This is a great topic. I had so many I had wanted to do, but eight slots go faster than you think.
The Miss Jersey Task Force MJ is away from New Jersey for a week and you get to fill in facing all the threats she normally would. Featuring villains like the Toll-Bot 3000, Toxic Waste and others. Status - Designed a few of the villains for this arc.
All Tricks, No Treats Halloween is being threatened by other lesser holidays who are jealous of its success and growing popularity. Status - Did a basic outline and started to select maps.
Insert Coin! A cult of 80s arcade and pinball purists are outraged by the perversion of gaming today and plan to put gaming back where it belongs ..in full sized arcade cabinets. Status - No work done
Long Live Rock! Dr. Disco Fever takes another shot at reviving Disco. "Death to Disco!" sequel. Status - Unwritten
Disco Lives! Villain arc where you are hired to help Dr. Disco Fever take down Rock and Roll. Are you really that villainous? "Death to Disco!" sequel. Status - Unwritten
Name? Though MA experience classic Paragon Society battles and villains by joining the Paragon Society during its heyday. Featured missions divided by decades 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and the 1970s. Sequel/Spinoff to "The Golden Age Secret of the Paragon Society" Status - Outline mostly done, first mission mostly done.
Name? You know who is back up to his old shenanigans and he would like your help in making the lives of some of Paragon Citys heroes a little more interesting. This would be a villain arc. Sequel to "A Hero in Need is a Friend Indeed!" Status - Not Written

Here I thought "A Hero in Need...is a Friend Indeed!" was on your favorites list too.
Not exactly a mystery, but I guess a who done it would fit.

Last night I found out via feedback that one of the very things "A Hero in Need...is a Friend Indeed!" is praised for in the article, it's custom group, was stealth broken due to some recent patch. A team playing it complained that all the minors were scrappers and that the big end boss was repeated all over the place,
Checking the arc, the big boss had lost is "Don't Auto Spawn" tag and two of the three minions from the custom group were missing. It was the two that were normal baddies recolored with new bios. I readded them and set boss back to not autospawn. In adding them back, I found that "Snake Eyes" was not allowed, so I made them "Snake-Eyes". Gotta love loosing ratings due to stealth breaks. Very very frustrating.

What a nice unexpected surprise this was (thanks to Bubba for first tipping me off) also congrats to the others mentioned. I just got a hold of the issue and was nicely surprised to see a picture for each arc with a little write up about it. This really brighten an otherwise hellish week (@Kinetic Jaunt had his bone marrow transplant and is in the ICU). Really cool of PC Gamer and the author to run/write this article.
Cat, I'm sorry to hear that your arc is still broken. "A Hero in Need...is a Friend Indeed!" was also broken for a time, but I was able to do a work around until it got fixed and back to 100%.

He started chemo today. He's been enjoying CoH from the hospital, but it may be a couple of weeks before he feels good enough to get back online. Send good thoughts all.

Quote:It would be idiotic to deny DC worthy arcs a DC because they were played in a month with other DC worthy arcs. What I think they are saying is that they will roll out one a month and that one will come from the ones they played in the past that are worthy.Question: At the end of the month, does only the best of the four arcs played have a chance at getting a Dev's Choice, or do all four (or five on some months) arcs have a chance to become Dev's Choice based on their own merit - so anywhere from 0 to 5 arcs each month could become a Dev's Choice?

Quote:Funny you say this since it's how I have always felt personally and design my arcs with that in mind. Others disagree and I have been criticized in the past for not using that space except for flavor text. Two schools of thought I guess, but I'm a realist and know that most teams would not think to cut/paste the text for the others to read.I understand that it's partially the fault of the system for not letting teammates see return dialog, but after so many years I figured that people would know better than to use it for important information.

Maybe someday when things settle down for me I will make these and the MA Super Team again.

This is awesome. Thanks to the American Legion and everyone.

Quote:I'm sorry to hear about your son. I have Aplastic Anemia as well, have lived with it for 15ish odd years now.
I got better and I'm sure he will too.
Thanks for sharing this Banshee. It's so terrifying as a parent. Since it's so rare (100 new cases a year in the US) it's really great to hear from someone that has recovered from it.

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes, thoughts and prayers.

I find this incredible funny or sad or something since I and others have mentioned this idea a million times before over the last two years... maybe now it will finally happen.

MA Friends,
I've been pretty absent from the game and even missed every single AE Invasion despite wanting to attend them, alas it's been because of a real life issue that has been taking all my time/energy.
My 21 year old son, @Kinetic Jaunt, became suddenly ill about two months ago and after many, many tests it was determined that he has a rare disease know as Aplastic Anemia. He requires a bone marrow transplant and we were extremely lucky, if anything about this can be called lucky, in that his only full sibling is a match (there is only a 25% chance full siblings will match). He is currently in the hospital and as soon as he's strong enough, hopefully in the next week, he will start chemo and a week after that his brother will go in to make the donation.
Once he is strong enough, he will return to CoH thanks to the great people at NCSOFT who gave him two free months of game time. He does have his computer in the hospital and may even try logging in from there once he's up to it.
Both of my sons started playing CoH in May 04 and are the ones responsible for getting me into it. Though, my younger son no longer plays (college and all that), he still listens to my stories about what I've been up to writing/playing MA arcs.
Anyways, I just wanted to thank NCSOFT and let you all know because I consider so many of you my friends.

I can't tell you how much this cheer's me up (something I desperately need atm). My suggestion is to check out the "Recommendations For Dev's Choice" thread towards the top of this forum since it contains most of what you are looking for already. Thanks Dev Team!

What I've pointed out dozens of times before, but I feel the need to do so again, is that the star system is not evenly weighted. To raise a single 1 star rating to a 5 a total of SEVEN 5 star rates (36/8 =4.5 which is rounded to 5 stars). Simply put, the system in place weights lower ratings more than higher ones. Example: an arc with 10 plays has 7 5 star ratings, 2 4 star and 1 1 star. This arc would be 4 stars under the current system.

Quote:Oh course we all agree but, we've been over this time and time again. The problem is that the Devs need to see MA as a priority and they don't. We have waxed on about easy solutions and ways to make MA or accessible or better, but it doesn't matter a hill of beans if the people that can make it happen don't care.A better solution would be some sort of improved in-game tools for finding story arcs. Features like "If you liked this arc, you might like these arcs" and favorites lists like "@Soandso's Favorite Arcs" or "Top 10 Science Fiction Arcs" would help immensely with this. These are standard features on many media sites, so should be easy to implement (for the devs) and easy to understand (for users).

Congratz! This is well deserved!
I have to point out that once again (See my Hall of Fame Needs Revision thread) it's yet another arc published the first month that MA was released (4/09) and the the next story arc in line to eventually reach HoF will also be from 4/09. While I'm pleased to see a great story arc achieve this and a good author get another slot to make an arc, an arc either needs to have been made the first month MA came out or a farm to achieve HoF. As currently the only way to get an extra slot assuming you have bought all you can, it should have been fixed long ago. As for those that say "What about DC?" Last non-contest DC: 17 months ago. Last DC selected by someone other than Dr. Aeon: over two years (a Dev run "Annual" runner up) .
Personally, after deleting an arc with 158 plays once, I won't be doing that again or apparently ever creating another arc.

Been a long time since an update so here is a little more of what people are saying:
@Trev-MUN wrote: I learned about this arc from a trailer done by Bubbawheat. One of the comments got me interested in how they were taken by surprise that this arc explores what it means to be an American. I have to say, I definitely agree! This was excellently written and well worth the time I spent playing it.
@Quake- wrote: Second time through still loving it!
@IneffableBob wrote: Nice arc! I like that the missions were mostly on small maps and fairly quick to complete. Good story and fun to play!
@Cloud Leopardes wrote: Nicely done!
@Lethal Guardian wrote: (played as part of the Player's Choice contest) - Everybody's got to have a 'your best work' arc, and IMHO this one is yours. It was great fun to play it again, and reminded me of why it is such high quality, and deserving of nomination. It's hard to explain, but everything 'clicks' in just the right way for this one. Very well done (again)!
@EvilTwinToo wrote: For the record, I actually do detest totalitarians of all brands. They are a waste of organic material. Thx for the mish, it was a fun romp.
@Fasttrack1 wrote: I thorougly enjoyed the humor and the atmosphere you gave the story (WW2 era). Gave it 5 stars, especially since I love reading on WW2 history. Fantastic creation!
@Dalghryn wrote: Well-written and researched.
@Fiery Redeemer wrote: Excellent arc. Doesn't hurt that it's about beating up 5th Column. Thank you.
@Dr Mechano wrote: loved it, very golden age and would like to see more on the Paragon Society
@dogut wrote: Great story idea and great execution! I thought Sherman was going to betray me. Makes me want to adventure with the PS members of WW2! Maybe a sequel?
@AlwaysAPrice wrote: Great classic Nazi-punching adventure, I like the approach of a comical contact that lures you into a serious story. Color-coding the clues by mission was a nice touch that helped me keep up with the story as it unfolded, I might lift that for my own arcs.
@Dark Phoenix wrote: Fun story. Very polished.
@Tubbius wrote: REALLY well done and well researched. Excellent arc.
@TheDeepBlue wrote: Neato
@Arctic Princess wrote: This was a great arc - I played it after playing your Aeon Challenge II arc! A lot of fun, quite difficult even on 0/1 setting with the EB and then Panzer but ultimately rewarding! 5 stars.

@DarklordDKL wrote: Awesome! Your best yet, IMO. Firecracker has some classic material!
@BackFire wrote: Nazi-smashing fun! Great attention to detail, fun dialogue, and a solid story. There was a lot more humor than I expected, but it didn't detract from the arc. Esp. liked the fight dialogue for Sherman and his turn to the dark side. Great touch! BTW- was able to solo the EB with a lvl 27 MA/WP scrapper
@Meatpiston wrote: Nice story and great dialog!
@Tragedy Redtear wrote: great depiction of the 5th column, the customs were well made and a lot of details about the faction came through indirectly in while playing. I don't speak German but i know enough to see that you knew what you were doing when writing the names and dialogue.. Nice job!

I loved your custom baddies in the last mission and would love to see more of them. It IS fun beating up Nazi's. >.> lol! 5 stars and another fantastic job!

Quote:Perhaps an arc named "Trademark Infringement" #2220 perhaps? You know what would be great? To have someone create an arc that uses a bunch of trademarked names that aren't in the filter, and also has a bunch of references to the common names that are blocked by the filter. Also, it would be nice (but somewhat time consuming) to see a complete list of common words blocked by the current filter.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but while I applaud anyone trying to promote/improve MA it should be clear to even the most uber of Dev supporters that MA is simple not a priority to them. We can and have spent years now promoting MA, suggesting fixes and offering data that has for the most part been ignored.
The Dev focus is clearly on the next booster pack that they can sell and since it's ultimately a business it's hard to argue that they are wrong for that. On the other hand, I canceled my other account six months ago and will never buy another booster pack until MA gets some attention. My husband, a seven year vet has decided to cancel his account after the last fiasco broke both of his arcs and several of mine (not to mention all the countless others of his friends here). I know from the boards here he is not alone. Maybe the MA community is such small potatoes that it's felt that the few subscriptions lost is not important to the big picture. Perhaps, but when a business, no matter what it is, starts to feel that it's OK to lose any of it's customers, they have started down a slippery slope.
