people have and a lot has changed, however one thing hasn't changed is the people that play SOA crabs have this proclivity to put down Huntsman. At least that is my perception when I read some of these posts. Granted some just contrast Crabs and Huntsman, but a lot of crab fans put them down, and I have read heated arguments from both sides over the issue.
Personally I play both and I like my Huntsman. He's a boot in the rear, shoot first, ask questions second, lead spraying badass of the badasses. His motto is "Gun control means hitting your target."
The crab is ok. I look at the crab as a pocket MM with good aoe attacks. Both pet powers (spiderlings and disrupters,) are essential IMHO. They do ok, and don't need a whole lot of tweaking.
Those comparisons aside I want to hear from people that have a hatred of Huntsman and why they are so fanatical about it. There have been some knock down drag out fights over this topic through the years in the forums. Please keep the vitriol on both sides to a minimum. I just want to get into the psyche of some of the people that hate or put down Huntsman as a matter of course. -
I am not arguing. I like my huntsman AOE better than my crabs. Granted the crab has more, however my Huntsman's recharge is so good I don't have to worry about having a lot of AOE powers because the ones I got are always ready to roll.
A crab is great if you want to play a toon that ready to go right out of the box. A crab likes a dell or HP-everything is ready to go and you don't have to do much to it.
Playing a Huntsman is like building your own pc. You get parts from different companies and you need to have a little know how to get it running and maximize its potential. Each person that a huntsman seems to have their own style. At least from what I read in the forum. Some have cloaking device, and placate or use the melee attacks.
The AOE capabilities are pretty even when you factor everything in. It depends on how much work you want to put into it. -
Quote:Um my Huntsman is hardly gimped, and Ill post his build. They're both AOE machines. That is where the similarities end. I have surveillance, build up, and double stacked leadership. I provide very good support to a team and the sets I have make my Huntsman one bad ****. I don't feel gimped at all and I didn't want to run a generic toon like a crab. I also respected omega maneuver out of my spec because its just lame imho I wanted to go in a different direction and I haven't been sorry about it. I really don't want to get into a pissing contest or see which of us have a bigger gun. In fact I put a disclaimer on the top of my post that eluded to that.I have to disagree with you dmcfarland. Crabs should be played for damage. Maybe part of your problem is web grenade? The benefits that its immobilize grants is not worth sacrificing the damage. Go Leviathan, get school of sharks and bile spray.
Crabs get your "Heckle" and "Jeckle" pets as well. What exactly is the everything you're figuring in? From your post it just seems like you are sacrificing worthwhile abilities for less effective ones. Crabs are great out of the box, sure, but I spent a lot of time tweaking my build and enhancement setup. I think it paid off in spades. I don't think they are as straightforward as you think they are.
Can you post your current build? I will post an approximate (powers and enh match my char, but not necessarily the order I took them) copy of my character. Could you post yours as well?
I got the bane stuff because it fits better with the theme. I am not into min maxing bs. I would rather have fun with my toon than being the biggest man on the block. -
No just roll it back to where it was at before they f'ed everything up. It was balanced. My tank was a tank, not a tin man, blasters could blast, fenders could heal, trollers could control, scrappers could scrap, corrs could corrupt, stalkers could stalk, domi's could dominate, MM's could control minions etc.
PVP now means a tank can get two shotted, blasters are invulnerable and anyone with a defense cannot be touched. Thats why pvp sucks in this game. Not to mention they're are not any incentives to PVP. -
(I am not bashing people that play crabs. I just stating my love for my huntsman over my crab.)
I have both a huntsman and crab. The crab has the crab arms of course, which some people find ugly and they stay with you even if you dual spec. The crab is your out of the box, Kmart ready to roll aoe machine and will do fine in a team situation with common IO's. I am building my crab to be a pocket mastermind with great recharge. I am using the bane patron pool so I can get one more single target attack, the web grenade and the extra pet. Its an ok route.
My huntsman on the other hand has been a labor of love. Too quote Aisynia the matron saint of huntsman
"They go in guns blazing, they control the situation, deal with it in the most brutal, efficient possible fashion, and leave. Nothing but a few smoldering corpses and charred floor tiles should be left when they and their contingent are done. They are the fire from the hip, grenade lobbing, lead spraying badasses that come in to put down a situation someone else couldn't handle."
My hunstman just turned 50 and I am praying to the living Christ they give us another 9 levels so I can level him again. Leveling him up has been a face melting, asskicking, collateral damage causing, property destroying son of a gun. Their still trying to fix the fire damage and clean the blood of of several buildings in the Rogue Isles.
I almost have his pets "Heckle" and "Jeckle" on perma summon. Double stacked leadership provides a huge bonus for a team. End has been a problem but a lot of the sets I have on him give recovery bonuses. I still need a couple of sets then I'll be good to go. My Huntsman is just sick. Huntsman IMHO outdo crabs once you figure everything in.
There nothing better than playing a toon that's 5'5 and carries a big gun, and knows how to use it with great effect.
Playing a crab is pretty straightforward and doesn't require much fine tuning and they look their straining to use the restroom when they use suppression.
I look at my huntsman as a cross between Wyatt Earp, the terminator and Dirty Harry. No fancy energy weapons, no psychic abilities, exotic poisons, light sabers, or minions of hell. Just a man at the peak of physical perfection and skill at using a state of the art shotgun w/grenade launcher and cutting edge ordinance with the help of a couple of robots, and a computer that analyzes their opponents powers and skills.
The Huntsman motto "Gun control means hitting your target!" -
Quote:You can't compare them. A blaster is raw damage and destruction. A huntsman is a MM with juice. They also provide a boat load of buffs with stacked leadership powers. The Huntsman brings more to the table than a blaster once you factor in pets, buffs, debuffs, and damage. Hands down a huntsman is a better choice and they have more survivability. They are the jack of all trades and Master of most of them. I just got mine to fifty and its been a face melting, shrapnel throwing, mayhem causing helluva of a good time. Please give us ten more lvl's so I can lvl my huntsman up again!!!Out of curiosity, has anyone compared the damage of a huntsman build @ 50 to a comparable blaster build @ 50?
I've always liked the mez protec and pets on my huntsman build. Just not sure how he compares side-by-side for dmg against blaster builds. My guess is less than my Fire/MM but more than, say, AR/DP/other? -
I almost feel sorry for her as I'm pounding her face into the ground. She has "daddy" issues for sure. The poor girl is just sad.

It was happening every other second. I am not used to the servers being busy. I am back from a long break from the game. Overall Ncsoft has done a lot to make the game appealing again. I just they have more pretorian content and increase the level cap.
-
I have been getting map server errors a lot this morning. Anyone else having the same problem.
[EDIT] I managed to fight through the mapserver errors and get to Grandville. I didn't get any mapserver errors in Grandville so I am assuming shark head island is the problem area. -

I played my latest 50 Peacebringer as a primarily human (dual build - other build was triform) around that time, from... pretty sure high-20s to low-30s all the way through 50.
It was certainly *different.*Still far less annoying than dealing with the VEATs to me, IMHO.

I love VEATS. -
I would get pulsar because that is a good PBAOE stun. I have a pb built like that. I have didnt go tough and weave because its an end killer. You will want to get Io sets that grant kb resist, end recovery, and recharge as well as mez resist or reduction.
-
Hopefully that epic at will require one 50 lvl hero and one 50 lvl vil which I have both.

SoA's hands down. I have a lvl 46 huntsman and its been a non stop excursion in asskickery. Solo a kheld if you want a challenge or a nasty headache. I also have a lvl 32 lvl Fort and shes fun to solo. Sorry to be down on khelds but they need work if they want to compete with SoA. Granted improvements have been made and I happy they were made.
