I haven't played with the steampunk pack as much, and the female options there were about what I was looking for, but this was very annoying.

Ultimately, with this costume pack and given the historical context of the period, we are being told that women don't get to ride horses (which you could not do in that costume) or wear pants. Men can ride and shoot just fine, but in order to wield guns women have to be... prostitutes.

Now to be clear, I absolutely love the dance-hall-floozy costume. My first comment on seeing the picture was a delighted "I can be a floozy!", and I have at least a couple characters who will probably use pieces of it (although I'd like the veil without that huge bow, personally). But it's not the reason I threw down the points for the set. And it's absurd that, in a game where I have characters who SWITCH GENDERS, and they allow for that to the extent of having gendered badge titles actually change (Ferryman/Ferrywoman of the Damned, for instance, depending on which body is being worn at the moment), those two bodies can't have the same completely reasonable outfit.

If options were to open up--I'd say personally that everything except the bare chest options ought to be open for any body type--we'd see a temporary flood of huge men in tiny bikinis with bustiers as people started to play with it for kicks, and then most of the players would get bored with making the outrageous for no reason other than that it was outrageous, and things would settle down to near-status-quo pretty quickly, but with a LOT more options for people who had a specific concept.

For men, that concept can include other cultures and time periods where dress was not like it is today, or silver-age options, or merely embarrassing body-type issues (uh-oh, I turn into a giant man when I get upset and now I'm fighting crime in the shreds of an evening dress because I didn't have time to change!) (not even going into the continued lack of a huge female body type, as that would require significant extra coding time). For women, that includes a lot more options that DO NOT require you to display lots of flesh or skin-tight clothing. I know it's a long-standing tradition in comics, but some of us would like to make more realistic heroes. If I make a tough-as-nails ex-punk with an Axe, she's not likely to start dolling up in a bustier, but she is likely to have a lot of tattoos. Except that wait, I can't.

This game has more costume options than pretty much any other game ever, and I really really appreciate that your powers are not tied to your outfit (coff WoW coff). I love the costume and character creators, and have made far more toons than I can ever play just so that I can play with the options. But it's absurd that in new costume packs women are not allowed to wear pants!

As for MMs not having female lackeys... I don't generally play MMs (they're a little too much for me to keep track of at once) so I can't say I'd leap on the option to have an all-female destruction machine. But I would darn well love to play alongside one, because, and this is important, it would be AWESOME.

Sorry, that got a lot more rant-y than I meant for it to. I just ...kind of want my points back, frankly. I'll use some of the other costume pieces, sure, but the reason I bought the gunslinger pack in the first place is pretty much invalid as long as any character with a female body type can't wear the chaps. <sigh>

    Have a good day, y'all.
    truth.

please let me clarify that years back the answer was that the dev team was afraid that perverted males would use binds or marcos to have female minions bowing at their feet and this would be very sexist. Then the same group churns out one costume set after another that denies females some very cool things the males have while giving us one scanty option after another."

*points to thread link in her sig*
I have brought it up at the last two events I've been to, and the same answers keep getting given....so perhaps if we get enough people behind the idea, something might get done (and they see this isn't a 1 off)
we need to have more people see and post in this thread. i've gotten these reasons time and again also, along with "it's a minority of players that this would satisfy and we have to think about the greater good", and about scantily clad lady-parts: "this is what is expected from us from the players". right, the players who you dont want to give female masterminds so as not to objectify them... you give them female objectifying clothing.

not to say that the work wasn't hard and well intentioned, or that the pieces are ugly, or unappreciated, because that's not true. the pieces are great, aside from being very unbalanced and unnecessarily scanty, and i'll even use a couple parts like everyone else because, well, it's new... and i already got it :/... but that set was so not anywhere near to being on the list [much less the top of said list] of things i want ["barmaid"? really? seems like she belongs in a brothel. that is, if you're going to time period, which i assume you are.] for my characters. but some critical thinking about why what is made and who it's made for could help everyone.

buttcapes [FOR ALL] yes. gun slinging western lady yes. dress that barely covers my parts no.

even one of the female samples in the image for the set, in order to present a decent-for gunslinging-female, is wearing hardly any of the set. why? *points to the critical thinking cap that has been left behind*

^ agree about agreeing for the reasons to agree.

there have been plenty of male superheroes in comics with thigh high boots. it fits for some costumes and themes. heck even some of the shorter skirt [leather, side split] options could fit for barbarian/ roman/ antiquity/ native themes. heck even one bikini option would be nice instead of the same dang box of a "bare" option for males. and more lower body skin options please? what's the hang up, really? also, how about the tennis shoes without socks option? TWO witch hat options that we cant have, long hair, bracers, crown/ringlet/tiaras, etc.

and for female body types, a lot has been mentioned that i second. tattoos, jackets, a couple hair options, etc - though they already really do have more options.

also, yes to everything above. it really bothers me that females get yet another short "skirt" and corset [this time with ugly stripes on the best piece of the set that wont go away no matter what] and males get ...more jackets and shoes you can only wear with pants.
  3. for staff melee i'd really like to see a staff with a small trident at the end, a pitchfork/garden tool, and a tree branch with some leaves on it.
  4. do the male boots only work with pants? because that's lame.

esp since female boots work with everything?
  5. i dont consider my logic flawed. [did you mean my logic? or their reasons for keeping those items from us?]

they simply prefer not to put in-game costume pieces or ideas that represent specific cultures or groups of people because some players can use them in ways that are offensive. hence: no female pets [nameable at least, though we get coralax, widows and now the lore pets] and no to an "angel/celestial" MM set because it ties too closely with major religions [although i do not at all see how demons does not since generally the two are linked]

i think that reason, while valid, still doesnt hold up because people still make pimps, are vulgar, offensive, and dont care about other groups of people or cultures. but that is a very small part of the player base, and most players ignore or report it. that's what blocking and the profanity filter is for.

so... we should be granted those much wanted pieces. but to assuage their fears, i suggest they call the pieces that might fit as native american "indigenous" and be sure to give them a variety and not reflect anything to specific [which they do a great job of anyway.]

im sure that we will get something like this sooner or later especially since they sure do love giving us stripper outfits for crime fighting females anyway and the guys only get more jackets with the reasoning "it's expected by the player base and we give them 'what they want'".

[but i do think they are doing great i just want less stripper stuff and more of what's missing theme-wise]

i repeat: good work devs. and i believe we'll get the items we want sooner or later

also, i agree, pilgrim hats are kinda... <_<
  6. yes to all of this YESSS and more, and all of it available to both genders and huge please!

but they have said no ESPECIALLY to things with more than one cape because of system requirements and stuffs. this includes the sybils and mirror spirit's outfit which each have four to six capes. but still lol maybe ONE DAY in the distant future we will be treated to all our hopes and dreams with EVERY costume piece unlocked for EVERYONE.

also, mirror spirit clips horrible when she moves. and im someone who does not mind clipping if it means i can get the pieces i want... but her lovely dres REALLY clips bad. there's a video of it on youtube and she can be found in scirocco's patron arc. you should see yourself

buuuttt they try to avoid anything too particular because people can be offensive. but then, they still make some things that are wicked pointed anyway so idk lol.

but indigenous is a safe way to make some costume pieces that could be interpreted as native american and could also not be. i mean, the banished pantheon dont seem tooo particular anything [even though they do lol] but i would really like some of what they have.

truth. i mean it makes sense but still... the reason given for the female versions of recent packs was that "it's what's expected" basically, nevermind that conan the barbarian is the one wearing the leather codpiece and my lady-barian wants to live on a mountain-top but has no mountain-top clothes. and to be honest, just because the thug pets are male doesnt stop plenty of players from making pimps anyway.

so again, i say give us badges that unlock alt models to customize individual pets [i.e. zombie 1: - banished pantheon, zombie 2: vhazilok, zombie 3: default] from in game villain groups. CoT demons, clockwork bots, tsoo ninjas, banished zombies, knives of artemis mercs, destroyer thugs, and so on. again, so many to choose from that are safe yet allow for customization, and probably less info than complete customization which is obvi has a lot more requirements. and the idea of locking a name to a pet also would be nice.

    Heya Jagged,

When you called customer support, did they apply the EU code to the same American account and upgrade the one that you've been playing [which is what it sounds like but i just want to confirm again]? OR did they tell you to make an entirely new CoH account under your NC master account?

cuz that's what they just told me lol. They verified that my code was good and EU, but he said that the only way he saw to use it was to either create a new CoH account, or upgrade a Eu Trial account. Which makes sense but it sounded like you or the support member who helped you found a way around that.

is there any more information you could give me of your experience, who you talked to, or what exactly they did, or a reference number, or something? it would be greatly appreciated because the guy i spoke to said all he could do was walk me through making a new account.

    thanks

Would be the easy way and i think most would like it they could add more latter on.
i wonder if it will be possible to have BADGES to UNLOCK the potential other ALT MODELS that can then be customized for what type you want to summon. there are plenty of different demons/thugs/zombies/mercs/bots/ninja-esque villain groups in the game and it could make sense that after enough power, influence, control and defeats you would be able to summon them for good or evil. this might even be more rewarding or easier[?] for customization than simple color changes. and have these alt models have the group's skins but the traditional powers of the MM powerset. To name a few potentials [im sure im forgetting a bunch]:

other demons: CoT [cold ones even!], rularuu? succubus

    other thugs: hellions, trolls, destroyers

other zombies: banished, CoT ghosts, vhaz, plenty from hallo events, gouls

other bots: :O so many! clockwork, other clockwork, council bots, crey bots

    other mercs: resistance, wyvern, knives

    other ninjas: tsoo

along these lines it would also be cool to customize the Control Pets a little more, particularly the plant. Make devouring earth unlock Razorvine and Deathcap pet alt-skins. i wouldnt mind the customization mentioned being limited to VIPs.

    new auras

i was trying to make an awesome conceivable whispy/windy hair option with the various hairstyles and an aura to match but nothing worked for either gender/bodytype.

and then i found myself wishing i could have a combination of tendrils, smoky, and cryogenic.

then i thought... why not a Hair Aura, or Head-Tentacles, or Vines as an aura with hair, arm, leg, body, center-of-chest, and combat options.

in my head i saw to make it come from the center of the head, outward, *avoiding the face* and have the regular: enlarge-fade-rotate the current aura image fx have ...but only have it start out as opaque, and get bigger and a little furthur to the sides and back, down a little even.

this could make a great whispy/windy/medusoid hair effect. good for all bodies and themes as hair, wires, roots, vines, tentacles.

and an aura would be a great way to achieve this without putting capes on the head/hair options like Ghost Widow.

    eh?
  12. maybe not suggestions but i would consider my post enough of an idea to be reasonably posted here... and i was hoping others would post their ideas too about sets they thought would be reasonable new power sets for Dominators in the not-too-distant future.

im not blaming you for anything Lemur Lad
  13. also, you're talking about mechanics, i'm talking about themes. why would i want to play a set like that? because i want to play a set like that.

players pick sets for different reasons. i'm not saying pick one reason and ignore the rest. but rather i'm talking specifically more about themes. and you, im guessing, how the sets play out.

i can explain an animal set, but that's not what i made this thread for. i am more inclined to explain an animal control powerset in the Powerset Suggestion thread.
  14. i didnt realize the tone i was using was condescending, because that's not at all what i intended when i wrote it.

i greatly appreciate the hard work and creativity of the devs, especially tunnel rat [she's my favorite evar]. ok maybe 'cop out' isnt the right word, and 'pretty easy' also wasnt the best choice of words. forgive my limited vocabulary, for the post was written in an excited fury. but they have, several times, said something cant/wont happen then happily surprised us, and i appreciate it and believe that a water set is in the works, if even on a back burner with this community tactic being used when we ask about it. im not telling them to do anything, i cant make demands, nor do they have any reason to heed any particular requests. this post was My Speculation.

again, it should be obvious that i am the average player, and this post was meant for me to be excited about potential sets in the future for Doms, an AT to which you are not the only fan.

also, i didnt say "NO NEW FRESH IDEAS!" i'd also like to believe that water control and animal control... are new.

  15. although, thank you for confirming Dark Control was on it's way.
  16. lol RAWR! negative nancy rears her head.

perhaps i misspoke a little. im not saying to use all the already based liquid graphics exactly and squeeze out a half-***** set. i'm saying that there have been several steps toward a potential water set, it cant be that far off. and by 'cop out' i meant that they could quite possibly be working on it but refuse to acknowledge it til it's ready because it's easier to say 'surprise! here's a four legged rig or staff fighting or power customization that we said we couldn't do but actually did, but only it took longer cuz it was hard but we were working on it all along.' so it's easier to say 'we cant do it *snicker*'. and if you think what is in game already is full of "bad enough" and "ugh" then dont pick the set. that's why i dont play poison. but props to those who do.

you dont like animals? dont pick them. that's why i dont play demons. but there are plenty of options for making it interesting and varied. probably a lot more interesting than lots of in game sets already as far as mechanics because you're potentially adding the element of "animals."

obviously cobbled sets cant just happen. altering as far as fluidity, numbers, effects, and some graphics would have to be taken. but in the sense that Blasters now have Dark Blast and Dark Manipulation [a cobbled set], a Gadget set wouldnt be too difficult to make. redraw schmedraw. pick thorns and customize them and you redraw for every power. redraw and clipping that are two excuses that i dont believe have much merit. if you dont like it, dont choose that powerset. if you dont mind it, like plenty of players i know, then you can enjoy the set for thematic purposes.

yes it's clear you want sets designed from scratch. but it's also clear you don't value much other people's ideas enough to warrant them even the slightest merit. all your proposed mechanics could be placed into all sorts of sets, including but not limited to my proposed themed sets. i dont believe everything has to be completely new and shiny to fill voids in the players potential builds.

dont tell me what i can and cant' say. or rather, i guess you can say whatever you want lol but that doesnt make you an uber authority either. obviously im not a game designer or graphics/fx guru, it should be understood. the forums are for voicing your opinions and ideas, flawed, inexperienced, hopeful or not.
  17. I feel like some of these could be potential surprises coming for Doms in the mildly-distant future in the supprise plans for Doms. With the understanding that Dominators: Control [some shared with trollers] + Assault [quasi but not really shared with blaster support] i propose that some sets that could reasonably appear are:

*Water Control - they've said no b/c of graphics requirements [cop out answer i think] but have recently added: bubble aura that is quite watery, the hydra powers from sewer trial also quite watery, and there are the several water based leviathan mastery powers. mix with a bit of the kinetic meelee/ dark aura graphics and i'd say you can make a water set pretty easily. Tunnel Rat i'm looking at you!

*Animal Control [as opposed to Beastly Warriors potential for MM's] - the feel of this would be pretty great. holds with swarms of small animals, stuns with charging stampedes, pets from the new four-legged rigs. customization would alter the skins of the attacks from dark, woodland, desert, swamp, fantasy, mecha, elemental.

*Gadget Control - compiled from the numerous in-game gadgetry powers to create a new set. might be a lower dmg control set if they use web grenades lol.

*Weapon/Armory Assault [with potential for customizable weapons, also altered to fit blaster secondary] i already proposed this set in Lady Jade's suggestion thread a page or two back. really really easy to make following the outline i proposed. broadsword/mace/bow/dagger set. archaic feel.

*Artillery Assault [based off above guideline from other post but includes DP or Assault Rifle mixed with other gadgets and devices, shruiken] contemporary feel.

*Dark Control and Dark Assault [obviously] cant be that far away.

eh? do you all have any speculations on the coming Dom Goodies?
  18. it comes out to $6.25 not including tax.

if only it did have a couple emotes. or even the ability to name it like MM pets. then it would have to be targetable, of course, but so is the mini-vas and it's otherwise untouchable so i dont see why we cant have the tiny extra step of naming it. or something extra. ANYthing extra, and it might be a little more worth it.

also, it's a german shepard. a wolf might also be worth the price but the dog is so specific. wolves can be a little easier to match to theme, which vanity pets are usually attributed.

and as far as them covering their costs of the new rig, i assumed that came from the lulls in things being produced in which i was still paying my subscription. and they dont lose money when you sub for longer periods, rather they have financial security and it averages out to the players that stop subbing for a couple days or weeks or months at a time when their sub ends or between sub periods.

anyway, im just sayin, IMO it's over priced even just a little. but everyone is entitled to their opinion

    The future sets

^ Shape shifting! I could totally see it as a Power Pool

Bantam - toggle shape shift Shrink tinytiny [stealth and defense] to about the size of the combat-fairy-pet
Gargantuan - toggle shape shift Grow BIIIIGGG [dmg and resistance] to about the size of the abomination or halloween monster. might be limited to outdoor use but im ok with that.
    Increase Density - self-click Buff for 1m
Belittle - enemy shrink debuff slow and -def

god yes, and like Remaugen said, snakes [definitely since they are in game] and centaurs [hmm but a LOT less likely] too. and Twigman mentioned gost-smoke bottoms. YES!

but the devs said "NO to non-two-leg player characters because then we'd have to make new animations for all of the actions, emotes, powers, etc." but i dont really think so, i dont see why, depending on power choice you can't just "black out" the leg option that is non-two legs [like for martial arts or StJustice]. i mean the ghosts right now have legs that are just invisible, right? just do the motion and have the legs not do anything, or function as the animation would normally but stay invisible and the new non-two-leg bottom continue it's regular animation on top. clipping? who cares really? not most players.

anyway, all of these totally need to happen, and yes, one wheel-foot like Gizmo Duck with tire track path aura. heck even two wheel feet under monstrous -tech would be great. also, mermaid tail might be a re-skin of the snake tail which could happen, and super-swim wouldn't be a travel power unless they make a couple underwater zones. you never really need to be in the water otherwise. ALTHOUGH they could make a "fly-swim" motion as a fly emote similar to the squiddie's undulating fly.

but i feel like they wont do these things for us anytime soon since not too long ago Posi told me on one of those coffee talk things "No to non-two-leg bottoms, not even snakes. not even for an Epic AT".

im all for hero patron pools, and i like the one's suggested with numina, woodsman, etc. as reasonable counterparts. but this ^ lol i wouldnt exactly say "for free" since, in order to gain access to these pools, anybody has to make the effort with their character. it is not free. 1: get to the appropriate level to unlock the arc. but everybody has to do this so it is a null point 2: be a villain [which includes a lot less content and teaming potential]. i'd say that being redside is already a slight sacrifice with lots of opportunities in the game and the patron pools are part of the reward to balance it out.

it is not impossible for a Hero to get a Villain Patron pool, but it is a long arduous task. what is a week of missions really? if you want to permanently unlock the specific pools that are thematically villainous and tide heavily to in game lore.

blah whatever, i'm just saying that it DOES make sense to me and it IS reasonable. waaah my hero is good why does he have to be bad just to unlock extra pools? BECAUSE they are VILLAIN pools rewarded by making pledges to the patrons. thematic. reasons. still, some hero patron pools would be nice and make lots of sense because of those same reasons and you have my vote. .

but i do think it is balanced as is. being a villain is not as easy as being a hero. the patron pools are part of the rewards and effort to balance that out and they are worth taking your hero all the way through the alignment system.

    eep. /end rant.
  23. well my bads then, yo. so i should then direct my disdain to corporate?
  24. nope, Amazon wont let me purchase it from overseas because of shipping. O_o

equals: i cant reasonably get it.

equals: super lame that the particular devs have such qualms about not keeping those who got it so long ago favored above the rest of the player base.
  25. how do i buy something in UK moneys with my american moneys? O_o

also, i think their reasons are ridiculous for keeping the in-game perks like badge, costume pieces, slide power, from players even if each could be an individual purchase of actual money...

to me their withholding it is lame and elitist and unfair to other players who honestly couldn't obtain or use a dvd copy at the time, seven years ago, but have been playing for just as long or almost as long.

to leave it as forever unavailable and say "you can buy it online still" [at outrageous prices or across the ocean] is a cop-out excuse to justify the decision. saying that those certain devs would have to stop working for the company... really disappoints me.

it's like saying "we wont give you buttcapes because they clip." everything clips. just do it. uuuuuuugghhhhhhh.
