Sorry, I'm going to be annoying again:
[ QUOTE ]
for example an Ilusion/# Controller could use Phase Shift and then the Hyper Phase temp power from Warburg for a full minute of down time during which time as a defender he could squish me about 3 times in a row).
[/ QUOTE ]
Except you can't use Hyper Phase in the arena. In fact, you can't use ANY temp powers apart from the ones bought at the arena store.
[ QUOTE ]
I'm sure Xanthus will be able to hold his own even without his travel powers.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you talk to Sally Storm, she'll tell you the only thing keeping me alive in my match vs her was movement (which it was). I'll just come on a different toon, probably my scrapper, until the rules are changed. -
I guess you can finally put me on too:
Xanthus: Grav/Emp/Primal Forces Science Controller -

[ QUOTE ]
The pet itself is intangible all the time.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not sure at all, I remember I can target it in PvP and even doing some damage to it...
[/ QUOTE ]
Aye, but if it's friendly you can actually run through it. -
Still, the way that I survive on my troller is through movement (super speed and CJ). I use the map to my advantage to force flyers down to my level, and also to put myself out of LOS so that I can heal up etc etc.
My point stands as well though; you won't win an arena fight by running away.
I'm going to get shouted at by khelds for saying this, but they're [censored] in the arena. They don't have the DPS that a blaster does, or the protection of tanks/scrappers and they CERTAINLY don't have enough mez's to be able to complete with a controller. -
The pet itself is intangible all the time. The only thing that stops bad guys from running through it is Repel (although sometimes they do get knocked THROUGH the pet).

[ QUOTE ]
Example 1: A blaster with fly vs a scrapper with SSWe all know the blaster would win, and the scrapper would never be able to touch the blaster
[/ QUOTE ]
You can buy Web Grenades, which are -fly, from the arena shop. Also, no blaster will kill a decent scrapper from range. You've gotta get into melee and whack 'em with your toggleknockers. There are also ways to exploit the map to force a flying blaster to come down to your level (such as moving under the trees in the perez park map etc etc).
[ QUOTE ]
Example 2: Scrapper with SS takes on a Tank with SJ. Again, the advantage goes to the first dude. If the scrapper finds his precious HP dwindling, he can just activate SS and peg it out of there. If he's regen aswell, he can switch on instant healing and by the time he lets the tanker catch up to him, he can be fully healed again.
[/ QUOTE ]
The scrapper won't win by running away though. If he's regen, the tank won't kill him through IH anyway. If he's DA, he can't use Dark Regen without standing next to the tank. If he's SR, he has no self heal. If he's invul, then I suppose your point stands. He's still not getting any kills when he's running though.
[ QUOTE ]
Also, don't forget that this tournament is open to ALL levels. Say some poor pre-14s come along. They'll get absolutely thrashed by anyone with a travel power. I guarantee that if we allowed travel powers, they'd never have a CHANCE of winning a single match.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait, what? If I fought a pre-14 surely I'd be exemped to their level? You can't have travel powers before 14, so the playing field would be levelled (apart from the fact that all my attacks would be 6 slotted with SOs and his probably won't even have TOs in them).
[ QUOTE ]
Incidentally, this is also why we at HU discourage the Kheldian AT from participating in our tourneys, as they have access to both fly and tp, and to my knowledge they're actually able to use these powers DESPITE the travel power restriction.
[/ QUOTE ]
This rule I agree with.
[ QUOTE ]
Think about this example: Illusion/* troller. Granted, Mr illusion troller will have access to his main powerset invises, but if we allow pool stealth powers, he will be able to activate his phase shift power, which prevents him from attacking or being attacked. Now say he uses his PA/Spectral Terror/Phantasm powers and then goes phase shifted. The guy he's facing will never even gett the CHANCE to hit him, yet he'll be taking damage from the trollers pets. That's the crux of the matter. I agree with Xanthus, I have no qualms with people using STEALTH powers, but in my eyes, the opponent should at least have a chance of winning, and someone who is perma or nearly perma phased has a huge advantage.
[/ QUOTE ]
Phase Shift lasts for 30 seconds, and then has a recharge time of about 5 minutes on it. You can't use phase shift to win an arena fight like you could back in I4. Granted, in the 30 seconds where they're phased the pets can attack, but I seriously doubt anyone would die in that time. -
So it's not live 24/7, but only put up for certain times? That's a bit odd....
-
Does anyone know if the Cathedral Of Pain trial is live yet? My SG just got a raidable base and we're interested in running it, but I don't want to start the mission unless we're 100% sure it's working.
Also, does anyone know if any other supergroups have run it successfully on live? Was it hard? Are there any easy ways to do it quickly? -
I'm there, but I have a few things that I'd like to suggest:
This time, could we please have travel powers ON? It shouldn't matter too much if your opponent runs from you, he won't won the match that way.
Could we also have limit stealth powers OFF? I don't use invis, but I'm not bothered if other people use it either. They aren't going to kill me by hiding. -
[ QUOTE ]
[snip]Wormhole I also find useful for its mass disorientate/quick getaway uses (it has HUGE range}[snip]
[/ QUOTE ]
You're joking, right? I always found Wormhole to have incredibly short range, and I have 3 range SOs in mine! -
Bantam or Heavyweight?
I suppose for either, it all depends on your tactics. In bantamweight, we had an ill/rad because it suited our tactics. -
Sure, I'll do it.
Ataxia, Level 25 spines/SR stalker -
[ QUOTE ]
Y'know, there's those guys called... Controllers, who have, like, defenders primaries as secondaries, plus holds and other nifty stuff as primaries, and status protection in their epic.
The OP asked for something overpowered that can hold his own in 1v1 and teams. Yes, I'm sure your skills can make a spines/DA work alone regardless of the end problem, and a ice/ice tank or a emp/dark defender kill people 1v1, but that's not the point of this topic.
[/ QUOTE ]
1) Controllers do not have dark miasma, which is probably one of the better Defender sets.
2) Controllers secondaries are around 75% as effective as Defender primaries
3) Defenders can fit more of their primaries into a build, whereas controllers have to work with their primaries as well as their secondaries
4) Controllers have more than one thing to concentrate on if they're buffing/debuffing AND controlling. Defenders do not.
Yes, a controller is probably hte most overpowered 1vs1, but I wouldn't discount Defenders simply because Controllers have the same sets. -

So I'm a bit drunk right now, but still, I've never been beated one on one in the arena and if you think you're the person to do it send a challenge this way. Anyone that beats me gets at least 1 mil inf so let the smack talk begin. Nad
[/ QUOTE ]
Tell ya what roll a lv one blaster NRG/NRG and offer people out then we will see how good you really are at PVP put the build in the bin and just use skill what ya say. Heck if you go for it I will fight ya.
[/ QUOTE ]
Said it once, Rock, and I'll say it again. Challenges like this are a pile of [censored], since you've had way more experience playing a blaster than (for example) I have.
Besides, builds most definitely aren't everything. I'm gravity/empathy for goodness sake! -
I would never enter a team arena fight without a defender. Ever.
-
Gratz fulla!
More drinking in Bristol please! -
[ QUOTE ]
Not sure, but I personally doubt that the defence would be amazing...
[/ QUOTE ]
An immense 9.83% to be precise. Just don't bother. Slot it with 3 endurance reductions and be done with it. -
[ QUOTE ]
Erm, tested this on my friends controller in the Arena. He ran tactics, and he could see me when I was just running hide. However, when I ran stealth he couldn't see me at all.
[/ QUOTE ]
Re-posted for emphasis. I have tested this and it's NOT TRUE.
Edit: After further testing, I have found that Defenders can see through hide and stealth when the stalker goes within about 6ft with just tactics. This is wrong, imo. Stealth and hide should require TWO +perception powers to overcome them. I'll probably drop stealth now, and get something else.
I suppose I can take some solace in the fact that other ATs can't but even so, I think we should really get a respec since I've killed three of my powerslots with concealment powers which are nowhere near as good as they used to be. -
Don't take repel, it's pants. Flash is OK-ish, but I wouldn't waste a lot of slots on it after you get PA.

Edit: Just looked at times, and one of my SG isn't back in until like 9:30pm (GMT). Looks like I can't make it after all.

Temp Invul which gives you pretty good smash/lethal resistance (70% or something)
[/ QUOTE ]
I wish I had the controller version on my tank then; I could have skipped the Fighting Pool completelyI'm pretty sure the value (even when slotted up) is a good deal lower than 70%
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah yeah. Apologies for that, it was late and I was too lazy to check in hero builder. When slotted up, you get about 31.47% resistance to S/L. -
3 recharge 3 heal is by far the best way to go for a /emp controller. The extra heal is just not worth the slot, better to have another recharge in there so you can spam it more.

I took Primal Mastery
The name of the power escapes me but there is one power that makes your hold moves more accurate and last nearly twice as long. It also makes Hover super fast and defensive
This epic set also includes another blast power and invulnerability.
Worth considering.
[/ QUOTE ]
Power Boost, doubles all the secondary effects of your powers (hold duration, heal amount, regen rate etc etc) but NOT the primaries (damage, accuracy etc). Works really well for AVs and stacking over mez protection in PvP. The other powers are Power Blast, which is a decent enough blast with a short animation and a low end cost, Temp Invul which gives you pretty good smash/lethal resistance (70% or something) and Conserve Power which is like your own personal RA.
