  1. The good news is that the scrolling problem is fixed on Test.

    The bad news is that Test is still missing info on the new, fifth power.

    The really good news is that you're not crashing when you click the plaques anymore.
  2. I'm guessing the problem is your GPU: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200. It's a generation older and a few levels of sophistication lower than what is regarded as minimum specs for a high-end 3-D game like City of Heroes.

    You can try this:

    1. Upgrade your graphics card driver. It *is* old.

    2. Go to your manufacturer's website and see if there is a newer driver for your motherboard chipset/CPU.

    3. Your huge hard drive is now more than 80% full. Windows goes crazy with that unless it's kept in order. Try this:
    1. Go to control panel and then Add/Remove Programs and get rid of any programs you don't need any more.

    2. Go into Windows Explorer (not the Internet Explorer) and right click on your C: drive and chose Properties. Under the General Tab, you'll see a button for Disk Cleanup, run it and get rid of deleted (recycle bin) and temp files.

    3. Under the General Tab, make sure Indexing is not selected. Unless you need to do quick searches of your documents on a regular basis, you don't need this. It may take a while to propagate the un-indexing to all the sub-folders.

    4. Go to the Tools Tab and click on the defrag button. Run the defragger. It may take an hour or two to defrag. Make sure the computer doesn't power down during it (you'll find power options where you change the screen saver -- right click on desktop...).
    4. Reboot and try to start CoH. If that won't work...

    5. Reboot and try to start in Safe Mode (check box for that on the updater). If you can only start in Safe Mode, come back here for next set of instructions.
  3. Well, there are a lot of background process you should kill. Even if one of them isn't the cause of the crashing, it will help performance. To understand you HijackThis log, you can cut and paste your log into this site: http://www.hijackthis.de/ and check out a tutorial here: http://pchell.com/support/hijackthistutorial.shtml

    The real problem is the integrated video chip. Such chips are not made for high-end 3-D gaming and it's below the recommended minimum settings. Usually laptops can't take a graphics card upgrade, so, you're kinda stuck.

    The best bet now is to see if your manufacturer's website has driver updates for your motherboard/CPU/GPU.

    Not really. It's come up in conversation before and a lot folks have said it's neat and they might run something like that, but no one has anything specifically planned that I know of.

    Except the 'spreading the word' on SSK on the forums where just about everyone here knows about what's coming in the next issue, or will make sure to read about it when it arrives is kind of superfluous. And how many of the Pride Channel subscribers read the boards, and this forum in particular so that they'll 'get the word'.

    The best way to spread the word to those in the Pride Channel that SSKing makes teaming easier is to put in in the Pride Channel's MOTD so that all those logging on can see it.
  7. Don't forget the level 1 footrace from BAB to the Storm Palace.
  8. You have way, way, way too much stuff running in the background. You even have *two instances* of Google Desktop loading up on launch. That is just horrible for performance. You let every program you ever used insinuate itself into your start up registry and now it's a spaghettified mess.

    See here to understand the HijackThis report: http://pchell.com/support/hijackthistutorial.shtml

    The sound problems are just the beginning. Performance *will* denigrate in more and more areas if you keep things the way they are. Time for a re-install:

    1. Make sure you have a Windows re-install disk.

    2. Back up all data.

    3. Reformat hard drive.

    4. Reinstall Windows. Update Windows. Update all drivers including motherboard chipset/CPU if available from the manufacturers website.

    5. Run HijackThis after all the driver installs. Delete the stay-resident helper files.

    6. Reinstall programs and run HijackThis to delete the stay-resident helper files. The only applications that you should allow to be stay-resident are your anti-virus apps and maybe two or three that you use *all the time*.

    7. Reinstall data.

    If you're thinking about upgrading to Win7, then do this once you're ready to upgrade.
  9. Check out this thread, Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines

    Then post the results of these two programs:

    • CoH Helper - it will show us basic computer settings and your CoH configuration.
    • HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format > Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.

  10. The funny thing is that by this time next week, Issue 16 will probably hit Live and the level restriction for Perez Park will be gone. This means the OP would have been able to get in and try to use a +2 to +12 hazard zone as a 'short cut', inevitably leading to multiple deaths.
  11. The Wiki is correct with how Procs and Globals work. It's been tested. Anyone who claims it's not working as the Wiki says has either found a /bug or is confused and needs to provide a screenshot to back up their claim.

    +Stealth Proc120s can *not* be placed in passive powers, otherwise they can't be shut off and you'll never be able to lead a hostage out of a mission. They *can* be placed in any of the Sprints. The slotting of +Stealth Proc120s has nothing to do with the slotting of Universal Travel Power sets.

    Universal Travel Power sets can not be slotted in Sprints. This was purposely done so that the special IOs of those sets can't be stacked 5 high by placing multiple copies of them in the prestige sprints, or that multiple Special IOs from various Universal Travel Power sets can't be loaded in all those free and unused prestige Sprint slots.

    The Wiki page on the effects of exemplaring says
    The Set Bonuses of Purple (Very Rare) Sets and PvP Sets are immune to the effects of exemplaring. However, the aspects of the power that they buff (e.g., Accuracy or Damage) are affected by exemplaring just like any other enhancement.

    But I have not tested that personally.

    Don't go to Arbiter Sawyer. Last time I did, I somehow found myself whitewashing the Arena and I paid him to let me do it!

  14. Update: Did a little research and it seems Wingdings are the leprosy of the Net.

    Since MS's 'wingding font' has never been accepted as a Net standard, it's use is severely frowned upon. It conflicts with Unicode; non-Windows OSs don't have access to it (Unix and Mac); and browsers which play by the rules and don't use it (FireFox) won't display it.

    There is a fix to make it display in FF if you have it installed on your computer that easily found with a Web search, but the policy gurus seem unified on this: Don't use Wingdings; use the iconography available in Unicode instead.

  15. I shut off Stylish and GreaseMonkey, and in FireFox, under both skins, the wingdings show up as regular text. So, I load up IE, and presto! I see the wingdings.

    So, it's a FF v. IE thing.

    It's not a GreaseMonkey script, it's my Stylish skin script.

    Replace this:
    Code:
    /* Override everything to use Verdana */
         * {
           font-family: Verdana !important;
          }
    with this:
    Code:
    /* Override Arial sections to use Verdana */
         .alt2, .alt2Active, .alt1, .alt1active, .tcat, .thead, .forumtitle {
           font-family: Verdana !important;
          }
    The original script made everything Verdana. Then there was another script in my skin that made code boxes monospaced. However, when these guys started indicating the specific font to be used in a code box (e.g., Courier), then the first script changed it back to Verdana. So, that script is now changed to name all the specific parts in the style sheet of the forum that calls for Arial to be changed to Verdana, letting the code box be the monospaced text inserted into the post, or the monospaced text from my skin.

    I'm updating the complete skins now so the link in the thread linked below is up to date.

    As far as guides go, the Guide to Guides really only has one guide in Section X that actually goes over the mechanics of the respec process (by R_M dating back to I8: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...370#post578370).

    Since I already have a freespec and two respecs for the (45th level) character I intend to respec first, I'll go ahead and get my feet wet and give the freespec a go. If all goes to worst and I discover that I've messed it up after I've saved it, I have two more respecs to play with. I've been hoarding them just in case.

    Another freespec has just been announced. Even though a long time ago, they told us they'd give us a one week warning for new freespecs, the last time it was only two-three days warning. I'm guessing one is coming Tuesday with the release of I16 (my best guess).

    So, if you have freespecs, burn them NOW!
