Yeah, the no Hasten thing makes me sad too. The reason I had originally decided to not take it was that I'd have to drop a Power Pool and at the time I really didn't want to drop Fitness as Hurdle+Ninja Run is my travel power nor did I want to drop Leadership as I think I got a little crazy chasing set bonuses. Looking at it now with all of your *VERY* helpful comments, it doesn't make any sense to burn a Power Pool choice and 3 power choices to justify not taking 1 power (Super Jump) in a Power Pool I'm already taking. Fitness pool, you are the weakest link, good bye. Hello Hasten!!
As for the ToHit Debuff slotting in RttC? That's there entirely for the +Max Endurance set bonus. Same with Combat Jumping. It's slotted for the +Max HP bonus. Like I said, I think I went a little crazy chasing some set bonuses.
@Iggy: Don't you mean better Defense and HP? Man, I go a little crazy chasing set bonuses and start underslotting things, then you come by and blow everything I was trying to do out of the water by getting better numbers *AND* not underslotting things. I knew I had a lot to learn but geez. >Grins<
Stelios, Iggy, Mauk, and Twilight Snow, thanks a ton for the input. I have a lot to think about now. Lucky for me, not only do I absolutely love designing (and re-designing as the case may be) builds but I have time to do so. Ginsumatic is only level 15 at the moment.
Thanks again! -
An "OK" from you Twilight means it'll be more than good enough for my uses. Good point about Tactics versus Focused Accuracy. Thanks! >Wishes he had another 7 slots to put in the build.<

Hey y'all. Long time player just now getting into making my own end game builds instead of just copying others. So if any of you have opinions one way or another on this, please let me know!!
If I calculated things correctly, this build will have a no gap AoE attack chain of Focus => Spin => Eviscerate and will be endurance sustainable without Focused Accuracy assuming .2 End/Sec for each of the 2 Performance Shifter Procs (Yeah, I know, assuming things is bad). With Focused Accuracy turned on I'll be bleeding a whole .2 End/Sec. Single target attack chains seem like they're going to bleed me at about .77 End/Sec with Focused Accuracy. (If this is wrong, let me know, I'm known to make basic math mistakes.)
As for all the rest of the numbers in the build, I'm happy with them, but I don't know if they're "good enough" to do what I want with this character. Basically, I'm looking for a character that can do everything. I'd like to be able to use this character to make Inf for all my other various projects, to be able to help out anyone having a problem with a Arc, AV, or GM. If I can solo some, if not most AVs/GMs, that'd be great too. I'm not looking for something to do ridiculous things like solo a MotITF or a double Rikti Warzone+Pylon Challenge. That's what a future alternate build will be for. >Grins< Well, enough rambling, here's the build.

Been there, done that, got the scars to prove it. Great advice.

Those look good. I might as well post mine as well.
Edit: I copied these straight out of a .txt file that I use /bindloadfile to get onto the characters I use these with. If you want to manually type them in, just add /bind in front of each line.
I changed Insert, Home and PageUp to combine everything except Purples, Break Frees and Awakens to their corresponding sized Red inspirations and then use a Red inspiration.
Delete, End and PageDown do the same thing (except it skips combining Reds) with Purples.
Insert "insp_combine Sturdy Enrage$$insp_combine Insight Enrage$$insp_combine Respite Enrage$$insp_combine Catch_a_Breath Enrage$$inspexec_name Enrage"
Home "insp_combine Rugged Focused_Rage$$insp_combine Keen_Insight Focused_Rage$$insp_combine Dramatic_Improvement Focused_Rage$$insp_combine Take_a_Breather Focused_Rage$$inspexec_name Focused_Rage"
PageUp "insp_combine Robust Righteous_Rage$$insp_combine Uncanny_Insight Righteous_Rage$$insp_combine Resurgence Righteous_Rage$$insp_combine Second_Wind Righteous_Rage$$inspexec_name Righteous_Rage"
Delete "insp_combine Sturdy Luck$$insp_combine Insight Luck$$insp_combine Respite Luck$$insp_combine Catch_a_Breath Luck$$inspexec_name Luck"
End "insp_combine Rugged Good_Luck$$insp_combine Keen_Insight Good_Luck$$insp_combine Dramatic_Improvement Good_Luck$$insp_combine Take_a_Breather Good_Luck$$inspexec_name Good_Luck"
PageDown "insp_combine Robust Phenomenal_Luck$$insp_combine Uncanny_Insight Phenomenal_Luck$$insp_combine Resurgence Phenomenal_Luck$$insp_combine Second_Wind Phenomenal_Luck$$inspexec_name Phenomenal_Luck"
I'd also heard of people using these before but I couldn't find any information on them at the time. Kudos to you to think to make a thread of this. -
Here's an updated version of my tentative build with a few things moved around focusing more on Regen and Endurance but still having 31% or higher to all non-Psychic typed defenses. What do y'all think? I think I'm light on global Accuracy but I can't seem to remember what the magic numbers for total Accuracy you want for hitting +4's.

Quote:No worries. It happens to the best of us and I'm definitely not near the best at making builds myself. >Grins< If nothing else it gave us a chance for other less experienced/knowledgeble lurkers to gaing a tidbit of hard won wisdom, eh?@Beo - you're right, I did give an older build by mistake (I've been having no small issue with getting Mid's to actually load properly post i17). The build I use does have the kinetic combats in those powers.
TBH, I'm not even sure why I said what I did, since I clearly even went for typed defenses for f/c -
Quote:Depends on the character/build. Funny thing about the build you posted is the *ONLY* time your positional Defense is even used is for purely S/L Melee attacks. Every other instance of attack uses your Typed defenses. *ALL* non-Melee attacks and any Melee attack with even a fraction of F/C/E/NE damage is going against your Typed Defense numbers because your Positional Defenses are so low.Slotting for typed defense bonuses is not nearly as efficient as slotting for positional defense bonuses.
Maybe you posted the wrong build because the Defense numbers in your build certainly are working to disprove your initial point about Positional Defenses in this case...
S/L: 17.6%
F/C: 29.2%
E/NE: 23%
Melee: 19.4% (Used *ONLY* if the attack is typed pure Smash or Lethal)
Ranged: 8.2% (Never used!)
AoE: 11.3% (Never used!)
Edit: One last thing, if you change your slotting in Haymaker and Knockout Blow over to 4 Kinetic Combats + the Mako's Bite Quad and Triple, you go to using only Typed Defenses, have *MUCH* better numbers in the attacks and all you loose is your 2 3% global damage bonuses. Here's the new +Defense numbers with just this one change...
S/L: 21.3%
F/C: 29.2%
E/NE: 23%
Melee: 18.1% (Never Used!)
Ranged: 8.2% (Never used!)
AoE: 11.3% (Never used!)
More survivability, better Acc, End, and Recharge in two of your staple attacks for the net loss of 6% global damage and .79% Damage in each power. -
Quote:Agreed. E^2 is a nice simple single target Blaster with plenty of mitigation with all of it's Knockback. 3 man spawn. Kill one with Build Up+Power Bolt+Power Blast. Kill the second on the way in with Power Bolt+Power Burt. Smack the third one away from you with Power Thrust and blast it to pieces with whatever you want.Energy? Complex? Never found it to be that all. Blast at range til KB doesn't keep the badguys away, stun them when they get close and continue with kb spam. Even learning how to maximize kb in a team isn't terribly hard or complex (even less so when faced with aoe immob spamming controllers.)
AllYourBase, if you do decide to go with E^2, Power Thrust is your "Get away from me!" bread and butter power. Don't bother slotting it, but make sure it's Accurate and you will be amazed at how much less damage it provides you. Heck, when I play a /Energy character I usually have Power Thrust on Auto-Fire until I get around to taking Hasten in the late 20's or late 30's. -
Huh. Since y'all have been helpful in the generic feel for the build, whaddya think of the build itself?

All righty. So what I'm gathering is that in terms of pure survivability, there is no point pre-softcap at which +Def isn't the best way to go with Willpower, but that it's only my killing power and speed that I will have to make sacrifices to by going all the way to the S/L/E/N softcaps. Cool. That's basically the gist of what I was trying to find out. Now I can go back to playing with Mids. Thanks everyone!
Oh, and All Hell, thanks for pointing out Dechs' spreadsheet. I saw that a while back but I had completely forgotten about it. (Edit: OK, I hadn't seen Dech's before as he just poseted it a couple weeks ago. Saw something like it before. But thanks!!!) -
Heya, just messing around with Mids for my first (soon to be) IOd 50 Willpower Brute and was wondering what a good effective baseline number to shoot for for my Defense stats in the various typed defenses would be?
I've got S/L at 24.4%, F/C at 28.4% and E/N at 32.2% I know I can get this higher but is it really all the effective to really start reaching for more +Def and start loosing some of my max HP and Regen bonuses?
Basically, where abouts does more +Def stop being a help to Willpower and start being a hiderence? Oh, I should mention my char is SS/WP/Soul but would prefer to not to need to use Darkest Night on anything except AVs and GMs.
Thanks! -

Quote:Hmmm... I wonder just how much Rage a Brute can keep generated with a good Tanker holding most, if not all, of the aggro.I completely understand what you're saying though. An IO'd brute is better than an SO'd tanker with the same powersets, but an IO'd tanker doesn't have the damage of an SO'd brute with the same powersets. I totally agree.
No, I'm serious, I'm really wondering this. I've never played in a group with a Tanker when playing any of my Brutes... -

Sorry that I have to ask this as I know I've seen the answer to this somewhere but for the life of me I can neither remember the answer nor find a thread about it again... My Search-Fu is weak tonight...
Does the 7.5% Recharge from the IO count against your limit of 5 7.5% Recharge bonuses for a build. In other words, if you had 5 Luck of the Gambler +Recharge, would you get the 7.5% Recharge from 6 slotting Mocking Beratement? -

Quote:Prolly x4 or so. Not too many Lts and Bosses are rare enough to not slow you down too badly. Minions just melt away like butter so you basically can ignore them while working on the Lts and/or Bosses.
The question was: What is quickest for mission completion, since taking too few at once hinders Fury building and actually slows things down. -
I hear ya, there are a lot of good powers in /Cold.
Personally, I took 7 of the /Cold powers, skipping only Frostworks and Snow Storm. I don't team up much with my Plant/Cold and between Seeds, Sleet, Creepers and my Fly Trap, mobs don't last long enough to cast Snow Storm. -
Quote:To put it in a slightly different wording, the game uses your highest Defense rating for any of the tags the incoming power has.The game takes your highest defense number against the ENTIRE power, with softcapped S/L defense, Bonesmasher would take the Smashing defense to see if the power would hit/miss, and if it does miss, the entire power misses, there is no half miss etc. If you had softcapped melee defense, it would do the same, which is why people recommend to stack one type of defense, typed OR positional.
Using Bonesmasher for example, the game will use your highest Defense rating for Melee, Negative Energy or Smashing. -
I never mind the price outside of the fact that I have to save up for the individual pieces as I go.
As for what I have right now in terms of Defense? Very little.I'm at 6% for Positional, 10% for Smashing/Lethal and 20%ish for Elemental. Yeah, I know. Crap.
Thanks for the input Claws. Something else to think about. I've been also playing a /SR Scrapper off and on so I think I got a little carried away with focusing on positional defense and forgot to look at the Typed defenses. Thanks! -
Hey there, long time lurker here with a quick question...
I just would like everyone's opinion on whether it's worth loosing Gloom's damage for a SS/WP Brute by slotting it with Siphon Insight for the Melee, Fire, Cold (1.88% on these 3), AoE, Smashing and Lethal Defense (3.75% on those 3) instead of Thunderstrike with it's 3.75% Defense on Ranged, Energy and Neg Energy.
I am 6 slotting Gloom and would like to use it in my attack chain, but my Defense is so low right now that I don't mind loosing DPS to gain Defense.
Also, I am in the middle of actually IOing out my first character but can only afford to do it one power at a time
Basically, do I sacrifice DPS for Defense by slotting Siphon Insight or are there better places than Gloom to find Melee and AoE Defense?
Oh, while I have you, is it worth trading out my Force Feedback: Chance for +Recharge in Footstomp to put the 6th piece of the Obliteration set into it to also get a boost to Melee, Smashing and Lethal Defense? (I've seen builds go both ways so wanted to ask about it in a specific non-contextual arena.)
Thanks in advance! -
For a secondary that will take you from 1-50 with minimal fuss and no real gaps, I'm gonna have to agree with /Willpower. Very user friendly and gives a little Def and a little more Resist added to some good healing.
It's nice ignoring Minions in a fight. Not because you have some AoEs to kill 'em off (which you probably will), but becuase they add to you're healing factor!
