    Null and void.

If you avoided every set that was ever overly popular at one time or another you'd start to run out of things to roll. I've rolled a few fotms in my time, though quite often their fotm date had long since expired and instead they were a bit icky and had started to smell a bit. I've also played and dumped current fotm builds as I just found them uninteresting to play, and that included the fabled fire/kin.

I can't say any external influence has ever put me off a particular powerset, though I've put myself off a few after trying them for a bit. Roll what you find interesting regardless of whether or not it has become popular with a section of the playerbase, what you chose to roll and what you chose to do with it is no ones business but your own.

Also if they say sets aren't allowed the system of self policing done in the last S4 can't possibly exist. If a team hammers another team 50-3 (which was quite common in the last S4) someone is bound claim the other team was using sets/purples. Every match would need a GM adjudicator, which would be impractical.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I do talk [censored] at times. Of course you could just look at the opposing teams player info to see if they're running sets. I'm not sure what's worse, that I didn't think of this when I wrote the post or that it popped into my head when I was sitting having my breakfast.

I think IOs should be banned

why should people have an unfair advantage because they spend all day and night farming for their "mad purpz"? I actually want to play the game, thank you very much.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because in the same manner, inspirations,TK,cage, assasin strike, aim,bu and rads all together should be banned too.

IO's are part of the game evolution and part of daily PvP.

Besides lol if you lock out IO's/sets/Purps, dont expect to see PvP players joining cause there aint many PvPers without em

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. I would think that someone coming into this with a vanilla IO or SO build wouldn't stand a snowballs chance in hell against a fully set based or purple IO'd build. If you allow them it's pretty much eliminating 'casual' players from taking part. If you don't allow them you're likely eliminating a lot of pvpers.

Also if they say sets aren't allowed the system of self policing done in the last S4 can't possibly exist. If a team hammers another team 50-3 (which was quite common in the last S4) someone is bound claim the other team was using sets/purples. Every match would need a GM adjudicator, which would be impractical.

A possible way round it would be to have a 2 tier tournament, one division for the dedicated pvpers (anything goes), another division for the casuals (no sets). Not an ideal solution but like the first S4 it would open the event up to the highest number of participants.

I think it would need to incorporate villains and heroes, but I'm unsure about 10 player teams. It was hard enough arranging match times to suit 2 teams of 5 players never mind 20 players. A 2/2+1 maybe were 2 of your team had to be heroes and 2 villains + one other of either side. Checks and balances would be needed so you don't end up with 20 identicle teams so for example if you had a controller you couldn't have a dominator and if you had a brute you couldn't have a scrapper (all hypothetical).

Epic ATs were disallowed last time, I'm certainly not going to say they should or shouldn't be allowed (I'm not that brave ).
  4. Before I begin I feel the need to defend myself by stating I personally couldn't care how many issues a year appear, I can't remember when we got i12 or i11, or any other issue.

Saying that I think it is important how many issues a year are released. At this stage of it's life CoH tend only to get mentioned by the press when a new issue is released. Imo if they have 'loads' of new content on offer it would make more sense to split the content into 'smaller' issues that are released more often rather than having 'huge' issues that get released less regularly. That way we'll see the game more than once in a blue moon getting a mention in your favourite rag.

It is never advisable to say we intend to release an issue every x months or we will have y issues every 12 months, that's just asking for trouble whether you said it or only hinted at it. Anything said becomes a cast iron guarantee no matter how hard you try to make it otherwise.

OK, this is sounding sort of how I expected the mission designer would work.

Couple that with GR's clue about "offline", and I think there's a good chance that it'll be pretty well full featured AND runs offline from the main game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm wondering about this. How will they get them from an offline status to an online one? Will the game continually need patching as new player missions are added or will they save them all up and patch after each maintenance window?
  6. RttC I always find fun, the momentary delay between the mobs attacking and the your regen kicking in can be pretty... interesting. If scrapper willpower had an inbuilt self heal it'd need a damn good n*r*i*g (I censored the nasty word for everyones benefit).
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Hmmm...this is a bit confusing. I don't know if they accept City of Heroes or City of Heroes/Villians.

    Anyone know either?

    [/ QUOTE ]

My guess is that if you put down anything other than "City of Heroes: Issue 12: Midnight Hour" they'll think you're wrong as I'm sure they haven't a clue.
  8. They're really trawling the depths looking for new players, first they want Mirror readers to play... now they've sunk as low as Sun readers!
  9. I've never filled, but I don't get excited the odd time someone asks. I have no mention of whether I will or won't farm/fill or any other minority past time that people partake in. I make a decision on each invite at the time based on what I'm doing/ how I'm feeling at that moment. I once got mildly perturbed when I was having difficulty getting a team on my defender and the only offer I got was to fill for someone.

Fill requests seem to have changed though. I used to get a fill request followed a second later by a team invite, I never get the invite now only the request, which I personally see as no better or worse than any other tell someone sends you out of the blue.

I hope you realise destroying the Hamidon destroys the Devouring Earth. I guess a few people here won't be going on any more Hami raids then.

I didn't think anyone went on Hami raids anyway!

    S4?!?!?

The world is coming to an end, I'm posting on the pvp boards!!!

I haven't seen that chart in a lifetime... or 3 years, whichever is sooner.

Some of the news articles from the time:
    S4 Week 1
    S4 Cossie Contest - Defiant
Cossie winners and details of prizes
An article about me and some other less important people!

Fun times indeed, which carried on a little longer than anticipated.

People play games until they get sick of them, then move on, thats that. Reward points/prizes dont win anyones loyalty.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So loyalty schemes used by companies all over the planet are the marketing people being silly and frivolously giving away stuff?

That's just ridiculous, a product is successful for various reasons, never just one. The quality might be good and it might be reasonably prised, it might be marketed well and have good return customer policies (loyalty schemes). If several aspects of the product are horrible then the product is most likely to fail.

    [/ QUOTE ]
The loyalty rewards used by most companies all over the planet have very different purposes to the CoX ones.

There, the companies are competing with others to sell people a particular commodity - Tesco want their loyalty bonuses to make you buy groceries from them rather than Sainsburys, Shell gives you toys to encourage you to fill up there rather than the BP station down the road, BA gives you air miles so you'll fly with them rather than RyanAir.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I never use loyalty cards, particularly from supermarkets, for one simple reason. Tesco and Sainsbury don't give loyalty bonuses to make you buy groceries from them and not their rivals. They give loyalty bonuses to encourage you to continually use your loyalty card so they can collect more and more data about your spending habits so they can target you more effectively. They probably know more about your day to day routine than you do.

I'm sorry, but why all the grumbling? Its Free Stuff!

I'm sitting on 27 months now, and enjoy the fact that I have a few extra options when creating a new character.

    Free stuff rocks!

    Long live Free stuff!

So, you'd be happy with a lump of coal for an xmas pressie then?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Given the price of coal atm I'd be delighted!

I could trade it in for a Porsche.

If you started over again on CoX today, what would you do differently?

Have they any plans to start over again with CoX?
  17. Don't know why I'm suggesting vet rewards for a time 3 yearsish, give or take, in my future but I want a vet warwolf whistle, I'd assume on a 30 minute timer.
  18. I'd like to know why devs posting (ie not reposts of what they've said by others) on the EU forums are as rare as hens teeth? Yes it's not what they're there for but it is what they do to a greater (BaB) or lesser (anyone not BaB) degree on the US forums.
  19. The one thing I'd like over everything else would be the ability to set the spawn points. If I was ever to torture everyone with my atrocious attempts at a mission story I'd have mobs spawn in every side room that never currently gets a spawn and in areas that people ignore because nothing ever spawns there.

    Opinions please

I used to be more zealous about petitioning names, especially all the wolverine derivatives. Something would have to be pretty offensive now to get me to write a petition for it. Go with your gut, no harm done either way.

As for people who have heal aura on auto always and never turn it off even when standing around at trainers etc... I'd have them banned for life with no second chance!
  21. I was just discussing this on msn and I'd assume the creator would be something like
<ul type="square">[*]choose level range for mission
    [*]choose map type
[*]for offices/labs/sewers etc layout map, for street maps they'd come as currently in game
[*]choose villain type from those available at level of mission and lay first spawn site
[*]lay subsequent spawns (probably the editor will restrict you from laying mobs within x square of each other based on the current dev parameters)
[*]add in mission title, mission story and any dialogue for npcs[/list]The game will then generate mob spawn size based on player mission difficulty and use current xp settings for mobs chosen. Mission reward will be same as for mission of that level. I'd be surprised if initially you could set up player made missions that allow you to reward recipes outside those given normally as part of missions.

It's probable that AV's could be added. I'd imagine player made AVs would at best allow you to reskin currently available AVs, so you're basically choosing from a list of current AV power combos and then design a body for it, this would allow AI to be correct.

The majority of players play for xp and inf

    [/ QUOTE ]

Who gave you the right to speek for "the majority"? You mean YOU.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So when you make definitive statements regarding what players other than yourself think it's fine but no one else has the same insight that you've been gifted with?

    [ QUOTE ]
Basically, if they do allow full rewards, xp grinders, inf farmers and badge hunters will have no reason to play the live game. Cue deserted servers and the death of the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM™

I would imagine, given my mortal understanding of these things, that xp grinders/ inf farmers/ badgehunters etc do not play through the game currently as you define it, as in do not play through contact arcs. Having player made missions won't change that regardless of whether these missions offer reward or not.

Did I miss something or are player missions going to not be on the live servers? I seriously doubt that giving player made missions rewards is going to be the death of the game, though I am willing to admit I was wrong when it happens.

We actually discussed the possibility of merging the forums earlier this year. At the time, and this is still the case now, we decided that the known disadvantages (technical, social, and targeted information sharing amongst other things) outweighed the potential advantages.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmm, out of interest why was this being considered in the first place?
