    Fatal Error:
./piggs/soundPowers.pigg: Bad flag on file - not a Pig file-1

Your data might be corrupt, please run the patcher and try again

    [/ QUOTE ]
Happens when I try to run covupdater--rebooting solves the issue for a good while, then it always comes back eventually. Once I get the error, it happens every time I launch CoH until I reboot the PC.

File verification detects no problem. The first time I got it, I tried replacing soundPowers.pigg from my cohtest folder, but when I launched the game, I got the same error message about a different pigg file.

I couldn't find anything on this error via google, so I'm wondering if anyone else has gotten this problem, or knows anything about what could be causing it.

EDIT: This has been happening since April at least.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Let's delete it and force it to be rewritten elsewhere. on the hard drive rather than the spot. So, go ahead and delete the file /piggs/soundPowers.pigg. Then...

    1. Go to control panel and then Add/Remove Programs and get rid of any programs you don't need any more.

    2. Go into Windows Explorer (not the Internet Explorer) and right click on your C: drive and chose Properties. Under the General Tab, you'll see a button for Disk Cleanup, run it and get rid of deleted (recycle bin) and temp files.

    3. Under the General Tab, make sure Indexing is not selected. Unless you need to do quick searches of your documents on a regular basis, you don't need this. It may take a while to propagate the un-indexing to all the sub-folders.

    4. Go to the Tools Tab and click on the defrag button. Run the defragger. It may take an hour or two to defrag. Make sure the computer doesn't power down during it (you'll find power options where you change the screen saver -- right click on desktop...).

OK. Now go into the CoH directory and delete checksum.coh. Reboot the computer. Start up CoH and let it go through the verify process.

    See if that works.
  2. On a Lady Grey TF, when Penny was rescued, she conned as a hostile!
  3. Use Mid's planner to plan a respec. You get the real numbers as pop ups and lots of other nifty stats.

    http://www.cohplanner.com/
  4. Super Science change in model, temp Halloween costume powers, Darren Wade's 'Visage' power, the Heal-the-Lost Wand, and the transformation of Romulus in the ITF are all the same technology that Dr. Mechano mentions. The old model is completely removed and a new model is swapped into it's place.

When it's buggy, you can see the two models at the same time, or you can see the first model leave a teleport-away streak.

Other costume changes, OTOH, where the base model is the same, you then keep the model and the clothing pieces swap out.

Why is everyone surprised that older machines can run things. It's long been my experience that when you upgrade a computer, yeah you see more shinies, but it is usually less reliable.

A pentium 4 or Athlon 3000+; 2 GB RAM; and a 6600 Nvidia card or better is all you need for medium quality gfx at a fair fps. And that's just fine.

The comments in this thread is because the OP let an old machine get so... rusted. A little cleaning and it will be fine.

If you took SuperSpeed, you also have some Stealth.

As an alternative to Stealth, you can use temp Phase powers to run past foes. They'll take pot shots at you (which won't hit) as you run past, but they won't follow if keep moving. Warburg patrol mission provide phase and there is the temp phase power, Ethereal Shift, on the Market.

    CoH Locking up

I'm surprised CoH runs on your computer, let alone locks up occasionally. You have way too many background programs and services running.

Check this out to understand your HijackThis report: http://www.pchell.com/support/hijackthistutorial.shtml

And look through your HijackThis report. Those are all programs/services which have insinuated themselves into your computer's start-up routine.

A well-behaved program starts when you call for it, and takes itself out of the system when it ends. When they put themselves into your start-up, especially without your permission or warning, then they are aggressive programs and not much better than malware.

Now, some of them should be loaded upon start up, like the anti-virus program (although, do you have two firewalls running? Namely, C:\Program Files\Sygate\SPF\smc.exe and C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NetworkAccessManager\bin\nSvcIp.exe? Usually, just the firewall on the router's hardware is sufficient and never more than one software firewall). Most should be disabled.

Now, you have two choices to clean this all up: Surgery or Rebirth.

The surgical route is to go through everything shutting off what doesn't need to be run on start-up.

Go to your Start Menu > Run > type in msconfig and hit Enter. In the Start-up Tab, uncheck all the programs that don't need to be started up when booting. In the Services Tab, check 'hide Microsoft Service' and then uncheck the services that don't need to be started up when booting. Then Reboot.

    Further cleaning includes:

Recheck the HijackThis log to see how you're doing on cleaning up the start-up registries. Google anything you don't know what it is or how to get rid of.

That's the Surgical approach. The Rebirth is simpler:

    1. Back up all data.

    2. Make sure you have a Windows OS install disk.

    3. Reformat the hard drive.

    4. Reinstall Windows.

    5. Reinstall your programs and keep running HijackThis to catch which ones are taking over your start-up routine.

    6. Reinstall data.

And if it's not in the patch note, then rest assured... IT'S NOT FIXED YET.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not necessarily. How many times are there "stealth" nerfs or fixes?

    [/ QUOTE ]

You know quite well this was directed at those who bring up the same my-pet-peeve-isn't-fixed-yet-so-let-me-'innocently'-ask-if-it's-been-'accidentally'-left-out-of-the-patch-notes post.

If a Dev said, "a fix is in the next patch" and it doesn't show, than an inquiry is justified.

If there's been no promise of a fix coming right away and people ask "is this a mistake in the patch notes?", then the insincerity of the question is obvious.

I have more respect for those who lobby and are obvious about it, such as "And still no fix for X!" then those who pretend at a concern for the integrity of the patch notes.

Those who do it know who they are, it's rather quite obvious since they're not fooling anyone.

With regard to actual problems with the patching process, I'm sure the Devs are well aware of my own dissatisfaction with missing and wrong patch notes in the past two Issues. I recognize there's currently a backsliding in their internal controls, but for players to use that as a thinly veiled opportunity to lobby for their personal pet peeve to be fixed is rather transparent.

I read Patch Notes threads to find out what they are and for players' feedback as to whether they're correct or not. Not listen to whines for what's not in them. Those posts do a disservice to all players since they discourage the Devs themselves from reading Patch Notes threads.

For 20 minutes out of every 3 hours.
If you get near the large crowds gathered together to fight the Rikti.

Now, can you think of ways of avoiding that situation if you chose to?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I cannot imagine what Cap and Atlas Park are going to be like with the AE and invasion populations at the same time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I only get Rikti Invasion Lag when I'm within drawing range of the big crowd. E.g., while a huge laggy battle is happening in front of Ms. Liberty, I can use the AP Wentworth's and run back and forth between it and the base portal without any lag.

It might even reduce lag if the numbers in the AE building in AP are such that people rushing to AP to battle in front of Ms. Liberty find they can't get there because AP2 is instanced. That will reduce the crowd in front of Ms. Liberty.

Ignore the extra /info window on a power. It's my most complex set-up, thanks to the extra MM buttons.
  18. At level 15, you can easily pick up a Stealth temp power in Bloody Bay. Also, a Temp Phase power can be purchased on the Market (great for getting past the Trolls). SuperSpeed also gives Stealth. And you may have a level 50 sugardaddy alt buy you a Stealth IO. Also, there is a Stealth 'invisibility' power from base empowerment stations.

With all that, all you really need is to make sure you have Recall Friend by level 14, and anyone can lead a CavernOTTrial.
  19. Zombie Man

    Exemping

You can pretty much mostly 6-slot everything you get at level 30 and below. And since Siren's Call is level 30, that's what I aimed for. If you then take specialty powers after level 30 that don't need extra slotting, such as Vengeance or Team Teleport, you can use the low level build even up to level 40.

At low levels, such as level 15 for a Positron TF, you get hit with a heavy enhancement reduction penalty.

    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Exemplar...n_Enhancements

So, you overslot way past ED, shooting for pre-ED figures as high as 110% enhancement, so that at level 15, it winds up being like having 3 DOs in all the powers available to you, which, at level 15, is pretty good (for a level 50 at level 15, enhancements are at 40% of their level 50 values).

I got hasten 5-slotted with level 50 IOs, which, at level 15, is equivalent to 3-slotting Hasten with SOs.

I didn't bother with Set Bonuses since to get them at a low level, the IOs need to be low level which means low level enhancing. And when you then figure in the exemplar scaling reduction... it gets too low.

And so, I used level 50 IOs and frankenslotted heavily.

    /bind mousewheel "+camdistadjust"

Which is what the default bind should be.

Also try another mouse and see if it has the same problems.
  22. Try using the command: /unloadgfx before you switch. It should clear out any memory leaks if that's the issue.

So what's up with this date?

    Something about rikti?

Plz don't tell me it's gonna be non-stop rikti raids

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you're in a particular zone, it will be laggy:

For 20 minutes out of every 3 hours.
If you get near the large crowds gathered together to fight the Rikti.

Now, can you think of ways of avoiding that situation if you chose to?
