Quote:I agree that the first 24 levels are HARD! The VEATs are extremely and incredibly underpowered compared to the normal archetypes. The damage is low and their protection is horrible. However once you get in the mid 20s, giving you SOs and the Bane/Crap/Night Widow/Fortunata build, things change. And in the end levels the VEATs are very strong, possibly the strongest archetype, since they combine a lot of goodness from various archetypes.
This is not to say that the AT is insta win, more that they got a very good toolbox and in the hands of a good player the VEATs can do a lot of awesome feats of power. But because of their versatility they aren't as good as the specialists at their particular role. The VEATs may be durable, but a tanker tanks better. They deal damage, yet can't reach a blaster. They buff the team greatly, yet not fully as much as designated buffers.
All that is true Thermal but with a VEAT you get damage close to a blaster along with Buffs and a team mate that is almost as survivable as a tank .. or at least as survivable as a scrapper if not better (About the same HPs and a lot of Defense some scrappers builds would kill to have). Get a couple VEATS on the same team and suddenly no one is taking extreme damage and things just seem to die very quickly. Then add in potential venom grenades, poisonous rays, etc and while its no where near the debuff of a controller things are taking more damage and taking it quicker. Its a win/win situation! -
Quote:Used surveillance on hami while pylons were up, no negative modifiers to any of his stats at all (including perception and range).
heheh somehow I suspected this was the case. this is just the latest FOTM strategy for taking down Hami in Lady Grey. I have done numerous LGTFs where the pylons stayed up and where they were gone and really never noticed any difference in how often or how much damage Hami was doing while we cleared Mitos. I've told several new leaders that people were leaving them up but I didn't know if it changed a thing. OBVIOUSLY it doesn't.
Oh and there is NOTHING written in stone that says while the Melee players are taking out yellows the ranged can't already be tackling blues.. I did it with my Blaster on one and by the time the yellows were gone I'd managed to take out all but one blue. -
Quote:In a team of seven Tankers and one Blaster, the Blaster will steal all the aggro. All of it. If the Blaster doesn't, he's not doing his job right.
heheh /signed All I have to do is lay down Rain of Fire and I am damaging everything in range... and as fast as they can they will start toward me intent of removing my cute head. Of course I always have Blazing Aura and Hot Feet going doing minor damage to anything close I then add in Burn, Fire Sword Circle and Fireball at close range and when the smoke clears most of the stuff around me is gone. Did I mention I am one NASTY little B.. err Blaster
Oh and Sorry Aett but I have to agree with yoiur detractors. I have been the EMP on numerous STFs with my ILL/EMP troller and the Tank even set up close enough so while I was constantly hitting him with CM, Fort and Heal Others my Phantom Army and Phantasm could help the rest of the team take down towers. I never once had LR peel off to attack me. The ONLY time I ever drew aggro was on one run where Black Scorpion peeled off from the Tank and one shotted me. The tank was low on end and stopped stopped taunting to pop several blues .. I was the next closest target and I earned a trip to the hospital aboard ship. Healing aura don't affect enemies in any way so how my little green numbers could draw aggro is something I find hard to believe -
Quote:Whatever the current WST should be available somewhere in game. I suggest one of the following methods...
-Message of the Day! That popup that sometimes happens when you log in? Have one every tuesday saying what the new WST is.
-Add to your contacts tab the WST contact if you're high enough level to use that contact, and have unlocked them for the TFs where that's necesarry.
-Put someone in Ouroboros that explains WSTs and tells players which the weekly WST is
Plenty of implementation options, and it doesn't have to be special, it just has to be /there./
I agree but keep in mind the WST is for more than just the 50 level crowd looking for Notice of the Day.. Any TF can be picked including Posi One or Two so a contact in Ouro is hardly fair to anyone from level 10 -24 that can't get there but could be on a Posi One, Posi Two, Synapse or Sister Psyche (this week's WST) or the Tarikoss and Silver Mantis SF (Mantis being this weeks's Villain side WST as well). Your idea for a WST contact on your contact tab is good.. sort of like a radio/newspaper contact that we can access to find out what the TF is this week and see what is coming up over the next month.
Another possible solution would be a contact (NPC) stationed in the Crucible (Red Side) and FT Trident (Blue Side) with the same info. OR .... Just add a tab to all of the current TF contacts so that anyone in ANY zone that has a TF contact can simply click on that contact and pull up the WST. The idea of a MOTD isn't bad but as mentioned can be annoying depending on when it pops up and it could even be missed entirely. They need to find some solution though at the moment on Virtue the TF global channel is listing the WST for the month. That's great but only about 750 players belong plus that means someone on the channle is coming here to the forums, finding out what the WST is and then posting it on line for our membership. Like I said very nice but realistically that person is doing someone's job that WORKS for NC SOFT and gets PAID to do that sort of thing. Yeah we all know everyone is busy working on issue 20 but let's finish up the job on 19/19.5 first -
I know I will regret this but Doc Q is the ONLY current TF/SF left that I don't have on my badger.. So if there is room I can bring a 50 (+1) Crab Spider ( Operative Tessa). LOL
-
Quote:Oh heck yes don't even worry about it. Sounds like you were on a good team that didn't take the failed attempt badly so why should you? I took my SD/SS tank on a Master Of Kahn when it was the WST. We not only got to the final room but down to the last AV.. then one of the Squishies (not sure if it was a Defender or a Controller) got a bit too close to Reichmann when the lightning hit and "FAILED CHALLENGE" .No big deal about 1 minute later we had mission complete and everyone was happyIt happens. It sucks when it does, but I wouldn't worry about it to much.
This is why when I run Master of Taskforces, I always say "Attempting a MoTF" so people know it's an attempt not a promise, and hopefully have them not feel as bad if they do die.
As for the stealing aggro. You're a Brute, you generate aggro as well, not to mention, don't believe the hype.
Aggro can be ripped off any tank with the right factors.
My Ice/Ice/Arctic Tanker couldn't keep aggro on Romi, with 2 aggro auras, taunt and attacking before anyone else did anything, once the Shield Scrapper got into range of Romi, who immediately said "Haha Ice Tanker pffft. I want the Shield Scrapper"
I've also seen Blasters just pull off aggro on my ice tanker.
My main was Confronting/Range Blasting Recluse for a good 3 minutes, a shield scrapper just ran by Recluse on the way to the next tower, didn't attack him, Recluse was just hit with the Shielder's AAO, aggro was ripped that easily.
As to what BrandX mention I can personally attest to the fact that a Blaster can steal aggro from even the best of tanks. I just finished up an ITF earlier and was on my Fire/Fire Blaster. I managed on several occasions to draw off the Elite Bosses with my attacks. In most of those cases I was able to survive long enough to rush over close to the tanker and give the aggro RIGHT BACK.. cause I have no desire to TANK with my Blaster. Her motto is "If anyone wants me I'll be the one in the back setting everything on fire and running like heck if anything gets past the rest of you" LOL -
I think my favorite Troller is my Plant/Rad. She can and does solo well and on a team the debuffs, holds and immobs make her a crowd pleaser. She was especially popular last week when the WST was Lady Grey.. its amazing how fast a Green Mitos dies when it's being strangled by vines and has three to Hit Debuffs on it
My Ill/Emp was very popular during the STF since she helped several tanks stay alive while facing Lord Recluse and she too can solo nicely. Malta gunslingers and sappers hate her .. she confuses them and they wind up helping her before her Phantom Army kills them. She was very helpfull this week on the Sister Psyche TF since she can stealth all those missions and save time!
Hey Just about any Troller can be a blast so pick what you like and enjoy! -
Well it has been a while since I posted here mainly because I really haven't had any horror stories to relate.. This is until today! I was on Sister Psyche TF number 9 of 9 with my ILL/EMP Controller (Perfect for stealthing those base leader and sonic device missions in Sis P). So the team leader has 7 of 8 slots filled and then the next thing I see is new mission.. Investigate Freakshow activity in Skyway. I make my way to SKY and along with the tank and 2 other members of the team we are in the sewer, staring at the first mob and waiting on the rest to arrive. When I see in chat.....
"How do I add another member after the TF starts? It won't let me" After having that explained to him we all head back to IP to reform. I no sooner arrive in IP and apparently the potential 8th member has disappeared and we "decide" to go ahead with 7. /em eyes roll
Okay after the 2nd mission, which I stealth us through successfully, I head to Talos to speed things along when the leader comes on team chat again...
"So what city is the contact in cause she won't talk to me?" We explain she's in Independence Port and he makes his way there. As soon as he bring up the "Talk To" mission I click the contact, since I have been waiting in front of him for several minutes now,and we get to the board train missions.
We get through those okay but somewhere along the way lose a member to either DC or RL .. now we are at 6.
We start the kill alls and the first is in Talos ... after that we head to Steel and then Skyway to finish up. At some point the leader uses his Ouro Portal and we see this in chat..
"Why wont the contact talk to me anymore? I am still the team leader but she keeps asking to speak to the leader." Bright boy is a Rogue MM and has Teleported into the Rogue Isles! We have to direct him back.. showing him the several options that will get him back to the BLUE side.
By this time we have lost another team mate to serious Computer issues and overhear the leader telling that member to try to reboot. "Don't quit you will still be on the team when you get back!" Well team mate 6 never came back BUT we got to fight his/her added mob members!
Now I am starting to stealth since this thing is getting LONG and I find Axel -F and we defeat him. Guess what ocurs next..
Team leader drops and as we head into the final few missions we now have a 4 man team. 1 Tank, 1 Blaster, 1 Troller (me) and 1 Defender. Okay No big deal the next couple missions are click the glowie and move on which we do with ease and get to the final.
It becomes painfully obvious now that several members never quit the team, probably including our former fearless (and clueless?) leader, as we are fighting huge mobs and darn near team wipe a few times. I stealth and start finding hostages to rescue and FINALLY we manage to get a mission complete.... In only 2 Hours and 52 minutesKeep in mind this was the 9th time since Tuesday I have done this TF and most were barely over one hour with 2 lasting around 1:30 because we had a lot of lower levels on board and spent more time killing stuff so they could level. I don't think I have ever done a Sister Psyche that took so long.. Heck I don't think I ever did a Synapse TF that took that long!
Anyway all of my Incarnates have now completed week 4's WST and I can move on to other things. I still have only had two Failures on WSTs and both were week one (the STF) with that same team leader but this was an even bigger nightmare than those failures.. No shards, no chance at a purple drop, recipes and salvage base on being a 25 level and after almost three hours the only good thing I can say is .. I got my Notice of the Well and the three players that stayed with me (I eventually became team leader) were fantastic. Here is hoping things go better next week on the APEX TF -
Actually I don't have anything BAD to report at all the past two weeks. I lost track of how many Kahn TFs I completed at around 20 with no failures and I did about 12 LGTFs with no a single failure. Along the way I manages one Master of Kahn and came SOOOOO close to another with my tank. We were perfect until the last AV sprang to life to assist Reichmann and after defeating .. I think it was Countess Crey one of the Defenders on the team go a bit too close to Reichmann when he fired off his lightning bolts and "Challenge Failed" Ah well
About two minutes later Reichmann fell too and the TF was over.
I noticed Zombie Man talking about the strategy of just skipping the COT in the Thorn Tree mission of the STF.. DId that a number of times and it worked well. I also did a couple where we combined things.. killing COT and taking out vines as we went along.. that worked too.
On the Kahn TF I was on a number of teams that all but ignored the AVs as they spawned and just kept pounding on Reichmann. The ones I tanked on that went that way I'd taunt the AVs to get them close to me and then they took damage from the AoE attacks.
I think my favorite though was a recent Lady Grey. The team leader needed shards and while he left it up to the team really wanted to steam roll.. not necessarily a kill all but definately a kil; anything we see and don't shortcut too much. Well we had one player DC badly in mission one and simply disappeared never to be seen again. the Brute quit after mission one with no explanation.. The Leader did say he was the lone player that wanted a speed run so he probably left us to find one. Then we lost one more player before it was over. We let Infernia and Galacia die as most seem to these days.. GOD they talk forever and half the time the ambush arrives before they get done chatting. I WANT TO SHOOT THEM MYSELF lol Didn't have too much trouble with Hami and the 5 of us with no brute or tank managed to take down Hero one and Hro' Dtohz with no problem. I was amazed at how well it went with no aggro control and the guy that left between mission 3 and 4 was one of our heavy damage dealers. Just proves that good players can succeed on almost any mission if they know how to play their characters and how to team!
So to date I have had a grand total of two failures and a TON of success stories on the WST and that includes the 4 Sister Psyche's I already have done this week. -
March 1st to March 7th - Alpha Strike (from Apex in the Rikti War Zone)
March 8th to March 14 - Soul of the Woodsman (from Numina in Founders' Falls) / The Crystal of Serafina (from Ice Mistral in St. Martial)
March 15th to March 21st - Time's Arrow (from Imperious in Cimerora)
March 22nd to March 28th - The Praetorian Offensive (from Tin Mage Mark II in the Rikti War Zone)
March 29th to April 4th - Following Countess Crey (from Manticore in Brickstown) / The Temple of the Waters (from Operative Renault in Sharkhead Isle)
Well in case anyone is still wondering there it is!
So next week we all get to do Apex which is 2 missions long and generally drops about 2-3 shards maybe 4 if you are REALLY lucky. Plus I hate even trying that with my melee so I'll probably only do it with my Blasters and my Crab.
Week after we get Numina... Sigh so we get the JOY of trying to find 20 Council in Boomtown and PRAY that no Rikti Raids, Zombie Attacks or Banner events occur while we are running one or we all get to sit around twiddling our thumbs waiting to finish the task force. and of course forget any shards at all
Then its the ITF FINALLY.. a 45-50 level TF that has great shard drop potential and everyone these days knows how to run one and succeed.
Then its Tin Mage which is pretty good and I'll do that with any character but again only three missions and not a huge shard drop rate
And then Manticore. I actually like Manti and it can be finsihed pretty quickly if a team wants to but once again no shard drops.
I am beginning to wonder if the DEVS realize we have a LOT of players with multiple 50s and not every one of them has all the shards they need. I did 4 Sister Psyche TFs today and on two of them people were complaining that now they had all the Notices they needed but still had to get 10, 20, 30 ?? shards before they could craft a Tier 4. I am running 9 characters through incarnates at the moment. Today three made their Tier 4 enhancement and got their Incarnate badge. the forth has the 2 rares she requires, has her 2 Notices but still needs about 20 more shards before she is done. And I have 5 more to do this week. None of them are in a position where as soon as the Notice drops they can craft. I'll get there of course but these low level WSTs do not make it any easier. -
Quote:I'm not necessarily against the idea of having ranked (i.e. gold, silver, bronze) versions of defeat badges. But there are currently so many enemy groups out there that don't even have ONE badge right now that I'd prefer to see a bunch of those added before I'd worry about giving older ones multiple versions.
I agree with Lothic. I already have not one but TWO badges for taking down Skulls? And it takes 500 Skulls to get that first one. Of course the 50 Skull bosses you defeat can be counted twice while you hunt them in Perez. We have two badges for Council... Warwolves and Vamprii. Heck even the TROLLS have more than one.. One for taking out bosses and then One for Supa Trolls and a third for busting up Raves. Hellions? Defeat 50 bosses and earn a badge .. then head over to Steel Canyon and earn another for defeating 25 of them (Volunteer Fireman). And the best part is most of the groups I just mentioned are not even considered MAJOR villains and disappear beyond level 20. Now be honest.. Especially since the badge isn't good for anything (no accolades attached) if you have the badge for defeating 500 Skulls do you REALLY want to defeat 750 for a silver and 1000 for a GOLD Skull killer badge? -
Quote:I was working on a post (since discarded - it didn't look like the point I was trying to make would get across, regarding rewards, time, teaming vs interest and the like.) But one of the illustrations I was going to use was the Lusca encounter.
"Back in the day," people used to swarm over to attack Lusca on a regular basis. I remember multiple teams joining to do so - then attacking the OTHER luscas while they were up. They weren't really interested in the XP or badge, it was a fun, social encounter (I base that on repeated "Hey, I got a badge!" and mid to late fight "How's the XP on this anyway?" type statements.)
It was at a point where the experience of the encounter was a reason to do it, and the rewards really DID balance out the risks (including the social rewards. No real pre-organizing needed, just get together and beat on future sushi.)
Now... XP's been nerfed, the merits aren't really worth it, and Lusca's treated like a piece of scenery. Which she is - she doesn't move, doesn't really "threaten" anything or the like.
Other GMs are much the same - they stand around, wander a bit, but really don't stand *out* much. I go after Scrapyard, for instance, because I need him and his followers badges to unlock a contact. The fight itself isn't too interesting (and is, frankly, more irritating than anything with his running everywhere and self-droning, not to mention timing out in the middle of a fight and "expiring," robbing people of the rewards they'd otherwise get regardless of damage.)
GMs should be more interesting, and the centerpiece of events. There should also be things that soloists and non-optimal teams can do to contribute to the event end, or "in" the event.
For instance - and I'm going to stay focused on Lusca here:
There are various ships in Independence Port doing their thing. Dockworkers working. Life is going on as usual. Suddenly, one of the ships puts out an SOS - it's being attacked! A hero going there will find a ship with a tentacle or three around it, the ship being rocked. If the creature isn't chased off in 10 minutes, the ship sinks and another ship is attacked. You have two options - you (or your team) can fight the creature if you do enough damage (and it will fight back!) or, if you can't overcome its regen/do enough damage/you're solo, you can enter the ship and rescue crew members (scaling if you have a team,) plus find the otherwise environmentally-hazardous cargo to put a mediport-type beacon on it and get it transported away. (Yes, the two can be done at the same time. Different badge/rewards, though.)
After that, regardless of result, another creature attacks the docks. You have to fight the creature and/or save the dockworkers (which could be an opportunity for a non-combat event, stabilizing badly injured dockworkers, either through healing powers or, if you don't have those, a med kit that the medics outside will give you, much like the steel canyon fires can be dealt with either by an extinguisher or ice powers.) Since the warehouse near the dockworkers is in flames, you can also work on your firefighter badges if you choose. (Great opportunity for teaming, as defeating the fires could extend the timer for rescuing the people inside.)
A third creature starts attacking one of the pumping stations near Terra Volta (center island.) This station helps refine cooling water for the reactor - this is critical! The creature's not just attacking pipework, but just its presence is blocking an intake. Again, either fight the creature, go inside to shut down overheating equipment/fight fires and/or fight off the Devouring Earth who have noticed and decided to attack as well.
If any or all of these have been completed in some form, Lusca appears (this time with a broken ship she destroyed when she surfaced.) A team can do the usual tentacle defeat, wait for resurface, etc. (with better XP/merit rewards than currently given - one merit per two tentacles, two at the end, and more worthwihle but not overpowering XP) or, if there aren't enough people interested, an individual can get into the broken ship to rescue the survivors before it sinks. Rescue all the survivors, get a temp power (missile strike) - the Navy won't attack with a civilian ship there, but it will if they're out of the way. (Like a warburg nuke, can take a tentacle or the head down to 1/3 health and reduce its regen - also usable elsewhere with somewhat lessened damage and -regen.)
Rewards depend on what you've done - you can keep the med pack (it works on teammates, too) if you have charges left over, or the fire fighting equipment (cold damage cone,) or the missile (described above,) etc - or all of them, if you've done them. Badges, of course, at multiple tiers (doing all the rescues/all the fires/all the fires plus steel canyon fires, though not part of the final event badge/got the missile) as well as the entire event (which doesn't all have to be done at the same time.)
Other examples:
Scrapyard - Is still a "mini GM" to me, really. Have his followers start causing mayhem - defeat the ones attacking cars/buildings, put out the fires they cause (or, alternately, add some of your own and let them take the blame!) Of course, reroute him so he doesn't kill himself on the BM's killfield, and if he's being (significantly) attacked (1/2 health or less) he doesn't despawn until he's either defeated, or regens more than 1/2 health and is left alone.
Kraken - I'm not 100% sure what to do with him. It's not a particularly interesting encounter. Beating on a GM that just stands around - eh. But it's another place to have him destroying something, or you can work on reestablishing a containment field (Vanguard learned where he came from and can send him back until the Rikti bring another - fight off attackers as you find/repair these and weaken him) or something similar. Little more challenge to come up with as it *is* a lower level zone.
The point, of course, is to make these *events.* Some (like defeating the monster construction) I think are fine, though the Paladin should be more interesting if he *does* get built.
In any case, these should have more "stuff" to get people interested and involved, even if they're not on a GM-defeat-capable team. Plus it would breathe new life into some of these zones by letting them have events (Perez/Boomtown, anyone?)
I like your idea Bill and I've been saying we need to do something about GM battles for quite a while. There was a brief period where hunting them for merits got popular but Speed runs on TFs and other doing Ouro missions sort of made those vanish.. why run around taking on Giant Monsters for 2 merits each when you can speed run through a TF and get 50? The XP, INF and rewards (an inspiration?_ just aren't enough to spark players to go after them UNLESS like you said there is something else of value involved.. Eochia and Jack in Iron helping to get the Geas of the Kind one ETC.
I think your event idea sounds like fun .. similar to the events now running in Praetoria which give players an option. One other thing I have suggested for a while now is an accolade for defeating them all and I mean ALL (well with one exception). It is very easy these days for a Villain to go Rogue and a Hero to go Vigilante.. so if you defeat:
Kraken (Perez Park), Babbage (Boomtown or Skyway), Lusca (IP), Adamastor (DA), Jurrasik (CF), Eochia (Croatoa), Jack in Irons (Croatoa), Kronos Titan (FF or in the LRSF), Ghost of Scrapyard (Sharkhead), Deathsurge (Cap), Caleb (Nerva) and the Arachnos Flyer (Grandvillle or the STF)
You earn an accolade with power. Never was sure what the power should be ... maybe a temporary Defense Buff or a temporary Debuff either of which would come in handy battling GMs or AVs in the future.
Your idea increases the number of potential badges a team can earn battling a GM and mine adds an accolade badge and another temp power they can use. Hey who knows we might even actually get people to attack the things again.
As we work on this week's WST and everyone I have been on so far has been around 1 Hour as we fly through it as fast as possible for our Notice of the Well, potential Favor of the Well and of course our tier 4 enhancement for the Alpha slot I have found myself wondering...
When they get around to picking Synapse as the WST just how many Babbages will we wind up with running around in Skyway as teams skip fighting him to get to the final mission and end the ordeal? LOL -
Quote:Reward versus Time, like everything else, is in the eye of the beholder.
In these last few weeks I was mostly interested in running WST TF/SFs as fast as possible. As someone who enjoys badging I wanted to finish 50 runs to get my Partner badge (the badge for running 50 assisted WST runs). Sure I was interested in other rewards like shards and merits, but my PRIMARY concern at the time was simply finishing the runs.
I've played this game for seven years so I've run all these TF/SFs in question dozens of times before the WST started both fast and slow. Now that I'm done with the Partner badge I'll probably eventually run those TF/SFs again fast OR slow depending on the situation.
So I don't think fast or slow is either always good or always bad. Just play the way you want and don't get "upset" when other people have different priorities than you do. *shrugs*
Oh I am not saying either way is BAD just different and both work just fine. One thing I have noticed with the few WST's I hve run this week is people that are 30, 40 or whatever short of the shards they need for their Teir 4 Alpha. Hmmmm So we raced through X number of TFs and got probably half the shards we could have if we'd slowed down and killed stuff and NOW as we are ready to get our 4th Notice and craft our Favor.. we suddenly realize we are 32 shards or more short and on a TF that is dropping zero shards, 25 level recipes (so forget a purple drop), and salvage that for the most part works toward buidling those same 25 level enhancements.
And really the only thing that upsets me is leaders that don't bother to advertise which type of TF it is. Like I said i have done both but when I am on a character that still needs SHARDS the last thing I want is a speed ITF.. since I have gotten as many as 11 or 12 on kill alls. And I was on a Kahn TF last week that the leader decided WAS a kill all and before the first mission was over the Brute (our lone aggro controller) quit because he wanted a speed TF. -
See I disagree with that .. I have done both Kill All and Speed Runs since the incarnate system started and sure speeding you can get to the end of a TF faster for the reward BUT.. if you are a hero there are only 4 TFs a day you can do to get the bonus component (ITF, LGTF, KTF and STF) now Rogues and Vigilantes can add in the LRSF and Barracuda TF while Villains get the same 4 SF option (LRSF, BSF, ITF and LGTF). After that spee runs are rediculous because you can't get another component for 20 hours. Kill alls still give you that component and HOW MANY added shards did you get as opposed to racing through or past everything?
Best part was the other day on a LGTF the team was trying SOOOOO hard to stealth to the end and free Penny so they could LET HER DIE? Well no one had good enough stealth to get past the Rikti Drones alive and kept having to start over. I couldn't help thinking.. If we had just fought our way to the end we'd be there by now! And the really STUPID part was they actually let Penny die.. We had any number of players with ATT from Vet rewards that could have tped everyone, including Penny, back to the entrance. Then we could have defeated the Clockwork King (for a pile of INF) and gotten the end bonus.
My biggest problem with speed runs is it almost always seems to be some STONE TANKER in charge that just walks past mobs without taking much damage and can't understand why most of the team is face down in some cave because they CANT do that. Sure at level 50 all it takes is a couple mobs and your back out of debt but frankly i like to PARTICIPATE in a TF not lay on the ground watching some TANK have fun.
Then there are all the other things you give up rushing... Purple drops you can SELL for XXX millions of INF or use o make you character stronger. Salvage, Recipes, INF and of course if your the 45-49 level on the team XP.. which of course that 50 (+1) level Stone Tank completely ignores since it's been years since he worried about it. I have yet to even mention the potential Prestige you give away since not everyone belongs to an SG or may not even be in SG mode at level 50.
All Speed Runners think about is.. the Merits or the Component .. i often wonder if any of them take into account all the other things they lose by rushing it -
all of the above Now add in the Faathim the Kind TF in the Shard. Lots of missions involving Nemesis and after I spent a few hours roaming the Shard to get the badge for them I couldn't help wondering why how much time I'd have saved if I'f just done that Task Force first!
-
Okay so when Avetea first announced the WST we got this...

Go kill enemies until one drops an SO.
Go to any store in the game.
Sell the SO to the store.
Did you get the full selling price of the SO?
It's been this way since Issue 0. Why would the new system be any different than the established ones?
Well lets see I can basically BUY a Grai' Mater for 150 Vanguard merits .. can I buy any other type of Incarnate component with say Reward Merits or AE Tickets? NO? Oh I see I CRAFT the Grai' Mater with the Vangaurd Merits.. so they are salvage not cash? Okay so how come I can sell, trade, or even give away IO salvage but cant do any of that with Vanguard Merits? Seems like two very seperate systems in the same game to me.
I get a contact in Talos but haven't done any missions for him yet. When I go there can I buy any type of inspiration available from him on that initial visit? NO? Gee if I go to the Rogue Isles I can and strangely I can do the same thing as a hero or a villain in the Coop zones... sounds like two slightly different systems in the same game.
We are not talking about TOs, DOs, SOs, or even IOs here we are talking about shards and components about the only thing the two have in common is they both DROP during missions. Maybe JUST once it would be really nice if they STOPPED screwing us on exchange rates .. Especially since these involve incarnate powers and the dedicated Soloistare complaining about how difficult it is for them to earn shards/components since they don't like to team. And supposedly NC Soft understands their plight and wants to help them.. Hey here's an idea to help.. Try not keeping 75% of the cost of a component they get doing the occasionaly TF they force themselves to run and decided to break down into shards so they can build one they need! -
Quote:Plus there are also all those beefy Spartans in their menacing leather battle-diapers.
Wait! No! But I LIKE the beefy Spartans in their Leather diapers.. They're cute!
Admittedly I keep waiting for one of them to do a REALLY bad Arnold Swatrzenegger Imitation. ( did I come anywhere near close to spelling that man's name right? lol) -
Okay first of all like Techbot says.. "Hey this is MY planet if anyone is going to devastate it and take over it's gonna be ME!"
Next are you honestly telling me in 50 levels of game play you have never gotten a single mission from a contact that had you battling in Paragon City? Never did a Mayhem mission? Okay so there you are robbing the bank and blowing stuff up but there ARE banks in the Rogue Isles as well. Didn't you do your cape mission? That takes you to Steel Canyon to battle Longbow, OH big suprise a mission against LONGBOW (lol), and steal a cape from a hero.. There are heroes running around in the Rogue Isles. Apex has Primal Earth forces, VANGUARD volunteers probably since we do start out in the RWZ, protecting Kings Row and Steel City where the Praetorians are attacking. Tin Mage follows up with us defending Nerva in the Rogue Isles before we switch to protecting the Vanguard base in the RWZ.. a COOP zone. Eventually we all wind up in Praetoria taking the battle to them.. I don't see the problem. Lord Recluse has authorized Arachnos personnel to join Vangaurd and assist in defending planet earth. Now mainly that is supposed to be from the Rikti but if Cole and his Praetors plan to invade and destroy us its just as much a threat. Obviously LR thinks so or why would there be mission in Praetoria involing Arachnos agents sent to help the Resistance? -
Quote:Everything goes in cycles. Space Sci-fi enjoyed a renaissance, now it's on the decline again until the next upswing.
Space sci-fi is dead in the same way computer gaming is.
Yeah I agree with Rush Bolt. Keep in mind the amount of time between Star Trek the original and Star Trek Next Generation (The original was cancelled in 1969 and STNG started in 1987 .. 18 years between shows). It actually had a pretty good run once STNG started with at least one variation on the Star Trek theme being on television until Enterprise was cancelled after the 2005 season. During that same time frame you had other Sci Fi hits emerge like Babylon Five and Stargate and I LOVED Farscape and hated to see it discontinued NOT because it wasn't doing well ratings wise but the SciFi channel simply didn't want to continue to spend that much money to produce it
You are dealing with Television producers who automatically see one new show with a slightly original idea do well and within two seasons there are 10 clones of it..
Case in point.. CSI.. begat CSI Miama and CSI NY along with NCIS. Over the years we have had periods where everything was crime dramas, everything was lawyer shows, Hospital shows, etc, etc. Even the whole rash of reality shows started with the very first season of Survivor.. so if you are like me and can't stand things like American Idol.. blame Richard Hatch LOL
At some point some one will come out with another Sci Fi series that becomes popular and by the time it hits its second season there will be three or four more on other channels. -
Quote:I think the idea is to be able to break down the Component rewards from TFs into regular shards so we can change them into something else that we needed. If the breakdown was an even trade for what it takes to make them, there would be no point for each of the TFs having a different reward at the end. They would have just given us a number of regular shards instead.
Hero 1 DNA Sample Breakdown
Breaks down a common Alpha Incarnate Component into an Incarnate Shard.
They are not supposed to be equal. There is a price for everything.
If you crafted a bunch of Components that you didn't need, you made a bad decision.
If you got the Hero 1 DNA Sample from running LGTF, then you didn't pay 4 Shards for it anyway.
Getting 1 Shard that you can use for anything is still better than having a Component that you don't have any use for.
I think the point the OP is making is .. Regardless of where the component came from.. NC SOFT expects me to use 4 shards to BUILD a Hero One DNA sample if I need one. NC SOFT expects me to spend 150 Vanguard Merits to build a Grai' Matter. BUT if I have a Hero One Dna and break it down I get ONE shard. Basically that's like saying they charge us 75% of the face value of a component if we wish to turn it into something else. Sort of a REALLY bad service fee there don't you think?
Let's say I spend 90 minutes doing an ITF and at the end, in addition to the shards I earned, I got an Ancient Nictus Fragment. Okay I don't need it for anything so I go to convert it and I get one shard for 90 minutes of my time. It's almost as bad a trade off as the exchange rate for turning INF into prestige.. "Give us 1 Million INF and we will give your SG 2000 prestige." Okay so it's not quite THAT bad ( INF to Pretige rate = 0.2%). Still getting 25% of the face value is pretty lousy and the amount you get for breaking down an uncommon is worse.. Supposedly you get 2 shards for one of those and it takes 12 shards to build one.. That's 1/6 or 16.7%.
Now I forget the payoff if you break down a Notice of the well but since the word from I-20 is to build a NOTW you need:
40 shards
100 Million in INF
5 Uncommon components which would require 60 more shards to build)
I Seriously doubt they are giving anything like that although to be honest unless they are useless for crafting anything else but the very rare for your Alpha slot why in heaven's name anyone would break one down is beyond me.
Personally I'd be happy if they even went with just a 50-50 split. I break down a common component I get 2 shards and if I break down an uncommon I get 6.
Keep in mind how many shards people need if they want to try and craft their way to a very rare.. that requires 4 Notices of the Well, not to even mention all the other components required. So based on the figures above they need 400 shards and 400 Million in INF.. JUST to make the 4 NOTWs.. then when they convert 2 of those into a Favor of the well add another 32 shards.... 432 shards + 400 Million. But you think it's perfectly okay to only get ONE shard for a common Component?
Fortunately I do the WTS every week cause if anyone thought I was planning to part with almost half a billion in INF and grind for over 400 shards to get my Notices and my Favor they'd be sadly mistaken. -
Quote:I saw someone saying this on a LGTF last night as well so I'm going to ask, why spam immobilizes? AFAIK you need to Hold them to drop the shield, they are already immobilized. The only reason I know of to spam immobilizes is if you're got them slotted iwth the change to hold proc.
The Holds/immobs have nothing to do with attempting to actually "HOLD" a Mitos.. they float in the green jello and never move at all. The Holds help to defeat their regen which allows you to actually defeat them. Immobs work as well and can help if you have only limited holds on a team. I am not saying it's impposible to defeat without and as I mention I did it a while back with a team but it takes a long time and you can expect numerous deaths while you grind through one Green Mitos after another.
Just a side note on team composition and what I mentioned previously here. I did a LGTF on tuesday and the first thing we lost was a Troller to a nasty DC they never came back. Next during mission one the Brute, our only real aggro control character, quit because he was upset we were actually taking our time and collecting shards instead of Speed running to the end. Finally we lost a third to a RL emergency. With no brute or tank and very limited holds availavle we managed to complete the TF in just under 2 hours.. we did fail mission three but we were down to 5 by the time we hit Hamidon in mission 4 and it took a LONG time. Like I said there is no 100% mandatory team build required. Things like a good Tank, a really good troller with holds, ect all help but if you have good players just about any combination can be effective. -
Quote:But it is soooo much fun to pull Hro'Dtohz to Honoree's spawn point and have someone to spike generators. Incoming ambushes from destroyed generators and defeated Hro'Dtohz make this fight totally epic.
Well it can be fun when you have a team that can handle that but I have seen team wipes from someone deciding to attack a single generator while we were battling Hro" DTohz. As I lay there face down with a Rikti Cheif Soldier standing on my head I couldn't help but wonder "OKay and exactly why were you off attacking a generator WHILE we were fighting the AV?"
I've done the opposite as well.. One favorite battle in particular involved taking down the Phallanx controller, Romulus and Requeim all at the same time in mission 3 of the ITF. At one point I didn't even realize we were doing it and when it was over I was amazed! Of course the next mission against Romulus and the healing Nictus went very smoothly as well.. and we took him on the step with the customary ambushes.I have done both Honoree and Hro'Dtohz at once but don't recall ever doing both of them and dealing with the ambushes at once.. Can I assemble the ALL VEAT team I had when we took down Romulus and Requeim? If so I am more than willing to give it a try.. that team had so much defense nothing could stop us!
-
I agree .. My Crab Spider has actually become my main and my badger.. at this point the only TF or Trial she has not completed on either side is Doc Q. A little while ago, back a few weeks, I joined an all VEAT Imperious TF and all that defense made us unstoppable... and this was before anyone had access to the upper teirs of their alpha slot. We purposely spawned the Nictus Ambush in mission one so we could defeat it. We cleared mission two including every ambush and worked our way up through LAG valley taking out everything in our path before taking out the Phallax controller along with Romulus and Requeim (all at the same time). In the final mission we quickly fought our way to Romulus and cleared everything around his plaza then simply swarmed in on him and the Nictus. We handled the ambushed and the AV easily and finished the entire TF in about one hour without even trying to rush.
I have never had a problem getting an invite to team with her and most people LOVE the idea of having one or two on any team for the added defense bonuses. While they haven't reached 50 yet I also have a Huntswoman and a Widow I am working on and that''s one thing I truly love about VEATS... So many choices to work from in designing yours.
I think a lot more thought went into the design for them than the Hero Epics.. To date I have one 50 level Warshade, never took a Peacebringer past level 20 before deleting and have no plans to ever build another. -
Quote:Five missions:
Mission 1: In this mission you run to the end of the mission, rescue Penny and fight your way out through clockwork. I believe that if Penny gets killed the mission fails so speed runs will often do that to save time.
Mission 2: In this mission you fight through the sewers and meet the 4 riders (Rikti Heavy Assault Suits with special powers). You fight them four times, first against one rider, then 2, then 3 and finally all four. I think that the optimal killing order is: Famine, Pestilence, War, Death although a good team can generally just zerg them.
Mission 3: This is the longest mission and the most popular to fail. You have to fight through the building and caverns to rescue 2 members of omega team, 6 psychics and kill Dra'Gon. Getting the first member of Omega team killed will fail the mission and as such is a popular strategy.
Mission 4: Hami Time! General strategy is to clear the Rikti and Towers first then do Hamidon as in a raid. Basid rules: Yellow Mitos are vulnerable to melee attacks. Blue Mitos are vulnerable to Single Target Ranged attacks, Green Mitos need to be held (a total of mag 10 holds are required) it is technically possible to do ti without holding them but the DPS required makes it generally infeasible on a PUG. Some people will use EoEs to make this easier but on non-masters runs people generally opt to zerg it.
Mission 5: Either TP or fight to the last room. The big bad guy (I forget his name) and Honoree are near the portal surrounded by Rikti. Most team opt to pull them back a bit to avoid fighting them together but a tough team can just zerg them. Afterward destroy the four generators. Watch out for respawning Rikti.
Team Composition: As with most high level content regen debuffs are always very nice to have along for the AVs since it decreases the total damage required form your team. Additionally having sufficient holds for the green mitos vastly increases your chance of getting past them. Controllers/Dominators are obviously the best source of these since almost all have one and they get much better base stats but a decent number of Blasters, Defenders, Corruptors and Masterminds will have one although it's a crapshoot as to how well it's slotted. Melee toons have some access to them in Epic pools but in my experience very rarely take them.
Okay lets add to this a bit
Mission one.. If you are also looking to get a few shards and some Vanguard Merits then fight your way to Penny. Be aware that once freed the cutscene begins and afterwards in addition to any Rikti still alive Clockwork start arriving to ambush. One easy method around that is to have someone on the team wirh teleport or ATT get back to the mission entrance and teleport the whole team, including Penny, to the door. After that go down the stairs, get some INF and potential salvage drop by beating the Clockwork King.. you know the AV that will award a ton of INF.
Mission Two .. always, always attack Famine first at each of the areas he spawns. I forget why exactly something about him being the one that hampers Regen or whatever? But just follow everyone's lead and take him down first.
Mission three .. this is then one MOST teams will TRY to fail simply because dealing with Glacia and Infernia can be a major pain. They have Lengthy speeches they run through before they will follow anyone and they also spawn ambushes. Add trying to find the 6 psychics held hostage and most teams will just lead the sisters into a huge Rikti mob and wait for Mission Failed.
Mission four.. Hami is the toughest mission in this TF. If your team leader doesn't recruit at least one Controller with some good holds or a few other ATs with a hold/immob or two you are in for a very LONG battle that you may never win. I did manage to complete this mission with one team a while back that had none of this... We used every temp hold/immob we could muster to aid us. By the way.. A good tank can taunt the Rikti into the jello and let Hami and his Mitos kill them off IF you don't feel like fighting them for INF, Vanguard Merits and/or XP if you have people on the team that are NOT 50 yet. Not sure if it actually helps or not but most teams these days leave the Pylons alone until after all the Mitos are defeated supposedly it cuts down on the attack damage Hami can do while your battling Mitos. The order for attack on the Mitos is Yellow (Melee), Blue (Ranged) and then Green (Holds/Immobs and pour on the damage after the regen drops). expect a few deaths during the Mitos portion and its best to select one player as the targeting source and have evereyone else target through him/her. That way everyone is concentrating their fire on the same Mitos.
Mission five.. you can battle your way to the end of simply stealth/TP to where the AVs are. A word of advice do not let the team start attacking and taking out generators until both AVs have been defeated. Once you start attacking generators ambushes spawn and the last thing you need while trying to take out an AV is a huge ambush with several bosses pouring in on top of you. Honroee won't spawn until Hro' Dtohz is about half dead and he sits happily waiting to be taunted while you finish off the Rikti General.
Team composition? I have done this countless times since the Incarnate system started and while some teams work better than others there is no set ONE team make up that works. Debuffs are a big help so maybe look for a Rad or someone with DM. As I mentions HOLDS are a huge help in mission four.. a good Plant Controller or Earth or whatever can be a big help there. You have AVs in Mission one (Clockwork King), Three (Dra'Gon) and in the final mission ( Hro'Dtohz and Honoree) The Riders in Mission two and believe it of not the Weakened Hamidon in mission four are only Elite Bosses but a good Tank or Brute to hold aggro is almost a must. Other than that have fun with whatever is available.. Grab a blaster or two for some potential added holds/immobs, a VEAT or two increases everyone's defense, Scrappers can cut lose and have a blast slicing into mobs of Rikti.. and don't forget you need SOME Melee in Mission four to take down the Yellow Mitos.
Don't be in a huge rush to SPEED this thing. You can grab a lot of Vanguard Merits from it ( Oh and gee we seem to be having Mothership raids almost nightly now so why rush through a TF that is loaded with RIKTI and then run off to fight them in a lag soaked atmosphere on the Mothership?) I did a kill all LGFT on a good team and in 1 hour and 42 minutes we completed after clearing every single map (okay we did NOT clear the Hamidon map since there are Rikti and DE on the cliffs above and we went straight to the pylons). You can cut some time by failing mission three if you like and even more by teleporting to the end in Mission five. I have done this and seen a LGTF finish in slightly more than 1 hour.
This TF seems to be about the second best for shard drops so unless you have all you need.. and do we really have any clue exactly how many we will eventually need as new power slots open up? If your working on your very rare you need two Notice of the well and 40 shards just to craft the favor of the well you need. Grab all you can get.. keep in mind the lousy exchange rate for breaking down components.... It takes four shards to BUILD a Hero One DNA but break one down and NC Soft awards you 1 shard. Nothing like charging 75% of the value of an item to convert it!
