I'm not even sure if Stealth helps much. Each Containment Chamber and Weapons Cache is surrounded by troops. I suppose if you had recall friends you could scout out glowies and then TP in help but that takes more time. This is one portion of the trial where simple SPEED and trying to stay together are your best friend. When the team gets split up that is when players start dying.. 6 people in one spot divides up the attacks being flung at you. if you rush down a corridor solo.. everything there focuses its attack on YOU.
Take heart.. I hit 50(+3) Yesterday and suddenly my defenses imrpoved to where I can run past just about anything and survive. -
Quote:Wait now, I thought that's what you were telling us that more people need to step up and do. (?)
LOL Come on Tony you know what I am talking about. There is a fine line between giving good direction and just plain annoying/ticking off people. Of course on something like the Lambda or BAF you need to ensure people do things in the right order. But when a leader is just constantly in chat telling you how to do everything including how to tie your shoelaces they have crossed over from being effective to being an overbearing jerk.
On the STF I mentioned the leader even asked if anyone had never done this TF before and the answers ranged from "Dozens of times" to a simple "Yep". While I realize not everyone bothers with this a simple check of an individual's badges can also show that team members have been on at least ONE successful TF before since they obviously HAVE it's badge and if they have a Master of badge they did it without anyone dying or using temp powers.
When I am on a team I want directions like "Give all the Acid to XXX.. she will take out the portals" Or we will fight to the crossroad and make the left.. then fight our way to Romulus" What I don't need are a constant rain of comments stating the obvious JUST to prove to WHOEVER(?) that I know how to run this TF and I am in charge.. especially when it involves me using my own powers. I have had leaders send tells stating .. "Use Howling Twilight on Romulus and Darkest Night. We need to debuff him" Well DUH.. I have been playing this MM all the way to 50 level solo and on teams I think I KNOW what each of MY powers do and OH by the way I used HT a bit ago.. Mind if I wait for it to recharge before I use it again?Oh and if YOU don't mind I am also using Fearsome stare since I slotted it with nothing but To Hit Debuffs and the reason I am healing like mad has nothing to do with keeping everyone at 100% health.. My Heal also has several To Hit Debuffs slotted... would you like me to throw the kitchen sink at him to while I am at it? LOL
You know the type I mean. Just absolutely certain they know everything about everything and feel the need to instruct us lesser peons to ensure we live up to his or her high standards. Funny.. I have played two or more characters from every Hero At there is, except PBs, and I don't feel like an expert on the ins and out of every powerset. Villain side I have mainly played MMs, Brutes, and VEATS so the absolute LAST thing i would ever think of doing is trying to tell a Corruptor how they should play their character. People like that get ONE STAR from me and a couple have even wound up on my ignore list. -
We have all seen it recently... The WST is announced and by Tuesday evening 40 players are standing around the contact and everyone is waiting for someone to actually start a team. Same thing is going on periodically in places like Pocket D and the RWZ with the new trials.
Okay some people have legitimate reasons for not wanting the mantle of leadership thrust upon them. Things like:
1. I have never done this trial before and have no idea what to do or what we need to make a good team.
2. I've run ten TFs the past day and a half and would like to just relax and let someone else do the dirty work
I have taken my turn as a leader but on certain things I shy away from it because I am on a laptop with a wireless internet connection and at times I crash. I feel bad when suddenly someone else has leadership THRUST upon them because I went poof. This also can result in drastic changes that affect the team. Last night I did decide to run an ITF and COH crashed everyone... when we all got back on line one of the other team members had returned first and was now "THE LEADER". His settings were +4X8 and we suddenly found ourselves taking forever to take down one ambush in the second mission.. we had steam rolled through mission one and were doing the same in two prior to the crash. Before long we'd lost like 4 members and the TF folded. I will still lead at times but try not to unless just NO one at all is taking charge
So lets look at the horrible amount of work a leader has to do and the mind shattering decisions to be made. Maybe I can convince a couple of you that it isn't THAT bad.
1. Build a team .. depending on the time of day and other events going on this can be a bit of a task but when there are 30 people standing around the contact all typing in broadcast "Looking for [insert name of TF or Trial here]. you can build a team in minutes and probably even pick and chose what to invite. When there are fewer people around a few well placed ads on the right globals will normally get you a series of tells asking to join.
2. Decide what you are going to do. .. SPEED RUN? KILL ALL? or something in between? two approaches to this that work.. 1) Hey its MY team so we do what I want OR 2) just ask the team what does everyone want to do. In most cases more than half don't care one way or the other and the others will usually either say I need SHARDS/XP I'd like a kill all or I only have a little time on line I'd like a Speed run. Ultimately it is your decision .. One thing I'd suggest to avoid people quitting on you is MAKE the decision for yourself in advance and advertise what YOU want to do.
Okay the hard part is done now the biggest decision you need to make varies depending on what you are doing:
3a. Lambda Trial which team is going after the acid and which goes after the grenades. Part two of that is does every keep what get or pass it along to one person. Most of the rest of this trial is a simple matter of picking a direction to run in while defeating everything that moves.
3b. BAF trial who is going to which starting point during the escapee phase. Aside from that the rest is pretty much just KILL anything in your way. About the only horrid decision to make is.. who is going to go taunt the AV to the tennis courts. OUT OF CONTEXT.. what is a tennis coourt doing in the middle of a prison?
3c. ITF are we climbing the hill and killing the two spawns or are we headed straight up to rescue the Sybil in mission one? In mission three do we want to fight through lag valley for the added XP/SHARD drops or pull the generals and then head to the computer. In mission four are we fighting our way to Romulus or headed straight there and then attacking the towers?
OKAY I could go one forever and break down every single TF here but I think you see you point. The biggest decision a leader needs to make is to actually form a team. The majority of players KNOW what needs to be done and with very little direction will go about doing it. Your hardest job after building the team is getting back to the contact after mission one to get mission TWO. After that you normally have their phone number and can contact them as fast as you exit for the next assignment.
Now there are times when jumping in and leading is NOT a good idea. I got to run part of one BAF trial on test during a sneak peak so until I had a few under my belt no way I wanted to do anything but follow. The Lambda was even worse.. I never saw that until it was live .. but last night I was one of the two team leaders on one and was prompting throughout because I had two players on my team that had never done one before....
OH that does bring up one point. Be prepared to explain stuff so don't lead if you don't know what needs to be done. That Lambda I did last night went well but the leader, like many, was already assuming that everyone on the team had done the trial countless times and aside from deciding who took what elevator in part two didn't brief at all. I was in team chat making sure my new players didn't rush to the vators and start the count down, used or handed me their pacification grenades, didn't attack Maurader until the other team closed the portals, etc.
There is a reverse side of that. DON'T become a micro manager! I one starred a team leader a few weeks ago that put together an STF. Everyone on that team had done the task force multiple times but this guy felt the need to constantly bark out orders and explain in detail exactly what we needed to do next. By the end we were all so tired of him .. It is the only TF I can recall of recently where not a single player thanked the leader for the invite and the team. We all just took our prizes and quit. in other word ..team leader does not mean I CAN BE A TOTAL JERK!
LOOK no one is going to blame you if the TF fails.. and if they do who cares? if you put together a PUG chances are you may not see those people again for week, months, or ever again. As long as you are fair and make it a fun experience you have accomplished most of what a leader needs to do.Now get out there and take charge LOL
-
well the first problem with that is the same one I discovered with Justine Augustine's TF. Way too many hunts and in zones where a 50 level isn't going to even earn influence much less get shard drops. The second is the fact that aside from players just starting a new character down the incarnate path the mad rush to do the weekly WST is slowing while the incarnate rush from Trial to Trial working on their new powers. I have ONE character that still needs a few notices to make tier four and all the rest are now working on the new trials and trying to open the new powers.
Not saying NO ONE is out there doing the WST this week but on Virtue the call for an ITF has been silneced by the call for a BAF or LAMBDA. It's going to take more than upping the level so 50's can be 50 to get people working for Doc Q. Now I did it myself on my badger a while back,, and I am talking a month ago or so not a few years LOL With ouro portals and Mission teleporters the time has reduced significantly. The team I was on finished in a little over 4 hours.. still a HUGE span of time compared to many newer TFS. Upping the level wont help... they need to sit down and do what they did with Positron.. Rewrite the thing and cut the missions and the time down! until then the only people that will spend the time on one are crazy badgers.. like ME -
Joined this afternoon.. I finished one BAF trial to discover I was 1% away from opening LORE.. I'd been hoarding threads and actually building enhancers .. I went back in and one the 1st mob I faces I had LORE... when I came out I also had everything I needed to slot it with a tier 3 and complete my journey to the +3 club
Oh yes now I truly am a Goddess! hehehe

Quote:Yellow Dawn?!? You whippersnappers don't know a THING about Yellow Dawn!
THIS was a Yellow Dawn, sonny!
Now you kids get off my lawn!
Okay first off what did you say or do to Hami to tick him off that bad? THAT IS A LOT OF YELLOW MITOS and they seem to have left the jello mold.
Now as Zombie mentions this is NEW content and the majority of the player base did not get a change to try it out on test. It's been 3 days and already people are getting the hang of both trials.. I did 3 BAFs and a LAMBDA last night and all 4 were successful. Sure we still had a few trips to the hospital .. I personally finally had a BAF run where i didn't visit HOSP once and I think I was happier over than than anything else. "HEY I DIDN'T DIE! COOL!!!!"
Given enough time for everyone to get familiar with what to do and when to do it along with the eventual situation where all of us have 2 level shifts and those 54 levels are conning yellow not purple and we'll see people having contests to see how small can our league be and still kick butt.. It wouldn't suprise me a but for some purples out build to eventually solo one or both... I doubt it but then again I didn't think anyone would ever solo the ITF and now I swear I think I probably could.
"THAS RIGHT... I IS BADDD!"hehehe

Quote:There's a difficulty slider isn't there? When you can blow through +4x8 with no risk of dying, then complain.
Agreed! I have been on a few 45-50 level TFs where the leader bumped up the difficulty since we were all level 50(+1). Of course unless your the leader you can't FORCE anyone to increase that just to make you happy so I have also been on a lot where Elite Bosses showed up as YELLOW instead of PURPLE to me as well. Hey the INF was still good so what's the problem with feeling a little GOD like for a change?
Now when I get so powerful I join an APEX TF and step inside mission two and one shot Battle Maiden while standing in a purple patch of death then I am overpowered. LOL -
Your Mother was a hamister AND you smell of Elderberries! LOL Gratz on that.. I have managed the one for NOT turning off any guns and we came SOOO close last night to the one for not allowing and prisoners to escape. We ended with 2 0r 3 but the first didn't get through until less than 1 minute left
These things come with time .. Heck I still don't have Dodger on my Badger yet. Oddly enough I do have it on two of my other incarnates.
and now, THANKS to Donner and Bass, I have to go do a Monty Python search cause I can't recall of hand what your father and sister were. -
I haven't gotten to the 2 new TFs, errr 1 TF and 1 SF to be politically correct lol, but I have done a number of each trial. Day one was a little shakey while people were feeling things out but I was lucky enough to hook up with a few people that had done them on Test and managed to complete a Lambda on day one.. the BAF was bugged and every time I tried to join one I dc'd but thankfully the patch seems to have corrected that and I have completed both now numerous times. So far I have Judgement, Interface and Destiny opened up and Destiny is at teir 3 for the added level shift. I need another 27% to open Lore and I had enough threads, merits and rewards so when I do open it I will probably be slotting a tier 3 immediately for that 2nd level shift. I enjoy both of the trials but do think the BAF is a little more fun.. skipping all those mobs to grab acid and pacifier grenades in the Lambda Section Trial feels a lot like SPEED Running a TF and I have had a few trips to the hospital thanks to that.
I should have all my new powers open today so over the weekend I am planning a TRIAL break and check out the new TFS. -
Quote:The only person forcing you to grind anything is yourself because of your obsession to have stuff as soon as possible. Take a break and something else. You don't win a prize for getting stuff first.
Agreed! Forbin is right if the "GRIND" is getting to you go do something else. Or in the mad rush to gain new powers have you forgetten that this issue also gave us a new 20-40 level task Force Blue side and a similar 20-40 level Strike Force Red side. The WST is the Imeprious Task Force which offers up the usual Notice, which can be converted to shards and shards to threads, and also give double Reward Merits.
Personally I don't see the trials as a grind but as a new challange and a new set of goals to reach. But even I took time out to run the ITF mainly because I wanted to see how my new powers would work on something other than IDF warworks.
I understand your concern.. I have 12 characters I am doing the incarnate stuff with and so far I have worked on one of them and have three slots open and only one at tier three for the added level shift. But I didn't get those 12 characters to tier 4 overnight and I did other things besides just running the same TFs over and over along the way. Also keep in mind that they have already said there would be more Trials to do in the future this is just the beginning. If it starts to feel like a grind .. go do something else for a while! They don't hand out badges for being the first to get all the new stuff done. -
I think what Nalrok is saying is take what the trial gives you and don't stress out if you can't complete the very first try. There are team leaders out there that had the advantage of running numerous BAFs and Lambda's on test and have the strategy down cold... baring bugs these people are probably enjoying a very high rate of success. Then there are those of us that were not in closed BETA or maybe only got one look at the trials during the sneak peak. We are still learning all the ins and outs of the trial and at times this results in a "TRIAL FAILED".
Okay fine but failed or completed there is a good chance you picked up a few Astral merits, a good number of threads and quite a bit of Incarnate XP toward unlocking your powers. I personally joined a few Lambda trials using the turnstile and wound up on a 7-9 man league. We quickly realized we didnt have enough people to complete all the objectives and so we simply settled for what we could accomplish. One one that meant clearing the IDT from around the complex and clearing out the innner courtyard and gun emplacements. We tried to tackle the Security team but that EB was just to stubborn to die so we agreed to cal it quits.. I left with about 10 new threads and 20% closer to opening my Interface. Did we WIN? no but was it worth the effort? YES.
I did another turnstile Lambda where we actually got past the securuty but realized we'd be too few to tackle both the acid and grenades inside. We combined into one team and went for the acid.. Our thoughts being if we sealed off the portals Maurader couldn't get reinforcements and we could get a few grenades outside later. We did manage to get most of the acid and then picked up enough outside to seal all the portals. So NO Atral Merits but we did get to a point where we were fighting Maurader. Unfortunately we didn;t have enough players or enough grenades to succeed but again I left with my Interface now open, enough threads to actually slot it, and a start on opening ip Destiny. So.. again did we win? NO Was everyone satisfied with what they got out of it? YES
What Nalrok means is that for now winning is basically hit or miss but eventually we will all get the strategy down pat and as out powers increase and we earn that 2nd and then 3rd level shift suddenly Maurader, Seige and NightStar are going to seem pretty tame. What proof do i have? Anyone remember how much peope complained about the ITF when it first started? We ahd some of the most bizarre strategies imaginable to try and seperate him from those Nictus so we could beat him.. NOW half the time the team just charges up the steps and pounds hum to dust along with the ambushes or .. if they are a but more squishy.. the pull him into the grass to avoid the ambushes and then do the exact same thing. I took my 50 (+1) Crab Spider and joined an all VEAT ITF a while back. We killed everything in sight and took Romulus on the steps. 8 VEATS combining all that defense and + to Hit were too much for that TF. On a KILL ALL we managed to complete the task force in 50 minutes.
Now give in a few weeks, a month at most, and see just how tough the BAF seems with a team of all 50 (+3)s.Til then relax and enjoy whatever you get.. that is ALL the man is saying LOL

Quote:My expectation is that there will be a new tier of salvage and components like Shards or Threads that will be used to craft the next wave of Incarnate powers. Whether these will be introduced with the next wave of trials depends on whether those trials are related to the new powers or the ones we have now.
The reason I say there will be a new salvage for the new powers is the same reason we got threads instead of just using Shards again - the Devs will not want everyone to be able to stockpile enough components to just have everything on day one of the new powers going live. They will want you to do the content.
I think you are sort of missing the point of the OP Quas but sadly are probably right about the mindset of the Devs. Its getting a little complex out there and they have limited our options. When all this started we at least had 4 TFs that a hero could run that gave out shards and components and 4 SFs that a villain could do to earn the same. Rogues and Vigilantes had 6. We also had the COP which gave out another type of component. We added the Tin Mage and Apex which dropped SHARDS but no component reward so we had a pretty decent variety. When the Notices started we got even MORE opportunities since they came from the WST which could be just about any TF or SF regardless of skill level.. of course those didn't drop shards, UNTIL Issue 20, but at least it was something else we needed to do to slot our powers and gave us even more diversity.
NOW we have basically two options .. BAF or LAMBDA until we earn enough XP to open all four of the new powers and then only the BAF, Lambda, Tin mage and Apex drop Threads. We went from 4-6 options down to 2-4. Now of course if we want to spend 2.5 million in INF a day we can convert 10 shards into 10 threads once every 20 hours so you could continue running .. well now just about ANY TF with a 50 level and get shard drops.
But it makes you wonder is the next step a NEW type of building block (like the shards and threads) and we will be offered the same sort of deal 10 Threads for 10 ??? at a cost of ?? 2.5 Million again or MORE? So we have players running an ITF and then having to convert their shards into threads .. paying 2.5 million for that. And then converting again from Threads to WHATEVER for an additional fee. It sounds like its getting very VERY confusing and the last thing any company wants to do is confuse and annoy its client base. If they get frustrated and annoyed ..thats when they QUIT in droves.
I think they be wise to stay with Threads for the next power sets.. If they want to come up with some new components for the new powers fines! The trials only offer up one random component anyway so i doubt anyone would really care. But they need to increase what we can do to earn threads NOT come out with another whole new system we need to adapt to. -
I can't confirm it because I have been busy running the two trial to open my new powers but I seem to recall reading someplace that when 20 went live the Tin Mage and Apex TF would start to drop threads. The others are pre-existing Task Forces from before the Incarnate system and I think they plan to leave them alone for anyone still working towards tiers on their Alpha slot.
Anyone else remember seeing anything about TM and Apex dropping threads? -
Okay I tried to join a Turnstile BAF tonight and after entering the Q and getting to where all but one of the PUG team members had agreed to join we were placed back into the Queue with this message in a pop up...
Event failed to start. Your group has been placed back into the queue.
I lost track but I believe it happened 4 or 5 times in a row before I was actually able to join a team and enter the trial. NOW for the good news.. the 12 man team I was on actually completed the Trial. I was doing Lambda Trials earlier in the RWZ and several times leagues returned from the BAF with the same complaints listed here.. Everything going fine, meeting all objectives and then suddenly for no reason just kicked out of the trial with that "You have quit your team" message. And these were teams that formed up first and then entered the Q as a pre-existing league.. no turnstile involved that I was aware of. Honestly I did a number of Lambda Trials today, both preformed teams and turnstile, and never had this problem with any of them.
Just figured I'd add my tiny but to assist Z and the Davs. Wondering if it could have anything to do with the load on the server? Several of the BAFs I mentioned had this problem in the evening when Virtue was showing three red balls when you logged in.. In short a LOT of people on line and a LOT in the 3 RWZs that were forming both BAF and Lambdas.
Good luck Boys.. Get it solved a LOT of people are counting in you -
Quote:And if you still have to do them ten times, that's too much repetition for me. I'll be giving these a try this weekend, but unless I love them, I can't see myself doing ten (or even eight) runs of the same thing in any reasonable time frame without getting astoundingly bored. The list of things I've done ten times within the past two years is probably the LGTF and the ITF. And I don't tend to love anything that can be vaguely described as raid content. I'm fine with difficulty, but a boredom tax isn't my thing.
Okay so you just admitted you have done the ITF multiple times and the LGTF.. I assume that's because you enjoy them. From that "I'll be giving these a TRY this weekend" comment I am also assuming you have yet to do either? So how do you know you won't enjoy them? The BAF is a problem child at the moment and keeps crashing but I have done a number of Lambdas and I like it. Now I understand what you mean by grind.. In one day I have managed to open and slot my Interface and my Destiny is at 50% so once they bring the game back on line I plan to open it as well. And I have not been on 10 trials but I have almost enough threads to slot my Interface with an uncommon and haven't even opened Destiny yet, Four different powers that all require 4 tiers will take a while and a lot of threads. But If I recall correctly they also said that the Tin Mage and Apex would be dropping threads now as well and if you get tired of those do anything else at ANY level now and shards drop. Once a day you can convert 10 shards into 10 threads for 2.5 million INF and a common component costs 20 threads. So you can convert 70 shards into 70 threads a week fora total cost of 17.5 million. That gives you enough to craft 3 common components or one uncommon (they cost 60 threads each).
As mentioned later issues will add more trials that will increase options and opportunities for threads.
As for the point? What is the point? No one says you HAVE to do the incarnate content at all. If you are perfectly happy leveling a character to 50 and then retiring it and starting another at level 1 you don't need to do thing with any of this new "STUFF". People begged for more stuff for their 50 levels to DO and the Devs delivered. Now we get some people that LOVE it and others complaining its to hard, to different, or to complicated. I have seen a horde of players in the RWZ running one trial after another since it went live yesterday so obviously someone is enjoying the new stuff. Give it time and actually TRY it before you form an opinion. -
Quote:/grabs popcorn
Well, this has been known for a while that this is what Issue 20 brings. Now, if many didn't want to believe, then they have the access to issue 20 currently to see for themselves.
/returns from snack bar with bucket of popcorn and sodas sits next to gemini and offers a drink
So has the flame war started yet? This should be fun to watch!
Now to the OP.. Seriously? So two new TRIALS that are designed to go no longer than 1 hour is GRINDY to you? But prior to this repeating the same TFs (STF, ITF, KTF, and LGTF.. LRSF and BSF if you are a villain or Rogue/Vigilante) wasn't? I pulled out my main yesterday and between converting shards to threads since she has close to 2 Billion in INF thanks to all those TFs she did managed to open and slot my Interface power and start working on Destiny. I did two successful Lambda Trials, one failed attempt, one that I Dc'd on and was over by the time I got back and another where we didn't have enough players to complete so we just quit after getting as far as we could safely. I earned enough threads that I already have what I need to slot Destiny as well. Now that's only Tier one of course but 1 DAY.. 1 new power and enough salvage to slot 2 powers? Doesn't feel like any more of a grind than anything else I have done recently.
I like the Lambda trial. It seems well thought out and is fun to do. You fight your way inside and then take out the security forces to gain access to the interior. Then scramble to complete your mission before the reinforcements, led by Maurader, arrive and finally battle the Praetor and his troops to complete your assignment. Its challenging, requires team work and while it has a one hour time limit can easily be completed in less than that amount of time.
Here's another tip for you.. While completing a trial, either of them, and accomplishing all the objective does add extra awards there is nothing stopping anyone from quitting early. The one trial I didn't complete was that way. We started with 9 players and quickly wound up with 7. We decided to go ahead and do what we could and managed to clear the outside of the compound and then wipe out the elite boss gun emplacements and the forces inside the walls. At that point we had a ton of trouble dealing with the EB Security team to get to phase 2 so we all just quit. We earned XP toward opening up out slots and threads just like the people on the successful ones do. The whole thing probably lasted like 10 minutes and I think I gained close to 20% of what I needed to open up Interface. So do just that part 5 time and you earned a new power without ever seeing Maurader! -
I'll add in my report. I just left a Lambda team that had the very same thing occur. We formed teams and then joined the league. Entered the map and before we even got into the courtyard we suddenly were all back in the RWZ and off the team. We were working our way around the outside taking out 60 IDF to unlock the facility at the time.. never even got inside the courtyard.
We were doing very well at the time too so it was pretty frustrating -
Quote:Oh, right, so I have to spend large amounts of influence to make my build 'suitable' for the trial and read up on how to do it? Yeah, Well done Paragon! They've always said you shouldn't need any 'type' of character to complete something, yet if we ended up with a team without many buffs and poor energy def or res then we'll stand a much higher chance of failure?
I don't remember reading where anyone said that. I have three successful Lambdas in and a few failed as well. On both my character has managed to spend time transporting to the hospital between dealing damage. granted I am talking my Crab Spider not a scrapper but I don't have a single set bonus on her. Every slot has a generic IO and yes her Alpha is also Tier 4. But I have not spend billions slotting purples and rares and she held her own as well as anyone on the teams.
I think what was being suggested is if you have set up your character to deal with one type of damage and are getting killed by another maybe you need to respec and switch some things so you are better equipped to survive. Now if you have the cash and want to spend it on purples fine .. Keep in mind no one is getting overly upset right now over dying.. We are, at best, 51 levels facing high powered 54 levels but as we continue to open up new incarnate powers we will go from 50(+1) on these trials to 50(+3)... Let's see how tough the IDF looks when then only have a one level advantage. -
Now children play nice! this issue, at least as far as I am concerned, was solved a while ago when Going Rogue went live. Now please don't ask ME to go find the quote but NC Soft referred to Influnce, Infamy, and the new Information (Praetorian version) as "IN-GAME CURRENCY".
I realize this is very hard for some die hard, slightly warped, Role Players to fathom and come to terms with mainly because Cryptic spent years denying what the majority of sane players knew all along. Instead they constantly fed us a line that Influence was a measure of your standing in the eyes of the citizens of Paragon while Infamy was the repuation you built by doing evil deeds throughout the Rogue Isles.
Two things changed.. Cryptic left and then Praetoria appeared along with the ability to be a Villain one day and a Rogue the next (Hero/Vigilante). Speculation leading up to this day was that once you crossed over you'd be broke (more or less) since the infamy you'd accumulated couldn't possible translate into Influence.. My heavens how can robbing the bank in Atlas Park as a villain possible translate into a feeling of trust and respect for your Rogue when he/she arrived in Talos? Of course we all know that the reality was as soon as we stepped through that "Magical" portal and left the Rogue Isles and arrived in Paragon City our Infamy was exchanged at a rate of 1 to 1 for .. INFLUENCE!
Look at this logically, as I have done for years, and try to see my point.
1. You go to a STORE and use your influnece to BUY enhancements for you character. Now relate that to the real world since even Comic Books have super heroes living in a fairly normal world ..hense the need for secret identities. When was the last time you walked into a store, picked out a suit and told the clerk.. "I don't have any cash but everyone in my neighborhood loves me so I'd like to use some of that "love" to pay for this." ????? You'd either wind up in jail (if you actually walked out without paying ..which they commanly refer to as shoplifting). Or in a mental institution being examined by a Therapist to determine if you were sane.
2. You head to Wentworths and sell off some salvage you picked up on your last few missions that you don't need. you use that INFLUENCE to BUY recipes and Salvage you do want or need. Hey there are players out there they spend hours investing in the market to increase their INF red and blue side. Now try calling a stock broker and see how many shares of NC Soft stock you can purchase because the folks down the block think you are a swell guy since you shoveled the snow off their sidewalks last winter.
3. Your buddy just leveled and want to buy some new enhancements so he can get stronger but he is low on influence after SPENDING so much on his old enhancements at Wentworths. You click on him and trade him ZILCH for 10 million in Influence so he can go shopping. Hmmm So influence is supposedly a reflection of how the community views me based on my actions... now explain to me again just exactly how I give that away to a friend? What did I do run door to door asking people to like me LESS and him more? LOL
The only problem we have is those serious role players that don't want to acknowledge the fact that they are basically being PAID to be a hero. Which is sort of funny when you think about the fact that for a REALLY long time we didn't have a Day Job program so I guess their heroes all lived in cardboard boxes on the street and begged for food from passers by? The way I look at it.. hero side we are all registred with the government and report to out first contact in Atlas Park for initial assignment. The Influence is the government financial support we receive. As we increase in Skill level we get more because we are facing more powerful villains and our expenses are greater. Its a lot better explanation than.. "People like me so they give me stuff" -
Well let's see I'd say yes it has along with Why would anyone roll a Tank now that they can make a Brute or Why roll a Controller or Defender when we can roll Corruptors or Dominators...
They all have their unique advantages and disadvantages so all are still quite viable in game. Ultimately the answer is "Because I want to be a Scrapper not a Brute!"
People have bad mouthed and dissed Dual Pistols almost since it came out but I took a DP/Ice Blaster to 50 level and she is now one of my "Honored Dozen". The 12 characters I am currently playing through incarnate content. Does my Fire/Fire Blaster do more damage? HE$$ YES but I love playing Icee .. the animations look great and I keep her constantly using chemical rounds so she debuffs anything she hits which helps everyone on the team.
The huge discussion when GR was still in Beta was why create a Tank when we can do more damage with a Brute? Well first of all my SD/SS tank does a good bit of damage and doesn't need to wait for Fury to build to gain it and second.... And I KNOW I'll get arguments here .. Tanks still do a better job of aggro control than a Brute. Now let's REALLY start an arguement (LOL) I did an ITF last week with no Tank or Brute and we rocked! Okay it was a little annoying since Romulus tends to run around like a sissy trying to avoid attacks with no one aggroing him but our team of Support characters and damage dealers (Blasters, Scrapper etc) did just fine. LET the flame war begin!
As mentioned in another post a scrapper is at 100% damage as soon as it is in range as opposed to a Brute which needs to build fury. Now let's put that to practical use.. you are on a Tin Mage TF and going for the Dodger badge. You have 30 seconds to defeat Director 11 before his invisible minons start laying mines. Either At will work fine but given the choice do you want to play a Scrapper that will be dishing out full damage instantly or a Brute that uses 5-10 of those 30 seconds building fury before reaching full damage output? [please keep in mind these are just off the top of my head figures I never sued a stop watch to determine how long it took a brute to hit full fury while battling Dircetor 11] Oh an PLEASE actually READ the underlined text before you feel the need to quote me and start tearing my post to shreds because you are a numbers freak and HAVE actually wasted time determining how long it take a brute to do so!Can we tell I have had this sort of thing happen before? hehe
Hey its a game with more than a dozen options for the type of AT you want to play and a ton of options on powers you can use after you make the first decision. WHY limit yourself to one just because it SEEMS like THE BEST. To illustrate my point.. week one of the new WST .. dozens of tanks, scrappers, blasters, and brutes all standing around in IP desperately searching for ANY support toons but more specifically actually broadcasting.. "We need anyone that has heals!" AWWWW did we suddenly discover that the majority of the TANK/BRUTE community can't stand toe to toe with Recluse and after all the badmouth a while back now we all desperately want a EMP Defender to heal and fort our tank so we can take down the towers? LOL
PLAY WHAT YOU LIKE.. NOT WHAT SOMEONE TELLS YOU IS BEST! you'll enjoy the game more -
Quote:The Events have been like that for the last couple of years. People run them very early, like the first week, then it becomes more difficult to get a team together for them. It doesn't help that the more recent ones, Banners and Lord Winter's Realm, take more people to complete successfully.
Task Forces other than the WST or ITF are harder to get teams for, for certain, but joining a large public Global channel for your server definitely helps. I was able to organize a Sara Moore Task Force on one of Infinity's public Globals in under 30 minutes on Saturday, for instance. Becoming part of the community on one of those channels can also benefit you by putting you in contact with players who share your interests. By doing this, I was able to get 5 of the 8 people for a successful Master of Barracuda Strike Force run quite late on a Wednesday night, getting one other from a conversation a couple of days prior about the badge, another from my Global list that probably didn't care much for the badge, and the final from a random team search. That's a Strike Force that most players don't even like to do as a WST, given the time sinks built into it, and certainly doesn't hold much greater appeal for the kind of methodical play that a Master of attempt generally requires.
To sum up: The people that like to do the things that you do are out there. You just have to use the tools at hand to get into contact with them.
Mesmer is totally right. Now I suppose it may vary a bit depending on which server you play on but there are still plenty of TFs and other things going on besides grinding (if you want to use that term) for shards. My Badger has done the Eden Trial, Abandoned Sewer Trial, Doc Q TF, gotten all the Spring Fling badges and all the Winter Event badges since the Incarnate system went into effect. Other characters have completed Posi 1 and 2, Synapse, Sister Psyche (when it wasn't the WST) and again found teams to work on the Winter and Spring events.
GLOBAL CHANNELS are your best friend... There may not be as many people just standing around a TF contact advertising in broadcast but on Virtue we have two task force channels (the first filled up so they had to start a second), two badge channels, at least 2 channels dedicated to LFT, along with several others that are all good sources to locate teams being built or to advertise if you are the team builder. I have seen team leaders advertsing for Citadel, Synapse, Posi, Katy Hannon, and even ToT teams over the 'April Fools" weekend. I did a number of Manticore TFs last week and there were as many players on them below 50 as their were 50s just after the Notice.. maybe even more.
The fact is the mad rush to do the WST is fading a bit.. all anyone needs to get a character to tier 4 is FOUR Notices of the Well. Now the attraction of double Merits is still making it popular but most of the dedicated badgers have even gotten the final badge for "assisting" with a WST after doing their first for the week so people are getting back into doing other things. Sure for the 50+ crowd that means the usual TFs and such but that also includes, on Virtue anyway, doing Hami Raids, Rikti Mothership Raids, Cathedral of Pain Trials, along with the usual STF, KTF, ITF, LGFT, LRSF, and BSF. People are still forming team and doing hero, villain, vigilante and rogue tip missions and I even see people advertising for radio/newspaper teams.
Keep in mind the game is 7 years old and has players that have been here for SEVEN years. They have a lot of 50 levels that were pretty much retired prior to the incarnate stuff so of course its very popular and seems like all that is going on at times but trust me its not. -
Quote:Um I agree with Dark and BrandX. So you base the merits of an issue solely on being able to waste more time in the costume editor? or on doing yet another respec on your character?Issue 20 offers only two new incarnate trials, new incarnate slots, 1.5 task forces below level 50 (Sorry Villains), a LFG queue, leagues and some Arachnos helos in the middle of Longbow bases (No I didn't make that up lol).
As of right now, no new costume pieces, no power proliferation, no power/epic pool/ custimization, etc.
I am curious to hear opinions as to why a NDA was required for any of this content, or is this secretive content being planned for issue 21? Thoughts?
We are getting two new 50+ Trials, two more Task Forces. opening up several new incarnate slots ..NOT one but as many as three or four from what I understand along with the new League sign up system. But it seems like from your post you are disappointed because we didn't get new opportunities to recolor powers or change their animations. To each his or her own but seriously I'd rather have new ways to PLAY the game than new ways to play Barbie with my character... and this from a woman who changed her look so often members of my own SG used to tease me about it.
Oh and as for THE MOST HYPED ISSUE.. were you around when everyone was desperately waiting for SUPER BASES to come on line? You want hype... for months when you logged on the first question anyone asked was "Did it go live yet?" The player base themselves created a sense of urgency like I really haven't seen since.
I'm sure all those things you are looking for are being developed and will wind up in game eventually.. Possible even I an issue 20.5 or as part of 21. Some will undoubtably be SOLD to us a Packs. -
When the quote goes.. "In the meantime, we are very excited about Issue 20 launching next week!" I don't see how that can be interpeted any other way... one moment please....
YAY YAY YAY YAY!!!!
Okay I feel better now. hehehe
I would be more than willing to participate in this event and will bring my 50 (+1) Crab Spider... Operative Tessa.
Marks calander.. screw the WST I have a Praetorian Insane Asylum to invade today! -
Quote:The first hunt (25 Crey) is unrestricted and you can hunt anywhere.. most players head back to Brickstown since the next 2 missions are always there. The second hunt (40 Crey) is always in Crey's Folly.
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Manticore_Task_Force
Confirmed here and by the fact that I have done 10 of them this week and hunt two specifially requires teams to go to CF but Hunt one just states "Defeat 25 Crey".
EDIT: Okay See now you are making me need to test this.. All it says on the Wiki is Manticore says "Brickstown is full of Crey these days". I have seen other conracts give hints like that on where to find the particular Villain group you need to hunt but you could technically hunt them anywhere. We always headed back to Brickstown from where ever because the next several missions .. Infiltrate the base (Hack the Computer) and Defeat the Security Chief (Manning) are always in Bricks so WHY hunt anywhere else? SIGH now I HAVE to go do another Manti and SEE if I can hunt Crey in other zones. The things I put myself through for you I swear LOL
/e SIGH Okay that took longer than I had anticipated but I ran a Manticore TF with my Tank today. Sure enough during the defeat 25 mission a Banner event occurred in Brickstown. A couple of us TRIED to defeat some in CF and they DO NOT COUNT. We had to wait like 14 minutes for the banners to go away, since no one was attacking them.. well we got bored and attacked one, before we could complete the mission and continue.
Two suggestions to solve this annoying little issue...
1. Remove the zone requirement on hunts like these in Numina, Manticore, Etc. Just let us defeat X number in any zone. Then if their are Zombies in CF, or Rikti invading Steel Canyon.. no one cares. They just go to another zone with the same villains and take them down there.
2. [This one takes longer] Revamp the TFs and remove most if not all of the hunts and replace with door missions or just remove and shorten the TF. No one particularly enjoys street hunts anyway and in many cases the villains you are attacking are 4-5 lowers lower than you and offer up no shards (very true in several TF in the Shadow Shard).
This may seem like a small issue but when Numina was the WST there were times when 3 or 4 teams were battling over the same mobs and some nasty name calling broke out. I personally had one Numina that was interrupted in Faultline by a Banner event and then again in Talos by a Rikti invasion.. This added nearly 40 -45 minutes to our time and was the ONLY Numina I did all week that took more than 2 hours. MOST were done in half that time! -
