To be fair you only selectively quoted his post, he also said:
Quote:I've seen 2 dots on Union EVERY single night since incanate content was released, and it was NEVER like that before.
So no, it's not empty.
Couple of years back when I was much more active searching on Union would have given double the hits I get today and yet at the time Union only ever saw one green dot. The only time I can recall seeing Union hit 2 dots then was when Defiant crashed and then search was throwing up 700+ players. Most nights now I haven't seen search much over 150. I'll give you search isn't the absolute server total but I can't believe half the server is perma-hidden, let alone 2/3 or 3/4.
But hey, some people are glass half full types. There are also people who think cream eggs, toblerones and imperial leather haven't really shrunk since they were nippers! -

Only downside is I was linked to this and was told it parodied a few people. The references were a little vague, I didn't find anything or anyone in their I recognised.

Glad that you enjoyed it.
The references are intentionally vague, with one exception.
[/ QUOTE ]
My comment may not have been completely serious. ()
I spotted some of the characterisations, and possibly missed some. Some of the references rang bells that I couldn't quite place.
Btw the n00, I mean Newbie, seemed horribly familiar. You got the powersets right but that wasn't my cossie, the playing style seemed pretty spot on though. Did we ever team in '05?
I am not a tank! -
Thoroughly enjoyed that. I can't remember the last time I read everything the contact said and even scrolled back to catch all the bits of npc dialogue. Only downside is I was linked to this and was told it parodied a few people. The references were a little vague, I didn't find anything or anyone in their I recognised.

04-28-2009 18:06:08 [Local] Positron: We could write Arcs, but with MA out there, we'd rather write TF/SF's
[/ QUOTE ]
I've not been away long enough to expect enough to have changed that would entice me back, my last break was more than a year. However that's just about the last thing I would have wanted Posi to say. Having read the reports of the dross that's coming out of the MA, and as someone who has done maybe 4 TFs in the 3 years of my sub being active I'm thinking there might not come a point were I feel enough time has passed to renew my sub to the game. -
I'm in agreement with Leif as well, the last thing the game needs is more zones.
In fact before I got all jaded and went to pastures new I remember having a discussion about reducing the number of zones heroes side. Iirc we ended up with a list that required somehow deleting close to half the zones in the game, and rejigging a few to a slightly different mob level to fill the gaps slightly. -

Actually it isnt, its bland and yet again Positron and the devs cant be bothered to let people in on their "vision".

Well, reading between the lines, I think he did hint at some sort of arctic zone being worked on

You're right. I can just make it out...
You'll... get... it... when... hell... freezes... over... -
It might make sense but it's still a pain when your scrapper has the expensive salvage and your troller has the recipe and you're waiting for someone you know to come online and do a swap for you.
-
If they discounted every name that was used by more than one account there would be precious few names you could use. I have mains on defiant that someone else has on union and vice versa, in some cases just random pairs of words. Spread that across all the US servers as well and there's going to be huge naming conflicts.
If you can skin your alt as well into the mission you're unlikely to get someone else with the same name & the same cossie. So you'll still be unique.
Personally I'd be quite pleased if any of my alts were well enough known that someone would bother to recreate them in their mission. -

#1 - You can play it AND still have a life! In The Other MMORPG, a mid-level dungeon is estimated even by the devs. to require "between 3-5 hours" to complete.
3-5 HOURS!!Are they MAD??!
Don't they realise how a big a chunk of life that is for a mother of a two-year-old? In CoX, even if you've only got an hour to spare, you can still have fun. Missions are completeable in that time, even in big teams, so you don't have to miss out just 'cause you can't play for hours.
[/ QUOTE ]WoW instances are comparable to CoH TF's, which can well take that long (or much longer, as is the case with SSTF1)
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm sure I read on another thread that most of our tfs only take a couple of minutes to complete... -

We're discussing movie stars
[/ QUOTE ]
I thought you were discussing Vin Densel? -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, Atlas Park station seems to have rather a lot, I think I counted four.
Frankly, though, it doesn't bother me. It's kind of nice in an odd way. It's something a bit dynamic in an otherwise static environment.
[/ QUOTE ]
Will you still think it's dynamic when they're still advertising the same movie in 12 months time?
If no one pays for a replacement ad, or when the time runs out for the current ad, they should make the old one get all worn and tatty over time. -
[ QUOTE ]
So an ad for a religious movie is the first to go live here?
(anyone spot whats wrong here?)
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah it stars Vin Diesel!
It'll take more than advertising it in CoH to get me to go see anything 'starring' him. -
I don't have a US account. If I could transfer my alts I'd certainly consider it, though a bigger problem to me would be losing the SG bases. Tbh if I had to chose I'd prefer to take the bases with me that the alts.
-
I'm replying to GR as I'm not sure who the quote is actually attributable to.
When we first heard of the restrictions to trial accounts I thought they were a step too far. In my mind it doesn't matter how good a game is if the trial is overly restrictive it can put you off before you begin.
[ QUOTE ]
From issue 12 pacth notes
Trial Accounts now have the following restrictions. Characters on Trial Accounts may not:
Hold more than 50,000 Influence/Infamy
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally I think that limit is a too low. By level 10 since the introduction of salvage I don't think I have hit level 10 without at least 100k in inf. At lvl 14 you have 21 slots (ignoring rest/brawl/etc), at lvl 12 when DOs arrive you get 18. I think to give a trialist a reasonable idea of how they're becoming stronger as they level they need to be able to afford and slot a full set of DOs. At around 5k inf a DO that makes around 100k inf, erring on the side of caution I'd put the inf limit at 150-200k. That to me is low enough that someone selling inf would find it time consuming to transfer any sizeable amount but give the genuine trialist a good feel for the game.
[ QUOTE ]
Join a Supergroup
[/ QUOTE ]
Plus and minuses to this restriction. A trialist could be prevented by the game from speaking on coalition. Also I'd let them add to storage but locked out of taking from storage. This would allow them to see bases and use base transports but prevent them from looting a SGs phat lewt. They could also be locked out of any coalition bases
[ QUOTE ]
Use any chat other than /local, /team, or /friend.
[/ QUOTE ]
This seems to be a major issue with quite a number of people. Not ideal but perhaps allow trialists to reply to /tells but not initiate them. That should help with trialist teaming a little.
I don't know if this is possible but I wonder about a trialist automated /tell. The trialist sees someone broadcasting they are looking for people to join their team. If the trialist could send an automated /tell saying something like "[level 8 scrapper on trial account would like to join your team]". They couldn't say anything more on /tell but would inform the player of their interest in teaming.
[ QUOTE ]
Invite characters into a Team (although Trial Account characters can join a team)
[/ QUOTE ]
Not great but fair enough, other than allowing them to form teams of their own I can't think of a middle ground
[ QUOTE ]
Use In-Game Mail
[/ QUOTE ]
I've hardly used the system in all this time so I think a trialist can manage without it for a few days.
[ QUOTE ]
Level up past level 14
[/ QUOTE ]
As good a place as any I suppose to put the limiter.
[ QUOTE ]

Not sure if pvpers would like trialists in the pvp zones. If they did the level limit could be moved to 15 to let them see Bloody Bay. -
[ QUOTE ]
And the game WILL take a massive hit. the question will be wil the subs be high enough by the time it happens to withstand it.
At this rate the answer is no. And I dont want that. I want the game to be ready.
Sorry to anyone whos offended that I want the game to survive the next 12-18 months.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll admit I'm not the most optimistic of people regarding CoHs long term survival, however I don't really believe that anything the devs do or don't do or say at this stage in the games life is going to have a significant effect on the subscription numbers. The numbers will fluctuate a bit for one reason or another but short of a sequel I can't see any massive influx of players.
The devs are probably getting themselves ready, it's just a case of when we get to hear about it. They can't pull players out of thin air so all they can do is try and retain as many as they possibly can. However if they release their ideas now they will be forgotten by the time their first competitor appears on the market. I think this post by BaBs is correct, in particular;
[ QUOTE ]
Information is a very powerful, but short lived resource for us. It's in everyone's best interest to utilize it to its maximum potential by releasing it in the right time and the right place.
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe if CO and DCO both got released tomorrow and were fan[censored]tastic CoH could be dead in 12-18 months but even at my most pessimistic I can't see it dropping off the map in that timescale without at least one major contender already on the market. -

Ta muchly all for reminding me how ancient I've now become. Think anyone would believe I'm 21... again!?!
Virtual cake for all! -
Haven't been on much this weekend but tonight was pretty choppy, for the whole team. I've seen it much worse though. It was pretty consistent and some of the lagging made for interesting fights but, and I can't quite describe why, it was a manageable kind of lag. I've had nights of lag that your only option was to log out and do something else, this wasn't one of them.

Actually I often felt ME 'tricked' me into doing things I hadn't planned. I often chose a response when talking to someone based on the text example of what I was going to say only for the words that came out of my mouth to bare little if any relation to the tone of the example, which would lead the conversation off on a tangent to where I wanted it to go.
[/ QUOTE ]
Except for, y'know, the game making it pretty clear that the lowest options on the right were confrontational or pushy, with the ones on the left being expositionary in nature. They never said the dialogue you could choose was specific; it only set the tone of your response.

Weird. I never picked up on that all the time I was playing! -

Whilst I understand the point you're making Cryo, I hardly think it's relevant in a 16 rated game about comic superheroes. *resists urge to insert a semi colon and right bracket*
[/ QUOTE ]
It probably isn't. However I think a black = bad and white = good along with maybe an exactly in the middle third option is a horribly simplistic system if they chose to use it, and to me massively uninteresting. For the Beano or Dandy, or whatever the kids read today, black and white is fine but for an audience of 16+ it needs to be a bit less cut and dried.
[/ QUOTE ]
But not so much that you were unsure what was the right thing to do - otherwise, as pointed out, you could go rogue by mistake.
[/ QUOTE ]
As long as one single action didn't outweigh everything else you did (as in kotor) this wouldn't be an issue. Even the greatest hero will have done something they aren't proud of, and the greatest villain can once in their lives do one act of kindness. -
