Its irrelevant what the numbers are given that I gave my personal experience of the effectiveness, if there is another more reliable source I would love to know where. -

If I was going for a PvE build I would choose Elec over Fire primary.
For ST damage either SS or EM. SS for the impatient EM for the long-haul.

Nit-picking here but 2 people have said a brute's armour is his primary, its not - its his 2ndary. After spending which in total must add up to quite a few hours staring at the powersets, u tend not to forget; however I believe tanker's sets are the other way round.
SS I didnt think would be all that great for AoE, it is. I wish that I could fit lightening field pre-lv40 but I would be gimping myself in another area if I did.
Footstomp is a must have lv32 power, but with EM u get an AoE whirling hands at lv 8. Im trying out EM/inv now and I am picking it up at lv35.
Hand clap can be used to disorient controllers, or Saturday I was in warburg and (after respec'ing it to lv 32 and footstomp later) was filled with glee when my hand clap not only disorientated a well known leader of a large guild (which 1 of my alts is in), but disorientated 2 stalkers I had previously not seen. Knocked hide right off! I killed 2 of them before power surge had 30sec left, if my rage crash hadnt have happened immediately after than hand clap Im sure I would have got all 3. Actually killed 1 stalker twice, and the corr once. -

With regards to endurance and slotting:
1 slot CJ for end or def (makes little difference on a resistance based brute when u consider a luck is 25% def and frequently u dont notice it unless u stack 4 or 5). Acrobatics 2 or 3 slot for end. 1 slot any 2ndary power set toggles [for end, 3 res]. Put 1 end reduction in your fury building low level attacks, substituting out either a damage or an accuracy from your current sample template.
Ive not used fire but watch the endurance on the AoE attacks can be high, I would try not to slot any big hit attacks with end, especially with "consume".
Oh and if u didnt have consume, get it! PBAoE endurance recovery are a key power for brutes, especially when u expend endurance to gain fury. Use consume rather than rest and hold onto your hard earned fury. -
Max where are u getting these numbers from again? I checked prima guide & http://www.nofuture.org.uk/cov/power...Electric_Armor, both dont mention the KB element but its safe to say it exists. If u have not jumped then the only time Ive been knocked back is by a blaster (presumably using powerblast , a knockback power).
I wonder if its time for a guide. Seems like the same questions about elec armour about 5 times on this page alone. Its taken me 2 lv 50 brutes and 5 respecs to come up with slotting I believe is optimal (not including time on the test server).
One decision that I stick with is, hasten. Id rather have my tier 9 shield up more often when I need it, than have a resistance that can only be used to prevent swift PvE deaths. I drop tough, in favor of pulling, its always preferable to pull a large group of mobs so that AoE attacks hit 100% of them as opposed to 20% of them. Especially true when fighting longbow and (less common) wailers (considering the secondary effects of their attacks and the nature of elec armour).
Also if u get any accolades, hasten will improve their recharge too, + your big hitting attacks will be available more often and your DPS will go up, which is the name of the game for a brute. -

i bet its all the ppl who play heroes the most who are saying stealth isn't needed lol <img src="/uk/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Anyway .. i'd seriously drop fast healing till much later on and try and get a good attack chain in sooner.
MoG is a death sentence in PvP and revive is pretty much worthless outside of PVE,nothing an awake can't do.
TF really needs fully slotting and ET really needs to be 2 acc 3 dmg 1 end reduxs or you'll find yourself with no end.
GET DULL PAIN.
Instant heal dosn't need 3 heals as with just 3 recharge its heal rate is 800% with 3 heals its something like 950% so theres 3 spare slots.
1 end reduxs on hide is all you need.
2 max on intergration.
I'd take invis to.

Havent u got TF and ET mixed up? TF has apparently 18 end cost, but ET sacrafices some health to keep end cost to 10 unslotted. -

Yes way. Full Fury is a 200% boost to your base damage.
100% + 200% = 300%
Now if you have Build Up for example:
100% + 200% + 100% = 400%
Now we assume 3 Damage SO enhancements (rounded to 100% for simplicty):
100% + 200% + 100% + 100% = 500% damage
That leaves another 350% for you to reach through inspirations and teammate buffs.
Don't expect to hit this all of the time. A Brute running at 850% damage is going to be a special occasion and an awesome sight to behold.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok that is the brute's damage cap, I want to know how many reds I should take against for example bat'zul the AV at the end of the cap au strike force to maximise stalker damage. I only want a link to a post or if you have personally tested it speak up.
We killed him in the end (1 lv 50 brute auto-malfactored to lv20, and me a lv16 stalker), after several trips to bloody bay for shivs. Only killed him in the end when I loaded my 2 lv 50 alts with inspirations and forced the brute to load up with purples (since he cant tank an AV with lv 20 shields, not with 20 fire imps being summoned).
I just used hit and run tactics, IMO the way stalkers should combat AVs. I was doing like 10% damage every 30sec with AS. -

what is magical 100% unresisted critical ?
[/ QUOTE ]
The reason why stalkers do so much damage, its the inherent "assassination" skill. U get a critical from hide, like scrappers get random criticals or blasters get 30% unresistable damage for all attacks. Corruptors get "scourge", an unresistable critical when the enemy mob is low on health.
FYI according to my sources, the Assassin strike when done from hidden gives 600 unresistable damage.
Sorry if this sounded patronising. -

"it's bugged for me another way...
I run into a group, as boss(lets say he survives- after BU even) placate a random minion, then smack boss again for another crit...
It doesnt work the way it used to every time anymore (the UB, -AS #1, placate #2, scrap #3, then AS #2) -- Sometimes it works, but usualy nothing happens(#2 ignores me, but when I AS him, nothing happens -- no crit) "
[/ QUOTE ]
Quoting from the American post.
I did notice that when I used placate in PvE that I got a critical on the mob next to the placated one, making it more of an AoE tool. That being said, its not the same as I remember it on US trial (did they make changes since then?).
Yeah they know its a bug, but its not important as stalkers are uber anyway.
The really silly thing about it is that (if I understand correctly and I believe I do), when u put a disorient icon on your PvP enemy only he can see it. Im used to a different MMORPG where u could see the enemy's buffs, debuffs et al the same as u can see your own.
It makes no sence to say that a tool works only until after an effect (that most of ur attacks do), that u cannot see on the enemy PvP, has worn off. U have no inkling as to wether he has the disorient symbol (or a -fly for instance) in his set of icons. This in effect makes the tool totally random, and reduces the element of tactics/skill for stalkers in PvP.
Ironicly, if u check the power descriptions, stalkers get a critical for a target held or sleeping; unbelievable that one of their primary tools (for defence and offence) does not work when the enemy has been hit with a status effect!
The best approach would be to play stalkers as lamely as possible so that the placate was not needed and the possibility of retaliation was minimal. The makes for a poor experience for both stalker and enemy (IMO, ofcourse). -

24) --> Placate==> Rechg(24)
[/ QUOTE ]
Assasin strike, is a great move but only when used from hidden. U will find Assassin strike is often recharged before u have either hidden or placate has recharged. In a perfect world, assassin strike recharges about as fast as hide takes (+ a few odd punches thrown in). Ive played a stalker to lv 41 on US trial and have a lv16 atm on my EU acc.
Personally I would slot AS 3 acc, 3 damage; especially for PvP. If ur AS misses usually it leaves u in a world of pain.
Placate has a long recharge, I would 3 slot for recharge for PvE; but as here (http://boards.cityofvillains.com/sho...557&page=0), if u havent been able to finish them off and u need a 2nd placate, u have stayed too long already. So for PvP, 1 slot is enough.
I would recommend trying to fit hasten in, and 3 recharge placate for PvE. Placate gives u the oppotunity to either assassin strike or use ur next most powerful move (if u are being interrupted), and get the magical 100% unresisted "critical" .
That is just the basics of the stalker (needless to say u should use build-up as often as possible, and combine it with AS for Bosses); Im not going to try to advise u on ur 2ndary since I never had it (although I have read 3 slotting health increases the base healing figure which all ur subsequent healing powers are multiplied by).
Just checked intergration is a KB protection, so TP is fine. Ill add my blessing for choosing TP. WoW, Star Wars Galaxies, and CoH/CoV all have attacks which stop movement. Movement is key to survival, especially when not dueling (i.e. not 1vs1). TP owns all the immobilizes, if ur held u still need a BF, but only acrobatics (from jumping) increases the ammount of holds u can resist.
In my experience in PvP, u can absorb 3 holds with a 10mag mez protection; and blasters get 4 holds in their primary (Ive read). Comparing cj/sj/acro with tp foe/tp self, tp self render useless -fly -jump; whereas if a controller is stacking holds on u out of reach, the only sensible thing to do is run. -
Would be nice to see the tempory powers on our side at that date, or u will have every hero invisible chucking web nades about; or worse. I think u will find that its a certain "galeforce" doing all the work at odd hours to make heros have the 2nd tier of temp powers.

Everybodys quoteing numbers from guides or websites but nobodys speaking from experience.
In my experience with my em/invul you HAVE to slot attacks and double slot all shields with end reduxs to even have a chance in long fights and PVP.
Aidself is awesome for em/invul.
Leave out the passives and take aidself .. apparantly it works out the same resistance but ups your regen rate or some such and also means you can throw around ET abit more.
[/ QUOTE ]
In my experience - I couldnt believe how gimped my lv 50 dm/elec was having 2 slotted end into shields.
Ive got a lv 49 & 50 brute now, so speaking from experience:
cycle 1st and 2nd tier attacks with 1 end redux each + brawl to build fury, and throw in any more powerful attacks with the end redux exchanged for recharge. KO blow and Total focus both have 18end cost according to one source, however I do have power sink on both my brutes. If u didnt have that u might need to slot total focus with an end redux. I know I did on my DOM & stalker.
Also in my experience u can make some poor slotting choices and learn to live with it, and when u respec it its like night and day; so help with the cost of toggles before u slot stuff is the best way. Power pool toggles seem to have a relatively high cost too.
It really bugged me when I 2 slotted a resist shield for end on my stalker and then found out CJ had a higher maintenance cost. -

TPing afkers from inside base.
AS a resting brute on 10hp.
AFKers, farming the badge for time spent in SC.
All pretty cheap, but things that u know are going to happen so its up to u to make sure that when they DO happen u are not the victim.
Also why should non-PvP get a say in what changes the PvP zone should have? Cant u just exploit the badge while dead?
It also could potentially mess up the bounty system if there are only 1 or 2 people in the zone, if the AFKer was doing hotspots till an enemy arrived. -
Teleport. U can move virtually unrestricted while immobilized using TP, only -fly makes u lose the hover better the TPs.

So, can you guys help me by telling me which brute secondary works great against effects?
[/ QUOTE ]
When I made my 2nd brute, after the first being /elec, I really wanted to choose a different 2ndary. I dont think I seriously considered stone, but I was interested in /inv. One of the most prolific "effects" past lv 40 is end drain and if u read a few posts about /inv u will see some people saying its unplayable with all the sappers and carnies.
There are alot of positives about /inv but that 1 negative is just something that tipped the balance for me. However, Ive not noticed any end drain in PvP; so its purely from a PvE perspective. The no1 thing I look for is resistance based in a brute 2ndary.
Id say em/inv would be good for PvP, I wouldnt take any defence based power choices but invincability has 20% ToHit which could allow u to slot EM with 2 acc and be viable for PvP. If u can deal with PvE end drain, could be a nice combo. If I were going to make another brute Id go with that too.
Dark armour does fit the description of what u asked for, good resistances to both toxic and Psi, and with combat jumping, acro (which u need for KB protection), very hard to mez (although TP is king of mez resist IMO); its lv 38 power is a rez though which is uninspiring. Also has the bonus of a +perception which might be useful stacked with tactics at getting the drop on stalkers. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
only one that needs an end reducer is invinc
[/ QUOTE ]...invinc is the lowest cost of the toggles...
[/ QUOTE ]
My post is quoting from the prima guide (although not totally reliable), what is ur source; just personal experience? Have u done any testing. Its hard to take someones word for it when there is another official source (which maybe wrong, but its best to assume its correct unless proven otherwise).
Its probably going to be easy to test for someone who has an /inv brute, if they do it methodically.
Id suggest reading my above post since that slotting seems to work well with both my dm/elec and ss/elec, lv50, lv46 respectivily. -
I slot 1 end red in my fast cycling attacks (usually 1st 2nd tier attack + brawl), I would also put 1 end into total focus. If the toggles are the same cost as /elec I would 1 slot end. Having a 20% ToHit bonus from invincibility would see me 2 slot most attacks for acc.
I wouldnt take tough hide at all, u could get combat jumping and get the same defence + more resistance to immobilize, ok its a toggle, but 3.75% defence is next to useless unless its stacking with an imaginary 40% def power (which its not). Use the lv 35 slot to pick up stun if u cant see anything better, or u could get a power pool power.
A small inspiration is 25% def - and that alone against 5 mobs on relentless would be useless - and according to prima guide its 3.75% def.
Looking at those toggles, Id 2 or 3 slot inv for end cost (says 0.208 which for a toggle is relatively high), and 0.13 is the same as /elec so I would 1 slot. Id also 2 or 3 slot tough, IMO better to slot ur end into toggles than replace something in ur attacks for end.
Also I have read that the brute fury is a percentage of the base damage of the attack (unslotted for damage), so at full fury apparently dam slotted or not, will do the same damage. However relying on fury outside a mission, is not a great idea. -
[ QUOTE ]
Hello,
thanks for all the advices. I've now taken the medicine pool into my build. The other question i have regarding my current build, are the patron powers on lvl41 and later on a good addition for my fire/elec brute? I thought about taking maybe the fighting pool with tough instead of 2 patron powers. In addition i would maybe take either taunt or lightning field since i dont have some sort of aggro holding power in my build yet. Would this be a good choice or is a patron power pool the better choice for brutes ?
[/ QUOTE ]
Im lv 46 still not taken a patron, thats not to say they are pants; just that I havent really decided yet, and can test all powers on the test server.
I would like to go for ghost widow soul gloom, since by my estimation it looks the most damaging single target attack (based on the damage figures in the prima guide), but Im finding that I like to target blasters in PvP and they usually have fly or SJ which web envelope will make it easier to bring down.
On my dm/elect brute I have web envelope, mace blast and disruptor blast, I feel that using 2 or 3 attacks with 1 draw of the mace is more efficient. I have dropped shadow maul as an area attack in favor of disruptor blast, for its ease of use (shadow maul requires dragging mobs round corners for best effect). It has a higher damage output, but with no long animation times in any of my attack powers, Im finding fury easier to get and keep.
Atm, Im filling my power selections after lv41 with my attacks from my primary. Dispite what I have read about hand clap, Im finding it very useful. Its an PBaoe disorient/knockback, combined with footstomp, great in PvE; also I tested it on a controller in RV, its disorient effects were impressive.
The other patron power I have my eye on is the AoE from mako, its toxic damage; which is great when the rest of your attacks are smashing. Also has a ranged 100% knockback as the single target attack.
Ill have to do more PvP on my dm/elec in RV to see how much I rely on the web envelope to get kills (have to foe too).
So far in my testing of Scirroco's powers Im not impressed. Power sink can wipe 75% of an enemy's endurance, and if any MU attack could do 25% then it would be very potent. However in my testing on test server, the endurance increase to ur own bar and the endurance taken from the enemies bar is negligable. I checked the combat log for the 30% chance of the effects, and when it was in the combat log - the effect on the bars was uninspiring. -
According to the prima guide, acro has 2 mag hold protection and 48% hold resistance, 100-point knockdown protection.
Ive got a lv 50 dm/elec brute and a lv 46 SS/elec brute, trust me toggle drops are part of the game; and when u understand them (Ive tried to explain in a previous post), it will make u a better player.
Often in a PvP zone I will check my toggles after Ive been attacked, and find one dropped. Check ur combat logs too.
Ive also checked my combat log after fighting a scrapper. I only knocked him down once in the fight but it was a long fight since I built up full fury and he was a regen. I knocked him down just before I beat him and when I checked the combat log it said "your brawl has dropped one of <yours opponents> toggles.
Toggle dropping was adjusted for I7, toggle dropping is real. I often do jump into a mob of 10 mobs, a 10 mag protection is sometimes not enough, but this occation has happened like once or twice across both my /elec.
However if u dont tend to jump into a 10-20 strong mob then its probably going to be u forgot ur static shield.
Oh and dont try jumping into a 10-20 strong mob with basic shields, even then u will most probably want to run behind a corner to bunch them up. On teams, some people still cant get their head around this tactic; and I despair sometimes. -
Toggle drops do happen, even with static shield. In PvP, blasters will be able to stun u through ur static shield with buildup ect. Ive had a toggle drop with malta sappers, I was using damage resist inspr/demonic aura; if 4 sappers hit u with their end drain/hold, it will hold u through static shield (even at full endurance). Therefore the sapper hold is 2.5 Mag to break ur 10Mag protection.
Freakshow stunners, will disorientate u in the same fashon. Apart from static shield, using an aid self just before a fight will increase ur protection against disorient, and knockback ect mid-fight helps indirectly. Its rare, but it does happen. A tier 9 shield adds 18 (IIRC) mez proctection, making 28Mez protection. -
