Quote:How the hell are you people managing to outlevel these arcs? Do you kill every damn mob on the map?
I am trying to level up .. Of course I kill every mob on the map. LOL I want every drop of XP, every bit of potential salvage and every single recipes that ,MAY be attached to a mob in every mission.
And if you think that's silly I did an ITF once and we completed the TF taking down Rommi. About 3 or 4 of the members immediately disappeared outside while the rest of us cleaned up the remaining mobs near the plaza. I got a Purple drop during that short time that I sold for 300 million. Of course by that time the quick to run teammates were gone but don't you think they'd be kicking themselves wondering.. "If I'd stayed inside I might have gotten that!" LOL -
Definately agree and also I am a Trek fan from WAY back and the first to admit that if it were not for the cult popularity of the original none of the spin offs would have ever existed. Still in my own opinion Star Trek Next Generation was a much better show. Obviously the ability to create better graphics helped a lot .. come one let's face it in some of the old TOS shows you could practically see the string holding up the model of the Enterprise. More than that though the character develpoement was far superior. Kirk was the main focal point of most of the original shows and the running joke was.. which alien female will he sleep with this week and how long before his shirt get ripped off. STNG was much more of an emsemble show with episodes highlighting various members of the crew.. including some personal favorites that were not even in every episode.. Q for one and Lt. Barkley for another.
I was happy to see Farscape made the list. I loved that show and am still angry that SciFy removed it from their line up not because it wasn't popular but mainly because it cost too much to do. Yeah there's a great way to increase your veiwers keep the crappy made-for-TV movies you run on Saturdays but drop the highly popular, funny and interesting show that has people staying home on Friday nights to see. DUHHHHH
X-files is number 7 behind LOST Was the person that came up with this list on drugs. -
I started out with Scrappers and Masterminds but now have at least one of almost every AT (I don't own a PB and at present I don't have a Dominator).
For a long time I was into support toons.. Defenders and then Controllers but after avoidiing them for a very long time I'd have to say I really enjoy playing my Blasters. I must when you consider I have 8 incarnate toons that have at least a tier 3 slotted in all five powers and three of those are Blasters. LOL It gets worse.. My Crab Spider, that is my main toon and my badger, is pretty much set up as a Blaster and a mini Master mind (with 4 different pets including the one's from Lore). And of course I have an MM with bots that primarily is a debuffer but also has al of her ranged attacks.... BASICALLY if we team together I'm the one behind you doing a tremendous amount of damage.
I really only have one melee toon that's incarnate... my SD/SS tank. While I started with scrappers I think over the years I have just gotten tired of having to be able to maneuver myself into position to do any damage.. much faster and easier to aim and fire away. My 50 (+3) Widow would be the exception to that with a load of melee attacks but even she has 3 (now 4 with judgement) ranged attacks she can use if she can't get in close quickly.
My support toons have changed as well. I used to be mainly a buffer/healer.. with several Emps (both defenders and controllers) but now find myself much more partial to debuffers... Rad/Rad, Plant/Rad, and even my MM is Dark Miasma. I think the main reason for that is while buffs and heals are good with a lot of the power sets the buffs affect everyone except me so I was the one constantly being held, immobbed, or killed. Debuffing makes anything I attack, even when soloing, easier to defeat so its become a favorite. -
Quote:See, you're mixing up your definitions of 'alien'. (edit: Bah, no you're not. I jumped the gun and posted before reading your last paragraph) Neither the Rikti or the Praetorians are extraterrestrial and I don't think the Hydra are either. All of them come from earth, just a different one, kind of like that old sci-fi show Sliders.
However they all are non-native to primal earth and would be legally aliens in the same way someone from a foreign country would be an alien.
Yep! Like I said there is no real right or wrong answer. We could even use the word as a adjective to define any of them as aliens. The Rikti do not look like us, they do not talk like us and they have decidedly different values than we do. In other words their appearance, manner of speaking and actions are ALIEN to our own. hehehe Obviously one look at a Shivan, Hydra or Soldier of Rularuu and we can see that their appearance is decidedly alien to what we generally percieve as humanoid.
Now Praetorians are a little more difficult to classify in that manner since they do look and even talk like we do. We can't even really say their society is totally alien to out own since throughout the history of earth, well portions of it anyway, we have had more than our fair share of emperors that ruled and abused power. Guess we have to stick with the legal definition to term them as alien. -
Quote:Ahh beat me to it Narkor. There is nothing preventing you from shutting off the xp for 2 missions so you can complete an arc. You will stil earn influence needed to buy or craft emhancements, still get recipe and salvage drops.. the only thing you lose is the xp that got you to 15 and made you outlevel the contact to begin with.I'll just throw it in here, in case anyone is not aware of it yet.
You can disable earning xp in Menu > Options > General > Scroll down to Miscellaneous.
Of course, it doesn't outright solve the problem (that is the absurdity of out leveling contacts) but still, it can be useful.
Personally I used this same method to ensure a character I had that was rapidly approaching level 10 in KR didn't out level the Atlas Bank mission and the chance to obtain a raptor pack.
Another way to slow down and allow yourself to experience more content would be to go to a field rep and reduce the level of the enemies you battle to -1. You will still earn xp but at a lesser rate.
Of course both methods are only stop gaps that would let you complete an arc.. aside from that why would you want to shut or or turn down xp. The idea is to level up .. not stagnate. -
Quote:I tend to agree with DarkGob on this.. In defining alien ask one simple question.... Did I have anyone in my high school graduation class that looked like , talked like , or originated from there. LOLNo it's not. We live here (take "here" to mean "CoH Primal Earth"). This is where we live. Rikti live on their Earth. That is where they live.
Did you miss the day when they taught "here' and "there"?
Yes at some point the Rikti were humanoids just like us but they were altered a long time ago and it required a dimensional portal for them to arrive bent on destroying us. The Hydra .... same thing If I recall correctly, based on the abandoned sewer trial, the Rikti imported the Hydra from some other dimension and brought them to our earth. The fact that both those dimensions technically were alternate versions or our PRIMAL earth still doesn't change the fact that they don't come from here but are here now causing problems. Along those same lines yeah I would consider the Praetorians to be aliens. Again they come from another variation of earth in another dimension but just because they look and sound like us doesn't change the fact that they didn't take a quick airline ride to arrive here.. they used transdimesional portals to arrive. Would we be more inclined to think of them as aliens if the Hamidon had achieved total victory on THAT earth and it was bunch of Devouring Earth pouring through a hole in the sky to attack us
Now if we want to get really technical while the Rularuu are alien in nature since, I believe, there was only one brief period in game where they invaded earth when they were first introduced (Sorry that was before I began so I am not sure but I seem to recall reading about it). We are the ones now that constantly travel to their world and even have established various bases and outposts (Firebase Zula, etc), Technically WE are the alien race in their universe not the other way around LOL
So my list would look like this
Kheldans we know for a fact they arrived from outer space
Shivan They appeared here after Astroids from SPACE hit the planet
Rikti/Hydra Don't care if their planet looks a lot like ours they didn't originate here and they are invading us
Praetorian See explanations for Rikti/Hydra only they do look like us
Now to expand into the magical worlds
As Bill mentioned COT Demons .. last I checked there was no zip code or area codes to the nether world. They may not be from outer space but they are definately alien to us.
Croatoa's Fir Bolg, Red Caps and Tautha certainly fall into the same sort of other wordly area as the COT demons... not sure about the Cabal they are witches but real or imagined we have myths dating back centuries about witches here. As for the ghosts... well I believe they are former residence of Salamanca so while they may no longer be among the living they are certainly not aliens. Same goes for the ones on the ghost ship.. they didn't appear from out of a dimensional rift or emerge from a space ship.. they rose from their earthly graves to haunt us.
Okay now for some real controversy.. Giant mosters
Kraken is tied to the Hydra so he would be an alien
Babbage is really just a bunch of scrap metal that the Clockwork King and his metallic minions created so he's not an alien
Adamastor is a sea creature banished from the ocean depths for attacking the sea godess Thetis. He wasn't originally a part of the Banished Pantheon but they somehow found and control him.. Born right here on THIS planet he is not an alien just REALLY ugly lol
Jurassic is associated with the Devouring Earth and the theroy is he was somehow created by all of the toxic chemicals dumped in Crey's Folly.. he's home grown. No alien and we can all thank Countess Crey for having him to deal with. That sedan on the end of his club HURTS
Jack in Irons and Eochia.. one's the Red Cap boss the other the Fir Bolg so if we buy into beings from the nether world being aliens.. that's what they are
Sally .. No sorry she, like the Loch Ness monster, is probably just a left over dinosaur too stubborn to be extinct. hehehe She's a home grown gal and defiantely no alien
Kronos Titan is just a giant robot built by the Malta group right here. Just like Babbage just a lot of wires and circuits not alien
and of course .. Lusca. Really just a giant octopus that, at least according to Paragon Wiki, may have grown to her huge size as a result of pollution from Crey Industries. I am sure the longshoremen in IP are thrilled to death with Countess Crey over that. non alien as well
Caleb is a COT demon so again we are back to is the nether world, spirit world or whatever part of our planet or not. Tied to magic and the COT i vote for alien
Deathsurge. supposedly appeared sometime after Dr. Aeon fired up the PTS and at least one theory is he's a demon released when the Arachnos tapped in Mount Diablo .. depending on exactly HOW he came to exist .. he could be non alien if its simply a result of Aeon's flawed science ( The man has taken way too many hits in the head) or if he's a demon then we are back to that spirit world dilemma again LOL
Ghost of Scrapyard is just another ghost.. a very powerful one but still at one point prior to Mako killing him he lived and worked in Sharkhead so he is no alien
The Arachnos Flyer Okay I am still not sure how aircraft got classified as a GM but it did. since it was built by Arachnos and requires human pilots to work it is by no means alien
which, at present, leaves us with Lord Winter. He appears in our realm every winter, since 2009, and attacks. Recently we have begun attacking him in his realm as well (which looks very suspiciously like Croatoa). He's got a sort of mystical magical feel about him so I'd say he'd fall in with the demons and such.. The giant snowball has his own realm/dimension.. he's a alien.
Is there a right or wrong answer to this question.. not really. My grandfather arrived in the USA in 1917 and processed through Ellis Island along with a lot of other ALIENS from European countries coming to settle in American for the chance at a better life. The word has a lot of different meanings:
- Alien (law), a non-citizen inhabitant of a country
- Extraterrestrial life, defined as life that does not originate from Earth
- List of alleged alien beings (ufology)
- Any introduced species, a species living outside its native distributional range

I agree Ukaserex. Like you I understand why many play that way.. limited time to play, etc but I personally hate speed runs. Far too often the motivation has very little to do with time and much more to do with simply GREED. Aside from the Katy Hannon, the mother of all speed runs, prior to the merit system very few players sped through a TF or Trial. The main reason was .. they were mostly players within the range level of that TF and were there to earn xp. Obviously the more stuff you defeat the more you earn so people were happy to take their time.
NOW more than half the people you find on a TF or Trial are 50 levels only after the reward merits (to buy recipes or salvage), the weekly Notice of the Well (to slot their incarnate powers or convert into shards/threads), or the Incarnate component it awards (same reason as the NoTW). They don't care about xp because they don't need it and the faster they can get to the end of one TF or Trial the sooner they can be doing the next.
There is nothing horribly wrong with that its just not the way I enjoy playing the game. As long as a team leader advertises "Speed Run" when recruiting I have no issue .. I simply won't be contacting you to join your team. Now don't get me wrong I don't necessarily feel that every single mob on every single map UST be destroyed during any TF... After 3 straight mandatory KILL ALLs on Synapse followed by a Patrol and another Kill all I am more than happy to stealth through the missions we can to get done in less than 2 hours. And no one was happier to see them finally fix the Positron TF because that thing was almost as big a nightmare as the Doc Q TF in the Shadow Shard. But I have been on ITFs where the leader just assumed that everyone in game obviously loves SPEED RUNS and in mission two I found myself far behind the Brutes and Tank that were racing ahead and destoying rystal Shards.. leaving the rest us to die or clean up the ambushes they spawned. I don't think they realize that not everyone considers it a FUN experience to lay face down on the floor of a mission while the unsquishy toons do all the work.
While I have gotten numerous arguments when I have discussed this before I also can't see the advantage to rushing unless you simply don't have the time. A kill most TF allows players UNDER 50 to gain a lot of xp.. I have gotten as much as two levels out of a single ITF. It also means a lot more salvage and recipe drops including PURPLE Drops if you are high enough in level to obtain them.. one purple recipe can increase a players wealth by as much as 200, 300 or more million in INF. When the incarnate system began Shard drops were, and still are, based on number or defeats. Racing through an ITF to get to the end and get ONE component always seemed silly to me since I could get as many as 11 shards PLUS that component if we took our time and killed stuff instead of skipping over it. So I RACE through an ITF and get maybe 3-4 shards plus a component and then rush off to do another TF so I can get a 2nd component OR I take my time, in most cases 90 minutes or less, and walk out with that same comonent and enough shards to create a second.. not to mention all the added INF and recipe/salvage drops I got. -
Quote:I really don't want to get involved in this thread, but I feel I have a point to make here.
If the developers set the precedent that the Players themselves can dictate how many or how few players are needed for any particular task or event, the player base will immediately respond by demanding that every other particular task or event with a specific-number-of-players-required-limitation have that specific-number-of-players-required-limitation removed.
Whether or not you, or Leandro likes it, the developers have to stick to their guns when it comes to minimum players in a task or event.
If that means shutting down a in-progress trial that has dropped to 11 players from 12? Well, sorry, them's the breaks.
Not to pick on you in any way Je_saist but I cant say I agree with you. First off we have a lot of Task forces and Trials that require a minimum number of players TO START. But once they begin if a player leaves for Real World Issues or simply disconnects and never returns I have never seen a message on a Statesman TF, or an ITF saying the Task Force failed simply because I didn't have the required number of team mates. As we all know there are players that have soloed or duoed the ITF alomg with many of the other 45-50 level Task Forces. So the example has long been set that while you need a set number to start something as long as you have the ability to finish it.. you are allowed to do so.
Now it sounded like Leandro's team wasn't having any problems when those players disappeared.. They managed to take out 2 of 3 Reactors without them so it was hardly a case of "We are sorry but your team cant possibly continue you dont have enough people.. Trial Failed!"
It's been mentioned that IF the Devs were going to institute something like this it should happen in a reasonable amount of time. By that I mean it should not be a matter of the moment the team drops below the limit POOF they are done.. People do dc and come back so lets say they made it 5 minutes. If a player isnt back by then chances are he or she isn't coming back. But allowing the league to get half way through the trial after a member disappears and then out of the blue failing the thing is just wrong. As Leandro mentioned those players had 30 minutes invested in that trial and sounds likes they were doing quite well. So there was no reason to suddenly boot them all and force them to recruit again and start all over.
Frankly the whole idea seems silly to me. It was not a case of trying to start the trial under the limits and doesn't even sound like a case of purposely dropping someone to be able to brag we did it with 11. Add the fact the on other things there are players bragging they soloed a TF designed for 8 players and no one fromN Soft seemed to care about that so why suddenly start caring NOW -
To make it simple the BAF is the easiest to complete and awards more Astrals, even without doing anything special, that either the Lambda or Keyes.
I don't think anyone is crazy about the current IXP nerf.. prior to 20.5 I could expect to get between 10-15 % of the XP required for Judgement or Lore on a BAF now I am getting 2-5%? I saw in another thread some one speculating that they may have started low and will up those percentage later but who knows for sure? To me it has definately become easier to simply convert Merits to threads and buy the IXP I need but not every player has several Tony Stark style (Billionare) characters around to finanace that.
At this point it really doesn't matter what your team is assigned to do since everyone gets credit for every defeat including the AV (S) on any trial. I have Blasters that have never fired off a single shot at an AV on a BaF and came away with rares or very rares. I have a plant/rad that usually gets assigned to the AV teams (why would you put a debuffer on adds?) but has occasionally been assigned to ADDS. I generally run over and put a debuff toggle on either or both AVs and then run back to help kill adds.. THAT troller seems to be a Rare/Very rare magnet and I actually had to craft commons to complete tier 3 and 4 powers because she wasn't getting any no matter what her assignment. Now they CLAIM rewards are random but that Troller has actually sold off very rares to fund other stuff and her debuffs are AoE along with a number of her vine attacks. I have melee ATS (my Tank and my Widow) that battle just a hard and as long and getting anything above an umcommon is a rare treat.
I can see the point made concerning the excaping prisoners but from the CUT SCENE, thank goodness we don't have to watch that every time anymore, we know that sleeper agent have been planted in with the regular prisoners. In the short amount of time we have to deal with the situation is it really a good idea (for RP purposes of course) to try to decide who is a GOOD escaping prisoner and who is a BAD one? The old "Shoot em all and let G O D figure it out" mentality seems best. Once we defeat both Nightstar and Siege to end the trail who is to say we don't go inside the facility and rescue everyone? Remember its COH.. nothing ever dies here I open up with my automatic weapon. I fire grenades at you, set you on fire with my flame thrower and when your health reaches zero you are magically teleported to medical facilities, healed and then sent back to a prison cell. Then considering the number of times I have defeated the same Council bosses on radio missions apparently the guards at the Zigg never bother to check your cell for that escape tunnel you used and throw you right back into the same one LOL
The BAF is probably the most popular trial at the moment, I see more of them forming than any lother, mainly because it is easy to complete and has better rewards. -
Quote:They already give you the percentage needed to finish the slot, and you should be able to see "Oh, buying it in this one gives me 3.3%, this one gives me 2%." It's already simple math. Plus, neither threads (nor, at this point, the INF required for them) are all that difficult to get.
Plus, it doesn't let you spend *past* that anyway. At most, you've "wasted" (and I use that term loosely, as burning the thread for this gets you your goal) 1 thread and up to 1 mill INF. If you could "spend" past it (you need 2%, you find you've burned 6 threads,) then maybe - but I wouldn't expect *that* to get out of beta.
Bill is totally correct. I sort of tested the coversion from threads to IXP on BETA when they were giving away astrals and emps. To go for absolute zero % to open .. Judgement and Interface require 30 threads/ 30 million INF each. To do the same with Lore and Destiny it required 45 threads/45 million in INF a piece.
Now if you have run a few trials and earned say 10 or 20% of that total obviously you use less but at most a portion of 1 thread and a portion of 1 million INF is the most you are wasting to finish opening any power slot. If it's Judgement or Interface it isn't even being wasted .. simply transfers and begins the process of opening Destiny or Lore. So at most you are wasting a total of 2 threads and 2 million in INF to have all 4 powers opened up. well to be totally correct you are WASTING part of that 2 threads/2 million... the other part was used to buy whatever percentage of IXP you still needed to be done.
And yes folks if you just did the math that means you need 150 threads and 150 million in Inf to open up all 4 powers without ever doin a trial..
So if you are doing TFs and earning shards.. you can convert 10 shards a day to 10 threads for 2.5 million You need to EARN 10 shard a day and convert daily and in only 15 days you will have what you need at a cost of 37.5 million INF. Then convert all those shards to threads and you have 4 brand new open powers with nothing slotted in them and it cost you another 150 million.
Each tier one power required three common components at a cost of 20 threads each or 60 total and each tier two power require an umcommon (60 threads) and two more commons (40 threads). So to get all 4 powers to tier 2 you will now need another 640 threads 60 threads + 100 threads X 4 powers. thats another 64 days of converting shards to threads and an additional cost of 160 million INF.
At that point you have gone through 347.5 million in influence and still don't have one addition level shift. To get one power (LORE or Destiny if you want a level shift) to tier three you will now need to make 4 uncommons and gather an additional 100 threads... 4 x 60 = 240 for the uncommons plus the 100 so JUST to craft a rare requires another 340 threads and then you need another 2 commons to actually craft a rare(tier 3) power for a total cost per power of 380 threads.. That's another 34 days of converting 10 shards to ten threads at an additional cost of 85 million. Do that twice and you now have al three level shifts! Lets total that all up for you shall we
In all its going to take you 147 days ( or almost 5 months) to convert shards to threads and open and slot judgement to tier 2, Lore to tier 3, interface to tier 2 and Destiny to teir 3. You will spend roughly 517.5 million in Influence to achieve that. You could cut costs by only slotting Judement and Interface to tier one or not slotting them at all but JUDGEMENT is actually a good power ( a mini nuke that recovers fast and doesn't use up all you end) and INTERFACE allows any AT to debuff enemies and do added damage over time.
That's what anyone trying to gain incarnate powers without doing trials faces at the moment so wasting part of 1 thread and a portion of million in INF to finish opening a power seems like a small price to pay to me. -
Just to keep this rolling a bit so that maybe someone will learn from it and stop the Cut Scene nonsense let me relate another FAILED lambda I was on a while ago..
Everything went well until we defeated the Security Guard. I was on a blaster and the league leader assigned our team, team 2, to grenades. We headed in and when 3 of us got to the first container someone attacked so I launched my attacks to cover my team mates. Now WHY anyone would attack a mob designed to challenge an 8 manteam with only 3 I don't know but I am not the type to stand back and watch my team mates die. Short version .. the trios consisted of 2 blasters and a controller.. we all ended up dead.
Now as we are laying there i am wondering where the heck everyone else is and I zoom out on my mini map to discover there are 4 of us in the warehouse and we are all dead. I head to the hospital and send out a message "why are there only 4 people in the warehouse?" The league leader instructs players from team 2 to get to the right side. I head back in and discover 4 or 5 players now scattered all over the map and most are dead or dying.. worse.. the dead ones are not hosping they seem to be waiting for someone to tp and rez them. team one seems to be having trouble with the whole work as a TEAM concept to and eventually time runs out with 10 acids and exactly 2 grenades recovered.
Okay things are going to be tough but not undoable we just need to close the portals and Not AGGRO Maurader until we have more nades. While Team one is closing portals I even say in league chat don't aggro the AV until we are ready.
Oh did I Mention that once again after dying repeatedly TRYING to get grenades there were three members of team 1 in the cut scene? Yeah apparently they saw no need for pacifying Maurader it was more fun to disco in the mini movie.
I don't think i had my warning not to aggro Maurader for more than a few seconds before all of his support troops and Maurder himself were attacking us. The BRILLIANT trio that just had to dance with the AV managed to aggro him trying to get back to us and pulled everything down on top of us.
People were dying left and right and suddenly things got worse.. the acid team hadn't closed more than 5 portals and reinforcements were pouring in and heading straight for us. We couldn't get to the weapon drops to grab grenades because we couldn't stay alive long enough. People started to quit when it became obvious we couldn't win.... including some of the ones that had the remaining acids. We were down to about 4 minutes left and half the team was gone , we had NO more grenades than when we first left the facility and still had five protals open. Last post i saw from the leader before I quit after my 10th death was "Okay lets let the timer run out and start over and try to figure out where we went wrong"
Where we went wrong? What did we do right? LOL
1. Teams did not pay attention and do what they were assigned to do.. 12 players on acids is 4 TOO MANY.
2. After being instructed to get where they belonged most players did head to the rigth spot but on both sidesit seemed like no one payed attention to the "STAY TOGETHER INSIDE SO YOU SURVIVE" speech the leader gave before we even entered the Queue. We had 2 players here, and 2 there spread out all over the map. No one had enough damage to be effective and some players either didn't pay attention when they were told to HOSP. or decided to just lay there and collect IXP or whatever rather then go rez and come back.
3. Of course three players just HAD to be in the cut scene instead of helping out with grenades. Which only added to our problems.
4. Same trio managed to pull everything down on top of us long before we were ready to fight. Result was we never got more grenades and couldn't even get the other portals closed.. so more and more reinforcments joined the blood bath.
Now obviously on the MESS of a trial the three guys in the cut scene were by no means the only problem. If anyone had done their assigned task inside we'd have had all the acids and grenades and would have been fine. BUT even with the mess up inside we still had a chance UNTIL out three man disco squad managed to pull every bad guy within a mile down on top of us while we were still organizing.
If your reading through this thread you may have noticed not a single person has argued that being in the CS isn't a big deal. You have seen that many leaders WILL outright tell you upfront "I see your face in Maurader's Cut Scene and i will kick you" So for goodness sake take the hint.. IT IS NOT FUNNY ANYMORE so stop being idiots and stay the heck off camera. Use that time to do something constuctive.. like OHHHH I dont know.. HELP YOUR TEAM! -
Quote:I can't understand why anyone is bothered about dying anyway? It's not like there's a long corpse-run or negative XP or whatever. It's trivial.
Eco
EXACTLY you win an all expenses paid trip to Kings Row. LOL sorry our budget is pretty small.
The only players that can even enter any of the trials are 50 levels.. There is no reason to worry about dying anymore since you are at the highest level you can ever attain. Now I am not saying you shouldn't resist death as much as possible since a live team mate that can fire off attacks, buffs, debuffs, etc is much more useful than one laying face down of the floor. But an attitude of "I won't even try that part cause I'll just end up dead" in my opinion STINKS.
There were plenty of Defenders, Controllers and other "Squishy" AT on the league in question but they all headed inside and did the best they could. As I mentioned the Tank I was playing was on her first ever Lambda and only her 2nd Trial .. Not a single level shift so she was at a -4 disadvantage and died 3 or 4 times during that same trial but as soon as i rezzed in the hospital i rushed back, passing the MM that refused to help, on the way. I never decided I'll just hang around out here while you +3 types finsih up in there.. I went back and added my damage to the mix until we had all the acids and grenades.
The MM in question was nothing more than a leech, as one of the other team members pointed out, happy to stand around outside waiting to dance in the cut scene rather while the rest of us did the work. I loved his comment after he managed to make the trial fail...
"I had NO idea!" Really? You didn't see any of the warnings about the trial failing if Maurader leaves the compound? On ANY of the Lamdbas you have been on? And Since you knew exactly where to stand so you'd be in the cut scene don't even think about saying you never did one before. He's on any number of peoples lists at this point and I am sure word will spread and he wont have to worry about dying on the Lambda anymore.. cause he'll be hard pressed to find anyone that will invite him to join one. -
Quote:I'm working on Portal Jockey, and I've already defeated 5/14 Praetorian AV's- Is there any way to check which ones I still need? Also, does defeating Marauder, Nightstar, Siege, and Antimatter during incarnate trials count towards this badge?
Sadly, at least for now, no there is not. A long time ago I noticed another player that kept a list of the one's he'd defeated in his bio and I started doing that. If you can remember which one's you have battled THAT is about the best you can do right now. All the badge tracker will say is 5 of 14 but has no way of telling you which are the 9 you still require. -
For the most part it's actually pretty hard to fail a trial with a decent group of players. I have done the Keyes island trial 4 times and even when it felt like no one had a clue what was going on and the whole thing felt like a Cluster (insert expletive deleted of your choice) we managed to pull through and get a mission complete and all our Astrals and Empyreans.
And then there are the missions like the Lamdba I just left...
Everything started out fine. We cleared the streets outside, wiped out the courtyard, eliminated the turrent and defeated the Security guard. Then the glowies stage began....
[League] Tia Anker: why are there only 4 of us on nades [I asked this question after the 4 of us died taking out a weapons cache]
[League] XXOOOOO: cause I die if I go in there
[League] TM 03 Then die
[League] TM 03 It's better tan being a coward
[League] TM 03: Or, you know, a team leach ^_^
[League] XXOOOOO: uhm... no... just dieing, to get up, to die, is really quite pointless
[League] XXOOOOO: and uses a lot of insp
[League] Tia Anker: really and what if we all felt that way
[League] XXOOOOO if I was a tank, and I was planning on running and leaveing the squishy healer behind, I wouldn't care
[League] XXOOOOO: if the tanks really cared, they would out run us squishy guys
[League] XXOOOOOO: but seeing as how you might
need a res in a min, you'll be glad I'm there
For the record I died 3 times while located and detroying weapons crates for grenades and not Once did this clown tp me and rez me.. he was outside and had no idea if anyone was alive or dead. Plus everyone knows the hospital is in zone and has a combat nurse.. why let someone rez you when you can hit the hospital and resupply?
I was on my WP/DB Tanker Tia Anker the other names are switched to protect the innocent along with the guilty. XOOOO is a 50 level MM that was standing outside at the entrance where Maurader appears long before any team had completed its task. As you can see he felt it wasn't his responsibility to help with nades or Acids since he'd just die. Now I have done countless trials at this point on everything from an MM to a defender to a controller , a Crab spiders, a Widow, and my other Tank. I never just refused to go inside and hunt for glowies even if I knew it meant frequent trips to the hospital.. I figured if the mob was busy killing me maybe someone else was able to destroy the weapons container or containment chamber so we had more temps to play with.. That's called being a good team mate. Anyway despite our MM we managed to get all of the nades and acids and then....
[League] LL : Leave one or two Portals open till we get our bonus merit
[League] TM 01: WTH
[League] TM 02: You a__hole
[League] XXOOOO: think I'ma go drown myself in a bucket now
[League] Tia Anker: yeah that really helps me get merits to slot this toon I just started trials with her
[League] TM 02 Why weren't you helping us break stuff anyways? Why were you up here?
[League] LL : *sigh*
[League] Squad 0 Commander: seriously had no idea, really really sorry
[League] LL: We'll go again
Can you guess what that is a response to? Yeah the very same MM who refused to DIE to help out and spent the entire time waiting to dance, WITH HIS MINONS, in the cut scene managed to aggro Marauder and before we could even get outside and shut a single portal the trial failed because Maurader chased either him or his pets out the entrance. So not only did our so called HERO refuse to help out cause he'd just die and use a lot on inspirations up [you are a 50 level and the hospital is IN ZONE. If buying a few new inspirations sets you back that much you need to go run a few kill all ITFs and leave the trials to those of us that can afford to be here .. a catch a breath costs a whole 50 INF Sheesh] but he turned right around and cause they trial to fail so he could see his Avatar dancing behind Maurader in the cut scene [Just so those not already aware know.. that has stopped being cute a LONG LONG time ago and all you do is identify yourself as a selfish jerk instead of a good team mate].. BTW while I totally agree with that last statement I am just repeating what someone else said to a couple guys that HAD to boogy with Maurader in a different Lambda I was on recently. Its not just MY opinion its one that a number of players share and after today I am sure a few more joined the ranks.
You want a simple easy guide to a successful trial (any of them) okay...
1. PAY ATTENTION if the League leader says pull to the Norht wall on a BAF then get to the North wall and wait for the tank to bring the AV to you.
2. DO WHAT YOUR TOLD If you are assigned to the warehouse to find grenades on a LAMBDA don't go to the Lab and find acids cause you don;t like the other side or its too laggy there. I have been on lambda where 12 people were after acids and 4 were on nades .. and three of US, me included, were blasters.. Guess how many pacification grenades we sound up with? ( ZERO)
3. LEARN TO COUNT TO THREE and RECOGNIZE ALL THREE OF THOSE NUMBERS. I cant count how many times I have been on a BAF and the leader says Team 1 to North choke point, 2 and 3 SOUTH.. and a minute or less later team leaders from 2 and 3 are yelling at members to get them to the right side... HERE LET ME HELP YOU .. 1 <----this is a one 2 <----this is a two and 3 <----this is a three.
4. MOST TRIALS ONLY LAST A MAXIMUM OF ONE HOUR and are usually done much faster.. FOR 30 MINUTES TRY THINKING ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE BESIDES YOURSELF. Even if you don't manage to aggro the AV and cost the whole league by making the mission fail. There is nothing I personally find more annoying than dying with one of my squishies repeated while trying to get acids or nades and then after all of them are located discovering 4-5 members of the team that finished first goofying around behind and even in front of Maurader in the cut scene. Especially after the League Leader, and thier team leader specifically said to go help the other team. Makes me feel like I just died about 4 -5 times for their amusement. I NEVER do it myself and have always rushed to the other side when my team finished first.
I particularly love the MM's comments about tanks since I was on one during that mission. I was ahead of the team for the first 3 Weapons Containers sure.. They followed me to where it was because I KNEW where they all were and I attacked first so I absorbed the ALPHA strike instead of any squishy. And I had no level shifts as all since this Tanl only has a tier 2 ion Alpha and in Destiny so far. I BOUGHT IXP to open all the powers but have only had enough to slot those two so far. So my 50 (+0) tank was tanking hits from level 54s and this MM is yapping to me about dying. I was in the hospital 3 times and passed him twice on the way back in to DIE again HELPING my team.
Okay I needed that rant after that mission LOL -
I am taking my time with it and hoping the learning curve provides a bit more ATTENTION to INSTRUCTIONS but to date i have been on 4 Keyes Island runs and all 4 were sucessful. All four were a Cluster >>> (
she did not say that! Did she?) lol but we did manage for stablize all reactors and defeat Anti-Matter. Oh and all 4 Were on Virtue over the past few days beginning with one on Tuesday only a few hours after 20.5 went live.
It seems like it will be a good trial for new incarnates to get IXP on since you have so many adds you HAVE to clear out to control the reactors. -
Quote:Thanks Devil.. Like I said it was something I was thinking about and then someone else on the Keyes island trial mentioned the same thing so I decided to post it.Wendy, That's not a bad idea at all. It wouldn't be as fast but at least people like me who play at odd hours wouldn't be totally excluded! It would also make reward merits more useful. Right now, I convert them into hero merits but if I could use them as you describe, that would very nice indeed.
It would even save the Dev's from actually having to design specific missions for solo incarnate stuff.
Well done!
Now ... I have posted this before as well but "The squeeky wheel gets the grease!" so:
I still feel that players should be given a token or whatever and allowed a ONE time only chance to switch LORE pets. I realize there is nothing preventing anyone from have as many types as they want but..
People started asking for more types of pets, besides Praetorian, back when the new powers were still in beta. Very few players were willing to hold off on slotting LORE to at least tier 3 becasue the Devs made that power one of the two that grants an additional level shift during trials. *I could have all 4 different judgement powers too but frankly I have over a dozen differnet characters working on incarnate stuff and am not about to waste threads and components on spare powers. I thin you'll find most players probably feel the same.
I;m not asking for us to be able to constantly break down our powers and start over just give us one "respec" for lack of a better term and allow us to switch from Seers to Longbow at the same tier. Again this is an idea I have heard other players talking about in game so I am not alone and the idea in business is to keep the customer happy. -
I enjoy the new Trial.. Its quite a challenge but I've done it twice and have two characters with the badge.
A couple of suggestions.. Find a way to make the transition process with the Astral and Empyrean vendors a bit quicker. I realize it takes a little time to confirm and convert but it's really slow right now and I had a lot of incarnates with stuff to convert. I think I spend an hour or TWO just turning merits into Threads.
The second is a thought I had and during my 2nd Keyes Island trial a team mate stated the same idea. It's possible at the moment to convert an Astral merit into a reward merit. Many of us are still puzzled as to why anyone would convert an Empyrean merit into an Astral LOL The suggestion is this.... Allow players to convert Reward Merits into Astrals as well. A 1 for 1 swap would be ideal but I think most players would even be happy with say 4 reward merits for 1 Astral??? We have a number of players that can't or don't wish to participate in trials and many have been very vocal here asking for solo missions or some other way to earn threads and gain powers besides trials. This idea would allow players to run any TF and obtain reward merits (heck even getting the zone accolades for finding all the exp badges in a zone gives a 5 merit breward). If they convert those merits to Astrals and then the Atrals to threads they can eventually open and enhance all 5 of the current powers we now enjoy. Plus it gives them a way to obtain the new costumes, emotes, araus, ect. -
I've been on two Keyes Trials and both were a success. It seems like a very good trial for players looking to earn IXP with all the ADDs you have to defeat in order to stabilize the reactors. As time passes I am confident people will devise strategies that will make completion a simple task.. For now its a good challenge and good fun.
A couple things to keep in mind.. expect to die a few times or more. The Pulse does exactly what people say it does.. 50% of your health disappears in one shot and all it takes is one slight miscalculation and you are face down. When building the league try to find a few good Defenders or Controllers with the ability to heal and having along a few with rebirth as their Destiny power choice helps a lot as well (but without questioning every member that joins a league knowing what they have is impossible). STICK together and follw instructions.
Lastly.. while you will find it impossible not to .. try TRY TRY not to attack Anti Matter. Just as stated the more he gets hit and the lower his health the stronger the pulse attacks become. You are going to do SOME damage to him.... the last two reactors require him to be taunted to every console in order to power them up. I personally hit him several times with my Fire/Fire Blaster after finishing off the last of the defense troops around a power station. But the less damage he takes the less you do... if you have team mates that cant understand that .. fire on them for a while LOL
Good luck .... and enjoy the new trial -
Adding a few new ideas here after 20.5 has gone live...
OMG please find a way to increase the speed transactions can be conducted when we are converting Atral and Empyrean merits. I converted a bunch of both into thread vouchers to help some of my "slower" incarnates and if you have a lot, which i did, it can take quite a while to finish. I understand it taking time to convert etc but surely we can speed that up a bit.
How about a way people that DON"T like the trials can cash in? I noticed that I can convert an astral into a reward merit so why can't I do the same thing going the other way. Say 5 reward merits = 1 Astral. It would give players that dislike doing the trials at least SOME method to actually earn some threads and obtain the new powers.
Figured it was high time for an edit here. The situation concerning the Astral and Empyrean stores being slow only lasted the first day they went live... once the huge crowd all trying to cash in colected merits was gone transactions were much quicker. No fix is necessary .. not much you can do about 40 or more people all trying to use the same store at the same time. I suppose an additional set of stores or even a few couold be established in the future so the same doesn't occur but honestly I have not seen a need for it since day one. -
ah well may as well chime in and join what definately qualifies as a majority opinion here.......... NO (did I make that large enough?)
When a Brute can hold aggro as well as a Tank come back and chat with us again. I have done ITFs with a Brute serving as the only Aggro control against Romulus and found myself using my run and shoot abilities, honed to perfection on the Apex TF, to avoid certain death. Never had the same problem with a GOOD tanker along. I've got a controller that got one shotted by black Scorpion on the STF with a Brute doing aggro control... again never had the same problem with a tank along.
And as stated, numerous times, while my defenders don'y do as much damage I'll take the buff/debuff numbers they produce on any team I am on Anytime.
I have nothing against Brutes or Corruptors and play those as well but i see no reason to do away with Defenders or tanks. -
I don't recall there being a way to completely get rid of it but there are at least 10 slots showing for crafted powers .. in each power tray. So technically, if you wanted to waste that many threads and components, you could have a tier 4 for numerous options.. Alpha.. cardiac, Muscular, ect and still have slots left for tier 3s.
About the only one that won't continue to hold true for is Lore once 20.5 hits and we get the additional pet options.. But Judgement has 4 types of powers to slot so 4 tier fours, same with Alpha, Destiny and Interface. Each has 2 very rare options so technically you could have 8 very rare (tier 4's) slotted per power and still not be totally out of room.. plus who knows how many you can actually slot? I know I have no desire to use up that many threads and components i may need later when new powers arrive.
There is an option to remove a power from the tray on the screen where you actually load the power into its slot so it works but I have NO desire to test that out and have to start over crafting just to clarify your question. Unless it really BUGS you just ignore it. if it does petition and MAYBE they will do something about it for you... Never hurts to ask
-
Let's see...
Dual Pistols.. I have several characters with that and Icee Hotee is my 50(+3) incarnate that couples it with Ice Manipulation to drive Villains crazy.
I have a SD/SS Tank I love.. Nothing is more fun than using Shield Charge to attack a mob followed by foot stomp.. Everything goes flying and then just as they start to get up they go flying again. By the time that's done a lot of minions are dead and the rest are definately paying attention to ME not the rest of my team -
Sam I understand what you are saying to an extent but I think it depends on how one views the game and the contacts. Sure some contacts make it seem like you are an underling to be bossed around but a lot of them simply give you the details of what is happening and it's your decision to handle it or not... Keeping in mind that now we have so much contact you can literally skip doing anything for a contact if you don't feel like it and still make it to the next tier level of contacts.
Praetoria, to me, was a break from the norm where the contact simply gave me an assignment and said "See you when you get back!" I actually had contacts join me inside missions to help out or in others they were in contact with me but off performing some other portion of the "MASTER PLAN". I found that very refreshing .. even the Task Forces we see hero side have some super hero sending YOU off to battle evil while they stay behind.. "Umm excuse me Posi. I'm just curious if this situation is so bad why aren't you helping us deal with it?" LOL
I think it all boils down to the RPG portion of MMORPG. In my mind my characters are independant agents doing whatever they deem necessary or whatever looks like fun to them. The contacts are just that CONTACTS.. Hey Batman gave Chief Gordon the bat signal because he knew the Police Department had a lot more eyes and ears to detect crime. You can patrol all night and if you don't get lucky you may not spot a single crime but if a silent alarm goes off in a bank being robbed and your Police contact lets you know.. you can stop the robbers!
I actually like the idea of Incarnate contacts that give us missions (that can be teamed [8 man limit] or soloed). Written properly this can be as simple a thing as "We are detecting a situation that may cause serious problems if it is allowed to continue. Perhaps you can look into it if you aren't already busy with other matters?" As Incarnates we are working on being godlike, demi-gods so to speak, but in Mythology even the gods themselves all worked for one BOSS.. (ZEUS as an example). -
Quote:So those of us who aspire to VIP membership will soon be earning 400 Paragon Points a month which we will be able to apply to a myriad of wonderful and whimsical things. Now, I'm sure we'll be able to purchase Costumes, temp powers, respecs and many other lovely things.
Those are boring, however.
What follows is a list of things you will definitely, uncatagorically NOT be able to purchase using your Paragon Points.
* Developer's home phone numbers.
* The Animated Atlas Statue non-combat pet.
* The full collection of Arch-Villains Gone Wild videos.
* An intimate dinner date with Zwillinger... I was going to say ANY Dev or Mod but I sort of get the feeling a few of our Gamer Gals could talk Beastyle into it.
* The Big Red Ball - some things are just TOO powerful for in-game use.
* A personalized Nemesis Plot. This is because you are already involved in a Nemesis Plot; you're just not aware of it yet.
* The Fusionette locator GPS system; technology just hasn't come far enough yet.
* The Paragon City Bus Travel Power. Yes, I KNOW the joke was too easy... yes, I KNOW I shouldn't have gone there since I've over used the joke too many times as it is...
* You will not be able to use your points to get Steelclaw to not go for the easy, obvious jokes.
* The Sister Psyche/Manticore Honeymoon footage. It's not really worth it anyway... rumor has it the cutscene is only 4 minutes long.
* Captain Mako's "Charlie the Tuna" commercial audition out-takes.
* Special sound effects to help customize your powers. Such as burp sounds for Fire Breath and Admiral Akbar screaming "it's a trap!" for every primary your Traps Defender uses.
* The Dance Gun Temp Power.
* Samuraiko chained to a wall until she makes you a personalized video that you just know will get 4 quadrillion-zillion hits on YouTube.
* Respect. Life. Love. And all those words you sob into your pillow at night when you can't drown the loneliness out anymore all while sinking inevitably into a pit of despair no matter how hard you scrabble and scrape your fingernails bloody against the pit walls your uncaring and distant parents dug for you during the entirety of your so-called "childhood."
* An explanation of that last joke.
* Rhythm; you know who you are.
* The entire Development team showing up at door on Christmas Eve and singing Paragon Parody Christmas Carols.
* A lovely, witty and well-crafted City of Heroes T-Shirt... mass produced and made available to an adoring fan base... .... .... sad, but true...
I'm really disappointed about the Animated Atlas Statue NC Pet but does this mean we still have a shot at the Animated M-1 Statue NC Pet? After all the man has even more statues scattered around than Atlas .. even though no one has a clue exactly what he did to earn them.
Come on Steel do we really need a GPS system to locate Fushionette? Just knock on the door of any villain lair and ask tobe escorted to the "Kidnapped Heroines Room" .. Most of them have a plaque dedicating the room to her.
Dang and I was so hoping I could get Rythm at the store.. My characters all just keep doing the shuffle.
HEHEHE -
Maybe this will help clear things a bit...
http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/fre...es.html#tabs-3
The side by side comparion shows exactly what a Free 2 play, Premium and VIp player can expect.
As you can see F2P has very limited access to chat and from what I see, aside from help, no access to any of the numerous globals players now use to find and form teams.
It says they get no access to email period so i think we can assume that includes emailing salvage, recipes, and INF to themselves.
As for the market it says "limited" exactly what that means I am not sure but for VIPs it specifies we can buy/sell/and store.
Heck it looks like if they even want access to the invention system they need to pay for it.. I assume that's what that means anyway.
Everything I see makes it clear that free to play will be little more than an extended trial sub. They get no access to incarnates and don't even get access to all of the ATs we do. Its more a way to let folks start for free, get a feel for the game and if they like it and want more they will pay the sub and become VIPs.
