Note: I cleaned up some of the formatting and deleted any obviously broken URL tags for the sake of readability. I could not figure out how to fix the bullet color-coding.

2nd Note: I've had some problems when displaying this page while having the "Number of Posts to Show Per Page" set to a high number (in my case, 100 posts per page). This causes a programming error on the forum, leading to non-display due to the large amount of text in the posts. Drop your limit down to 20 posts to work around the issue. -Turg

Sadly, Venture got that wrong too, so you are basing your conclusions on incorrect information from someone who states they don't enjoy that type of humor anyways. News flash: Venture's opinion does not = fact.

This arc contains lowbrow humor. It may contain any or all of the following types of jokes:
Fart, poop, pee, sexual innuendo, inappropriate, socially or politically incorrect or any other
type of joke that is offensive and/or rude. Player discretion is advised.

Author's Life Advice - If you don't like something, it may be smart or prudent to avoid it.
If you go into a store and ask for a pint of chocolate ice cream, don't get mad or put it down when you
get home because it's not vanilla. That would be just silly and frustrating to you and the ice cream.

I can see how it would be difficult for you to tell what the arc might be about.

My feeling about In Poor Taste is that it reached the pinnacle of its potential when it received the Player’s Choice Award for Best Comedy of 09. I never had any delusions that it would ever be a Developer’s Choice and I fully realized that it is far too polarizing to make Hall of Fame. So, in this case, the rating is really meaningless (at least to me). I wrote it for my husband and for my sons. They love it, so mission accomplished.

As previously stated, the thing that I don’t understand is how a person can select anything that is clearly labeled as something they know they don’t like and then put it down for being exactly what it said it was in the first place. What is the point? A "review" from someone who get's no enjoyment from that form of humor and therefore has no real way to judge what is good or funny other than to say "I don't like this type of humor" is pointless.

Venture's review forum would have been better served if he simply had said, I chose not to review In Poor Taste because I don't like lowbrow humor.

  10. OK, the finishing touches are done. I have marked the arc "final" and I have officially submitted the arc. Now begins the dreaded waiting!

Win or loose I want to thank all the people that took the time to play my arc and for all the great feedback they provided me. The arc is vastly improved due to you all.

FYI for anyone that has not submitted it yet, when you send in your contest entry you get an "out of office" message back thanking you for your entry.

    WN
  11. Ok, I finished up some (hopefully) final tweaks. Still looking for any last minute feedback.

    WN
  12. Congratz! To the winners.

Having played the nominated arcs I must say it was an outstanding group of arcs the authors should be proud of them.

The "problem" and I use that term loosely, is that he knew full well that the arc was about low brow humor before he even played it. That type of humor is not his cup of tea, which is perfectly fine, but he played the arc anyways. Not only that, he then criticized it based on the fact that it contains lowbrow humor!

If I purchase country music knowing that I don't enjoy country music, can I really list in it's "offenses"- country music? Remember, I did not ask for a review of that arc, he picked it himself.

You say this like it is a statement of fact when the truth is that the arc wasn't funny to you. Since you clearly dislike lowbrow humor I can't imagine you liking the arc and you knew that before you decided to play it. Thankfully, the people that voted it Comedy Arc of 09 in the Player's Choice Awards must have thought it was funny.

  17. I spent over ten hours today totally redoing the final mission of this arc. I did it because of some of the feedback I got over the last day or so. I am really happy with the changes made, though since I have added so many details there is always a chance for bugs to sneak in. If you find one please send me a tell in game or a PM (again to avoid spoilers). Thanks to all who have provided me feedback so far, it has been a great help.

  19. Thanks for playing/reviewing it. I do have to comment (of course...lol).

You listed the arcs offenses as disjointed level range and lowbrow humor.

    1) The level range was M1: 30-40, M2: 30-40 and M3: 35-40. The arc was published before you could set the level range so I got it as close as I could. I never thought or noticed the difference until you pointed it out and it took a grand total of 30 seconds to fix and republish.

    2) Lowbrow humor as an offense on an arc designed solely to be about lowbrow humor seems, well, unfair. It is clear from the description that the arc is all about lowbrow humor
so I am not sure why of all my arcs you picked it.

For me personally, this is exactly why I no longer request reviews. Having 2 stars deducted from an arcs rating because of something that takes 30 seconds to change and because the arc aptly meets the criteria it sets for itself seems to pointlessly damage the arc's rating to me.
