The exact shape (or the steepness/shallowness of the different parts of the curve) is not as important as the general idea.
Ah, I get what you're aiming at... progress that progresses then regresses. Yes, a sigmoid curve represents that.

I was thinking you wanted big returns right off the bat with regression being minimal at first and then increasing regression.

Doesn't a sigmoid curve start off shallow, then accelerate, then get shallow again?

Wouldn't an arcsecant curve be better with a fast initial positive slope, then a diminishing returns asymptote?

  5. /suppressCloseFx 1 <--- This turns on disabling of personal graphics effects if your camera is within a certain distance of your character.

/suppressCloseFxDist 300 <--- This sets that certain distance. BAB recommended 300 ft. If you don't ever want to see your GFX, then set it to zero.

  8. The key to good open systems is not to link (too many) stats to each other. If lots of skills are linked to a certain stat, then the min-maxer has a vested interest to max out that whole set of skills, which just brings you back to a class based system.

The other key is to use diminishing returns. It's less drastic than caps, but serves the same purpose: to keep min-maxers from breaking the formulas.

  10. A true open system, and the one that should have and should be built is one where you spend points buying your mechanical advantages: attacks and the amount of damage they do and the type of damage; defenses; resistances; protections; mezzes; buffs and debuffs; speed; etc... on a diminishing returns scale.

Then, for each click or toggle or passive or charge-up attack/defense/mez/buff you have, you customize how it looks. You choose the animation, it's emanation, and it's colors.

Then the Devs build the NPCs and their AIs to function as not-insurmountable challenges to the mechanics the players have available to them.

    Done.
  11. Also, another tip:

On my main toon, I used a second build for low level exemplaring: Not built for IO Bonuses, but uses IO Set pieces for Frankenslotting. All the pre-30 powers are nearly six-slotted for going way past ED (so that exemplaring still leaves those powers as if they were SO'd). Then I picked utility powers that didn't need slotting for post-30 powers, which meant that that toon was still pretty spiffy at high levels.

Then my main build used level 41-ish IOs so that I'd still have Set Bonuses in Warburg and on up.
  12. It's almost like it's impossible for human beings and all their constructs to be perfect.
  13. The store window is linked to the scale of the health window. If you resize the health window, all the other windows will snap to that scale. Then you can rescale the windows that can be scaled while all the ones that can't be scaled will share the health window's scale.

    See this guide.
  14. The +5 combat power accessibility was instituted because players complained they would lose a power they might have gotten by leveling up in a mission. And so, the Devs allowed us to have access to powers above combat level, but the question was... by how much?

The answer of +5 combat levels came about because in the old system, a player could team up with another player and still be +5 levels and still get XP. At a level spread of +6 or more, then no more XP, which forced an exemplaring. And so, we get +5 combat level accessibility to Powers.

So, this had nothing to do with the -4 and more rule for IO Bonus dropout.

To use your example above, in the old system, if you exemplared from 50 to 45, you'd lose the bonuses from your level 50 IOs. Well, the same is still true. You're exemplared from 50 to 45 and your level 50 IOs still don't count for bonuses -- no change.

  16. Double XP weekends aren't that bad. Freedom may hit a few moments of server lock.

What's coming up is a combination of Double XP AND REACTIVATION weekend. Now, *that* will cause Freedom and Virtue to lock down during peak play times... and that's where the queue comes in.

    Window Opacity

It's never been fixed and always operated in the buggy way you described.
    Window Transparency Setting

It doesn't stick. Every time the options window is opened the slider moves toward zero.
Workaround: The transparency of the windows can be set with the /window_color command. It takes an argument of four integers from 0 - 255 each separated by a space. The four integers set the Red, Green, Blue, and Alpha (transparency) values. And so, e.g.,
    • /window_color 0 255 0 100 -- would yield very green window borders that are nearly half transparent with the window space on the inside nearly invisible.
    • /window_color 200 0 200 230 -- would yield very purple borders about 60% opaque and an inside window about 90% opaque.

Such commands can be set to a bind or macro or popmenu for quick resetting. Or it can be bound to an often used command so that it's constantly being reset without having to think about it.
  18. Kadabra Kill and Sigil would make the better Halloween Event Info Officers -- they're not used as contacts in any other capacity.

    Thank you...

I just got a Grey Mackinaw, some Grapefruit from Tampa, and a Cross Cut Saw!
  20. That's a new one.

In case you're still at that screen wondering what to do... go to the Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and close down CoH and then start it up again.
  21. You might want to try a third party vendor's driver like found here or here

You might also try different setting for textures and shader, even if it's a higher one.

Also, see if your manufacturer's website had updated drivers for the motherboard chipset/CPU.
  22. TRICK OR TREAT 2009

    Testing Procedure

I 'knocked' on 200 doors. The first hundred I didn't fight the spawned 'tricks' (so sue me!), the second hundred I did. The cooldown seems unchanged: 10 seconds to knock, and a door you knocked on can't be knocked on again for 5 minutes... keep moving!

    Ratio of Treats to Tricks

Treats seem to be on the rise this year. Last year, I figured Treats were 1 out of 3 knocks. This year they're 1 out of 2! (96 out of 200 doors were Treats.)

    Treat

Inspirations: Two years ago, we had Tier 3 Inspirations. Last year, they were downgraded to 1 to 3 Tier 1 Inspirations. This year it's one Tier 1 for every Treat door.

Temp Powers: They seem unchanged from last year. Out of 200 doors, 47 gave up a Temp Costume for ~ 1 out of 4 knocks ( ~ 1 out of 2 Treats). Here's the results from my 200 doors:
    0 Banished Pantheon Shaman Costume
    1 Consortium Guard Costume
    2 Carnival Harlequin Costume
    1 Carnival Strongman Costume
    0 Coralax Minion Costume
    0 Council Galaxy Costume
    2 Council Penumbra Costume
    2 Crey Agent Costume
    1 Crey Powersuit Costume
    0 Crey Security Costume
    0 Freakshow Boss Costume
    3 Freakshow Stunner Costume
    0 Goldbricker Costume
    1 Hellion Thug Costume
    3 Knives of Artemis Costume
    2 Legacy Chain Costume
    2 Lost Costume
    5 Malta Gunslinger Costume
    2 Malta Operative Costume
    3 Nemesis Soldier Costume
    2 Outcast Thug Costume
    0 Paragon Protector Costume
    1 Pirate Costume
    1 PPD Cop Costume
    6 PPD Hardsuit Costume
    0 PPD Swat Officer Costume
    1 Scrapyarder Costume
    2 Skulls Thug Costume
    1 Sky Raider Costume
    1 Troll Costume
    1 Tsoo Inkman Costume
    0 Vahzilok Eidolon Costume
    1 Warrior Thug Costume
I deleted the Temp Power as soon as I got it so that there would be no wasted gifts.

The big change among powers here would be *no* Rock Power! At least, I didn't get one. Last year with 200 doors I was sure to get a handful. Maybe I was just unlucky.

Halloween Salvage: Halloween Salvage is no longer given out as a Treat! You now get it by defeating the foes that spawn from a 'Trick' door. Out of 112 defeats, I got 7 Halloween salvage, that's about 1 out of 16 foes will drop one (6.25%).
    4 Lord Recluse
    2 BAB
    1 States
    0 Hami

    Tricks

I ToT'd solo set for no Bosses and -1 level, but I got Bosses (which I like). One time even a Boss and two minions! And two Lieutenants was pretty common also. This is a change from last year where I would have gotten 3 minions 66% of the time and a Lt./minion pair the rest. So, a soloist will have a good chance to get all the defeat badges. All the door-spawns seem to be spawning at a good ratio. The problem with last year's shortage of Spirits is gone, in fact, the Devs may have overcompensated a bit. Out of 104 Trick doors I got...
    30 Zombies
    27 Witches
    25 Spirits (lieutenants)
    24 Streng
    19 Werewolves (lieutenants)
    17 Sorcerers (lieutenants)
    17 Vampires (lieutenants)
    9 Vampire Lords (Boss)
    8 Crone (Boss)
Tricks do indeed see through Stealth (I had 100 feet of it up!). And they'll follow you unless you can outdistance them by a lot quickly (Werewolves are fast!). Abandoned spawn eventually disappear.

As noted above, it's possible to get spawns much higher than you if you're at the low end of the spawn range in a zone. That is bad design and encourages knock-and-run, and also griefing (high level toon knocks on the door near a lower level toon). This leads me to my #1 Recommendation for Trick or Treating:

Have the Trick Door Spawn use the 'Purple Damage Scaling Code' that Giant Monsters use, please.

All special outdoor spawns should use it. Giant Monsters use it, Rikti Invasion uses it, Zombapocalypse uses it, the new Deadly Apocalypse uses it... please make door spawns use it.
