  1. I prefer ATs that have a specific finesse. A Blaster needs to be mindful of its aggro and positioning. A Tanker is responsible for holding aggro and living through it. A Stalker should be dealing large amounts of surprise, burst damage.

Brutes, and Scrappers to an extent (Scrapperlock) really don't require as much finesse in my opinion. Running from mob to mob and standing there while I kill everything as it tries to kill me is too one-dimensional for me. There's nothing wrong with that style of play, it just isn't my style.
  2. Two crucial points that Alpha covered:

-No one cares if sheaths and holsters static. In fact, I am fine with the weapons always being present. The point is so that my Dual Pistols character can stand around with pistols on his hips in non-combat.

-Revamping old content IS new content. Plain and simple. You proved this with the Circle of Thorns, Galaxy City, Dark Astoria (and its enemies).
  3. Thor: Take care how you speak. Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard. And he is my brother.
Natasha Romanoff: He killed 80 people in 2 days.
    Thor: ...He's adopted.

Also, pretty much any interaction between Cap and Coulson.
  4. Indeed. He passed away far to young. I intend to honor his death by continuing to fight for my right to party.

Unfortunately, this universe. The one thing to remember is that this game has to cater to novice as well as experienced gamers, power gamers as well as role players, and everyone in between.

What you're describing is actually possible to do, you would just need a couple of things:
    • A group of people willing to go about an invasion/ship raid event in an abnormal fashion.
    • Someone willing to give instructions/orders on-the-fly.
I'll use the ship raid as an example. Instead of everyone destroying the pylons together, you split into 2 groups, each going opposite ways around the ship taking half the pylons each. The bomb phase would probably proceed normally, since there's not much variation to be had there. Then (assuming you have a full league) perhaps you split into three groups (2 balanced teams each), and "target" different areas of the ship. There will be an added challenge due to the smaller numbers in one area, as well as a higher level of necessary coordination.

It is possible, just need the right people (or the right warning to people joining). Unfortunately though, the majority of gamers prefer the rewards-to-time-invested ratio to weigh heavily on the former. Thus, we get zone events that can be done intricately, but are simple enough to "sit 'n smash" if that's what the league wants.

On a personal note, I do not fall into that category. I designed an entire Vanguard-spinoff SG based on exactly what you are describing (see signature for details). So, if you (Oz) organized a "special" run of some sort of event or whatnot that incorporated a lot of this, I would be down. I am sitting on 6 character transfers, so I could go to any server on which it would be happening.

Ah yes, correct on both points. The sale on Street Justice is on-par with the sale that Beam Rifle had a few months after its initial release.

Penelope Yin is a Signature NPC. Players generally do not get access to Signature NPC costume pieces. So, "signs point to no."

I think he was saying that it is nice to see a purchase-only power set on sale again, considering the only other one we have seen is Beam Rifle for one week, and that was months ago, and that putting other things on sale was a waste of time (in his opinion).

Personally, I think they are now seeing what sales get people to spend their points, considering that we have seen a lot of high-demand items on sale recently: character slots, inventory slots, and this week a power set, costume, and useful inherent power.

This. I suppose if I ever played an Empath seriously, I might keep Healing Aura on auto, but the above applies to me in any other situation.
  10. I swore I would not buy Street Justice until it went on sale. You do that TODAY, the day my points just happen to roll over, and I will have just enough to purchase the set. And I suppose it is just pure coincidence that the Nemesis invasion also happens to start TODAY? One big plot to get my points, I tell you!

With the jet packs coming with the Retro Sci-Fi pack being a must-purchase for me, I have to hope Water Blast is at least 2 months (stipend rollovers) away.
  11. I love my Sonic/Sonic Defender, but that's really the only Defender I've been able to get behind. (I screwed myself by falling in love with Blasters, and now I can't help but compare the high damage of ranged attacks off Blasters to the lower damage coming from Defenders.)

Why don't more people play Defenders? 2 reasons: The majority of the population is not happy with their character's primary purpose being Buff/Debuff, and/or players fail to understand that Buff/Debuff is a Defender's primary purpose, and then get turned off by the low damage output and write the archetype off all together. A similar statement can be made for why people prefer to play Brutes over Tankers, since a Tanker's primary purpose is survival and aggro management.
  12. Barely 5 teams last night, but still an overall smooth run! I have to compliment our Taunters who, despite our depleted number, enabled the league to gain quite a bit in terms of rewards. Also, the bomb phase is getting increasingly smoother, so thanks for following those directions. Everyone who shows up to these makes them enjoyable, and I am glad people still enjoy coming out for them.

    Updated for this coming week!

I used to be of the same mind. Searching for an adversary, the thrill of the hunt... I loved it. Then I got ganked by a Stalker three times in a row. That was the end of PvP for me.

As for the OP's idea, I would definitely give it a shot. I find cause and effect in-game to be utterly fascinating and engaging.
  14. Thank you thank you thank you!

I am 14 months away from just reaching Tier 9, let alone getting anything there. And as much as I want to fund the studio, I just cannot afford to drop the money needed for the reward tokens. Knowing that these things will eventually be available to someone like me, who has to be content with his single monthly reward token, is wonderful. Much appreciated.

*Prays, probably in vain, the "alternative method" is not an exorbitant amount of any certain kind of merits...*

The VIP starter kit, can that be applied to a Free account to upgrade it, or is it just a fresh new account? They've been on Free for a few weeks, got to about lvl 20 or so and are looking at going VIP, this would be a good entry for them to do so.

Get started with the VIP experience by purchasing this VIP Starter Kit, which includes one month of VIP Game Time for new City of Heroes Freedom players! This kit includes a serial code for the creation of a new account, access to City of Heroes and City of Heroes Going Rogue, as well as the aforementioned month of VIP Game Time!
Last time they did this, at Freedom Launch, it required the creation of a brand new account. Judging by the way they phrased this, it would seem the same applies this time around.
  16. Last night was great, Pinnacle! It was definitely the smoothest run I can recall having in a while. I noticed very few deaths overall, the team stayed tight and placed the bombs quickly, and the taunters were definitely doing a great job pulling from the perimeter. Really, I can't ask for much else. Well done, all.

    Updated for this week!

I remember reading on the Beta forums that aside from adding the standard wood, metal, and shiny metal options, there was not room in the schedule for developing any other models prior to the release of the set. Whether or not we'll see a weapons pack released at a later date remains to be seen.

  19. Sounds like a server lag issue. Something similar happened when I released one of my names for someone else not too long ago. I deleted the toon, logged in and told the player that the name was free, and then they came back 2 minutes later saying they could not get it. Upon trying again after a few minutes, they were able to get the name.

On a side-note: what aura? The only one I know of that was once on the market but is no longer there is the bats from the Halloween pack.

There is a big reason for me.

Another big reason is that, when I exit the mission, I am back in the same old building. The world of the game is enormous, and I have discovered that half of my fun is traversing the city/landscape to mission doors. In AE, it's like I am playing a video game where my character is playing a video game, and that's just a little strange to me.

I have played some fantastically written arcs in AE, and have even returned to a couple for a second round on a different character. But again, spending my character's "life" in one building makes me feel like I am missing out on so much more.
  21. As for Scrapper vs. Stalker:

The numbers are going to vary a lot. Scrappers get Eye of the Storm at level 6, Stalkers: not until 18. Scrappers get Staff Mastery and an extra AoE attack (Innocuous Strikes). Stalkers get Build Up and Assassin's Staff in conjunction with Assassin's Focus.

All things considered, the sets are well designed for the archetypes. The Stalker version is more focused on burst damage on single targets, while the Scrapper is more focused on sustained damage on multiple targets. If a play style better suits you, go with that. Or, base your decision on what each version brings.

For my own part, I find Staff Mastery to be obnoxious, so I will be rolling a Stalker so that I can reap the benefits of Form of the Body (which is inherent to the Stalker version) without having to take Staff Mastery as a power pick.

Yes, they did. Last week, the SFX on Beta sounded like a hybrid between the soft sounds that were initially released and a very dumbed down version of the "trash can party." Frankly, I don't see how to nail this one, since a wooden staff is going to sound very different than a metal pole/pipe. But the most recent round of SFX at least sounded like they were from our realm of reality.
  23. QR to the OP: It manifests a negative competitive attitude towards other players for me. If I want to trash talk and compete with other players, I will play Halo or CoD.

Also, getting ganked by obnoxious Stalkers one too many times may have had something to do with turning me off of PvP. (Not that all Stalkers are obnoxious, I happen to love the archetype.)
  24. The usual full league last night, good showing Pinnacle! Saw a handful of newcomers as well, which is always great. A big thanks to everyone for their patience while we set all 6 bombs. Even ended up with some people getting the badge last night! Looking forward to next week!

    Updated.
