  1. Well, I got a shiney new 'Slayer of Madness' badge, so I guess we made it... but DAMN if Lanaru the Mad wasn't the toughest critter I've EVER faced... the other AV's and GM's I've met so far were PEANUTS compared to him...

Ah well, plenty of more progress towards teh 'Exhalted' badge.
  2. Hmm, well, if your data is correct, it would seem that my estimate for daily earnings are set a bit low... your SG earned 50% less Prestige per Month than my fictional SG, but mine had 75 active players every day, while your had 'round 40 more-or-less irregular players.

So maybe this fictional SG could actually make it in ONLY 1½ year - or so.
  3. Yeah, FF's got one heck of an advantage with that Personal Force Field... have a thought to us poor non-FF Masterminds who can't turn ourselves invincible at will.
  4. Interesting article... still, it proves a different - though equally valid - point from mine. They show that graduately buildling up a base will 'bog down' at a certain point due to Rent. I show that, even if Rent was removed entirely, it would take ridiculous ammounts of work from an impossibly active SG to get to the 'big base'...

Hey, Bridger, you'll make sure this stuff gets to the big cheese in the US, right?

Then all we can do is hope that they won't just shrug and say 'Hey, as long as they keep paying their subscription, who cares?'
  5. I just made some calculations on Prestige-cost for bases - came to some interesting results. I put it in a sepperate thread, you should check it out. It's just broad strokes based on theoretical maximums, but it helps to illustrate how ridiculously high the prices are set. I don't know WHAT kind of calculations they used to justify the prices, but it seems that somehow, an extra '0' snuck its way in at the end...
  6. I remember, back in the days of the 'Great Nerfs' of I5 and ED, the Devs would challenge us to put forwards exact calculations to show how bad it was, rather than just claim that it sucked... nevermind that lots of people did and it STILL went ahead, I'm going to try and do the same thing for the Prestige-costs of bases, by doing a calculation that will show how well the pricing fits.

    -pulls up a blackboard-

Okay, let's see... from my own experience, you will earn, at average, around 20 Prestige per kill when soloing. That's an average between the many, many minion, who may give 7-9, and the bosses who'll give more (and of course the occasional big payout from AV's). Figuring in travel-time between mobs, and between missions, I will assume that, on an hourly basis, you get two kills per minute. Figuring in two 'Mission Bonuses' of 250 Prestige (since a fairly competent player can usually complete a mission in 'bout half an hour - again, this is a wide average), that makes 490 Prestige per hour.
This should also loosely apply to teams, since bigger teams means more kills, but less Prestige per kill. And of course, SK'ing and Exemplaring doesn't affect Prestige gains at all...

Now, a true CoH Fanatic would probably spend an average of 8 hours per day playing, and we'll of course assume that he's in SG mode all the time... this figure is based on the fact that, generally speaking, you need to sleep 8 hours per day to stay concious, and work 8 hours per day to pay the rent, the electricity, and the 'net connection. Of course, in the week-ends, there is more time, but on the other hand, you'll also need to stop occasionally for bio-breaks and eating on working days, so we go with the 8-hour average. That makes 3920 Prestige per player per day. Not bad, huh?

Well, let's assume that this individual is in an SG filled completely with similar no-life CoH Fanatics. SG membership roof is 75 - so, that would mean that the SG as a whole makes 294.000 Prestige per day. That's 2.058.000 per week, or 8.820.000 Per month.

Now, the biggest plot available, the Massive Secure Complex, costs 137.812.500 Prestige. Assuming that the SG used their 'Starting Bonus' to set up a minimal base on the smallest ordinary plot, that is.

So, this theoretic group of utter and complete CoH Fanatics would have to fight for 137.812.500/8.820.000 = 15,625 months - that's around one and a quarter YEAR, to be able to afford just the PLOT. Now, of course, that's just the plot - let's assume that they want to put in one of each type of room, of the biggest type available, obviously - why else would you need such a big plot?

    Great Room: 150.000
    Secure Generator Core: 16.900.000
    Command Center: 12.500.000
    Secure Portal Room: 1.350.000
    Workshop: 400.000
    Trauma Center: 525.000
    Secure Dual Vault: 9.000.000
    Stronghold: 37.500.000
    Total: 78.325.000

So, dividing with the old figure of 8.820.000 earned per month, that comes to 8,88 months - add that to the 15,625 from before and you get aproximately 24,5 months - that's just over TWO YEARS of work to complete this theoretic base with all the rooms. And that isn't even counting the stuff you need to put IN the rooms - I don't have access to the necessary data to calculate exactly how much THAT would be, but it's probably safe to assume that it would add another half year or so...

Also note that this calculation completely ignores the problem of 'Rent', since I don't know how to calculate the rent - it's interesting to contemplate whether, after those 2 years of hard work creating the base, this fictional Fanatic SG would actually be able to support the Rent...

I just hope this calculation makes it to the devs somehow...

    Class dismissed.
  7. Let me put it this way: I challenge you to find just ONE person who would be willing to go through the 12-hour slog called 'The Quaterfield TF' TWICE...

Gimme a call if you decide to do one of the other 3 TF's. I'll be on-line. Otherwise, concider me out.
  8. Telepads for quick access to trial zones, upgrades for the hospital to increase starting HP and end, mission computer for the Coalition missions (when those go in), the Tree of Life/Autodoc Inspiration store (that you can also SELL inspirations to), and of course whatever cool things go in with I7...

So yeah, non-raiding SG's pretty much need a workshop, too.
  9. I'm in, time's not a problem for me, and I need Lanaaru too.

BlackDragon, level 46 BS/DA Scrapper, with Recall Friend and Teleport Self (and Hover).
  10. Hey, don't let it get you down... the thing with these MMO's are that they're basically a cross-section of humanity, which means that you'll get all the annoying bits, too - elitists, clique-builders, arrogant louts, ignorants, straightforward [censored]-holes, and jerk-hackers...

As in real life, all you can really do is ignore and avoid them. Let 'em annoy each other to death. I've run into my share of idiots in the game, but afterwards, I always just think "Screw them, I'm gonna log on with my scrapper and solo for a bit to cool down - then I'm gonna find another team and see if my luck isn't better."

In the end, I doubt any kind of player actions could drive me from this game - one thing I've learned from life is that you can't let others push you around... once you start, it'll never stop. Now, DEV decisions, THOSE could make me leave...
  11. I've got one or two of these left on one of my chars, too. He's in no danger of being deleted anytime soon, though, so call in anytime if you need a couple of more kills for the Toothbreaker badge.
  12. I'm interested, depending on WHICH Shadow-Shard TF we're talking about... I already did Quaterfield's, but I'm game for the other three.

The time doesn't matter to me - I can make it either way.
  13. I know that holds, mezzes, disorients and such are suppressed in PvP - my question is, what about Immobilize? Is that affected by the same rules, or can you perma-immobilize someone? What about Fear?
  14. Just a BTW... the official exchange-rates are 500 to 1 on influence-prestige, so yeah, it IS a much more economic idea to use the Influence to support others playing in SG mode after 25... once you get to the really high levels, like 45+, you'll usually get enough from enhancement resale to finance your own enhancement upgrades, particularly if you save some cash by farming AV's for their guaranteed SO drops...

Every little bit counts. I'm trying to run a fairly small SG too - used to be bigger, but an internal power-struggle led to several active players leaving, so now we're just barely paying the rent... still, got it fully functional with 2 worktables, medical center, and the (non-functional) Oracle... - that's Mission Computer to you tech-types. But I'm starting to doubt if we'll EVER get enough Prestige to buy a Teleporter room...

Maybe we should arrange a protest in front of the City Hall, since we've got that handy emote, anyway... we could stand around yelling "No More Rent!" or sing "Give SG's a Chance"...
  15. Prices definitely needs to go down... they all seem geared for those 75-member SG's with dozens of 50's and at least 20 players online in SG mode every day...

I guess it's an attempt to over-compensate for the huge ammounts of Influence that was floating around Paragon City before... but really, the simple fact that high-level players loose all Inf-gain when in SG mode fixes THAT, and the 500-1 exchange-rate takes it one step further... topping it off by pricing everything so ridiculously high is just overkill.

I could live with the rent if the actual stuff I BUY was a bit cheaper, but as it is, it kinda' feel like buying an appartment, and STILL paying rent...
  16. I'm having odd trouble with the names I assign my pets... they keep resetting, but they don't even do that in a predictable manner. I'm pretty new to MM'ing, so I'm posting ithere to see if it's a known issue, with or without a known workaround...

Basically, I'm a Necro MM with a Vampiric them, so I named my fist zombie 'Roma', after the undead servants mentioned in Bram Stoker's classic 'Dracula'. Good so far. Then I get a second zombie, and rename that one to Roma as well - it turns into Roma 1 and Roma 2, works for me. However... in the next mission, when I summon them, the second one has reset to the default 'Zombie' again. I changed it to Roma a couple of more times before giving up and leaving it as Zombie... figured it was just an issue with renaming them both to the same thing.

However, when I got my Grave Knight, I'd gotten a bit tired of those serious names, and I'd just bought a Marx Brothers DVD, so just for laughs, I changed the names of my three minions to 'Harpo', 'Chico' and 'Groucho'. Good for a laugh... but next time I summoned them, guess what I was stuck with?

    Wrong!

It was Harpo, Roma, and Groucho. Somehow, the same second zombie that had been continously resetting to 'Zombie' was now resetting to 'Roma', which I'd futilely attempted to make him into BEFORE... guess the joke's on me.

So, sound familiar in any way?
  17. Traps are probably as close as you can get... most of those are pretty militaristic, anyway.

You're righ about Mercs lacking an obvious secondary, though, especially compared to the other 3. Robots obviously go with Forcefields, Ninjas with Trick Arrow, and Zombies will work with Dark Miasma or Poison, depending on whether they're the Vahzilok or Banished Pantheon variation...

So I guess Mercs ends up with Traps pretty much by exclusion, anyway. Besides, they were added together.
  18. Well, none of the people who replied to this thread actually showed up, but I successfully gathered a 6-person team nonetheless, and swepth through the mission with little trouble.

So, well, in case any of the peeps I picked up comes by, thanks a lot!
  19. -hides his face in his hands-

    I do NOT need this...

Tell you what. I'm gonna go to Moonfire at 12, and I'm gonna start trying to gather a team. If you guys are around, you're first on the list. Otherwise, I just look around randomly.
  20. Without feedback from Leese, I'm gonna have to stick with the 12 o'clock time... we won't have a big enough team, but I guess we'll just have to try'n pick somebody up. If all else fails, well, it fails, and we try some other day...
  21. I don't personally have a problem with that, but in my experience, if you do it that late, you get to see a lot of people going AFK for an hour 'cuz it's dinnertime... still...

Hey, Leese, would you be available Saturday evening?

If we had two people capable of doing it in the evening, while BrainDamage and DeathBadger don't have a problem with this, we COULD move it... it'd at least give us the minimum team.

I'd like to do this, can bring either:

    L31 Ice/devices blaster
    L36 DM/Regen scrapper
    L50 Spines/Regen scrapper

global chat name is in sig

    [/ QUOTE ]

Bring whoever you like, just bring SOMEONE! It's starting to look like the biggest problem's gonna be pulling together 6 toons...
  23. I'd prefer the tank, too... and if you're feeling rusty, a Tank's a whole lot more forgiving of mistakes than a Blaster is.
  24. Well, now that the proper artwork finally went in for the Moonfire TF badge, I think it's about time I collected it... who's with me?

Unless it turns out that a lot of people prefers another time-frame, we'll start at 12 noon, this upcomming Saturday.

The level range of this TF is 23-28, but of course everyone above is welcome too - as long as you don't complain about getting no EXP. The minimum team size to do this is 6, but of course a full team just makes the final AV easier.

Though Moonfire is one of the shorter TF's, it's probably still gonna take several hours, so before you apply, make sure you can actually stay the distance with a minimum of AFK's.

Well, go ahead and pipe in - generally speaking, it'll be first come, first serve... but the TF will be vastly easier with at least one Tank and one Defender, so in the end I may have to make difficult choices... says the highly expendable scrapper...

The ONLY one who isnt in Maria's arc is Anti Matter. For him you need to do Tina or Unai's out of arc missions

    [/ QUOTE ]

I stand corrected... I actually thought that Maria's arc had each and every one of them, but I guess Anti-Matter is the exception that confirms the rule. I've already finished Tina's arc, but somebody said you'd meet him in Unai Kemen's arc too, right? I just got him as a contact... when I reach Anti-Matter, I'll look you up, Matakoshi.
