tbh they brought it out too fast again. ITS thier FAULT for what happens in the aftermath

    [/ QUOTE ]

Agreed, they put it on test for about what... two weeks? in that time either minor bugs or none at all get fixed and major ones make it through to live. For instance the chat bugs etc.

If they hadnt been in such a rush to say look at the new shinyyyyy it might have actually been successful

    [/ QUOTE ]
No - the final open beta was something like that. It had been in various stages of closed beta for something like a month before that iirc

Even the EU closed beta had about 2 weeks before the open started.

And many bugs did get addressed in that time.

I agree that it was released too early, but to claim it only had 2 weeks of ineffective testing is utter hogswash.

    [/ QUOTE ]

so it had a lot longer time of ineffective testing?

The bit that surprised me most was that US-based MMO report had totally stolen the old British ITV "News at Ten" theme. Thought it might just have seemed similar when it started, then the chimes of Big Ben came in...

    MA as End Game?
Certainly possible. After all, once you're 50, no need to get XP, no need to farm or rush through arcs that are story heavy to get to the next mish. Therefore using the Architect system, players who enjoy the game can play the game their way, to whatever level challenge they like. I personally wouldn't have any problems with them having had no restrictions on MA arcs for 50s. Obviously, the rewards could be a bit more restricted for under 50s. Say an XP-cap or something. But after 50, let people play things as the author intended. Of course that does imply that people would use the story creation tools to create stories, but it could be seen as a Danger Room type of scenario, training and challenging ones self as well as an interactive holographic entertainment suite.

The devs said something on their G4 interview about erotic fan-fiction. I'm really really not asking for examples, but I don't understand how it could happen in the Mission Architect system anyway. Maybe with cut-scenes it'd be more likely. Still, from an in-game POV, it'd be likley that AE would get used for this a lot, especially villain-side.

Think its probably too late to close it now, the whole boxed version and all. I was never really for it to start with, rather have had them putting out new arcs themselves than spending this time on a faulty tool that was delivered before it was ready and yet already had to be put back. But then its been a while since an issue release made me smile and I've actually had more joy from the boosters packs and more anticipation for the next one of those than for I15.

    [/ QUOTE ]

to be entirely honest, I'm not surprised the stuff you're paying an additional charge for is better. It's sad though, that the "free" issues we get don't work as intended (or at all in some cases) since these are supposed to be the things that keep people playing. Shiny stuff like more costumes, some minor powers and emotes are great. I love some of that, but we're paying for stuff that, lets be honest, a lot of the time was included in the old Issues, and NC shouldn't be taking as a given purchase for us.

Personally I think it might have been a good idea to make the Architect a booster pack type purchase. That way those of us who want to tell stories could do at a small fee, but everyone else would have been free to carry on as normal with some nice costume pieces and maybe a dev-created arc or two. It'd also have given them time/money to work out the kinks in the MA/AE system before it went live and they had to do patches on a seemingly daily basis.

    Badge Kills

I just recently tried the 2nd build on my MM, could have respecced, but thought about having one build that's mostly pet control and another that allows me to mix it up a bit more too. a teaming build and solo build as it is. of course, the main differences (other than the order I chose powers in) is my ditching teleport for flight and not taking personal forcefield on my 2nd build. might respec build 1 to further diversify them

and kills badges are much easier in teams. especially for those enemies who spawn more often with larger groups.

    Matching Spandex

that all depends on what you're thinking tha spandex will look like?
any specific patterns/colours/themes you're thinking of following? i've loads of alts without SGs
  7. I've teamed with Hand-Prints before, usually to good effect. Anyone from any of the more visible SGs is usually a good bet tbh.

    Heroes

    [ QUOTE ]
I think they're random heroes we don't know and will never know tbh. Just like those heroes at the CoH login screen.

    [/ QUOTE ]

aren't the ones on the login screen the same guys? Spiral logo green guy looks familiar.
Of course, yeah, AFAIK they've never appeared or been named in-game or any other media.

    Patron Missions

thanks for the offers of help. Still might try and take you guys up on them, but I'll see how it goes. Something must have been messed up last time I tried them, because I went back to the one I'd gotten stuck at and the mobs were a lot easier. I'd been teaming just before trying it, and think maybe the game had scaled them to team size even though I was solo.
Not exactly easy now, but far more manageable.

Well he should! I vote we start an online petition to get him to change his name to something less offensive, that should work. Ban this filth. Won't someone please think of the children.

Down with this sort of thing!
  13. I have it. Got my graphics settings pretty low though, maybe it improves with higher settings? Maybe the reflection is created as soon as the water is visible on-screen and doesn't change? I don't know.
Regardless, you're not the only one.

And your thread title sounds like an album name.

    What to do?

If they pull it they'd look like the biggest bunch of [censored] in the industry - but almost certainly ongoing tweaks will happen.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree it'd make them look a bit stupid. But worst in the industry? That'd be the video game industry? When they announce a sequel to this game, then take 12years to not make it, and then close their doors, then they might, maybe, be in contention for that title. Maybe.
  15. I call it COH. I've never really seen COV as that much of an independant entity, possibly because I started with the combined edition.

This reminds me of when the British media were trying to define Gordon Brown as dour and they kept describing him as do-er rather than daw-er, as I knew the word : http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dour the two pronunciations are on the little speaker icons, so I guess both are valid.

I think you'd have got away with your version of ethereal, I think I thought it was that way too, having read it in books but having had no opportunity to say it aloud. That's going back some.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    dour, rhymes with hour
    dour, sounds like poor

I believe the latter is the Scots pronunciation. At least, I'm Scottish, and that is pretty much how everyone says it around here, unless they've got a "phone voice" on or something.

    T.A.

    Player 2.
Has bought the event costumes (via minipacks) - no badges or other special bit's / bonuses,
and earned one (1) pool 'C' Vet reward...

    Not the same...

    Could even say:
    Player 3.
Level 50 and only ever used the AE!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Buying the event minipacks is still tosh, whichever way you wrap it up.

Its like one person going to an event, say, and getting a free souvenier for having showed up. It's meant to be special.

Then another person just goes and buys it on eBay or something, because 'its cool and they want it'. Which totally defeats the point.

The same can be said for veteran awards, because I sure as hell don't know what the other suggestion is. Pools? 3, 12, eleventy 5? English, please.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Since I'm the only one who appears to be understanding this, let me try and explain. The rewards as they are now come every 3 months. What these rewards are is fixed. They come out in order.
Coolio is suggesting that every 3 months we get the choice of one of the rewards that are currently available, and, that in order for those who've been here longer and thus earned more rewards to still see some benefit, that instead of every Vet Reward being available to choose from after the first 3 months, that they be divided into 3 categories (hats, pools, leagues, divisions, conferences, tiers, buckets, tombola, whatever you want to call them), with one group being reserved for the rewards currently available at 12, 24, 36, 48 and 60 months, of which you'd be able to pick one reward from the choice of 5, for every year you played. Likewise the 2nd group would be comprised of those rewards you currently earn at the 6th, 18th, 30th, etc month, and you'd be able to choose from any one of those every other six months. The rest of the rewards would be open to choose from at 3months, and you'd get another at 9 month, another at 15, etc.

I'm actually not sure if Coolio was suggesting dividing the rewards up this specific way, but the principle is the same. Most wanted Vet Rewards, you'd get to pick one every 12 months, slightly more requested stuff, every 6months and less special stuff, every 3 months. You'd still get the same badges, and you'd still only get one reward package every 3 months, you'd just get the option of taking things that were more important to you slightly sooner in some cases.
Like I said upthread, I've never used the Greek letters symbols on a toon and don't foresee me doing so any time in the near future. Having the option to take shoulder capes or something instead would be good. As I say, I can see why people might disagree with the suggestion, but it isn't exactly making/letting people buy every piece of content available in-game now is it?

As for the special seasonal events costume pieces, I'd not be terribly bothered by it, I've earned most of the bits I want myself now, but probably would have shelled out a couple of quid to get furry boots for one of my toons when I started playing just over a year ago and found the perfect item to complete my look, and discovered it was only available during a 2 week event I'd just missed. Badges and other rewards are still there for folks to enjoy and show off with, and those who can wait for the events, and are willing to put the time in can get the same things for free. I see no problem with NC exploiting people's impatience for monetary gain so long as those things can still be gained in the normal way through playing the game and there is still some distinction between them.
  19. all of which does sound cool, but i can see people being [censored] at it.
Event stuff, fair enough, as I waited 9months to get the winter event just for those damn furry boots for a toon.
I'd have liked to have waited til my 8000000month reward before picking the Greek letters and instead took something that interested me, but it still kinda means something if I see someone running around in samurai armour. Though, I suppose, limiting the choices of rewards into different pools/tiers would maintain some of the validity of that. After 12 months I'd hope that people are maybe not as good as they'll ever be, but certainly experienced enough (and with a long enough attention span) that they're fun to play with.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
    No and No.

Events are just that, events. If we wanna skii down the slope we'd have to buy the x-mas pack? heh f that noise.

Veteran rewards are fine as they are for the most part.
Some things are silly like no 45 month reward and that the helmets come at 51 months while sprints are in at 12 months (they're both preorder bonus things given).
Would also make people pick the better vet rewards right away, play for a year and you can get the 60month reward? no thanks.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think Coolio meant the rewards that come from the events being purchasable. The events themselves would still be on only for a short time, but you'd have the option of paying for the santa hat, the hearts pattern and halo auras, the pumpkin head, etc. I don't know what else there is in the way of rewards other than cossies and badges, and I think the Badges could still be linked to completing things within the events themselves.

I took it to be a suggestion that the costume piece rewards would be made purchasable.

As to the Veteran rewards, picking your own would be good, but now, after as long as they've had it going the way it is, I think it'd be a bit unfair to the true veteran players (or, Veteran Payers, since you could theorectically have all the rewards without having even having logged in for years).
  21. hey, I don't think its too bad. I only fear that it might make Villain side a bit too quiet for me to get a decent team again.

    Patron Missions

I'm doing the Black Scorpion patron missions just now too, it's bloody hard solo. Gonna see if I can get a team together tonight. Should I tell them it's farming?
  23. I'll try the others when they comes out. If I like them better, I'll switch. Or if I can afford 2 games, I'll keep 2 games active if I still want to play them both. Or maybe I'll like all 3 (4) games and decide I'm not so bothered about eating.

  25. not terribly bothered about a merge with us forums. it'd be nice to get the info from the devs firsthand, but we'd have a lot more dross to search through. personally, i'd be happy (ecstatic?) just to get a forum that worked 99% of the time.
