Hello!
This keeps happening to me since I've come back to the game - I'll all of a sudden quit group without physically clicking on the QUIT option. Now, I see there's a host of new chat-oriented bugs so was wondering if this was one of them? And, if so, what exactly is the key combo so I can avoid it?
[/ QUOTE ]
Type in the command line of chat: /bindsave. Then go to you CoH directory and open the file keybinds.txt in Notepad. Highlight it all (CTRL+A), copy it (CTRL+C), and then paste it here (CTRL+V) so we can see what your binds are. -

[*]HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format > Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.

You can Google ATI or your computer manufacturer for updated drivers. Meanwhile..

Thinking about nuking my hard drive and starting over.
[/ QUOTE ]
Absolutely the right way to go. Your registry got hammered with extraneous stuff. Make sure you have a Windows install disk. Then back up data. Then reformat the hard drive. Then reinstall Windows, your programs and your data. As you install programs, keep running HijackThis after each install and see what each program is doing to your start up registry. Nuke the aggressive ones that install without your permission. A well behaved program does not run in the background at all. It loads when you start it. Then completely unloads when you exit it.
See here for understanding the HijackThis report.
Actually, for older machines, the above process does wonders to speed everything up in the game! -

funny enough, no one of you supposed to be anglo americans
specified where 'Mob' comes from, to a good 20% non english natives in this game.
ok, here comes the french crazy dude again for the non US/anglos:
Mob come from 'Mobsters' aka, the gun carriers for the mafia, meaning, the 'gang'.
[/ QUOTE ]
Uhhh.... no. They other way around.
Mob comes from the vulgate Latin mobile, which means '(the) movable (ones)'. That is, a crowd easily swayed into action, just fickle commoners.
Then the word 'mob' gets applied to the 'gang' controlled by organized crime. The -ster suffixed gets applied to make the word even more derogatory. -
Salvage has 3 level tiers. If you need a low level salvage, then you need a low level foe to drop it. If you are a much higher level than the foe, it will 'con grey' and won't give you any drops.
So, if you're out of that range, you have two choice:
1. Just play the game at your level and then sell the salvage you get and buy the ones you want at the Market.
2. Play Mission Architect missions and use the ticket drops to buy the salvage you need. For the common salvage, you'll have to 'roll' for random ones at the right level tier and type (Arcane or Tech). The uncommon and rare ones you can buy specifically at the Ticket Vendor. -

For subjects which are of specific importance to the devs (ie: your farming thread example), what benefit is gained from having multiple threads?
It's just like having multiple pages, except
each page is harder to find and
you're guaranteed to get repetition,
rather than just a strong likelihood.
[/ QUOTE ]
This!
And it corrects the breach of the rules, which tells us we are to ...
SEARCH first, and
Post in the OTHER threads about the topic,
rather than start [u]yet another[u] thread on the same topic.
People who start multiple threads are either ignorant or insane. They <ul type="square">[*]are inept, or ignorant of the existing topic, because they did not search.
This would mean they haven't already read the background or discussions that are already there.[*]or they are simply trying to reset the discussion, hoping that this time they can get the outcome to match their desired opinion.
and you know, . . . doing the same thing over and over and over, hoping to get a different result? insanity.[/list].

We need a rant forum.
And when you click on a new rant thread in the rant forum, it automatically adds the OP onto your ignore list. -

Considering the entire point of "tl;dr" is to be obnoxious, one wonders what other acronyms fulfill this role. For educational purposes only, of course.

Well, not those exactly, but the ones that come after them alphabetically in the four letter and three letter acronym lists. There's also a two letter one of which I am sure you can guess. -
I use 'foe/foes' for simplicity.
I believe 'mob' is just too confusing because of multiple meanings.
Even for the MMO Illuminati who use mob ' ' correctly ' ', what do you think is meant by 'a mob boss'? A boss level mobile object? Or a boss who's part of the Family faction?
Are the immobile snipers not mobs since they're not mobile?
And when our own Devs, some of whom come from the old MUD/EQ world don't use 'mob' to mean 'mobile object', well that should tell you something about the efficacy of that term.
And so, I, too, think 'mob' should be defecated.
What? It's not an 'f'? -

They don't enforce rules about avatar file size as it is. Most recently came across a 2.2MB avatar, not bad for you all with broadband but I'm still on dial-up. Fortunately only need to find them once and then BAM, Adblock Plus.

eh, I report them

I just got a Dell Studio 17 and am having trouble with CoH. When I try to type my login, I sometimes can't even type my password. All other programs seem to be fine. Any thoughts?

Sometimes tabbing to the password field does nothing. Click on the field and make sure you have a blinking cursor before typing. -
Just for future reference.
1. Go to Port Oakes when you hit 5+ish.
2. A broker will automatically appear in your Contact Window (Mikey or Drea).
3. Physically go to the broker. This will unlock the Newspaper.
4. The Newspaper will automatically appear in your Contact Window. Click it to get a choice of one of three 'Schemes.'
5. When you do a 'Scheme', it will fill up the confidence bar of the broker of that zone (for Port Oakes, 3 schemes will fill the bar for Mikey or Drea).
6. When their bar is full, the Newspaper won't give you any more Schemes, but you'll be told to see your broker.
7. Go to your broker who will give you a Mayhem mission (bank robbery).
8. Doing a mayhem mission against a particular bank (Atlas Bank, Founders Bank, etc...) successfully will give you a one-time temp power. Side missions may give you added bonuses. Whether you succeed or fail the Mayhem mission, your broker will give you a new contact for your level.

Hello, email worm, O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Runonce] C:\Windows\system32\runouce.exe.
Although, I wouldn't go through the bother of trying to weed it out. Save your data. Make sure you have an Windows install CD. Format the hard drive. Reinstall Windows and programs and data, and as you do so, keep running HijackThis and watch which programs are aggressively adding themselves to your start up directories and stop the ones that shouldn't be. See here to understand the HijackThis report. -
Wait, the enemy isn't using the same make and model of the weapons I'm using? That's unfair! I quit the Army!
