Quote:I just discovered that recently to. These things can cause your keyboard to lose control of the 3D environment:Now if some of you read the EU boards, you'd have seen this system mentioned two or more years ago.

If you try and call an addition popmenu menu from within an existing menu the game loses control... as in no keys or mouse presses work.
The above means I have to kill the client and restart. I had forgotten about that.
1. Using the default .mnu or a popmenu to call up another popmenu
2. going 5 submenus deep (very rarely even going 4 submenus deep)
3. bad formating in your .mnu (mission quotes and that sort of thing).
The interesting thing is that even though you lose control of the 3D environment, you can still control the 2D GUI. -

Quote:D'oh! The answer was right in front of me in the status bar at the bottom of the screen hovering over the links!Found the solution for this:
On the Statistic page, don't click on the "Find all posts by" link, instead, copy the link location, like this one for Castle:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/searc...duser&u=382899
Niviene:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/searc...duser&u=434499
Avatea:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/searc...duser&u=475122
Ocho:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/searc...duser&u=446810
Posi:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/searc...duser&u=320280
Babs:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/searc...duser&u=418012
These links will give you the results, but they are on a 15 sec timer.
Thanks, Devian! I updated the OP. -
But that would take another patch to do it and another patch note on Test which would let us know what's coming Live.

Quote:I did extensive testing with this to see if I cold finagle the chat save file to keep the custom colors and this is exactly what I found: That the last global I joined went to the top of the list in that file and whenever I zoned, only that channel kept its value, all the rest of the globals had their colors reset. I don't think that that default file is even read upon first logging in as it's supposed to be.The only one that stays the same color for me is the one I joined most recently. All the rest change to various shades of "light green blue" and make it hard to tell which is which. I'm clicking "load chat options" every time I zone hehe
Since the chat file does keep a record of the colors you set reloading it will reset it to the colors you want, so, you can use this workaround. -

Quote:Excellent!Change the New Posts Image!

Woohoo! I have been twiddling with this all day long, so here's a great tidbit I've finally figured out!
Copy and paste one of the first two blocks of code to the bottom of the CSS file Z_Man gave above:
http://docs.google.com/View?id=dcv379dz_0d6r8hcgn
You only need to copy the top one (villain theme) OR bottom one (hero theme), unless you switch between themes.
Change the Last Post Image!

I already updated Zombie Skin with it. Thanks. -
First, you only have 1MB RAM. You're probably going over that and using virtual memory where a lot of memory is being swapped onto and off of your hard drive pagefiles. That slows down the game and can freeze you as textures are being loaded.
A quick fix for now is to create a macro to keep clearing out your texture memory like so:
/macro ugf "unloadgfx"
And use it before and after zoning.
Better would be to get an extra RAM of memory. It's relatively cheap.
Also, speaking of the hard drive, you're down to 6% which often makes Windows choke and wheeze trying to use a drive with that little memory left. Clean it out and/or move stuff off of it to the other (virtual) drives. To clean out your hard drive:
1. Go to control panel and then Add/Remove Programs and get rid of any programs you don't need any more.
2. Go into Windows Explorer (not the Internet Explorer) and right click on your C: drive and chose Properties. Under the General Tab, you'll see a button for Disk Cleanup, run it and get rid of deleted (recycle bin) and temp files.
3. Under the General Tab, make sure Indexing is not selected. Unless you need to do quick searches of your documents on a regular basis, you don't need this. It may take a while to propagate the un-indexing to all the sub-folders.
4. Go to the Tools Tab and click on the defrag button. Run the defragger. It may take an hour or two to defrag. Make sure the computer doesn't power down during it (you'll find power options where you change the screen saver -- right click on desktop...).
Also, while your CPU and graphics card are OK for CoH, you won't get good performance with all those other programs loaded in the background. Shut them off, or delete them, or keep them from starting on start up. If you cut and paste your HiJackThis into this site: http://www.hijackthis.de/ and hit Analyze, you'll see what all those entries are doing. Go to this site to understand you HiJackThis report:

References to the War Walls coming down were sly references to the upcoming Rikti Invasions. Even with the force field section down (the walls themselves don't come down), you can't go to other zones, for there are no other zones past the walls -- just a few building shells to give the impression there is.
In a game where SuperSpeed is limited to 92 mph for game engine reasons, you will never see a seamless city without an improvement in the servers by an order of magnitude... so, that's at least a few years away, and more likely for a CoH2 if it ever is developed. There's just too much geometry to keep track of and to try to load in the background while you're moving around. Try visiting and SuperSpeeding around all the zones and watch your memory usage go from .8 GB to 1.8 GB.
WoW does it because of the simple geometry, textures, and slow movement. CoH can't handle it... for now. And it was never promised. -
Quote:Aha! That *is* the case, but unfortunately, that is not the solution one would think it is. Only *some* VFX are suppressed, in fact, only a minority.Sorry if this was mentioned in the thread, but I noticed this setting only applies to effects that are activated AFTER the setting is applied.
I tested this with two toons from two accounts with screens right next to each other. They went to opposite sides of Wentworths and looked at each other and then activated powers.
Many body auras did suppress after their initial activation FX. So, I saw Accelerate Metabolism activated with it's green glow, but the continuing green afterglow got suppressed. However, Choking Cloud, which has a large AoE green bubbly FX did *not* suppress at all.
Shadowfall's activation FX was seen, and small dark patch remained under the caster, but it's billowy inkiness was not seen on the caster or others in its effects.
Hasten suppresses, but not SuperSpeed.
So, I put the two toons next to each other and watched everyone come and go at Wentworths. I had one with Suppress Other FX on and one with it off. The two scenes were mostly identical. It took an eagle eye to notice a particular aura on in one screen and off in the other. Many of the biggest and brightest and more glaring AoE auras and bubbles did not suppress.
So, it is sort of working for a handful of VFX, which means, in effect, it's still very bugged. When suppress personal FX was fixed, there were a minority of VFX that it wasn't working on and BAB had to include them as part of that setting. For Suppress Other FX, the majority of powers still have to be flagged to be included under its auspices. -
Quote:UniqueDragon is now our most reputable forum member and the only one to have reached three green dots. But for that to happen, everyone would have to go to UniqueDragon's post and give him positive rep. That would just skew the system. I don't recommend that kind of social engineering at all.

Quote:Go to Advanced Search and look at the bottom of the page for the Tagosphere. It's another part of the searching system. You can click a tag and get all the threads that have that tag.
According to the FAQ, the tag link text is supposed to change size depending on how much that tag is used throughout the forum, but I haven't noticed them being different sizes, even ones that have already been used a few times. -
Quote:He's now the third most reputable forum poster. But for that to happen, everyone would have to go to UniqueDragon's post and give him positive rep. That would just skew the system. I don't recommend that kind of social engineering at all.
BTW, I went to the vBulletion site and found out some more stuff about Rep:
A user has two values associated with them: Reputation and Rep Power.
Reputation is the total amount of positive or negative Reputation you have.
Rep Power is the amount of Rep you can give or take away from another user. Rep Power can be set by the board owners to be based on three variables:
1. How long a person has been registered.
2. How many posts they have.
3. How much personal Reputation (or lack thereof) they currently enjoy.
What values have been set by our Mods, I do not know. But theoretically, a long time and prolific poster who has been given a lot of Reputation can give or take a big chunk of Reputation from another user. -
Quote:From Poz:Concerning Suppress Extra FX...
I passed a Jira task to our lead programmer about this feature, and he quickly passed it back asking for information about what this is supposed to do versus what it's currently doing (or not doing). We're unable to find any design documentation for this setting, which means that most likely someone just coded it on a whim.
I've seen quotes as to what it's supposed to do, and I vaguely recall a programmer posting something here on the forums, but don't recall who exactly that was.
Programming assured me that it's doing something, just not what you guys think it's supposed to be doing.
And in fact, it's doing nothing discernible. I can stand in Wentworths or at a distance and see everyone's VFX. Toggling this option on and off does nothing.Quote:The intention of "Suppress Extra Player FX" was to reduce the number of "unimportant" FX displayed. This was targeting city zones, mainly near trainers.
With the Suppress FX options turned on, here are the heuristics used to determine if a continuing FX will be shown.
1. If it's not a continuing FX then show it.
2. If it's on you show it.
3. If it's on a critter show it.
4. If it's from a villain and you're a hero (or vice versa) show it.
5. If it's from you or to you, show it. (So you see all bubbles you cast.)
6. If the target or source is on you team show it.
In April last year, a fix was made to the code which fixed a loophole where you may not see some teammate FX (such as when they were debuffed by a critter). This may explain the change in behavior that you've seen.
So, I believe that the suppress code is working as we intended. We decided that anything that happened to a teammate or that you triggered was important. This feature was never meant to help on mission maps; it was meant to help spammed group heals at Ms. Liberty and sundry running around town.
I hope you do know how silly that sounds in that they can't put into English what it actually is it is doing and can point to, right?Quote:Programming assured me that it's doing something, just not what you guys think it's supposed to be doing.

Edit: I used this post to get the pics of what the two skins look like. Nothing to see here.

Thanks to Sorciere_NA's work in this post I learned about Stylish, which is a Firefox plug-in which allows one to take over the style sheet of a web site or forum. This enables one to tweak the way this vBulletin Board looks. In the link above, I linked a classic villain style version style-sheet to mimic the old villain skin of the UBB Board. However, I tweaked the villain skin a lot to something which I think just looks a whole lot better, which I'm dubbing... ZombieSkin, which is an alternative to the default villain skin.
Here is the Villain Skin CSS script to cut and paste into Stylish.
There's a villain skin and hero skin. Zombie Skin (villains) looks like this:

Here's what Zombie Hero Skin looks like:

And here you can find the Zombie Hero Skin CSS script to cut and paste into Stylish.
As you can see, a lot of the colors were tweaked to 'go together.' The font is also one size larger for readability and Verdana has replaced Arial. The gradient colors are gone. Extraneous underlining has been removed except for links. The grey avatar border is gone (making alpha channel transparencies work).
Of course, anything you don't like you can tweak, the style sheet is annotated.
Thanks to Sorciere_NA, Aggelakis, and Devian for their contributions.
Chrome Users: I've been told by a Chrome user that these Stylish Scripts will work if you remove the initial and ending curly brackets: { }
Opera Users: Use the plugin "Include CSS" and these Stylish Scripts will work if you remove the initial and ending curly brackets: { }
To complete the skinning, I recommend wholeheartedly Sharrow's GreaseMonkey script to strip out pics from sigs; and Diellan's GreaseMonkey script to move the Sticky Icon from the right to in front of the thread title and delete the 'STICKY:' prefix. -

Not only random, but weighted. Certain HOs drop more than others. Which is fine except for the Travel HO, that should be one of the most likely to drop but it isn't causing its price on the market to be astronomical.
