Crazy, because before the great Regen change, I hated MoG.
Well back then MoG also had one serious drawback.. When you clicked it YEAH while active you were invincible but the goofy thing drained your Hitpoints into the red. You needed to defeat whatever it was in front of you before it wore off or be ready to run and have some awakes handy. Now you can click it at full strength and STAY at full strength no moatter what is TRYING desperately to hit you until it wears off. LOL

I liked both Dean's and Leonard's arc and did think the writing was superior. If I had any complaint at all.. Why won't Leonard give me his cell phone number? LOL Even after defeating Protean I still had to run all the way back to him to get the final mission and complete the arc. that aside i enjoyed running it and kudos to Doc Aeon for the work! :-D

That's why I'm calling it a "diversity of content" issue - it's not that there's not enough content that villains can access, it's that there's not enough content that has a villainous theme.

Personally, I'm hoping for opportunities to act heroically in the Rogue Isles or villainously in Paragon City.
OH I see what you mean. Yeah once GR hits and everyone starts crossing back and forth the lines will definately blur. I don't see any in game way around that but personally, for RP purposes, when taxibot Sara hits the Rogue Isles she will basically be UNDERCOVER. If she "kidnaps" someone she will make it appear she is but actually guide them to safety (in short actually rescue them for both the group that has them now and the one that wants them). If she robs a bank... Hey that was all a set up to keep her cover going. None of those PPD cops got hurt they were all in on it and .. of course the money all got tunred back to the bank. I mean come on if your going to make Recluse and his mob THINK you've gone bad you have to act the part or you just get shot at.. a lot. LOL

I would love to see more content Villain side, not that it isn't possible to level to 50 without seeing all there is now but COH has a ton more. And trying to earn Merits on COV is no where near as easy as on COH. Not counting the CoOps (ITF and LGTF) the best a Villain can hope for is 6 that offer up Reward Merits. Heck just doing the 6 required for TF Commander equals that and those offer more merits (granted most are longer than the ones on COV). Adding in 2 additional ones in Striga (Moonfire and Hess), 4 in the Shard, The Katey Hannon, 3 Trials (again not count respecs since Villains do get those as well) that adds up to 9 more opportunities for a Hero to team up and get Merits than a Villain does.

I realize that with only 7 zones even trying to add another 9 more SF/Trials would be insane especially since 4 zones already host an SF now. You'd have SF/Trial contacts stacked beside on another. I doubt they will add anymore zones Redside so maybe the best Villains can hope for is more CoOp zones where they can team with heroes and earn reward merits and XP, etc. Of course that never actually balances the scale since it adds ANOTHER way for heroes to get more merits as well but at least it would help. The trend seems to be CoOp anyways since the last two new zones we got were that way.... well one revamped zone (the RWZ) and one new (Cimerora). I've seen a number of suggestion for this including Faultline, Croatoa, Boomtown, and even The Hollows or Perez Park but it would take some REAL crative writing to explain how a zone that for 6 years has been considered a part of Paragon City to suddenly allow Villains to show up and HELP. The RWZ was easy.. The Rikti want to take over and enslave the whole planet. Good or Bad guy you realize that that is NOT a good thing and do what you can to stop it. The others? Well its already been argued how do you justify villains suddenly showing up in Croatoa to HELP a small college town on the outskirts of the city keep from being dragged into the Spirit world? Faultline, as was mentioned, does have an Arachnos presence but they aren't there to protect them dam from breaking and the same Villain groups that roam the zone operate freely in Recluse's domain. I'm sure he's perfectly happy that they are there causing trouble and helping divert attention from his plans there so why would he suddenly authorize villains to go and help out? With the rise of the 5th column I suppose Boomtown has some possibilities Villains already have Barracuda's SF which pits you against Reichman just like kahn's TF does hero side so there is a common enemy that both Red abd Blue agree needs to be taken down. But like the RWZ we would be talking a major revamp of the zone to make that possible.

Let's say we run off the Council from the zone completely. 5th Column establishes a huge base, not unlike the Council one on Striga, and plan to use it as a jumping off point to invade both Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. Now we have the HUGE question of what level range to make this zone when we do all this. Presently heroes can enter at 12 and the villains found there are Trolls, Outcast, Clockwork, Coucil and now 5th Column. Dp we keep it at that level and just let those same groups wander outside the Column base? Obviously the Column couldn't care less about the other groups aside from the Council deeming them to be weak and inferior. Or do we increase it's level and the have to decide which Villain groups will replace the ones there now? Also aside form spawning during Synapse TFs IF the level increases and the Clockwork disappear where do we put Babbage? /e eyes roll and mind boggles

Of course there has been talk for years about a Moon base zone, more wishful thinking than anything else since it still hasn't occurred and it started back before Faultline got revamped , The RWZ became CoOp and Cimmerora came into existance. But it WOULD be another zone where Villains and Heroes could coexist and even battle a new alien villain or just give us another place to battle Rikti.

There is no easy answer but then I don't get paid to come up with ideas .. if I did i'd be a Dev and be designing the game not playing it LOL Hopefully they will continue to find new ways to keep the game fun.

I'm not sure that's true to be honest. I'm still not 100% sure how GR will work but IF it allows me to take a 50 level hero and go Vigilante enabling me to cross over and through Time Travel, etc start earning COV badges then I plan to do so. When, if, that occurs you know every COH badger alive will be clamoring to get to the Isles and add to their badge count. At the same time 50 level badge hounds from COV will be headed to Paragon to do the same. I see this helping both sides since players that NEVER played COV will be showing up there and the same is true of red siders that never played COH. I think that's one reason we now have badges for earning 500 and 1000 badges.. once GR happens and people cross over those two will be a lot easier, as a lot cheaper since you don't need to spend a fortune earning Crafting badges, to obtain.

The others benefit from being slotted, but they don't need them to be effective.
BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ wrong! I have DM on several of my MMs. I use it constantly for the outstanding disorient and slow. I DONT wait for people to die and haul it out once is a while in fact anyone playing with me better have some awakes on them IF they die because the chances are it won't be recharged and available. Now admittedly in all the other cases you are correct but the question is are you building a "Team Support" character or not? While the arguemnt goes on and on end on the fact is even the best of teams can make a mistake that results in too many mobs aggroed and players end up face down on the floor so if you team having heals and a rez do support them. YES people can, and most do, carry awake but even a tier 3 awake still leaves you with no end. A REZ from any of the powersets in question brings the teammate back at full strenth, unstunned and ready to battle again.

If you solo constantly.. skip it but if you team it's a useful tool that SUPPORTS the team. NOT one that hopefully gets used a lot but still good to have. If you solo and team try a dual build like I do. One build has the Rez along with many other things that help my teammates and the other skips things that don't help ME at all and allows me to add other things that increase my attacks, my defenses or whatever.

Now here is my theory as to why the game has shifted away from desiring defenders and controller that heal and no it has very little to do with the entire player base suddenly discovering the JOY of buff/debuff since those were always around. Patrol XP changed the game completely. Suddenly when someone died they discovered hey I didn't go into debt the patrol XP saved me! Word spread like wildfire soon the attitude became "Why should I waste a slot on my team for an Empath when my patrol xp will wipe out debt? Even if I go to bed with debt by the time I wake up and go to work or school it will all be gone!" That statement is totally true but here is what I don't understand.

Patrol XP is also increasing the amount of XP and Influence/Infamy you earn so the longer it lasts the more you make and the faster you level. If you are smart and also camp out at night in the Police station you can also build up additional XP bonuses there.. Patrol xp gives you a 50% boost in XP and a seasoned law Enforcer can add an additional 25% for as long as two hours. That's a minimum of 2 hours of play time where your earn 175% of what is normal for XP and Influence .. the closest thing to a constant double XP weekend you will find in the game. When you die and your patrol XP absorbs the debt but it uses up the amount of XP you would have had to earn back and decreases the amount of time you get that 50% bonus.

With all the other ways players use to increase the amount of XP they earn so they can level faster, legal and the ones NC Soft considers illegal (ie farming PL etc), why this area became a rallying cry for Healing sucks and we don't need your kind here I have no idea. The vast majority of the player base is more mature and you'd think they understood simple math. 175% = 75% more than I would normally get.. Mmm Good! Prior to this occurring when I logged on an EMP Defended or my Ill/Emp Controller I had times I was still loading and already had tells or blind invites to team because no one wanted to DIE and have to spend the next ??? working off debt and earning 50% of the XP they normally would. Now I see open discussion on Global channels I belong to about how Empathy suck and who needs a healer anyway. Well first of all I have never considered any character I had, troller or fender, to BE A HEALOR. I take and use every buff/debuff available and take and enhance my attacks. My feeling always has been the best defense is a good offense and while the damage even a well enhanced defender does is less than a scrapper or blaster can do DAMAGE IS DAMAGE. When all the bad guys are face down on the floor and not moving the need to heal, buff or debuff ends so I'll take all the damage I can get from anyone and everyone.

No team NEEDS a healer.. but then again no "good" team needs a tanker or a KIN or any of the other FOTM powersets that a lot of leaders decide they simply have to have to survive and do well. All you need is 8 good players that understand their powers and the game and adapt their strategy to make it work. I did a Citadel TF with 7 blasters and 1 Defender (yes it was an EMP). The team leader was a little concerned that we had a LOT of "squishies" and not much healing. We decided to try it and moved through missions with ease.. the damage output was so high nothing lasted long enough to cause a team wipe. I participated in an ALL CONTROLLER Katy Hannon TF and we finished in 19 minutes and 1 second... no tank, no scrapper, no blasters .. Just a ton of buffs, debuffs, HEALS, holds, immobs, slows, etc that drove the Cabal and Redcaps insane. I've played on PUG radio mission teams that had nothing but Defenders and Controller that did the same thing. "They can't hit us, we are hitting them a lot easier, they can't move and we are healing faster than they can hurt us. WE ROCK!"
  6. The "Baby" New Year is actually a 40 year old midg... Err little person with a foul mouth and a mean disposition. No wonder he ages so quickly in one year and needs to be replaced.

As long as you run straight at it .. its possible to pass completely through a moving automobile unharmed and with almost no noticable decrease in speed. A 2 foot tall bush however will stop you in your tracks and must either be jumped over or run around. Mother Nature 1 -- Technology 0.

Lady Jane, Fushionette and General Aarons(from Serpent Drum's Arc in the RWZ) were all once Master Mind Minions (specifically Thugs Arsonists) and ARE an advanced peek at Going Rogue. Old habits are hard to break and they all still have that "burning" need to rush forward and see what damage they did.. dying frequently in the process.

Maybe you should learn how to team up with a proper tank then
Maybe you shouldn't assume I dont. Then again how many teams have you been on that couldn't find a tank? Don't assume you know how I play this game . I am beginning to see why your rep is so glowing. I am not one of those that sets AURA to Auto and sits back doing nothing but supoposedly healing my team.. its a waste of END. I HEAL when its needed but suggesting no team will ever run into a situation where someone aggros two or even three mobs at once or gets confused in a COT cave and seperates before getting attack.. takes damage and will NEVER need to be healed it foolish. S%$t happens and when it does, to even the best teams, having someone along that can mend the wounds is not a horrible idea.

Thermal's healing abilities are weak, it's a buff/debuff set, not a healing set.
Gee I could have sworn I covered that along with many of the good points of nuerous other powerset that also heal. It has a decent heal and a Rez with special benefits.

Dark, kin and rad are not "healer" powersets. If you think they are, please stop playing forever.
THERE is NO such thing as a HEALER set but like the others they do have a HEAL and that is what the OP asked about. Do you actually read things or just post to express your own need to insult people?

    Quote:
I'd actually suggest not taking your first few powers as an Emp. The only real healing ability you need is Heal Other.
And since at lower levels those are the only things abvailable what do YOU suggest the OP take? The fitness pool so he doesn't need to waste powers in the teens trying to get Stamina? HEALS are still important in the lower level game. When those powers are available and with the trend now to run +4 X 8 at times they become important at times even later on. I agree buffs and debuff outshine heals by far but at level 10 HOW many of them are actually available to a defender or controller? Or do you PL through those levels and have no clue what its like to be vulnerable? I still see post on the TF global for Master of STF Runs looking for a HEALER to help keep the tank alive while he keeps tries to occupy recluse while the rest of the team take out Pylons.

  17. Relax and loosen up my friend. :-D I carry several break frees constantly on any character that doesn't have mex protection. I wind up asleep or held and POP I am back in action. Fighting Arachnos and find yourself blinded by a Nightwidow? Pop a yellow and give her a huge suprise when you continue to pound on her. When I have them I never hesitate to use a Red when we roll up on the EB or AV that's the focus of the mission. Purples and Oranges provided added defense for that same battle. Unless your team is terrible you can survive without using any against Lieutenants and Minion but when the heavies show up its time to be inspired.

    Now repeat after me.. LOL

    1) I can always buy more when the mission is over

    2) With any luck after I use it I'll get another one, maybe even a better one, once the villain/enemy drops.

    3) I can always cash in Merits at a rate of one for one to replace that tier 3 I just burned up on the Arch Villain

    4) If NC Soft didn't want me to use inspirations they wouldn't have created them

    5) I am a 40+ level and have 20 inspiartion slots. If the team I am on is so bad this isnt enough to get me through one mission maybe I need to find a new team

    6) Even on a TF or Trial I can always buy them at Pocket D or in the Arena.

    7) My SG has 8 bins filled with them. If they didnt want me to use a few why did they spend all that prestige to store them and give me access

At times I hord too but if its a question, at all, of me ending up face down on the floor or taking out the bad guys... I POP and worry about replacing it later! Good luck :-D
  18. Empathy by far provides the most heals. The Aura combined with heal other allow you to keep the team healed and provide even better healing to anyone that is in trouble with Heal Other. Frankly I skip Absorb Pain.. 1) you already have an outstand solo heal in Heal Others that recovers very quickly and 2) I tend to avoid any power that takes away from MY hitpoints to do anything. Basically you can't heal anyone if you wind up face down on the floor because you died after using it and then got attacked. You have a good Rez and some pretty good buff. One nice thing is two of those are also aura so they will benefit you as well as the members of your team.

Thermal has good heals and adds some great buff. It has only one debuff but Melt Armor is outstanding. The one drawback is that while Empathy also has 2 buffs (auras that can actually help you. Thermal has graet buffs but the only person on the team you can't buff is YOU. One added advatage of Themal is its Rez which brings back your fallen team mate and causes an explosion damaging anything around them.

Dark has a good heal and Rez but also has a huge advantage in that both of them provide added avtanges. your heal will debuff an enemy while your rez slows and disorients. Many players, myself included, that use dark actually use the REZ more for that then they do actually rezzing a team mate. Hey if its not available when a team mate falls that's why they make Awake inspiratioins. No buffs with this set but it the slows, disorients and debuffs more than make up for it. One small disadvantage is that your rez, if using to rez a teammate, requires an enemy to activate or it simply doesn't function.

Kin has a good heal but no Rez which is not a huge issues considering the other advantages that KIN provides. The one drawback to the heal is your teammates have to be close to you for it to work and it does require an enemy to work. This can mean you may need to move into Melee range if you want to heal a tank or scrapper in trouble and find yourself taking added damage. The huge advantage with Kin is SB along with the powers that buff you. Everyone can attack and recover faster so they can do a lot more damage.

Rad has a good heal and rez and perhaps the best debuffs in game. My Rad/Rad Defender picked the badge title GIANT KILLER based solely on the fact that she has taken on and helped defeat ever single GM in game and most of the AVs. You also get Accelerate Metabolism which works similar to Speed Boost from the Kin powerset in that it makes your teammate quicker and they heal, recover end, etc faster until it wears off. The advantage here is AM is an aura so it doesn't just buff your teammate it buffs you as well.

If you take EMP do NOT skip your later powers. Fortitude and Clear Mind will become your go to power in the later game. CM recovers very quickly and doesn't require much more than a single Recharge Reduction to enable you to quickly protect the entire team. Fort is slower and needs 1-2 Recharges to get it down to being available about every 30 seconds. It does buff the individual you use it on adding to their defense and increasing their accuracy.

Whatever you decide on do not think of yourself solely as a "healer". By the later game most players defense is strong enough that no one cares if they have a HEALOR along or not. Take your attacks from your secondary and enhance them.. My phylosphy with my EMP always was a good offense is the best defense. I may not do as much damage as a Scrapper or a Blaster.. heck in some cases not even as much as a Controller but ANY damage is good damage and if everything in front of us is on the ground and not moving the need to heal has ended. I like to call that preventative medicine LOL
  19. Wicked_Wendy

    Patrons or no?

Hey thanks all :-D A lot of good advice and since I am dual build I may just go with build that uses a couple Patrons (I do like the addition of another pet to my attack chain) and the other without. Sounds like I am not the only person that loves the powersets already on hand so I'll be happy with both.
  20. Wicked_Wendy

    Patrons or no?

My Crab is now at level 39 which give me 2 levels to decide. I know, unlike the HEATs, I am able to run a Patron Arc and add those unique powers to my attacks but at 39 there are still powers available I would love to add. So the question is.. Has anyone else ever created a SoA and just didn't bother with Patron powers at all? Hey with my Warshae I didn't have a choice but frankly I am leaning toward doing in VOLUNTARILY with my Crab. I have dual builds, one for solo and the other for teaming, so I suppose I could try one each way and I have so many Vet reward respec if i decide I hate it I can always change my mind (repeatedly).

So Brother and Sister SoAs I am looking for feedback. Have any of you skipped dealing with Ghost Widow, Black Scorpion, Scirroco, Mako or Lord Recluse and just kept taking powers from you primary and Secondary all the way to 5o? :-D By the way my Nightwidow is at level 25 so while I have a while on her yet I am thinking along the same lines with her... just keep adding powers I already have access instead of adding Patrons. With both I'll probably still pick a Patron just for the added story arcs but just never bother selectiong any of the powers I gain access to.
  21. Wicked_Wendy

    Malta Sappers

My favorite is confuse. My Ill/Emp soloed both Indigo and Crimson's arcs with no problem. I sneak in with superior Invisibility and confuse the Sappers and Gunslinger then just let them help me defeat the rest of the mob with my Phantom Army and Phantasm.
  22. I haven't heard anything about HATRED but I do agree with Master-Blade's assessment of the negative feelings about them. I was on one Master of STF run and we had a guy, can't even recall what AT he was, that had never done a STF before much less a Master. So first mission he gets a little lost and Poof there goes the challenge. SOoooooo the leader orders everyone out and we all quit the TF, reassemble and start all over. Amazingly the same guy managed to die in mission one again. So back out we go and start it all over again.

Well third try we make it through mission one okay. We did fine until we hit the Thorn Tree mission and 2 team mates, no the guy that died twice was not one of them, die and curses come over across my chat window from out illustrious leader. Now absolutely NO ONE wants to start over again at this point so it's decided we will push on and complete the TF for "THE PRACTICE" By the time we got to the last mission it was 1AM and a number of us had to go to work so we logged off for the night. The next day I logged on and discover from the friend that had gotten me involved in that mess that the TF has disbanded completely. Throughout the ordeal the leader was insulting, pushy and generally made everyone feel uncomfortable.

That was my first, last and only Master of... EVER! Several times the same friend has tried to get me back on MoSTFs and I have decilned. I don't log on to COH to be stressed out, insulted, bullyed or belittled and I have no desire to ever try another one again. I'm not saying that every leader of every Master of attempt is that way but that one experience was so nasty it soured me to the whole idea and I could care less if I never have one of those badges.

I'm also sure the "we need the perfectteam to succeed" type leaders have managed to turn of any number of players by refusing to allow players to join simply because they don't fit the "PLAN" for the team. I imagine other players have gotten tired and upset standing aroud doing nothing for 20 minutes or more while the leader search for that RAD/RAD or whatever "We have to have for this to work!" The fact is most people play games to have fun and relax and quite a few here on COH/V are mature adults that have real world commitment and can't stay on line till 2 or 3AM trying to complete a TF (Master run or not). The leaders that turn a TF into a chore are probably the ones that have caused some players to avoid or even hate those type and refuse to do them.

It is annoying if the hunted are in large groups, I'm at the very minimum of the level of the area they are in, or, especially, both of those conditions exist. But I'll make do. People clamor for a challenge yet run away screaming for change when this mission occurs. I wouldn't mind the number required be decreased, or, as I've suggested before, make it variable by having every defeat having a chance to provide the objective of the mission, with 100% chance of success at the maximum number the missions are set to now.
Yes Glen but when you HUNT in the open world its by choice and you are hunting things in an area where the mobs are around your level and you can suvive. At level 7 some contact will send you to Perez Park to defeat 10 COT.. that's a death sentance waiting to happen for most. At level 12 a contact will send you to Boomtown to defeat 10 Clockwork and again most ATs will struggle and suffer defeat attempting to roam around looking for Clockwork to attack in that zone. In the 30s in brickstown certain contacts will have you hunt for 30 Council to defeat and while this used to be easy now you will consistantly run into 5TH Column where you used to see Council. Then hit the higher levels and run across defeat 50 of whatever. I personnally am not spending half a hour running around trying to find 50 of any villain group.

I don't mind an occasion hunt during a story arc or TF that actually tied into the story being told. Defeat 10 Clockwork to reveal the location of their hidden base etc. as an example. But many contacts will automatically give you a hunt mission the very first time you click them and that, to me, just seems like busy work because they haven't come up with a REAL mission yet.

Like the OP I like Memphis Bill's suggestion send me to the train station and let me hop a ride to an outdoor instance mission where I clear the map to complete the requirement. Rikti Raids, Zombie Attacks, Etc won't disrupt me and I'll get a better end XP bonus since those are technically considered door missions.
  24. Recruiter - accomplishment

You have spent 10 hours constantly spamming braodcast in Atlas Park trying to convince players to join you NEW SG.

    BRB badge - accomplishment

during any TF or Trial you announce at the door on entry. "BRB phone, etc" and then spent the entire mission there. To earn badge this must occur on at least one half of the missions and result in the entire team hating you, making notes about you so they never have to team with you again and you must get kicked from the team for this practice prior to the last mission and award of any badges associated with the TF or Trial.

Brave New World badge - category yet unknown

After spending 50 levels in the AE building in Atlas Park you venture forth and take the train to Steel to earn you 20 level costume. Two badge designs exist one with and one without oakleaf clusters.. Badge with clusters awarded if you find the train statiion without help.
  25. To be honest about the only one, ouside of the Shard.. shudders along with JazMan, that I dreaded was POSI and I am very pleased with the new one. Most of the rest of the BIG SIX (Posi, Synapse, Sister P, Citadel, Manti and Numina) have a good mix of Defeat alls and stealthables and can be completed in well under 2 hours. Moonfire is perfectly fine IMHO .. it all takes place in one zone and mixes defeat alls and stealths. If they want to change anything cut back on the "Busy Work". We can do without the patrols and the FedEx missions thank you very much.

Yeah I know they TAKE too long. Well then DON'T do them. I've done as many as 3 TFs in the same day on a character and managed to level significantly. The problem these days is no one wants to do a TF to TRY and earn XP all the are looking for is a quick Badge, the TF Commander Accolade (when applicable) and as many Reward Merits as they can grab. On lower level characters I look at Task Forces as a way to LEVEL faster. I did a Manticore a while back, one of my favorites, and was the tank. The Leader somehow managed to set the Difficlty so we were facing blue and green minions instead of Yellow or Orange. We blasted through every mission and sure we got done in less than an hour but I had managed to go up a whole 5 bars in XP and did the ting again later that day with another team so i could actually get good Xp and enjoy it.

Not saying any or all of them couldn't use some tweeking but the only one that was a real chore was Positron and that's fixed. Go do something with the Shard and MAYBE I'l have more than one character that has ever done any TF in there.
