  1. I'm no match geek, but as someone who (when working with simple hyperbolic graphs in high school geometry) wondered "Just how far could someone take these types of equations?" This makes me VERY happy
  2. First, I have to acknowledge the amount of work and thought that went into that post. That obviously took a lot of effort.

I'd say Kinetic Melee fits with Energy Aura. Energy Aura's sound/visual effects are mostly shared with the "Kinetics" buff/debuff set, and Energy Aura's secondary effects are more along the lines of Kinetics. Energy Melee is the outlier, despite sharing the word "Energy" in the name.

I would argue that Thermal goes with Demon Summoning. Much of Demons are fiery, both visually and in effect, so that should work.

For most of the others, I think the crux of it is "How would we make a complimentary powerset?"

-In my opinion, a Radiation secondary for Blasters should be possible utilizing a number of existing powers (from other sets or NPC moves), but a Sound Manipulation would probably be harder to do.

-To compliment Defenders' Kinetics, you need a Kinetic Blast set, one that would have a unique secondary effect from the other blast sets. The only thing left out there is "-DMG" which could, in theory, be conceptually worked out as "the life you take from your opponent boosts your own." However, a set like that has a LOT of potential to become overpowered, especially if it was proliferated to Blasters (for which, as a ranged set, there would be a demand). Then your left with another unmatched Blaster primary...

Those are just a couple examples, but I hope they illustrate my point. As someone who's characters have matching primary/secondaries almost exclusively, trust me when I say I would love to see those "conceptual holes" filled in (I am still hopeful that they may release an ice themed Ancillary power pool for Defenders one day...). As it is, I think some of them would be quite difficult to fill. But who knows? Perhaps with the launch of Freedom, some of those sets may become a reality.
  3. This. Is. Awesome.

Kudos to you Backfire for actually giving the guy a chance and not writing him off as an obnoxious noob. I sincerely hope that this is what transpires once Freedom launches, and we veteran players get to accompany the new people in their discovery of the game.

Psh, I can't ever watch the damn thing, so I don't pay attention to when it starts! I just read the cliff notes, haha.
  5. Y'know, before I clicked on it, I said to myself, "Huh, bAss doesn't usually transcribe these... maybe VK couldn't make it on today." I been had.

    Fire/Fire Help

I am of a very similar mind, bsides. I love blasters for the blasting, and I have yet to make a "blapper." I ran into the same problem when started up my Fire/Fire because, as you say, the secondary is very heavy with the close-range attacks. First off, if you truly "don't like Fire Manipulation," I suggest taking Stratonexus's suggestion and re-rolling. After all, there is no point in playing a toon which you don't really like.

However, if you are married to the "matching primary/secondary powersets" (another thing about which I can highly empathize) then I suggest dipping into some other power pools, ones that you don't necessarily want to heavily slot, but may provide good opportunities for things. Some examples:
    • Fighting: Take Boxing and Tough to get you to Weave, which can help your defense.
    • Leadership: Take Maneuvers, something else, and Vengeance. You never have to run Maneuvers or Assault/Tactics (which ever you choose), Vengeance is a great power to use on teams, and both Maneuvers and Vengeance provide a great one-and-done slotting opportunity for Luck of the Gambler: +7.5% Recharge.
    • Concealment: Not sure if your concept would allow for it, but I have never been disappointed when taking Stealth or Invisibility. I always manage to find them useful.

    Hopefully you find something useful!

Oh for sure. You have a few months, since no one is really expecting Issue 21 before some time in October. Go get the Incarnate goodies!
  8. Would be cool, that's for sure. But I think Dechs is right. But hey, I'd be down to have Rularuu Wings in-game. Maybe throw the idea in "All Things Art?"
  9. For pool/ancillary/patron power customization, we've been told that they know that we want it badly, but they do not have a clear answer of when we'll actually see it. I will say with a fair amount of certainty "Not until next year, at the earliest."

We've heard nothing about weapon redraw (so far as I know).

Stratonexus summed up Incarnate powers nicely, except for Alpha, but that goes along with what he said. Choose your power based on your build, whatever suits you best.

Also, just as a heads up, blasters have some new stuff coming once Issue 21 and CoH Freedom launch, including (but not limited to):
    • Dark Blast (free with i21)
    • Dark Manipulation (free with i21)
    • Beam Rifle (New purchasable primary power set coming with Freedom)
  11. Hey all,

I play the game on my laptop, and the tech specs are pretty average, so I play with the graphics on the "recommended" setting, without Ultra Mode. But one thing I have been missing out on is the "glow" part of glowing costume pieces like the Resistance gloves/chest detail. Does anyone know what specific Ultra Mode settings need to be engaged for those to be visible, so that I can engage those, while skipping others, and hopefully not compromise my performance too much?
  12. I really like Maelstrom. The powers, the back story, the look... it all works for me.

Though they have yet to make into the game: Spark Blade and Rose Star, based on their concept art, look fantastic.

Finally, just some classics of which I'm fond: Manticore, Ghost Widow, Black Scorpion, Nightstar, and Noble Savage. Honestly, the first time I saw Noble Savage, I was just like, "What the EFF?"

I love that you will at least entertain an idea! Admittedly, the "copyright infringement" idea had occurred to me, considering that Iceman's ice slide is a very specific mode of transportation (pretty much exclusive to him) as opposed to, say, flying.

In that case, perhaps a variation on the previously suggested rock-surfing idea: A chunk of ice, perhaps with similar geometry as the Ice option of the "Elemental Shields" in Shield Defense. Then it could have a trail tagged onto it, some happy medium between the Vaporous aura, Cryogenic aura, and the upcoming Light path aura. I know that still isn't very "low hanging fruit" but is that any more feasible?

The complication with this idea is making it look right. You have to remember that this would just be a model added on to the power, it would not have any unique movement qualities of its own. So it would move just like the character can move, much of which would not make sense. Strafing is physically impossible on a motorcycle, and the way your character can shift directions really would not be possible on a motorcycle. Yes, we play a game that is all about suspension of disbelief, but there are some basic lines that need to be maintained.

Snowzone got there before I could. I have been waiting for an Ice Slide for a while, but the Frost path aura doesn't quite do it. The "model beneath the feet" would be formless, meaning that we can tell there is something there but it isn't necessarily solid (kind of like the Prestige Power Slide). Then it would have some sort of trail after it, probably like the Frost path aura (to save on animation creation time) but it would work in the sky unlike the current Frost path aura (only works on the ground).

My second character ever made, which ended up being my second 50, is an elec^3 blaster. My biggest complaint was always the lack of the "High DMG" ST blast that is present in most other blast sets. I think adding a chaining effect to Voltaic Sentinel, and maybe a chance to chain to the T1 and T2 powers, would be a great improvement to the set.

Actually, it has sparked much conversation. "Conversion" is something the Circle of Thorns do to normal citizens.

I agree that they should probably be prevalent throughout the level range OR have their description changed. However, that description was written back at inception, probably to show that the Thorn Wielders were a step up from the Defender/Archer/Guard type minions, but still minions.

Wait, you mean, there are people out there who still try to eat and drink while reading a topic by Steelclaw? Has history taught you nothing?! I gave up trying to do that long ago; my monitor and keyboard have been substance-free for months.

I'm not sure I would want the glow effect on them. I would certainly want them to be a stark white, visible with any mask, but I would not want all my characters to have glowy eyes.

I feel like the easiest place to put this would be in Detail 1 (Detail 2 on Full Mask heads). Otherwise, it seems like every mask would need a "white eyes" option, which sounds like more work in my head.

If you are referring to his spelling of "organization," it is not a typo. If I am not mistaken, OminousVoice is from "the other side of the pond," and in much of Europe (the British Isles especially), the "z" sound in a word like "organization" is actually spelled with an "s."

I'll sign this idea! My dislike for their costumes notwithstanding, I agree that they need a back story.
  21. Fingers, if only inarticulate fingers, would be cool, I don't take notice of my hands too much. And there are certain gloves that look more like mittens than others. But that facepalm emote makes it REALLY obvious...
  22. I loved Citadel. Positron was great as well.

Somehow I don't picture States as the "go grab a brewski" type of guy. That said, the mere image of him suggesting that is very funny.

Zwillinger, c'mon man! I corrected myself in the post you quoted! *pulls out gangsta voice* You copyin' me or sumthin'?!

Was this due to that "no caffeine yet" problem you were having with your earlier posts?
  24. I wouldn't mind seeing more concept art to start the buzz going early in the process, and of course that would provide an opportunity to get early feedback from the community.

That said, I do not think the Devs should post all of their concepts for public viewing, nor do I think they should feel obligated to do so. Something to remember is that a concept is just a beginning idea, and could very easily change in transition from paper to computer screen. Another thing to remember is that a nearly-universal reaction to something (like CoT costumes to which this thread is responding) rarely happens. This is definitely an exceptional case, the magnitude of which should definitely be taken into account with specific regard to the subject at hand, but by no means warrants a "new way of doing things" so to speak.
