    New smilies?

I thought this was new *similes*.

If it were, it would be like a check in the mail!

Grandville was broken into four islands now known as Cap Au Diable, Port Oakes, Bloody Bay, and Grandville.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You know what's sillier than an island being broken into four islands by a volcanic explosion?

    1. Two of those 'islands' are in fact *not* two separate islands, but are together still as one island.

    2. Two completely different islands somehow leapt into the open waters in between the now fragmented islands.

    See here.

  3. I did notice your thread title was uninformative of the content of your thread which is noticeably bad netiquette.

Ok, so I am a long time follower of the game but have had to cancel subscription a few times for numerous reasons. Recently I returned after a long absence and have experienced the new Mission Architect stuff, which I beleive is revolutionary and certainly innovative to MMO's.

Luckily for me, I am one of those players that likes to be superinformed about stuff, so I read threads about AT's/builds before I start one, etc. I like to be knowledgeable about what I am doing.

However, I have yet to experience anything IN_GAME that would tell me whether I am doing something wrong or not when it comes to AE content and farming. Most players never touch the forums, so I am wondering what the criteria is for farming/banning??

FOr example, I'd been leveling a scrapper and had gotten a bit bored of the usual mission/questing so I decided to try out some of the lowbie AE content. I found an arc that once you rescue an ally, they cast Accelerate Metanolism on you. For a low level character, this is a huge benefit, especially for a scrapper that has longer recharge times like mine does ( BS/SD ). This arc, while semi-boring, definitely upped the pace of lowbie leveling. by having an ally that buffs and helps a bit.

So, i enjoyed this arc because it's helping me tolerate some of those painful dull early levels where half of your time is spent smacking someone with a single slotted brawl... I enjoyed it so much that I played it several times.

Now I finally get to my question: is this farming? Is it any worse than farming a sewer mission over and over? And is this the sort of thing that will get you banned?

I didn't find anything blatantly wrong with the arc, there was always the risk of me dying if I pulled to many, etc. ( low risk, but still a risk). It was just much more convenient that lowbie leveling normally is. Is that wrong?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Unless it's obvious to you that the mission is giving incredibly huge rewards for easy kills leveling you 10 times faster than you'd ever would in any other normal situation or 10 times the rewards any reasonable person would think they would be getting compared to the rest of the game; then you're not going to be in trouble. Even if you play that mission over and over again.

The person who made that mission may find the mission getting flagged and yanked if there was no story to it, and the contact said, "wuh?" and the mission description said "oink oink here" and you get a Rikti Guardian ally for no reason to kill a map of nothing but easy-to-kill custom bosses inexplicably guarding exploding cars. It's obvious, then, the mission was made for farming and not to create a real mission or tell a real story. And if such a player continued to create such missions after being warned, then that player would be trouble.

    Dead emotes

    [ QUOTE ]
I don't think I've ever said anything is "hard" to do or even intentionally implied it. Challenging isn't really a factor for 99% of the stuff we do. Instead, it really boils down to time, available manpower, and prioritizing what's needed over what's desired or what we think will have the biggest impact on the game over what will appease the vocal minority.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I guess "hard" in this case is what the system can and cannot do, then I suppose there's little you guys CAN'T make it do with enough work, so I see what you mean.

While you're here, though, how about it? Is it even possible for dead characters to perform emotes without having to rewrite core systems?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Absolutely possible, and absolutely inappropriate to be doing so.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not even give them the Flies Aura?
  6. [ QUOTE ]
So they can have their name attached to a published game?

  7. Next time you level up to 40, copy that character to the Test server four times and try out all four Patron Arcs.

Futher questions - during normal play, is the chance 10% for any MOB conning green or higher?

Also, do Rikti Monkeys, Rikti Drones, and summoned Rikti have that same 10% chance to drop a merit on you?

Lastly, shouldn't the OP have at least received a merit at the completion of each mission, or do those only go to the mission holder?

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you can get XP, you can get drops.

IIRC, if it's a boss that's grey without the down arrows in the Target window, then no xp.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There are some grey lts and bosses that still give a little bit of XP, but, since they're grey... no drops.

Conning green or better is what drops are tied to.
  9. Here are reasons *why* moderator/GM actions are not allowed to be discussed on this forum and the overwhelming majority of forums:

    1. The officials taking official action can not publicly denounce a person and lay out all the things they did wrong and all the warnings they ignored. Whether rightly or wrongly, they'd be sued for defamation. They can not trash a person to justify their case. They just can't. Which puts them into a bind because...

    2. When a player wants to discuss moderator actions, they're looking to 'try' the case publicly. But if the mods can't defend their actions publicly (see point 1 above), then they will always lose such public trials, even if they're in the right.

    3. People who have no business in this matter get involved: Friends of the person who had an action against them; people who have an axe to grind against the mods/devs for some other reason and all of a sudden they become a champion of justice for someone they don't know and over a case of which they have no facts; and those who are simply anarchists and are willing to 'take the man down a peg or two' so they can do whatever they want without consequences. There would never be any satisfying answer given to these people, even if the mods/devs were allowed to explain their side fully.

Actually, when someone starts trashing a mod/GM/dev for taking unfair actions and they have no real basis (or even the facts of the matter) to make those claims, I'd like to see them get slapped with a defamation suit instead of simply having their thread deleted. Then maybe we'd see people be a bit more understanding why the mods/GMs/Devs can't divulge the details of the censures they enact.

    Macro question

/macro TP "say You know, $target, you're such a moron, you're supposed to be *here*!$$powexec_name Recall Friend"

Everyone appreciates a TP from a teammate.
  11. Tidbits:

    1. The turrets respawn on a 5 minute timer.

    2. Bloody Bay has inspiration vendors. Use them.

    3. The best insp load for squishies v. EBs is three to four defense, one break free, and the rest damage. Really, popping six damage allows you to take down the EB within the minute of protection you get from the defense insps. Oh, and make sure you're on diff level 1.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
To load the macro file, type into your chat window the name of the file. If it is in the "Data" folder, all you need is the file name. You can create a new folder in your "Data" folder like "Keybinds"; then you need to enter the relative path from "Data", like "Keybinds\macros.txt". If you use a folder other than one inside the "Data" folder, you need to enter the full path, like "c:\Binds\Tanker\macros.txt" (all of these should be entered without the quotation marks).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't you mean to load the file with the /bindloadfile command? Or are you saying that if a file, such as macros.txt is in the Data folder, all I have to do is type "macros.txt" and it automatically loads?
  13. It's better now than it used to be.

They're less likely to get stuck. They're more likely to get unstuck. There are auto-tp powers at the 'bottom' of many maps so that those who fall all the way out get popped back in. And finally, they gave us the 'drop mission' power on a 3 day cool down so that we can do our own GM solution to the problem.

Of course, you could always stock up on the Warburg nuclear missile, it's AoE damage kills wall huggers dead.

    Quick question

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I believe procs are only effective when placed in powers that have to be activated. I don't think the chance will ever happen if you place it in Stamina as that is an auto power.

[/ QUOTE ]You think wrong. In fact, the Performance Shifter proc is most effective in Stamina and Quick Recovery, and on average, is better than a 3rd endmod enhancement in Stamina.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This. If you're only going to give Stamina 3 slots, then make it 2X Level 50 EndMod and one Performance Shifter +End.

If you can spare a fourth slot, go with the Performance Shifter set and pick up IO bonuses.

    Stamina unslotted: 25% Recovery
    Stamina +1 lev50 EndMod IO: 35.6% Recovery
    Stamina +2 lev50 EndMod IO: 45.8% Recovery
    Stamina +3 lev50 EndMod IO: 49.8% Recovery
    Stamina +4 lev50 EndMod IO: 51.4% Recovery

The first two EndMods increased Recovery by 10%, the third by only 4%, and the fourth by less than 2%.

The +End proc in Stamina is the equivalent, on average, of 12% extra recovery, so it's just slightly better than the first two level 50 IO and a lot better than the third.

    The Perfomance Shifter Set:
    EndMod
    EndMod/Rech
    EndMod/Acc
    Chance for +End

gives 47.9% Recovery + the average 12% from the Proc for just about 60% Recovery. Plus you get the IO bonus of another 2.5% Recovery plus 1.87% HP plus 5% movement speed increase.
  15. I thought BAB fixed that a long time ago. It needs to be /bugged then, again.

Lighthouse, a Community Relations Manager at NCSoft (a redname) posted this message in the official forums:

We wanted to make people aware that using the Consignment Markets as a means to transfer influence or infamy between characters is not an intended use. If you attempt to do such a transfer and someone else buys your item, or the item is sold to someone else, please know that this is an issue our Customer Support Team will not assist you with. Our apologies, but the Consignment Markets are designed to enable the games economy, not to make transfers between characters. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Does this mean we're not allowed to use the Market to transfer to ourselves, or just that if we lose Inf doing it, tough luck?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Tough luck.
  18. When you include the time it takes to get the satellite missiles and the EB level pets, you're really not saving a lot of time, if any at all.

The only way I found is to join a team of the appropriate level and get exemplared down to their level. Try broadcasting your desired on your server Badge Channel.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You don't even have to be exemplared. Just have the lowbie start the mission with you on the team. Then you can go in, one-shot the Villain, find the exploration badge, do all the side missions (and get the temp power if you get to the clickie first). Everyone who hasn't gotten the special reward will get it upon mission completion. Of course, no xp or prestige, but you'll get the other rewards and badges.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you get the weapons deal side mission, be sure to exemp down and wait about a minute before clicking on the glowie. Otherwise you don't get the temp power for the side mission. (Oh, and make sure the mission owner doesn't mind you doing the click, since only the person who clicks the glowie gets the temp power).

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Hunh, didn't know that. Thanks.
  21. When people talk of Jack's 'vision' for CoH, what exactly do they mean by that except a Supers-based MMORPG?

Jack comes from a degree in mythological studies and being a comic book fan and the pen and paper RPG world where he was a fan of Champions RPG. He had no background in MMOs. The first attempts at game mechanics which tried to copy the HERO system used by Champions in allowing one to 'buy' disparate powers failed because players couldn't be counted on to not gimp themselves or all create the same min-maxed tank-mage. And so they went with the ArcheType system. His mechanical vision flopped and was reconstructed through trial and error and falling back on class-based (D&D) gaming mechanics.

So, what about the game-world? Well, just as most fantasy based games are a rip-off (or, homage, depending on your point of view) of the Tolkien turned D&D world; CoH is a rip-off/homage of the Champions universe. White all-American super-patriot invulnerable tank as leader of the good guys? Check. Germanic uber-nemesis? Check. World in turmoil being rebuilt from catastrophe? Check. Slap on Greek mythology and you're done.

Once you have a design team and the powers guys and the artists in place, then how much is really Jack's vision being enacted and how much is the work of other game designers, writers, and programmers who are more familiar with the MMO world? Matt Miller came from the EQ world and was much more qualified to lead a MMO team than Jack, just given their backgrounds. No wonder Matt rose so quickly through the ranks to become the lead designer even while Jack was still around.

Just as the outside world assumed Jack was a wunderkind for his successful streak of one hit, they also assume all the good parts for CoH were his idea, rather than possibly the work of a more qualified team that was working on the same project. Those of us who've been around have seen him horribly defend really bad ideas and to implement in a really bad ways some good ideas. Yes, he also enacted well and talked well about and implemented well some good ideas. But we who have seen the dark side laugh at the untarnished lionization of his career made by the outsiders looking in. Thus the immense eye-rolling by some of us at the title of 'most influential' in the MMO world.
