  1. Inventions is the big one for me here. I largely ignore it in the beginning and mid game, but in the higher levels it became my end-game system long before the End Game System was launched. Thank you Vince, if it weren't for your creation, I probably wouldn't have been conVinced to stay with the game for as long as I have!

It's very important to me, that's for sure. If not for Mids', I may have left the game long ago.

    Peats!

I still think they should be called GREATs.

I also hijacked bAss's information on how to make decent looking Fire auras using one of the auras (Bioplasma) as a combat aura and setting the powers to use Dark Fiery in the same colours.

I'll post screenies later but I'm very happy with the changes. Ta bAss!!

  • DM/Inv if you want a ridiculous amount of survivability.

Both builds have very good high end build capability, but will cost you a lot!
  • Psst, I'll buy more character slots if you let me get more than 36 on Pinnacle.

Shield Defense is just plain fun to play! BS/SD makes a character look so complete, and by complete I mean completely badass! I have two BS/SD characters that share 99% of the same build and love playing them both, simply because of their character themes and how BS/SD performs. With that said, you won't be experiencing double stacking +Damage like you would with DM/SD or SS/SD.

My goal for my character Succubus Kali was to be as indestructible as I could possibly be without giving up too much Damage potential in the process. I think I did well for myself.

I got all of the survivability stuff I wanted - perma-capped HP, perma-Hasten, softcapped S/L/F/C/E/N Defense with 1 melee foe, almost hardcapped S/L Resist, one very large heal in situations where I don't need capped HP, and one smaller heal that is constantly topping off my HP.

For the offense part I got enough Recharge for the Smite>Siphon Life>Smite>Midnight Grasp attack chain, I was able to add in a good AoE power (Fireball) to my repertoire, and I've got nearly perma-Soul Drain (which is at the minimum 60% Damage and 12% ToHit).

Yes, she is primarily a single target destroyer but a Fireball with permanent Soul Drain on target cap is something fierce.
  • My first character on the live servers was actually Sub Zero. Hey, I like Mortal Kombat!

Anyways, the character was an Ice/Ice Blaster. I played the character for about 30ish levels and was getting kind of bored of the game. Previous to that, I never really had any altitis. I would always play one character for a very long time before making alts. I thought that before quitting the game, I'd try out some of the other ATs.

Well, that's when I made my Katana/Regen character. I remember one day when I saw someone use Integration. It was some rhino-girl character, I think. Looked perfectly in-character with that person. Yelling and thumping her chest. My Katana/Regen wasn't like that, so I asked to myself "Why do I need that power? I'll just skip it - I don't like that animation!" Hoo boy, thinking back on that is embarrassing.

  • Thanks very much for the update!

Can you make it so that Destiny powers have a slider so that we may have our stats effected by, say a Rebirth Radial Epiphany at it's strongest, at it's weakest, or somewhere in between? I for example would use it to set the power at it's weakest, so that I can gauge what kind of Regeneration I can expect permanently.

I wish you guys could fix the problem with Accolade/Incarnate toggles not loading from save files and imports. Other than that, spectacular work!

I love the pack, but I hate that blades and bow sticks are stuck in grey and purple vanguard default colours.
It should be using primary and secondary colours for the sticks too, just like the shield and riffle does it.
Why would the devs did this? Its annoying, specially when some weapons can be fully tintable, and blades sticks can not.
Keep asking for it and they might find some art time to get it done!
  • I have a hard time recommending Shadow Meld for DM/Inv as the main source of mitigation from Defense. I've got a high Recharge build and with it Shadow Meld would Recharge in ~25s, lasting only 15s. It's just not as consistent as walking up to a single enemy, corner pulling them, or what-have-you. Maybe in addition to having softcapped S/L/F/C/E/N with one melee foe but I'd rather have an AoE I can use more frequently than the Judgements, such as Fireball. A build with Dark Melee could stand to have some extra AoE.

Here's an example switching out my build that has Blaze Mastery with Soul Mastery:

As for the PB double stacking benefits, the only place I can think of where that's useful is in the Nictus Rommie fight at the end of the ITF, when he rezzes.
Even with the Status Protections, Shield Defense does it better. Not only does it have Confuse protection, it also has two more that SR does not have: Fear and Repel. Again, another set that is superior to Super Reflexes in the realm of high end builds. 4c3Player did mention they are now considering Broadsword, and that set goes very well with Shield Defense. Obviously the downfall for Shield Defense here is that it does not get to be paired with some primary sets. I am curious to know if a Katana/SR or a BS/SD would do more damage, in both AoE and ST.

Another Defense set that we don't even have yet is Ninjitsu, and that too has Confuse and Fear protection.
  • Which way are you looking to tweak it? I have a build that I've made for Flame Reaver, which is Smashing/Lethal Defense softcapped but with less Recharge. My plan is to use the Ageless Destiny as well for +Recharge/+Recovery. I like all the Damage Spines/Fire does, but there's no reason that I can't have a little more mitigation against the harder targets that don't melt under my AoEs. That's just my playstyle, maybe the build will suit you, maybe not. In any case, hopefully it gives you some ideas.

No HP/Endurance Accolades for the character? The third slot in Build Up is essentially doing nothing.

  • I actually made the Tank version of my current DM/Inv build. Take a look for some ideas if you want, Werner: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=257596
  • It's been a while since I've played Katana, thanks for the touch up Werner. I had a feeling I picked the wrong power between the T1 and T2 primary.

Looking at that SR build, it's hard for me to recommend SR for an infinite Inf top build. It doesn't have any worthwhile Resist (yes, I know about Scaling Resists), it isn't HP capped, and will get less HP/sec with Rebirth Radial Epiphany than a perma-HP capped Invulnerability. The only reason I'd go with SR on a top tier build is because of character theme. I'm not poo pooing on your build, but I think that SR could definitely have a better high end build standing.
  • Expensive as I've mentioned earlier, but oh the things you could do with that build!

My best advise, though, is worry about S/L def first, E/N second and F/C if you can. Assuming you don't gimp your build doing this.
It's definitely possible. Here's one with Katana/Invulnerability. Not saying if would fit 4c3Player's playstyle or probably even mine, but it can serve as an example. One application of Divine Avalanche puts the character at Melee softcapped Defense as well, though for that to be of any worth the damage type would have to be Psionic, and I don't know of very many that are tagged Melee as well.

I'm hoping actually that the next Incarnate slots do less to homogenize ATs like the current slots do. Something to differentiate the Melee ATs from each other, for example. Especially Brute/Scrapper.
