  1. I don't want to give into unwarranted bashing of Jack, but the fact is that the whole world outside of CoH insiders thinks he's a genius for one reason: He has a 100% success rate for the MMOs that he has published.

The problem is that it's the entire outside world which is being profoundly stupid in not realizing that he only published one MMO. They might count it as two because CoV was a 'stanshalone'. But even if they do count CoV as a second MMO, then they're being profoundly stupid because it was not nearly as popular as CoH. We just had Brian Clayton say in an interview that less than 30% of the CoH/V playerbase play villains. With those numbers, if CoV was a true standalone, it would be counted as a failure (WRT number of subs, not WRT the value of the design).

So, Jack is a golden boy simply because he's not had any failures. Despite the fact that he couldn't bring Marvel Universe Online to market. Or that after acquiring the Champions Universe IP so as to be wholly independent, including publishing CO by themselves, they then needed to farm out their production to a third part server-provider. And then had to be bought out by Atari... not the Atari of the past, but some current not-very-respected company that bought the Atari name for branding purposes. Or that CO has been delayed twice and the much touted goal of CO being available via the Xbox console as well as the PC looks very iffy at this point.

The outside world thinks that whatever Cryptic does will be exceptionally good and wildly accepted simply because of that track record of one for one. The majority of MMOs bust. One should expect new ones to bust, just because of the poor odds of succeeding. To expect a new MMO, whether created by Cryptic or Paragon or Blizzard, to succeed just because of their track record in the past is stupid. The best you can say is that the experience of putting out a successful product in the past makes them less likely to fail in the future... not practically guarantee them to succeed.

When there are less then 10 very successful MMOs on the market and you come up with a list of the 20 most influential people in the MMO world, then you're pretty stupid. And if you include Jack because of a streak of one success, then you're pretty stupid.

The only way I found is to join a team of the appropriate level and get exemplared down to their level. Try broadcasting your desired on your server Badge Channel.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You don't even have to be exemplared. Just have the lowbie start the mission with you on the team. Then you can go in, one-shot the Villain, find the exploration badge, do all the side missions (and get the temp power if you get to the clickie first). Everyone who hasn't gotten the special reward will get it upon mission completion. Of course, no xp or prestige, but you'll get the other rewards and badges.
  3. Not on your own. Unless you have a second account and 'dual-box.'

You can solicit the help of another player to help you, but, there is risk they'll keep the influence. If I were to take such a risk, I'd use someone from a global channel who is well known by the other members of the channel and make the transfer publicly known in the that channel so that peer pressure keeps them honest.

Or, another risky proposition is to use the market.

So.... how IS the new TF? Is it fun?

How does it stack up compared to the ITF?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It needs some work. It is Beta, after all.

Leave your scooping in the Culture forum. Most people don't check there and would never have seen this otherwise.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's just a shorthand way to say, "There's already a thread on this and here's the link."

If several threads go on about a subject, some are just going to get locked anyway. So, it's a good idea to keep it in one thread, whichever one started first.

    Anything there look juicy?

I thought I disabled the Google Thingy on startup, but maybe it's enabled itself.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The evil Google toolbar keeps reinstalling GoogleUpdater. Any google app will install it without permission. I just wrestled with a GoogleUpdater file that kept reappearing even though I removed it through the Task Manager, MSConfig, and windows services manager! I had to physically delete the .exe and .msi files to stop that from happening.

Right now, I consider MicroSoft to be less evil than Google.

    Consider that carefully.

Mark my words, within two years, there will be a Federal investigation of Google that will pale in comparison to the anti-trust cases against M$.

Well yeah, but BI refuses to take darkest night on a dark defender (due to the aggro it draws), so skipping the AOE immbo and/or hotfeet and/or fulcrum shift seems about par for the course.

All of which are of course huge aggro magnets.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    <whimper>

    No Darkest Night?

That's how a Dark Defender (with SuperSpeed) herds a room onto a corner Tar Patch. Fluffy jumps out yelling "who's on mah tar patch, [censored]!" adding his Darkest Night and tentacles. Now that the there's about 70% -ToHit on the crowd, the Defender appears around the corner, Fears them for another -25% ToHit and stacks Tar Patch for -60% Damage Resistance and whittles their hp ways with whatever AoE attacks they have cycling in the single target attacks for the bosses.

Aww man I didn't know so many others loved the good white wheat like me

    http://www.wonderbread.com/images/pr...GrainWhite.jpg

    [/ QUOTE ]

When I first saw this, I thought that this was typical marketing nonsense where they bleached all the goodness out of whole wheat bread so that they can have the healthy sounding name, but the same pasty doughy pre-digested 'goodness' of white breads that Americans so enjoy.

    But this article says otherwise.

Still, next time I'm at the market, I'm gonna compare the fiber content of 'whole wheat white bread' with traditional whole wheat breads and see if it measures up nutritionally.

Whenever I bring up merits and buying LotG anywhere people always tell me to just go for the rare recipe roll (only 20 merits, yup, 1 zero), so I ran an ITF with my 50 a few days ago, had a little over 20merits on him and went "meh, im impatient, rather than grinding out itf's I'll take the roll", first recipe, LotG +recharge . (2nd was a Mako's Bite: Chance for Lethal). Supposedly the majority of rare rolls you take at 50 will be good moneymakers on WW if you don't want them, then you'll get up inf for buying the specifics you want off the market.

I've just recently started paying attention to the merit reward vendors, after randomly digging through it while broke and find a performance shifter:chance for +end in it instead of the mils on WW. So the only thing I can confirm from my experience is the awesome drops of a rare roll as compared to saving up and choosing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now that the rare recipe rolls (Rare Merit roll and Golden Ticket roll) are 'weighted' toward the more used recipes, rolling for rares is is a good thing. The exception would be if you're creating a build that will be exemplaring often and you specifically want the lowest level or a particular level of recipe; then the best thing would be to buy that specific level of recipe with Merits.

    Midnighter club

Numina must love seeing that skull every time she enters the club.

"Hi, Dad! Sorry we didn't give you a decent burial. But I hope this means you'll become a restless spirit like myself living between two worlds with no chance for eternal peace or contentment."
  11. Maybe because there are a boatload of computer games called 'rogue' and 'going rogue' was a more distinctive brand and less litigious?
  12. If you don't want to try Safe Mode, then chose Windowed mode and then maximize the screen. That's the most stable resolution setting. Then, turn every other graphics FX off or down as low it can go. And see if there's any crashing. If not, then one of those settings is the culprit.

WRT cleaning out the computer: You killed a lot of the running processes, but there are still a boat load of other processes running in the background: Windows Live; Windows sidebar; Groove Monitor; Acrobat updater; Java helper and updater; HP updater; Google helpers; Yahoo helpers; searchers; downloaders; web cam; skype; dvd helper; Flash (macrovision); etc... Do you remember giving permission to any of these programs to start themselves up whenever you boot up your computer? Because, that's what they're doing. High-end PC gaming is usually inimical to background processes. Check out: http://www.pchell.com/support/hijackthistutorial.shtml

This is what my very clean start up registry looks like:

That's how well-behaved and non-aggressive programs are supposed to work: run when called, unload when ended. And I have no problems running flash or java or my video or audio or acrobat, etc...

You're speaking Zeldan again. Try English.
  14. You've tried new Audio drivers, now try with the audio device disconnected as was suggested. If that doesn't work...

Try running in Safe Mode and see if they're any crashes. If that doesn't work...

Try cleaning out all the stuff you have running in the background. You have *a lot* of aggressiveware running in the background. Some that access the GPU and some the Internet. Neither is good when running a MMO.

DV didn't resurrect this thread, it did it itself somehow.

    Spontaneous zombification for the win.

I've heard necrothreading is easy if you reply to something old and delete your post the moment it's posted.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Of course, the boards log who posted and who deleted their post. They're not hiding anything. And I hope they get a good ban since, by deleting the post, they show they know what they did is wrong and so, they *intentionally* broke forum policy.
  16. If they do it once, I ;wave and move to a new group.

If they follow, and they're within a few levels of me, then I play a new game: Get the kill-stealer killed through over-agro.

    Guide Etiquette

    [ QUOTE ]
I am working on a list of Player Types in General Discussion.

It's gotten quite large, and I'm thinking it might be appropriate to post it here.

I've never written anything I would call a guide before, and I don't want to be presumptuous, so what's the protocol? Should a person have some certain level of experience to post a "guide"? Or just post, and if it's not appropriate for the Guides section, people will "provide guidance"?

Also, it looks to me you handle updates by editing the first post as long as you can, then reposting as much as is needed in the same thread. If you make significant revisions, then you start a new thread with a new version, etc. Is that about right?

    Thanks!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Posting a guide here will ensure it doesn't get aged out, so, post it here. Also post it at the tail end of the Guide to Guide thread, a lot of people follow that thread as a marked favorite.

I've been waiting for forum migration to update the Guide to Guides and that's coming.... sometime.
  18. Your graphics driver is a year old and you have too much stuff running in the background. You would do well to save your data, reformat your drive, reinstall Windows and your programs keeping an eye on the HijackThis reports to keep track of which programs are aggressively installing themselves in the start-up registries.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
    He strongly advise it.

But Twilight son does the same for Smoke and Mirror and it passes easily with a Shivan.

What I did is to clear the map up to the last room, then run with my guys in a corner and use my Orouboros portal to leave them behind.

This way, I was able to clear the room fairly easily.
Now, my problem is the ambushes...
I was able to pull Vandal... I got killed quickly but I am going to try again, in the hope to pull him to the other side and take him down there.

If it works; I will probably try doing the same with Maestro.

I would probably have a much easier and quicker time recruiting a team, I know. But, now... IT'S PERSONAL!

    [/ QUOTE ]

You could leave behind your allies in the corridor which goes around to the right of the main battle hall by use of the Oportal. Then run back in, go left, clear the minions, and then pull the EBs... back down to the corridor to the left where your allies are still waiting to help you. Oportal and repeat with the next EB.
  20. No matter how good the forum software, there's no way they can filter out annoyingly uninformative thread titles like this thread has.
  21. I created a new space on the Wiki for known issues that we long time players all know about but never make it to the official known issues list.

To be fair, any MMO has a freakin' huge list of known issues. The Devs put up a 'short list' of those things they hear about *a lot* and want to assure us that they know that we know there's a bug. This official short list is very often a prioritized list of those things they intend to fix immediately (even if 'immediately' means several months to hunt down and determine how to fix the bug).

But, there is no more comprehensive list, especially of the lower priority bugs which new players ask about about once a month but have been around forever.

So, go to http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Known_Issues and check it out. Anyone is welcome to add to the list, or, if you're afraid of Wiki editing, post your known issues here and I'll add them to the Wiki.

Please *do not* use it as a place to add wish lists which are not bugs, nor to criticize things you don't like about the game nor Dev decisions you don't like.

Also, please do not add in any occasional oddity which may not be a bug, but perhaps a problem with your graphics card, or an oddity caused by a fluke desynchronization with the server. Just the old time, every time bugs to which we all say, "yeah, that's been around for a while, or, since the last issue."
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Hmm. yeah.. but the content looks the same to me.

  23. On the main website, clicking on Known Issues takes one to: http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/kno..._build_19.html, which is the Known Issues for the Beta build.

It should take one to http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/known_issues/ which lists the known issues for the Live and Test clients.
