  1. So maybe Icon should be across the street from the southern tram in Steel. Or, perhaps ... like many of us, folks should just run around and get used to how aggro ranges work, why they should and shouldn't take certain travel powers for their characters, who not to mess with, and how the city itself is laid out.

I know many of us have made it by the skin of our teeth through steel canyon up to Icon.

I also know plenty of people (myself included) who goes to the one in Independance Port instead, since it's a quicker run - though you have to get to Kings Row first.

I really am more and more convinced that there shouldn't be an AE building in the low level zones.

At this point of course, it'd be impossible to *remove all the characters* from them, in order to do so. Very drastic measures would surely have to be taken to ensure that characters left there for badging were moved to an *appropriate* spot, somehow, or compensated, without having their data damaged. Don't know how that would work.

I'll admit that last night, I was tempted by an AE farm in Cap. I hate playing villains, I suck at playing them. I finally managed to ding another level on my corrupter and there was a group running AE farms the whole time I was missioning. I've got no idea how far they got, or what flavor of farming they were doing, but they were pretty polite about their broadcasts. However, now that I've managed to IO that toon out a little he actually seems like he's going to be way more playable and fun. So... the window of that opportunity has closed, in my mind. No need, no desire.

But I'd never, ever, choose to AE over missioning when I haven't played the powersets before. If I were to duplicate the SAME character I've had before, maybe on a new server, sure - I might stomach a farm or two for a while, but I can't stand THAT much mindless repetition - to me it's just not fun enough.

So I find it difficult to believe that there are SO many people who LIKE just being in one instance over and over, *for the duration of their character's life*. It makes no sense to me.

    Ah well.

Well *visually* it's fine to have something allow you to see through it, but game wise as long as it doesn't impart any changes to the accuracy of others perception, I see nothing wrong. Visually spotting things is nice in a pvp zone, but being able to "see" them by tabbing is where the game kind of requires more attention.

So as long as it doesn't tag things to be *completely invisible* by itself, I see nothing wrong.
  3. The broken Nemi automatons. When they start stuttering I get taken back to my youth when I was (and still am) terrified of robots due to the movies I'd watched and Disneyland. Twitchy dolls scare the crap out of me. First time I heard the automatons speaking I almost quit the mission right there in the doorway.

"Fluff" has no effect. I don't complete a mission faster because I'm wearing the Baron jacket from the magic pack, or I'm wearing red instead of green. That is "fluff."

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's a lie, and you know it. Everyone knows red makes things go faster. Duh.

    NOWAI!

the FLAMES make things go faster!!
  5. Yeah but for players? No. And there's no reason for it. Alpha shunted out this idea because it didn't work.

Tankmages are not fun for *anyone but that tankmage*.
  6. Well, as a more generic reminder:

    BACK UP YOUR FILES REGULARLY!!!
  7. Yes, it is that difficult. If it wasn't, don't you think we'd have this feature (which we have in fact been asking for for.... um... like 4.5 years)?
  8. Just so people who may have freebie sites with Geocities, it, like many other providers of formerly-free web space, will be shutting down its free-made (anything made possible with their Pagebuilder program) sites permanently in October of this year.

Time to get on a paid site, if you don't already have one, and collect info from those older sites you might like - some might not be maintained any more, and still have fun info or images, old logs and such.

Myself, I have like... 60 geocities sites (as I collect cyberpets and they take a lot of space!) which I'm getting moved over to my paid yahoo account. But I'm also "rescuing" probably a dozen other related sites, that have long since been dusty from neglect by their owners who moved on from that community.

So... Just a heads up. Get your sites saved while you can.

At least they gave some kind of notice (only in the geocities starter page, admittedly, they should have sent emails) where as AOL didn't, and others shut down abruptly in the past.
  9. *snerk*

you've made me gigglesnort twice in 10 minutes. Congratulations, that's worth at least a couple strands of the interweb.
  10. Because a lot of us who often find fault with Tony's arguments (if not necessarily his views), agree with what he posted here. Because I agree this time too. A fabulous post, and absolutely true start to finish.

Now, would the other three horses of the apocalypse please step forward?
  11. So... you're saying that the AE is "evil" now?

Hm. Don't use it. Problem solved!

Seriously - yes, there are some things that can change. They can remove the AE buildings from the low level zones, that would be something in the right direction. But the AE being misused is not their fault - it's people who come to the game with expectations held over from others. They're being introduced to a powerleveling method and ignoring the game.

I DO think that it's time to put a time-based restriction on the AE use, though I have suggested before, a certain number of hours actually played on any toon outside the ae granting entry to it.

It's no guarantee, but if someone rushes to 50 using another method and then plays a character outside of AE, they will at least have SOME idea of the rest of the game. Rushing to 50 WITH the ae, yes, that's becoming a problem - though I do NOT see it as a long-term one, it's temporary.

Best thing to do is take a new player under your wing, give them a grand tour of the world they're in, and show them WHY it's better to do their contact arcs FIRST, instead of using the AE to jet past them and wonder where the "game" is.
  12. It's like a luge race. It's going pretty fast.

This seems like a solution in search of a problem.

Yes indeed. Seems we've had a lot of those recently, actually...
  14. Actually the falling is pretty hilarous when you do it right
  15. Never, actually. He's not a doctorate, he is not even a master. He's just some guy playing city of heroes at a university.

    Very lame. very, very lame.
  16. Shadow Shard is a beautiful zone. It's what is visible through the walls and floors in Pocket D.

    What to do there?

    Fall a lot.

Look at the pretty plants, and run away from eyeballs who want to eat you.

Yeah I would love that. Actually it could be part of a terrific arc - where you get some kind of "invisiblity item" like a potion, piece of technology, etc - and that is a reward in the tailor for your efforts.

I have no idea how it would work for US, but obviously it'd be something cool.
  18. Accounts cannot have two characters open at the same time. It simply is not possible.

Recreate a character and name it something slightly different and pay for a 2nd account.

They don't like muling to yourself, that's why it's not easier to give yourself money in other ways.
  19. Yeah I have taken to the one in Brickstown, and even Talos is good because it's got a closer ww and near the base entrance.
  20. Yeah in this case it's time to ADD, not "upgrade"
  21. When you find me a gazebo that has a fully functional multi-floor holographic interface, vendors, a hospital, and a 'quiet room' ... maybe I'll go for that idea.

It's a high rise building. Are they open to the air? Every building I've ever seen - building, mind, not "structure" like a gazebo or other free-standing item - HAS DOORS or can be locked in some way when no one is there. It's ... unrealistic to expect to NOT have a door in between you and the extremely complicated computer systems and devices that would be housed in such a building.

I'd expect a LOT more drones and cops standing around if there were no doors to this building.

Wentworths has drones and specialized equipment to keep out the "bad" people - but it also has doors. If you use the teleporter to it, you come through a door! It also has the "illusion" of back doors, rollups for trucks. Obviously, they are there as windowdressing for us in the game, but it's a realistic way of looking at a building.
  22. No, they are not fluff by any definition. Sorry. You will not be allowed to use your money to increase your character's abilities in the game. ONLY to improve or change their APPEARANCE and get small perks that do NOT imbalance GAME PLAY.

Get with it. That's all that needs to be said. You can try and redefine it all you want, but the fact is that if you change how a character PLAYS in the game, you are imbalancing things for those who cannot AFFORD to do so.
