Quote:/Agreed and shennanigans can only be fought with.. MORE SHENNANIGANS!A quick look at your other posts shows an ability to communicate. I call shennanigans on this thread.
Okay you won game?.. what you do now? Sam ting every football player type person from American Football do when win Super type Bowl. You go to DISNEYLAND
Alternate possibilities:
Retire and write your autobiography. Then wait for Hollywood to offer you millions to turn it into a sumer blockbuster.
Retire and get a job as color commentator for the new Arena Match television show.
I hear that Statesman passed away Maybe you should submit a resume and see if you can become the new leader of the Freedom Phalanx?
You was perhaps hero type person? Now days you can switch up the sides. Become big bad villian type and play until you win game again.
If you are not there already.. Move your character to the Virtue server and head to Atlas Park. Spend your days hanging out under the statue of Atlas and run the occasional costume contest. lol I play on Virtue and this can actually become a full time job since THERE IS ALMOST ALWAYS A CC GOING IN ATLAS. -
Quote:On the last few ITFs I've run, the AVs are all running around relatively quickly.
Today, I pulled Requiem and Rom with a Stalker, using melee attacks. I jumped up on the platform and hit them both, and hopped down to the computer. They followed me. I managed to land an AS on Requiem, and he immediately tried to flee. The initial hit and the AS were the only attacks on him. Likewise with Romulus. The initial hit to pull him, and then a Crushing Uppercut when we were on lower ground.
The same happened with the Nictus version. After only a few hits from my Stalker, and our Scrapper, he began running. He quickly did an about-face and got pummeled by the team, but after his first rez, he began running away all over the platform after the initial 2-3 hits.
I noticed the same behaviour two days ago on another ITF, except the first instance of Romulus didn't attempt to flee, but Requiem ran like he was on fire. My attacks were the only ones that landed, as the rest of the team was fighting the computer at the time. Nictus-Rom also tried to run. On this TF, it was the same issue... running away almost immediately.
In the other few runs I've done in the last week, they did run, but did so when their health was much lower. In the incidents where they fled immediately, the team lacked Tankers/Brutes, which led a teammate to theorize that there was no taunting mechanism keeping them reined in. In the incidents where they fled after much more damage had been dealt, we had a Tanker or a Brute... so I am wondering if the teammate was correct.
Anecdotal as it may be, I had seldom seen these particular AVs attempt to flee, even when the teams had no taunt, or damaged them far more quickly.
I'm curious did your team have a tank or brute to taunt? I've seen this same thing in the final mission of the ITF before and it was on a team with no dedicated aggro controller. Aside from chasing Romi all over the place we really had no difficulty in defeating him and since then I have told numerous people... You don't really need a tank to win on the ITF but it does make life easier since Romulus doesn't run away every five seconds. -
Quote:It would be nice if they could adjust it so that special enemies will never run, like the guards in your example or named bosses, and especially giant monsters. It's just plain silly when I try to solo scrapyard with my level 30 corruptor and he runs away.
Most of the Giant Monsters stay and fight but there have always been a few that would move around...
Deathsurge has actually calmed down from the way he was when i first started. We used to have to chase him all over to finally defeat him
Kraken doesn't move around a lot but I can still recall one instance where he decided to head into the trees in Perez. No I don't mean down one of the pathways.. He climbed on top of the tree cover and that's where we finally defeated him.
Lusca has always been a moving target. Defeat one tentacle and she submerges and you get to start hunting for where she is next.
Babbage likes to run around and even hop from street level to the top of warehouses in Skyway.
I don't really recall Adamastor, at least when we still found him in what is now the Echo of DA, moving around too much but I did battle him one time and at some point he hopped up onto the ledge of the War Wall and we defeated him there.
Most of them will move around at least some during a fight especially if you have a tank or brute with good taunt and they follow where ever that character goes. -
Quote:With sidekicking, what exactly is the problem with being a few levels off?
Not that I hope the LP doesn't return, just curious as to why it matters.
Have to agree Brand.. I tried level pact when it first arrived. I had a friend that I teamed with a lot and figured that way would could always stay the same level even though there were times when I was on and he wasn't and visa versa. Unfortunately then he had pc problems and for more than a month I was the only one playing. This resulted in me leveling MUCH slower than other players since half my XP was going to him. Another issue .. Both of use were badgers I got to a point where I stopped playing the character at all because I felt guilty about making it more difficult for him to earn certain badges. We finally just agreed to end the pact and move on.
Today I can take a 49 level and team with a group of 10 levels and still make the same xp I'd get teaming with a group of 49 or 50s. The days of spending 20-30 minutes trying to match up a high level character with a lower level so EVERYONE gets XP are long gone .. so exactly why do we need leveling pacts? -
Of course we have neglected the other aspect of this situation. Okay how many times have you gone to the market and tried to buy a piece of salvage you needed to finish off an enhancement and see something like this:
5/26/2012 500
5/26/2012 500
5/26/2012 50,000
5/26/2012 500
5/25/2012 500
and sure enough as soon as ONE person screws up and seriously overbids and buys an item everyone immediately assumes it wasn't a screw up but a new interest in that salvage and UPS the price? Fortunately do to altitis I have 46 characters on Virtue alone and storage for salvage in all 4 of the SGs I run. I will just start logging on other characters and email myself the salvage before I start playing bidding war games. -
Quote:Anyone notice that mobs seem to run away... ALOT. Been playing my crab since I12 launch and it seems like just about everything runs and its quite annoying.
EDIT--- This happened when I was fighting scrapyarder as well... Basically he ran instantly.
I know what you are saying and it can be annoying but I honestly think its by design. At one point I can recall certain enemy groups never ran.. Freakshow would stand and fight till they dropped while we are all aware that COT will turn and run .. so will Longbow. At some point they changed the AI and now all groups will run if their hit points drop below a certan level or whatever factors they use.
Yeah its annoying but its also realistic. You the last guy standing, all your buddies are out cold on the floor, and your in bad shape. Would you stand there and be a punching bag or run off and hope to get away? One thing I have noticed is the runners in many cases head straight to the closest friendly mob and if you are following you just walked right into an ambush probably at less than 100% health and/or endurance. Tricky little %^%^$%^$%^ are they?
Like I said I honestly think it was an idea they thought out and did on purpose. Your a lowly minon in a gang and a hero is beating you senseless... At some point your going to say. "The heck with this" and RUN. Or your that crafty minon that takes a beating and then pretends to run away so the hero follows and walks straight into a trap!
HOLY LITTLE BIG HORN BATMAN! We just ran straight into an ambush!hehehe
Now there are instances where this goes from being realistic to being a total pain in the A--. If a mission requires me to rescue Mr. X and during a heated battle one of Mr. X's gaurds takes off and disappears and I now spend 10 minutes or more trying to FIND that guard we have gone from adding realism to ticking me off completely. And it gets worse when we search everywhere and simply can't locate our missing guard and find ourselves either contacting a GM or startng the mission over completely. -
It all depends on what you want for a particular character or all your incarnates. Like you I have already purchased all of the emotes, costume pieces etc I desire with them.
Astrals will buy you Alpha openers (5 astrals) saving a new character from doig the Mender arc or running missions just to open that slot.
Astrals, as you alread mentioned, but threads (4 per astral which is the exact amount they convert for away from the store).
Astrals can be used to purchase rare recipes that can either be used to boost your own characters strength or be sold at the market for added Influence/Infamy.
Astrals can be used to purchase the new ATOs that are arch type specific. I have only done this once or twice but I believe it's 55 astrals per ATO. Of course these also can be used to improve you character's strengths and abilities.
Empyreans can eb coverted to threads (its been a while since I did this but I believe the rate is 18 per emp.. in game an emp converts to 20 threads).
Empyreans can be used to purchase Very rare or PvP recipes that can bolster your characters.
Now to answer your question about using them to buy rares or VRs..
If you don't have the required components and are attempting to build a rare for threads you need:
1 of each type of Uncommon components. UNC cost 60 threads each to build for 4 X 60 + 240 threads
You also need to use an addidional 100 threads to craft a rare so 240+100= 340 threads.
And lastly you need to use 25 million in INF to craft that rare
You can BUY a rare with 8 emps. 8 Empyreans = 160 threads so buying the rare with emps saved you 180 threads and 25 million in INF.
using those figures we can move on to crafting or buying a very rare
A VR requires 4 rares and we know it takes 340 thread and 25 million to craft 1 rare so 4 would cost 1340 threads and 100 m,illion in INF.
You can BUY a VR with 30 EMPS and again an emp = 20 threads so thirty of them would be like spending 600 threads.
Buying the VR with emps saved you 740 threads and 100 million in INF. Now to put that into perspective.. to slot a power to t1 requires 3 commons which require 60 threads to build. You could slot 4 powers to Tier one with a total of 240 threads. To slot a power to T2 requires 2 commons and 1 uncommon which requires 100 threads to buils. You could slot those same 4 powers to tier 2 for an addition 400 threads. So by purchasing that 1 Very Rare with Emps you saved enough to slot four powers to tieir 2 and still had 100 threads left over. -
Congratulations and welcome to the wonderul world of "Holy Sh&%^$%^^ I added too many zeros!"
I have had this happen to me once .. Not as profitably as you but I did get 100 Mil for an item selling for and advertised for 10 Mil. Since it was impossible to locate the poor individual that simply could not stop hitting 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 ... I donated the extra 90 mil to help feed and clothe poor neglected heroes still in those lower levels.. In other words I gave the extra cash to my low level alts.
I'd be willing to bet this happens quite a bit and there are probably quite a few players that are either the poor soul that added a zero to many or the lucky one that collected a TON more than expected for a sale. -
Okay I debated about if i really even cared enough to respond to this but ultimately I decide to do so.
Let's start with this ...,. Yes I do understand that the City of heroes/Villains is a MMOPRG
Now that said as far as the bright red bold text interfering with GAME PLAY. Let's try to define what that means shall we. I know a LOT of players in this game, and I play on Virtue the unofficial RP server, that have never once in all the time they have been associated with it role played. It is extremely possible to PLAY the game from level 1 to Level 50, go to Dark Astoria and participate in Incarnate trials until all of your powers are Tier 4 and not once EVER EVER participate in a role playing session. And the last one of the events I was on line during took place while I was running trials in DA and I don't RECALL it affecting us at all as we breezed through a TPN.
Now much as the OP and others may enjoy standing around role playing and they have every right to do so.. it has absolutely nothing to do actually participating in game content and advancing a character.
Next let's look back at when the Nemesis invasions began.. After a few days the moaning and griping began that the invasion wasn't interactive enough, it was just the rikti invasion with different mobs and WHY WHY couldn't the devs do something to make it more exciting. SO Zwilliger and Frietag started events where Nemesis himself actually taunts those trying to repel his forces and, having participated in one, they send in multiple GM versions of the Brass Prince to liven things up a bit. Now I am not on line 24 hours a day 7 days a week but I play a LOT and to date I have seen a grand total of 2 special events involving the bright red text. While at times it does seem like the invasions go on forever .. trust me I spent 20 minutes on a Numina a week or so ago while they attacked Kings Row... Its not like a Dev run event is popping up and filling our screens with Spam every hour on the hour.
Basically what it comes down to is the old adage that you simply can't please all of the people all of the time. While those BIG BOLD RED LETTER Events annoy you they are providing someone else with added entertainment while they battle the Nemesis invaders. to put it another way and use a popular signature line from the forums.. If the Devs handed out stacks of 20 dollar bills to players half would complain because the serial numbers were non sequencial and the other half would complain they were not random enough.
Lastly try to think back a couple years agio, if you have been around that long, how often did you see let alone get to interact with ANY Developer? The quick answer is one or two MIGHT show up around the Winter Holiday or other special events in Pocket D and hand out a few Yellow titles and answer a couple of questions. Then Zwilliger arrived and suddenly we have a Dev that will just show up out of the blue and unleash a hord of Winter Lords all over the RWZ, along with several other Devs show up and help host a fashion show in Port Oakes, show up in Recluse Victory and play hide and seek ... and thats just a few off the top of my head. We have a couple of realy proactive Customer Reps that genuinely seem to enjoy interacting with us. Now considering how most big buisnesses treat their customers can anyone honestly say they HATE what we have now?
If you can't stand looking at the text LOG off for 30 minutes and it will be gone. -
Quote:No, it's not important at all to have a level shift in BAF/Lam. The later ones, sure, especially the newer they get you want multiple shifts.
When the incarnate system was new, NO ONE had level shifts and yet we still completed things just fine. Now at least half the league will have 1-3 level shifts, making things much, much easier.
I spent the entire time on my two natural 50s (meaning no level shifts) doing things, healing/attacking/buffing/debuffing. I don't know what you're doing if you expect to have fun by doing nothing. Of course that would be boring. So don't do that.
TOTALLy AGREE.. sorry Gob but lets face facts here at some point all of us had nothing open but Alpha were doing BAF and LAM will little or no problem. That 1 level shift does very little to change the fact that everything is purple. I have been on a DD recently with a 50 + 0 Staff Weapons Brute and was doing damage to bosses. I don;t hink I'd want to SOLO a 54 +2 Boss with a 50 + 0 but I didn't die once and was able to add damage to the league overall effect...
Stlll As I said before till you get a level shift or two I'd stay with the BAF/LAM/KEYES .. you might hop on a TPN just don't expect to take out Justine Beiber... er I mean ... Maelstrom without MUCH MUCH help -
Quote:Just to expand a bit...I've been to the astral store a few times to buy costumes and whatnots for a while. Only recently did I see I could unlock Alpha slot with Atrals for another character. My stalker ran a BAF, purchased the coupon, my tank became incarnate by opening an email.
Yes you can go to Ouroborus and purchase an Alpha slot for another character with 5 astrals.
You can also use astrals or Rmpyreans to purchase threads and any other character can claim them via email. And you can puirchase IXP with threads.... I have incarnates that opened their Alpha slot with a token, opened their Judgement, Lore, Interface and Destiny with threads and then slotted all five powers to level 2 before ever doing a single trial.
COSTS:
Alpha slot ..... 5 Astrals
Judgement slot .... 30 threads and 30 million INF
Lore Slot ..... 45 threads and 45 million INF
Interface Slot .. 30 threads and 30 million INF
Destiny Slot ... 45 threads and 45 million INF
T1 enhancer in each slot ... 60 threads per power for a total of 300 threads (20 threads per common X 3)
T2 enhancer in each slot ... 100 threads for a total of 500 threads (20 threads per common x 2 and 60 threads per uncommon X 1)
Its a bit expensive compared to simply running trials and earning threads and components but if you have a lot of incarnate and astrals you no longer need ... why not? -
Let's start with this.. while you can do the Mendor arc and save a bit of time even that isn't required now.. you can earn IXP to open the Alpha slot doing trials just like all of the other.. My own opinion... do the arc. Its faster that running trials to open Alpha and one less you need to worry about
There is no set oreder you HAVE to run trials in .. basically I'd go with whatever is being formed at the time. Now starting out you may want to stick to the earlier trials like BAF, Lambda and keyes since they are easier to do and designed for new players with no level shifts... That doesn't mean you can't join a Diabolique Trial but keep in mind even the minons are 54+2 so if you are 50 +0 the chance you hit anything are a lot less that on a BAF.
The TPN isn't too bad for newer characters and when successful you walk away with better than 60 threads, 4-5 astrals and 2 emps along with your end bonus salvage. The Underground trial is the same and the payoff is even better .. figure on 8-10 astrals, 2 emps, more than 60 threads and a gaurentee of a rare or ver rare bit of salvage. Big thing with the UG is it takes about an hour which is twice as long as any other trial and a certain number of players need the right destiny (CLARION) for it to succeed.
For those times you cant find a league do the arcs in DA. They are quick , interesting and most require you to defeat an EB or two at the end. This will help open up powers (IXP) and at the end of each arc you get a choice of threads, salvage, or merits. All the arcs can be run over and over through Ouroborus so you CAN get all three from any arc all in one day.
As you gain powers and eventually level shifts you can do any and all of the trials as they form. Have fun and welcome to the Incarnate ranks -
I have enjoyed watching his films for years... A tribute may be in order!
Okay all Martail Arts, Kinetic Melee, Staff Weapons, Dual Blades, Katana, Street Justice and let's include Dual Pistols (Gunfu). Assemble in Atlas park for a torch held tribute to JC. It's the least we can do half our moves probably came from some Dev watching him work! -
Quote:I think I've only ever seen a DFB team specifically not want to get Corpse Counter maybe once. It's a stupidly easy badge to get and anyone who doesn't want to make the "effort" at helping someone else get it is not worth teaming with under any circumstances and should be immediately one-starred (and possibly placed on global ignore).
As for Brotherly Love, yeah that one is just a pain. The DFB badges had the right idea, tasks that are pretty easy to get while still requiring you to know what to do (as opposed to getting the badge passively). True, Corpse Counter can be ruined by one idiot with AoEs, but then the same can be said of almost any cooperative badge.
Corpse Counter can be amazingly simple if you have someone that can taunt. A while back the tank on a run told everyone to stay put after we took out the last mob that spawns the AV.... He went down alone and came back with the AV following. Not a single Cadaver followed and we were able to use ALL of our attacks and easily earn the badge. Just another lesson players can learn.. how to properly use your TANK lol -
Since they released Ninja Run ... hop to the top of a building and see how far I can get in a particular zone without ever touching ground.
Sight seeing in the Shadow Shard.. not badge hunt, although I have done that too, just flying around checking out the various floating islands
Someone else mentioned it .. street hunts for badges. Keeping and eye on globals in case anything interesting comes up while I take out enough Skulls, Hellions, Clockwork, Lost, Vahzilok and COT to earn all the defeat badges in Perez Park or take my Vigilante to Sharkshead and work on COT Bosses, Cold Demons, Freakshow Tanks, BP Spirits and COT Mages. -
Okay Obviously to get Task Force Commander you are required to complete:
Positron 1 and 2 this will also give you the 100 defeats (Clockwork gears) required for Gearsmasher which is one of the requirements for Freedom Phalanx Reserve Member
Synapse which is all clockwork so if you do it before POSI you get gearsmasher that way
Sister Psyche which is mostly Freakshow and can get you the 100 Bosses required for tank Buster .. another of the required defeat badges for Freedom Phalanx
Citadel .. all Council and will get you a few Vamprii and Warwolves but not enough for Silver Bullet or Slayer
Manticore which is all Crey.. you will battle enough Paragon Protectors for that badge which is a requirement for Conspiracy Theorist Accolade (the Freeze Pistol)
and Numina
Now as someone else mentioned do Moonfire which will give you all the Warwolves and Vamprii you need to fulfill that requirement for the ATlas Medallion. Of course you are going to need to collect all of the required Exploration badges and History plaques along with the mission badges to compete the requirements for the Accolade (see the Wiki and/or Vidiotmaps to learn what is needed and where to loacte those.
That leaves you with one BIG hurdle to get past to have completed all the requirements for the Atlas Medallion. Freedom Phalanx Reserve Member and Task Force Commander... defeat 100 Fake Nemesis and earn the Unveiler badge to complete the requirements for Freedom Phalanx. there is no TF, Trial or mission arc that contains enough of these to get the badge and most people wind up stret hunting to get them. The two spots available to find these are Peregrine Island and the Shadow Shard. Now in the past 2 weeks I have managed to obtain Unveiler on 3 different characters by joining league battling Nemesis invasions so until the end of May that is another QUICK way to get those.
Okay that leaves you with Portal Jockey. If you start working toward this goal at level 40 ... do Tina McIntyre's arc and you will get credit for defeating Anti Matter, Nueron, and Maurader. NOTE: If you decide to work toward this late and Tina isn't available you can do her arc as a Time travel mission through Ouroborus. At 45 grab Maria Jenkins and start doing mission... Her arc will get you credit for Chimera, Bobcat, Nueron, Maurader, Nightstar, Diabolique, Infernal, Dominatrix, Black Swan, Battle Madien, Mother Mayhem and Malaise. individual missions wil from Maria will get you the final Praetor Siege to complete Dimensional Warder.
You can also obtain credit for defeating Praetor by doing the Apex TF, tin Mage Tf and any of the new Incarnate trials.
Your not done yet LOL .. An additional individual mission from Maria that has you battle Nightstar grants the exploration badge Shrouded. There is no one spot on that mission map that you must go to collect it... sta in the mission long enough and the badge is awarded. Note ... there is absolutely no requirement to defeat Nightstar for this badge simply stay in mission until it is awarded.
The other Exploartion badge required is Multidimensional and it also is awarded by running a specific mission. In this case its a three part mission from Tina McIntyre against Hydra and you can either do that normally between 40-44 by getting it dierctly from Tina or you can do it as a time travel mission through Ouroborus.
Paragon Wiki does a outstanding job on the details for all the accolades so just go here http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Hero_Accolades for more details. -
I participated in an All Veat ITF some time ago and the outcome was amazing. All that defense combined with outstaning firepower made the entire TF a breeze. Now admittedly with VEATS we were not ALL exactly alike with a variety of Crabs, Widows, Banes, etc but technically all are Soldiers of Arachnos. We made Romulus cry and run home to find his Mom.
-
Quote:Who exactly is this comment directed at?
Cause If it's towards me, it couldn't be more off base.
That may as well be a list of my LEAST favorite archetypes. I play mostly Defenders, Controllers, Dominators and my Fortunata.
Ummmm NO that would have been directed toward the OP for this thread who wrote and I quote:
Quote:I don't play them because I don't like pets. I don't like my controller and doms getting pets, I don't like my crab getting pets. I certainly don't want to play an AT devoted to pets. I want my character to be the one doing the stuff, not using powers through an NPC. Watching my pets win a fight just is not fun for me. -
If you "play" a mastermind by unleashing your pets on anything that moves and then sit there watching while you try to stay awake.. then your right you SHOULDN'T be playing them at all.
1. While there are only 3 I always take all of my own personnel attacks so I can assist my minons in doing damage . thus adding to the total damage I do.
2. I have several 50 + Masterminds and while my pets are wrecking havoc I am busy debuffing anything lieutenant or higher (and especailly the AV), healing, buffing, etc to assist not only myself and my pets but anyone else I am teaming with.
3. Depending on the power set in question I can unleash holds, immobs, disorients or even slows to further disrupt the enemies my team and I face and add in winning.
Sounds like you need to see mutliple little red numbers erupt from your clicks.. I'd stick with blasters, scrappers, Brutes, stalkers etc.. Oh and before you ask.. YES I play all of those and have 50+'s in each of those areas as well LOL -
I don't know Bill. I agree it can be annoying. I have been on a Numina that suffered through an extended period of total inactivity while we waited for Nemesis to be repelled from invading Kings Row and that same team found itself battling another invasion in Founders Falls while the leader was still recruiting members for the same TF.
That aside to date I have completed the requirements for defeating Fake Nemesis on three different characters without the need to spend hours roaming around Peregrine Island or taking an extended trip to the Shadow Shard. All three of those characters now has the Freedom Phalanx Reserve Member Badge and the added 10% total health. The friend I often team with has managed to complete the requirement on two of his characters and earn the FPRM Badge as well.
Now I REALIZE as soon as I suggest this someone will start screaming they can only play between X an Y on Z day and I am denying them their right to particiapte but IF they'd just cut back on the number of invasions a day or even limit it to 1 zone at a time it would be helpful... I have found myself battling Nemesis in PI while the Hero Broadcast was informing me that Nemesis was attacking Steel Canyon or Kings Row and another invasion or more was taking place in the Rogue Isles. The novelty has warn off a bit so do we really need 4-5 invasions running at once when its tough to even get one GOOD SIZED league running in one zone? By months end I too may be ready to rip the beating heart out of the chest of who ever decided this event should last 30 days but for now I could live with it just being toned down... Hey I have other characters I could log and get the defeat badge on.
Edit: Oh to answer your question NO I am by no means chomping at the bit for more and more of them LOL -
I agree with Forbin and Sam .... In 6 and a half years I have managed to get one character gen'd because I chose a name that was an exact match but close enough to a hero from Comic book that I wasn't even aware existed. I see no reason if some one repeatedly does this over and over, all but obviously deliberately, get some form of punishment. To start I'd say 3 days or a week banned would be plenty. If it continued after that then possibly permanent. No one wants to see the game get sued and wind up closing down completely becasue some nut can't come up with an original name or simply enjoys breaking the rules.
-
Quote:THAT'S it exactly Sam. I was joking with my playing partner tonight.. At level 41 I now have, exclusively from doing tip missions, 608 Longbow defeats. Additionally I also now have 273 PARAGON POLICE defeated. On the other side .. I have a grand total of 104 Arachnos Wolf Spiders defeated toward that badge. Now admittedly we stop seeing Wolf Spiders after about the mid 30s but I didn't even have the ability to do tip missions until level 20 yet somehow my hero turned vigilante has manage to defeat almost 6 times as many Longbow as Arachnos??? Correct me if i am worng but .. Aren't ARACHNOS supposed to be the bad guys? The problem with Longbow is how they've been handled. They were first introduced as an particularly unpleasant faction for villains to fight, which made villain players resent them on a principle level. Then they started showing up as stand-ins for heroes, but branding about a sort of childish "Stop in the name of the law!" mentality which made heroes resent them, as well. Then at some point they started being written as meddling foils for heroes and villains alike and it went downhill from there.
See, Longbow are genuinely intended to be the pure, true-blue good guys, but this has really mostly been used to their detriment. When they're puppy-eyed heroes, villains hate them for meddling and heroes hate them for being sappy. And when they're NOT puppy-eyed heroes, they're jaded vigilantes that want to murder people. There are at least three separate Tip missions with pretty much this exact plot to them.
Like the Freakshow, I feel Longbow were just mishandled. Everything they do is wrong, everything they try fails, every one of their agents is either childishly naive or stomach-churningly irritating, and they end up as this faction that really doesn't belong anywhere. And it's a real shame. Longbow have the manpower, the firepower and the conviction to be a major player for the forces of good. They're just never really used like this. At best, they're "Those meddling kids!" and at worst they just get in the way. How are we suppose to treat them BUT as an obstacle?" -
Quote:One or more Mole Machines, even non-targetable, spawning in the zone during the event would be nice. One or more brass airships, even non-targetable, following the path that the Rikti dropships take would be nice. A special Tip mission, active the week before the event goes live, incorporating some of the lore that went up on the web page, would be really nice.
But you know what? I'm just okay with this. It's a nice change of pace. Heck, I think they should do something like this at random, every month or two: pick one of the main factions and have them mass-assault the zones like this. Circle of Thorns. Council. 5th Column. Freakshow. Sky Raiders. Banished Pantheon. Primal Devouring Earth. Soldiers of Rularuu. Heck, heat up the cold war between the rest of the US and the Rogue Isles, set up an event where Arachnos troops spawn like this in the hero zones and Longbow spawn like this in the Rogue Isles. Maybe not for a whole month, maybe just for a week to ten days, but otherwise, nice, easy to make, easy to understand zone events like this.
It's a nice change of pace, it's something different, it's a change of scenery. It's a fun, social way for people to get the defeat-n-hundred-bosses badges. Get one of your lowbies on a good league with higher-level badgers and it's remarkably good XP, too. So, yes, I'd like some more, please.
Do NOT quote me on this but I think you may get your wish eventually. I was doing a little exploration badging with my Vigilante Brute in St. Martial and came across a Mole Machine. I swooped down to check it out and it was clickable but I got a message stating Entrance was not available. Someone quoted Zwilliger stating that the raids were just the opening for the event.. If we keep finding Mole machine that weren't there before .. I think we can assume that some story line has to be attached to them -
Quote:Well your group/team/league was doing something wrong because it took my Staff/WP stalker a total of three invasions to pass the 100 defeated mark on Fakes and get the final component needed for the Freedom Phallanx badge. Not only were they there but we battled both Boss and Elite Boss levels of both Fake Nemesis and Warhulks. I also got my 100 defeats on my Staff/EA Brute earlier in the day.I don't believe it. Given that nothing lived more than 3 seconds. By the time I could target something it was dead.
As others pointed out the larger the group fighting and the faster the defeats occur the more you see.. On a league in Talos that had 8 teams and close to 50 members I managed over 30 fake defeats. On a 16 man league in Kings Row the numbers were less but we still saw both Fakes and warhulks (boss and EB level). -
Quote:Well its sort of a double edged sword Brand. Do some of the tip missions fit what we think of as normal behavior for certain groups? (Longbow or others).. Not really Then again we are not talking about a story arc put together by a player in the AE building these are missions created by the DEV team and if you run tip missions daily for the rewards you see them again and again... Since the Devs are the ones that create the game and decide what any group's MO is... it may be different than what we are used to but its sure part of who they are now and thus is canon.Where those missions even canon? I can swear some of the tip missions werent.
As for that...that's some really crappy writing.
Mind you I never did run them...I think part of me was scared of anyone in those club heels.
Now as for that Valentine mission.. Like I said it works quite nicely for a villain or rogue RED side. The problem was instead of designing a different story Blue side they just changed some dialogue and threw Megan in as contact and used the exact same story. I did it ONCE and after that decided I had no desire for my heroes, vigilantes or rogues to help Lord Recluse find a date. The lovely debuff I got since Ms. L sent me off to do a ritual without all the necessary details had a LOT to do with that.
NOTE TO MISS LIBERTY:
Quote:Dear Megan, Next time you decide you want to preform a ritual to raise the dead either give me all the details I need to perform it right or DO THE THING YOURSELF!
