I think what's been said pretty much covers it.... Yes you will definately get better and as Bill mentioned will be laughing as you watch foes dropping like flies. I am curious.. what did you take as your secondary? I went with DM since it seemed to fit well and mainly because I just love the set. Everything in that powerset either debuffs, holds, slows, scares or disorients opponents including your heal and your rez. I have told team mates many times I hope you have awakes if you die because HT is an amazing power and will disorient Bosses and even some EBs so I can NOT promise it will be available. I use it as fast as it recharges.
My other suggestion to you would be to find someone to team with. I have a partner that created a DS at the same time I did and both of us went with DM. Even in the lower levels the combination was lethal... COT and Tsoo couldn't stand up to that assault. Double the pet attacks and twice the debuffs made missions a breeze. By the time we hit the 30s we were taking on EBs without even thinking about it twice.. heck we were specifically taking missions from contacts to get at Elite bosses.
Hang in there even solo is great as you get higher and stronger! :-D -
That's very true I love teaming but my DMs have no trouble at all Soloing and your right BrandX like most other sets mentioned here, or not, its not the set that is the problem its the person at the keyboard knowing how to use it. I take and use everything in that set and especially when teaming spend more time debuffing than attacking with anything BUT my minions. If everything else is recharging or already cast I will start blasting but I figure its a lot easier to defeat anything onces it has two or three -to hits, a slow, a disorient and a fear cast on it :-D Since my Thugs MM has just finished up getting her uncommon incarnate slotted please speak to Romulus in Cimerora, The Honoree in the RWZ and Reichmann in.... wherever that secret base of his is located.. for references! LOL

Quote:Well you don't need to completely switch from Villain to Hero JUST to get a badge.. I have most of my villains in Rogue status and a lot of heroes in Vigilante status. You can go to both sides, battle any and all GMs, participate in any TF or SF and still maintain your alliance to either Statesman or Lord Recluse. And of course once you have all the badges you want you can always switch back AND there is a badge for doing that too :-D I think about the ONLY badge(s) unavailable to a Rogue are one exploration badge in Atlas Park (its located at the entrance to Recluse Victory and when you click the elevator it tells you.. Heroes Only!) and of course the Accolade for getting all the Atlas park Exploration badges because of that ONE badge in Atlas.I like it! I'd call the hero version "Stone Slinger" and the villain version "Goliath". And I'd wear them with pride
Except the part about requiring a character to switch sides. There could always be a third, non-power accolade for getting both red and blue versions, but I don't think anything with a stat boost as its reward should require you to switch sides.
If the accolade gave a power boost, I'd suggest that it apply exclusively when fighting Monsters and Giant Monsters. Thematically speaking, fighting them isn't the same as fighting things that are close to your own size. It requires different tactics. (Not that I'd mind GM hunting teams forming more often, by people looking for the accolade. I love me a good monster mash)

Quote:You NEVER see a DM in game? I have numerous ones.. Thugs/DM MM.. 50 level Rogue, Bots/DM MM .. 45 level Vigilante (started her career in Praetoria, DS/DM MM .. 50 leve Rogue. I think what some people don't realize or understand is that every single one of the powers in DM has some form of Debuff, Slow, Disorient.. whatever. YES I heal a lot.. NO it's not because I am working on heal badges or just like to see green numbers flying over people's heads.. My heals also have 2 slots of To Hit Debuff and I am making life tougher for the villains in front of you to do any damage. Yeah I have a Rez but it also has the ability to disorient a Boss or even an EB so I strongly suggest you carry some awake because I am NOT promising it will be available if you face plant! My MMs are very popular on ITFs since they tend to leave Romulus swatting at thin air while the team pounds him senseless. Don't get me wrong I also have RAD defenders I love and several versions of Controllers that provide great buffs but I have seen some listing DM as over hyped. I've seen quite a few players on Virtue using it and using it very well.Hyper in-game and hyped on the forums are often different. In-game, at least by my perception, Dark Miasma seems underrated. Almost never see one. In-forum, Dark Miasma gets a lot of "This set is awesome!"
My own list, including several frequently mentioned. Note that this doesn't necessarily mean I dislike these sets. Some I play.
Fire/Kin Controller
Kin/Fire Corr
Elec/SD Scrapper
Super Strength anything
Willpower anything
Bad Empaths (I'd argue good Empaths are under-hyped)
Sonic Resonance (Let's be clear here: any amount of hype for this set is overhype. Compared to all the other options, it's, in my opinion, that bad. I like the set, but it really, really needs a look)
Rad/Sonic Defender
Power Mastery on Defenders
Body Mastery (and equivalents) on Scrappers/Brutes/Tanks
Illusion/Rad Controller
Psy/EM Blasters (In PvP only. Yeah, well built they kick serious butt, but there's plenty of other viable alternatives (and ATs). Maybe or maybe not in the top-end competitive scene, but I've never played or seen that level). -
I have suggested this before in passing but this seems like the perfect time to bring it up again.. How about a badge, an accolade, for defeating all of the Giant Monsters. My previous suggestion was only to include the COH ones but now that anyone can crosss over lets make it more interesting
Defeat:
Kraken (Perez Park) COH
Babbage (Boomtown or Skyway) COH
DeathSurge (Cap Au Diable) COV
Lusca (IP) COH
Ghost of Scrapyard (Sharkhead) COV
Adamaster (Dark Astoria) COH
Eochia (Croatoa) COH
Jack in Irons (Croatoa) COH
Jurassik (Creys Folly) COH
Kronos Titan (Founders Falls or in the LRSF) COH/COV
Caleb (Nerva) COV
Arachnos Flyer (Grandville or in the STF) COH/COV
Now I left out all of the Holiday GMs like the Winter Lord or the ToT version of Eochia and jack in Irons... lets not make this a badge it takes 6 months to acquire! And you'll notice while I did include those Jack and Eochia I left out Sally from Croatoa. Technically the trio of GMs in Croatoa already are a part of one accolade but my real reason is simply I find it very hard to consider Sally a real challenge and worth of a badge.. I can "DEFEAT" her with one swipe from brawl.. unslotted That hardly qualifies as a GM battle.
I'm not sure exactly what to call it.. Giant Killer sounds good but it is already taken. One thing I would like to see is make it another accolade with powers. If a player obtains all of the defeat badges for each GM they get a accolade power that when activated grants them a Defense Bonus or a Damage Resistance Bonus for 2 minutes and like many of the others they can activate it once every 25 minutes.. sort pf a reward for all those defeats .. here take this it may help you stay alive next time you battle a Giant Monster! So anyone think this idea is a good one? and can anyone think of a name for the badge? LOL :-D -
Now Test_Rat they said Power sets that actually are a part of the game not some one misguided dilllusion that all Defenders are H3@L0r$. LOL
In response to other comments .. /e sniffs and holds back the tears.. BILL! I have always been on your side here on the forums how can you defile the Illusion set? Its what my first 50 level is! LOL Okay so its not nearly as good on a team as many of the others but solo I always got a kick out of being able to sneak in, confuse everything in sight, sic my Phantom Army on them and sit back and watch the mayhem.
I tend to agree with Fire/Kin as being vastly overhyped. Don't get me wrong in the right hands it can be an awesome set but I have seen a LOT of Fire/Kins that really had no business playing anything but Scrappers, Tanks or Blasters (in other words I DON ned 2 thunk.. I jus hits stuf). -
Quote:Okay first, as usual, Memphis Bill and I agree. Next .. can I ask just exactly WHY removing influence from the game is SOOOOOO desperately needed? It seems to me like we have more than enough influence sinks since the Invension System began and especially since the very rare, and highly coveted, purple recipes arrived. I can, and just did recently, sell a Purple that increase pet damage by 53% for more than 300 million and I keep seeing things here on the forums where some recipes are selling for a billion or more.. and we need to find ways to get RID of Influence? You know, like XP debt. If you have 1 billion inf debt, the next two billion inf you would have acquired, by any means whatsoever, gets split into burning off the debt and actually going to you.
What "inf debt" would do is allow removal of inf from the game (desperately needed) without making affected characters completely unplayable, or requiring them to actually have that inf lying around.
What could it be used for? Well, the obvious thing would be blatant exploits -- characters could be assigned inf debt equal to the inf they obtained through the exploit. Maybe other things. Mostly, though, if the tool were there, it would provide a way to remove inf from the game without rendering characters unplayable, and we need more of those.
Bill's right this idea smacks of how things used to be when before Patrol XP when players got totally frustrated as they slowly made their way from level to level trying to work off debt and cringing if they died in a mission meaning it would take even longer before they finally got back to earning decent XP. I run several SGs and unlike many I stay in SG mode all the way to level 50 and sometimes beyond.. I have exactly one character that is no longer playing in SG mode.. My 50 level Carb Spider She is my badger and over the course of playing every TF, running countless Time travel missions, and getting every intance door badge on BOTH red and blue side she has earned the Sg over 1.2 million in prestige. She earned the right to shut off the prestige and collect full INF. I have no desire to see that cut because she lost a battle to an AV.. especially now that we have Apex and Tin Man TFs.. I lost track of how many deaths I suffered on Apex battling BM. -
Quote:About the way I have always felt about it... Disgusted. I don't fault anyone for PLAYING the game any way they like but paying someone else to play for you just seems totally wrong to me. Hey I don't do a lot of it, and none recently, but I have been on a few farms in PI back before AE. There were good and bad farmers then .. A good farmer expected everyone of the team to contribute and you actually felt good about what you were accomplishing. A bad farmer had 2-4 people sitting at the door collecting XP, and babysitting since we are talking the days before SSK, while the other team members did all the work.[Broadcast] (Powerleveler Name Withheld): looking for powerleveling, paying 40m inf per level (l28 at the moment)
I can still recall a Double XP weekend where I headed to PI on a Sunday to try and get my 49 level to 50 ... With only 5 or 6 hours left before the weekend ended all you saw in broadcast was people begging for a FARM and willing to pay X Million per run. People advertising their services as Bridges at X Million a run. Farmers advertising their mission at X Million a run per team mate. There were more characters below level 20 on Peregrin Island than there were 40-50 levels. I couldn't even find 5, 6 or 7 players that actually wanted to run missions and PLAY the game.. In short the entire island has turned into a ***** House and I logged off ad didn't come back until Tuesday. I hooked up with an AV team and dinged 50 battling Siege. Some how that seemed a much more appropriate way to do it than running in a two block circle over and over killing Demons.
Like I said I don't judge players usually if that's what they like and they are happy.. FINE But every time I see stuff like that I can't help but wonder how they can take any pride in the character they created if they pay someone else to do all the work. -
Quote:Shivans. *shrug* Not like anyone's in the PVP zones these days.
I am somewhat disappointed that we're losing a valid strategy to defeat him, given prior complaints about "just bigger bags of hit points." I mean, noticing what's going on and doing something to counter it (besides "punch punch punch down purples punch punch" that is.) I've handled him different ways with different ATs. My controllers and doms took advantage of the fact he CAN be held to keep him from spawning anything. Melee? Beat on him. Sometimes in lava, sometimes not. MMs? Swarm, sometimes with T1s chasing the clones. Khelds? One kited, two beat on him in the lava. My defenders kited.
Of the group of characters I have in the 40s, I think the only one I'm going to have to find a different strategy for will be the Sonic/Sonic, since I tend to want to solo this arc.
Now, if they introduced some other way you could handle him (not including temp powers, etc) I would be fine with losing this angle. But that's more an encounter redesign than a mob redesign.
I agree with you Bill. I am currently working on my 5th Incarnate at the moment and all but two of them has done the arc solo. This includes my Crab Spider, Thugs MM, Ill/Emp Troller, Plant/Rad Troller and my latest .. my SD/SS tank. The only ones that didn't complete the Trapdoor mission solo were the Ill/Emp [did it with several SG team mates] and the Thugs MM [did it with one SG team mate from my Villain Group].
Why is it that people are so quick to judge anything that actually uses a bit of thought and strategy as "cheating" or "taking the easy way out"? Pulling Trapdoor into the caves where his clones can't heal him is a perfectly sound strategy and can someone explain how it's any different than using knockback to shove him into the lava and keep him there? One strategy is utilizing the ability to KB an opponent the other is using the ability to Taunt.
So we, and by we I mean the OP and those that agree, are just giddy as can be that no one can taunt Trapdoor anymore. When you do the Protean arc do you stand fast and let him heal off you every time and trust in your overwhelming might to eventually beat him down.. Or do you run out of range so he stays damaged and then come back to pound on hims some more? If your answer is the second option.. just how is that any different than my Tank taunting Trapdoor into the caves and beating him senseless?
{SARCASM ALERT} thumbs through COH/V guidebook and tries to find section where every single encounter HAS to be an epic adventure or I get my money back. Hmmm I don't see that anywhere! LOL -
Quote:Yeah I am sure there are those out there but what they don't realize is they are RACING to grab a single Element at the end when if they took their time and actually defeated all or most of the enemies in the missions they could probably skip a couple, if not more TFS, because the amount of shards that would drop would allow them to BUILD all those little "end bits" they are so busy racing to obtain. LOL Like I said they are not exactly using a lot of Gr'ai matter.Wendy~ I get what your talkin about and like I said in other posts in made no sense to me.
Until I found out that the core ppl running the tf only wanted to get the end salvage.
Hell even after the tf was over some folks stayed on to clear the map, it seems some folks are just speeding it to get their last piece of salvage to complete w/e they need.
Personally I'm for the kill all and it looks like the vast majority of the population is too, but, as always there is a percentage that make you wonder why they do things the way they do.
Hope this clears up what I was tryin to get across.
Using their so called logic.. Lets say they manage to complete an ITF in 50 minutes and gran and Ancient Nictus Fragment along with maybe 4-5 shards. Then speed through a LGTF in say an hour and get a hero one and another 4 maybe 5 shards. Now assuming they plan to go with a Cardiac Boost, like I have, they go and buy a Gr'ai Matter with vanguard merits and have their common slot taken care of.. but they have a grand total of at most 10 shards toward that uncommon .. and need at least 8 just to build the uncommon element required plus another Hero One DNA. So its off to run another LGFT, waiting 18 hours so they can actually get the reward at the end and then they still need another Hero One Dna plus befiore they can craft an uncommon Cardiac Radial. They probably end up running 4-5 Task Forces taking between 4-5 hours to complete. I did this same thing KILLING ALL in 3 TFs in slightly over 4.5 hours. I'm not saying the Speed runs are not out there but less people are begging for them and more are looking for the "Let's defeat as much as we can find!" at least its what i have been seeing lately -
Sam you and I have very different play styles and always have. That said I can understand your frustration I did the Tin Man Tf several time on test before it went live and just recently did it on the live server with my badger. It is tougher than a normal TF but that is by design as many others have mentioned.. You are trying to improve yourself and eventually become an incarnate like Statesman. Frankly I didn't keep a real close watch but I was on a good team and if I recall correctly we had only 10 defeats during the TF and the only badge we didn't collect was for not setting off any proximity mines in mission one .. I know some teams have managed this but GOOD LUCK trying. As for the 54 level villains we really didnt have a bad time against them. Its the reason they STRONGLY suggest you have you new Alpha slot SLOTTED before attempting. It no only eliminated that -4 debuff so at least your a 50 level battling 54 instead of a 50 with the abilites of a 46 level trying to do the same thing but it also adds to your effectiveness so you can cope with a 54 level minion. Now I admit the team I was on had an outstanding mix for a PUG and included 3 VEATS upping everyone's defenses and quite a few of us had the uncommon slotted so we had not one but two bonuses going for us. I was on with my Crab Spider and not only was my END reducered by 33% on all applicable powers but my defense was increased by 20%. I died once on that TF and that was because I got a little TOO confident and got myself killed.
Honestly I'd do 20 Tin Man TFs before doing an Apex. I enjoy the first mission of the Apex TF but when we switch gears and find ourselves fighting Battle Maiden and her "Clouds of Instant Death", Crossbow that can one shot a Tank, and flying sword that attack at random I quickly grew to hate this thing. To date I have been on one successful one and that was on test.. even then when it was all over we had recorded more than 100 defeats and I spent more time running back to the hospital and refilling my inspiration trays that actually battling anything inside the mission. To me mission two of Apex is not about strategy or a test of strength .. its about seeing who can dodge around fast enough and long enough to survive. The worst part is I have seen some comments in global chat from people saying they enjoyed it and that it reminded them of the quests they'd run on WOW. Funny I remember the days when the player base here used to make fun of anyone that played WOW.. not longed to have more content that reminded them of that MMO. Oh and on test I did remark during one of many attempts at APEX that the flying swords made me feel like some Dev out there had way too big a crush on the whole Harry Potter stuff. Magical flying swords that defend their Mistress? Give me a break... and after we defeat them do we catch the train to Hogworts before facing off with Battle Maiden and Voldamere or do we step through a magical portal? They came up with 8 new villain groups in Praetoria when Issue 18 hit and flying swords and random clouds of instant death were the BEST idea they could come up with to assist BM after we spent the entire mission before that battling Clockwork, Warwalkers along with Rikti and Hydra.
I will probably keep trying Apex until I get a successful one on my badger but for the rest of my potential incarnates I have no desire to spend an hour or two seeing how close i can get to my next debt badge and just how much INF I can waste refilling my inspiration tray.
Now to switch gears and recommend something to you. It sounds like you did a Hami Raid years ago under the old system ... I do them from time to time, even before they started dropping shards, and things have changed drastically. I don't think I have ever seen a Hami raid take more than an hour and normally they fill up so fast people are disappointed when they can't get into the Hive or Abyss because its full. Now the leaders do have it down to a system so you will get directions on how and when to do things.. then again we are basically talking a 50 man team so that's to be expected. Pssst to be honest I like the ones in the Abyss better and usually sneak my Vigilantes over there for them.
Not sure what I 20 will hold but I'd expect more of the same. They do hint at some higher level Praetorian content so maybe that will include some 50 level arcs that are solo friendly. -
Quote:Yes .. what Gavin and Katze said is 100% correct.. Now add in that you are facing an enemy that is level 54 and THAT is where the -8 comes from. You are a 50 level with a -4 debuff effectively making your powers react like you are a 46 level. Your facing level 54 enemies so do the math ... 46 -54 = -8When you run the taskforces the praetorians are surprised that you are able to fight back. They thought no primal earth defenders would be immune to Cole's new power. Being an incarnate gives you power on a par with cole enabling you to fight at full strength. If you are not an incarnate, you are vulnerable to cole's powers and therefore you get dropped -4 levels.
Now consider the fact that both of these TFs contain rather difficult battle, even if everyone on the team is slotted, and you can see why team leaders are not willing to add anyone that has not taken the time to slot their Alpha before trying Apex or Tin Man. I did that once on test and believe me with that -8 level differnce you rarely hit anything with your attacks and when you do its for practicvally no damage at all. Everyone I spoke to in chat while on the Beta site had the same feeling which was that when I 19 went live they wouldn't even think about running either TF with anyone on their team that was not slotted.
No one is demanding that everyone on the team have an uncommon slotted that I have seen .. they just want something in that slot so your are hurting the team. Run one ITF and one LGFT and you should have plenty of shards plus the two free components so you can craft a common Alpha enhancer and you're all set. Since, on Virtue anyway, these seem to be going day and night it shouldn't take long to find either and in a few whours your all set. -
I had a shard drop during a Rikti Invasion the other night which sort of suprised me since someone had told me that same thing.. While they have no assigned level basically the invasion forces are mostly 30 levels .. that was based solely on the level of the recipes that dropped during invasions.
I was battling invading troops, not bombs, and to be honest I was on my Crab Spider with all of my pets out and using my AoE attacks as much as possible to get credit for as many defeats as possible so I really have no clue what prompted the drop. I know we did battle Heavy Suits at least twice during that invasion but I can't even recall if any of them were out at the time the shard dropped.
I suppose it is possible that the EBs could be 50s and potentially dro shards but I'd have to think there are a lot quicker and easier ways to get shards than racing all over the place chasing Rikti and Zombie invasions hoping for ONE shard. :-D Happy hunting! -
Quote:HUH? I'm sorry but if anything the shards have slowed things down a bit. Before I-19 Speed TFs had become more and more common because no one cared about earning badges all they wanted was a quick payoff at the end in Merits. People doing TFs for shards may be moving fast at times but they are not blasting past mobs to reach the end .. Shard rates are tided completely to X number of defeats and stealthing, running or skipping huge portions of the map severely cuts into the number of shards you get. I did a LGFT tonight that was practically a kill all... by the time we finished off the Honoree it was getting late so we skipped a few mobs on the outskirts of the generator chamber but I left with 11 shards. I have done ITFs where we actually stayed and cleared the towers and all of the walls before leaving... and that was after fighting our way from the ship all the way to Romulus and Requeim in the mission prior to that.As soon as it became known that shards would drop in them.In addition to special salvage for the incarnate system.Faster you get it done the faster you get your reward.
Thank the devs for doing that.Personally I very rarely run tfs unless I need the special salvage.I do rikti raids and mishes for my shards though.
My suggestion start setting up your teams and explain to everyone what you are doing..who knows you might start a trend.
Now since shard hunting only applies to LGTF, ITF, STF, KAHN TF, LRSF and the Baraccuda SF I am sure there are still speed runs going on the lower level ones. And there are still the slightly uninformed or just completely STUPID out there that think they can use the same SPEED TF mentality on the high level ones and then complain because it takes so long to get all the shards they need. I took a 50 level Plant/Rad troller out tonight for her first shard hunting .. She had 1 Shard at the beginning of the evening from completing the Mender Arc the day before. I did a Kahn TF and while we did take out a lot more mobs than most of the KAHNS I have been on it was hardly a kill all but I finished with 5 more shards and an Dimensional Keystone. I did the LGTF and that was a Kill all .. finished up with a total of 17 shards (11 more) and added a Hero One DNA. I used 4 shards to build an Essence of the Incarnate and had a Musculature Boost slotted and 13 shards left toward my umcommon. All that took was about 3 hours and tomorrow I will hook up with an ITF and should be able to slot an uncommon. -
Quote:yup yup I agree with Gavin. I have 26 Fifty levels and tonight my fourth put a common in her Alpha Slot. The other three, of course already hae their uncommons and my Badger has a very nice collection of shards and components for when the rare/very rare arrive. Earlier today I pulled out my KM/REGEN Scrapper and soloed until I got her to level 28 just to get away from LGTF, ITF, STF, LRSF. KAHN TF, or Baracuda TF. Don't make it into a grind.. yes its the bright new shiny but there are other things to do in game. At the same time the Kahn TF I did tonight was forming someone was putting together a Posi 1 and it filled just as fast as the kahn I was a part of. Hey even if you WANT to play your 50 level but are just plain tired of Task Forces join a Tips team.. You work toward another reward and still have the chance for shard drops.. Remember as long as it's 50 level content.. there is a chance for shards. Then don't do them all at once.
I have 27 Alts on Virtue alone, and another 7 on Justice. I have respecced exactly 4 of them. Their builds have been working just fine for over a year. While, yes I now have the ability to make them better, I have no NEED to do it right away. The game didn't get any harder, so they can still do everything they used to do with exactly the same skill.
there are tons more pugs running high-end task forces, so I can get a lot of my 40s into them and leveled up. Don't need to be an incarnate for the ITF or Barracuda.
I have two of my characters who I am simply logging in once every three days and autocompleting thier incarnate missions and checking the market.
I have three who are finished with their alpha slotting (two differnt uncommons and a bit of stockpile for the next release), who I can bring onto Apex or Tin Mage if I want to. I got all three done in one day last weekend and it didn't even take the whole day to pull it off.
It is only a grind if you deliberately choose to make it one. Put your 50s down and go do something else. I took my new Peacebringer through A Sister Psyche last Sunday, had people jumping all over me to join in when I announced it. Took all of 3 minutes to form up the team and there were enough leftovers that someone else did one at the same time with the people who weren't fast enough to get into my team. So looks like a lot of people still want to do non-incarnate stuff. Should be easy for you to find a team to play with. -
I see nothing wrong with this idea and have wondered about it myself. Let's just leave RP out of this .. Tickets are another form of currency in game just like INF and Vanguard Merits.
Personally I have some characters with more than 1000 reward merits and when I discovered i could BUY a Gr'ai Matter with my Vanguard Merits my first thought was "Why can't I buy something with the regular ones?" Put the same time limit of 18 hours on it and limit it to one type and it wouldn't be any different than what we have now at the Vanguard base. -
Quote:/SIGNED If you are looking for a huge killing nuke the Omega Maneuver will disappoint but unlike most of those it doesn't leave you completely drained of END and I have 2 recharge reducers slotted with mine so I can use it about every 3 minutes or so. Just like Jibikao says it taunts, has a good range so you can place it without being attacked and after it goes off not only has everything taken a good deal of damage .. everything is stunned and not able to attack while you pick them off. Oh one more thing it can be placed almost anywhere I have actually used it during the LGTF and set one off in mid air taking out one of the blues during the Hamidon mission. It's lower damage than a "true" nuke because it has no endurance crash. It is an EXCELLENT power. Very unique.
You can drop it "out of sight". It taunts, and takes all alpha damage, and it does "decent" aoe damage and it stuns! I can't think of any reason to skip it or drop it besides the fact that you like to "gimp" yourself.
It's a very unique power. Take it and love it and use it wisely! If your team is already killing so fast, dropping it may not serve much purpose. -
Quote:I agree with Indiramourning 100%. I think Positron only referred to the Incarnate system as "END GAME" content because they have no intention of raising the level above 50 so in a sense its stuff you do at game's end. Your as high in level as you can ever become but who says that means your life as a hero or villain is over? What does it have to do with "End Game", seems like a new beginning to me for our level 50 characters. But I agree with you in that I don't like games where the "End Game" is what you shoot for. It's the journey to max level, not the arrival, that I enjoy.
I see the Incarnate system as new content for our level 50 characters. And here I am now playing some characters I haven't playing in years and having a ball. Doesn't feel like any kind of End Game at all.
Heck the incarnate system alone, not even mentioning to 2 new Task Forces and a hinted at promise of more to come, will keep a 50 level busy for quite a while. We have the first of 10 total new power options to play with and not even all of that yet. I am totally enjoying playing my 50s again and look forward to see just how powerful they can become in the future as more and more of the incarnate slots open to us. -
Quote:Well yes all those would be fantastic Balanced but I think you may, or may not, be doing what some others are and confusung the Alpha slot with a new power. Its not a power its like adding a 7th enhancement slot to ones that already exist and enhancing even more. Take my Crab Spider.. She gets a 33% End reduction to any power that will accept End Reducers normally and a 20% addition to the ones that enhance her damage resistance. So even on attacks, etc, that I never bothered to use an end reduction enhancer on before I now get a 33% reduction and on ones that I did add a reducer to it adds even more. One of the posts that Flarstuk had seemed to indicate the same thing. He was disappointed because he'd opened the slot but with no enhancer in it .. he didn't perform any better than before. He referenced Quick Recovery and the fact that once you obtain that POWER even with nothing in the slot it still boosts your ability to recover end. I'm not sure how the other 8 slots we've been promised will work but the Alpha is not a power its like going from Level 20 to level 21 and now being able to add more slots to the power you selected at 20. Until you add those slots and then go buy or craft enhancements to put in them the empty slots are not helping one bit.Yes, I can. It would be convenient, certainly, but not particularly interesting--it would be more of the same, when we could instead have semi-custom nukes, pets, universal procs, or any number of other things that would increase our effectiveness as much, but in different ways.
Like I said, I'm enjoying the current Incarnate stuff, and I like what the Alpha slot is doing for my characters. I definitely want variety, though.
Now if they do come up with future slots that act like additional powers it would be great. Like you mentioned an added Nuke, extra pet or whatever would be really nice but I would imagine they will just find different powers to enhance like they have done with the Alpha. Maybe future slots will do things like some of the rare or Uncomon IOs do now.. 25% more accuracy, 25 percent less end and 15% more range.. things like that. We could see one that centers solely on travel powers increasing flight speed, run speed, jump heights, teleport distances etc.. and then add reductions in end cost or increases in recharge times. Its hard to guess what they have planned but if the Alpha enhancemenets are any indication it should be a lot of fun. -
Quote:I know what you are saying but until I see something official like this:Oh, I wouldn't say that. Thanks to a few leaks, we've got a pretty good idea what the Judgement slot is going to be. We've also got hints about the Lore and Interface slots, I believe. Nothing official, of course, and nothing is certain until they go live, but we do have a few clues. If those clues are anything to go by, none of the other slots will offer the same type of benefits as the Alpha slot--which is a good thing, in my opinion. "Another Alpha slot" would be rather boring.

I tend to dismiss just about anything that the rumor mill produces here. I had one person here tell me it wasn't possible to earn shards during a Rikti invasion and he made a pretty sound argument ... Despite having no assigned level most of the recipe drops you get from an invasion, even as a 50 level, are 30 levels recipes so he argued that the Rikti had an unofficial level of 30 and therefore would not drop shards. Well low and behold the other night I was selling off a few things I'd gotten on an ITF when the Rikti attacked Cap Au Diable and I decided to help out. I ended with several new pieces of salvage, one or two new recipes, and one new SHARD. So much for that THEORY! {lol} The chances are each new slot will have it's own unigue power enhancers but even if a few were just copies of some of the Alpha slot abilities can you REALLY say being able to enhance every attack you have so it does 45% more damage, uses 45% less end, recharges 45% faster and is 45% more accurate is boring?
Oh and Lord_Nightblade in response to your comment ....Quote:Slots that only work when you're level 50. If you're playing at that level all the time, then that's an excellent bonus. If you do a lot of stuff that requires exemping, then the Alpha Slot is not so useful.
Issues 20 and 21 already promise the addition of more 50 level End game content to challenge us so I seriously doubt they ever plan to change things so the Alpha works below the big Five Zero. -
Quote:No Mallerick the idea is you EARN your new godlike powers and earn them slowly.. based on the cutscene from the last mission of the Alpha slot arc. Now I realize not everyone has a lot of time to spend on line playing this or any game and for some teaming can be difficult do to aging computers that force you to mainly solo BUT after I completed the arc and opened my Alpha slot I was able to fill it in a matter of three hours or so.Maybe the Alpha Slot should come with a default enhancement, even just a plain, dull gray one that boosts your Accuracy, Damage, Recharge, or Endurance Reduction by 5% each. That way there's SOMETHING there, and you'd be able to run the Apex/Tin Mage TFs.
It could be like the Origin Temp Powers we all get when we create a new character; useful in a tiny way.
I did one LGFT (1 Hero One DNA sample earned plus shards), one ITF (1 Ancient Nictus fragment earned plus shards), and then used 150 Vanguard Merits to buy 1 Gr'ai Matter. At that point I had all the elements I needed to create a Cardiac Boost and equip my Alpha Slot without using a single one of the shards I had earned. One day later I had a Cardiac Radial Boost slotted and now I have both the Cardiac Radial and Core available along with 40 shards and 8 different elements [3 Ancient Nictus fragments, 2 Hero One DNA samples, 2 Gr'ai Matter and 1 Essence of the Incarnate] as I save up for the Rare and Very Rare slots to come. Okay I am retired and can sit down at my computer at 6PM and play until 2 0r 3AM if I feel like it.. and no I never do that {I'd go insane LOL} But even a casual player that can only play a few hours on the weekends should have no problem opeing their Alpha slot and having at least a common slotted by the end of one weekend of casual gaming.
I think for once the Devs are making us earn something rather than just handing it to us and it seems to me most players enjoy the new challenge. -
Unlike a lot of players I tend to pace myself a bit with new content so a month later I am not bored and longing for the next new thing. I have 26 Fifty levels total and so far I have done respecs and opened Alpha Slots on four of them. Hey the system isn't going to be repealed and I have so many Vet reward respecs available I am hardly worried about losing one freespec. I do have my favorites, of course, but none of those 50 levels farmed or PLed their way to FIVE ZERO they all worked their way up doing TFs, Trials, joining countless PUG, etc so each of them is special to me in some way. The first to log and get slotted was my Badger and between running various task forces she also visited Praetoria and all the hazard zones grabbing up every badge possible.
As for the Incarnate System itself.. I am enjoying it completely and like you I can't wait to see what the future holds. a total of nine available incarnate slots eventually makes one wonder just how powerful we can become and what changes and new challenges it will present in future content.
My badger, a Crab Spider, alone has become awesome with a 33% increase in End along with a 20 % increase in Defense. Just using the other available power choices we have now I can only imagine what she'd be capable of if she could add a 33% increase in damage, a 33% increase in accuracy and a 33% increase in recharge speed on every single power. And we haven't even gained access to the rare and very rare slots yet.. The mind boggles when you think about 9 seperate powers that vastly increase the overall effectiveness of up to 18 or more categories of powers. So basically if all the next three avaialble slots did was offer us the exact same choices as what we have now with the Alpha slot it would eventually be possible to have:
45% increase in End Reduction on all powers
45% increase in Accuracy on all powers
45% increase in Damage on all powers
45% increase in Reharge Reduction on all powers
33% increase in Immobilization time on all powers
33% increase in Hold times on all powers
33% increase in Healing
33% increase in Defense DeBuff
20% increase in Damage Resistance
20% increase in Defense Buffs
Of course we have no clue exactly what those next slots will actually offer but those options alone would make using my Crab Spide for what is now normal 50 level content a joke. She soloed the Incarnate arc before she even had an Alpha slot and had very little trouble with Trapdoor or any of the other Elite Bosses she faced. Give her all that stuff listed above and she'd be mopping the floor with Praetorian AVs in Maria's old or new arc. -
Hyperstrike hit it just right.. Hey there are players out there with more than 6 years of game time under their belts and with multiple 50s on multiple servers. Suddenly all those 50 levels have something NEW to do. Something designed to make them more powerful .. make them, eventually, the equal of Statesman or Lord Recluse. Of course they are concentrating on it. I can remember what it was like when COV finally upped the maximum level a Villain could be from 40 to 50 (to match the COH heroes) and 40 level villains were rushing around desperately trying to get those next 10 levels.... about the ONLY thing any of them wanted to do with low level content was obtain all the badges they'd skipped. I made MILLIONS letting 40 levels team with me on badge missions when they discovered that now those badges they'd skipped were part of accolades that granted them added powers.
It may take a while but eventually everyone will have their 50 level all slotted with uncomon alphas and until the rare/very rare or another SLOT opens up they will go back to leveling alts.. if for no other reason than to get them to 50 so THEY can start slotting. I'm usually willing to team with anyone these days thanks to SSK but even I have turned donw or completely ignored Tells asking if I wanted to join a 43 level AV team or a Silver Mantis SF. "Hey I am in shard acquisition mode here! I don't have time for that stuff right now. See me in a month or so" :-D
Oh and speaking of badges don't forget you have the serious BADGE Hounds out there right now racing around Praetoria and all the hazard zones grabbing up all the new badges they have access to as well. The very first character I logged on when 19 went live was my badger.. My 50 level Crap Spider [Rogue] and after I got my a common slotted in my Alpha I tool time out to grab ever history, exploration, accolade, defeat and event badge in Praetoria and then made the rounds grabbing up all the new exploration badges/accolades in the hazard zones as well. And trust me I was not alone in the underground beneath Nova Preaetoria, Imperial City or Neutropolis. -
It was about the same for me.. Finished the Mender Arc and hooked up on a ITF follwed that with a LRSF and I had more than enough for my common in about 3 hours time. One LGTF and a purchase of Gi' Kar (?) with vangaurd merits and I had my umcommon slotted.
Biggest thing I have noticed so far is some people just don't quite get that shard drops are NOT tied to mission complete. I ran several ITFs on Beta and in less then 2 hour hoiurs we killed just about everything on every map. I got 12, 10 and 11 shards that way. I did one the other day on live and the team was doing a real good imitation of a speed run and then couldn't understand why they only got 4 or 5 shards. I forget the breakdown someone did exactly but its something like 1000 minions = 1 shard 580 Lieutenants = 1shard
300 plus bosses = 1 shard. No one I saw even had figures on AVs or EBs but the point was skipping huge amounts of mobs to get to the end works fine if all you want is reward merits and a badge but if you want maximum shards KILL everything (forget the speed run).
It also helps to run different TFs not the same one over and over. You can only get one Hero 1 DNA sample every 18 (or is it 20?) hours by completing a LGTF. Same thing with the Nictus Fragment awarded at the completion of an ITF. Do it twice and you'll still get your shard drops but you only get the option to take reward merits not another fragment. So I am a Rogue I can do a LGTF, ITF, Dr Kahn TF, Statesman TF, Barracuda SF and a LR SF all in the same day and get a bonus at the end of each along with all my shard drops. Add in a Hami raid.. not sure but maybe even two, one red side and one blue side, and a Mothership raid and I could have uncommons of just about every kind built without repeating a single TF.
LOL NO I have not spent THAT much time on line doing back to back to back to... TF/SFs but at this point my Crab spider has several Uncommons crafted and enough shards for another common slot enhancer. I am now into saving shards for when the rare and ultra rares become available. Oh and working on commons and uncommons for some of my other 50s :-D -
For me this was simple .. Operative Tessa, my 50 level Crab Spider, has a bio that states she is part of a special Ops section that work undercover and pretty much do whatever they please. Also I include the fact that in reality she is only working FOR Lord Recluse to gain vital information useful to the Super Villain Group she helps to run. Then using Alan's missions coupled with completing the Destine One arc from my patron after level 45... I have gone to Recluse and shown him the mask I took from his body after defeating him in the future. I have been promoted to a position where I can pretty much do whatever A darn well like as long as i promise NOT to fulfill my destiny and KILL Recluse in the future and take control of all from him. Since the entire SG is nothing but Rogues that work for whoever they please, good or bad, and so is Tessa running off to do a few good deeds is fine with Recluse so long as I don't hand him his head. LOL Tessa has been a Rogue, a Hero, A Vigilante, a Villain (again) and finally back to Rogue as she has moved along collecting badges and earning merits from almost every TF/SF imaginable. I used to try and list all the EB/AVs she'd defeated and at some point simply gave up and added a line.. "Oh let's just face facts. She doesn't get along with anyone!"
"It's good to be able to pummel the King!" ... with apologozes for the BAD paraphrasing to Mel Brooks {History of the World, Part 1]. :-D
