Quote:The sheer level of SRS BSNS in this thread is amazing and awesome. "NO, YOU'VE RUINED THE INTEGRITY OF MY CUTSCENE, HOW ELSE WILL I APPRECIATE THE STATIC, VAPID FACES AND EXAGGERATED HAND GESTURES!?!?!?!"
I've done it, but only because my team finished the crates and there were only 3 acids left to go, had just enough time to get into position with /e newspaper. I would never just stand there while everyone else collected temps though, bad form. In other words, its a pretty rare scenario that you can pull this off while still contributing.
Also, if you take off right after the cutscene, the AV doesn't aggro at all, its like the AV isn't "active" for the first few seconds or something.
Here's to hoping they replace those cutscenes with the new comic intros ASAP, the cutscenes in this game deserve all the mocking and bombing they can get.
I'm sorry and just exactly where, from what I have read and posted here, did you get the idea that ANYONE gives a crap about the so called integraty of the cut scene.. I for one was very vocal about giving us the option to shut all of the stupid things off completely. We at least got a chance at missing Mother Mayhem at the beginiing of the BAF but only if absolutely no one on the team has never seen it yet. That works about half the time for me so far. Here's a simply solution to the problem..take every last one of them and toss them in the delete file.
What the majority of us that have posted negative comments here are concerned about is the idiots that feel the need to pose in them. I don't give a crap if there are 8 grenades or acids still left to find or one... your team mates are still inside trying to run past multiple lieutenants and bosses to find the crate/container and destroy them. They are inside taking damage and possibly dying AGAIN while you, figuratively not necessary you personally, are outside standing around preparing to be an.. A$%.
Now if you have 3 acids in your possession and the other team has nine of ten grenades and on the way back from the hospital you hear .. "Here it is Everyone on me" chances are you are not needed inside. This happened to me recently.. So instead of camping at the gate so I could show off my neat dance moves.. I moved into position so I could start taking out portals as soon as the stupid cut scene ended. So between me and the jerk Tank you find yourself watching flexing his muscles behind MAURADER .. which do you see as a better team player. Just so you know if you picked the tank I hope I never have to team with you. -
Quote:I hate to tell you this, but the people who lead trials seem to be some of the dumbest players I've ever encountered.
I had someone ask me if Rad was a debuffing set yesterday.
There was some Keyes trial forming on Freedumb where the requirement to join was "Must be 53 with t3 Rebirth, or a Healer". I swear people were smarter before I left.
OH NO please while don't confine that to just FreeDUM... I saw almost the exact same post in globals for a Keyes forming on Virtue... then again may be the same So-called leader I was on a BAF with last week. After his "strategy" backfired and we began to struggle trying to clear out the Adds that had built up and were killing us faster than we could handle them he announced..
"This works perfectly fine of Freedom. I think I'll head back there where people KNOW how to play" And then he quit. The general feeling of the league was .. he formed the league. we followed HIS instructions to the letter, and when it all fell apart somehow it was OUR fault. Not sure about anyone else but I started a note of the guy and one starred him.
As for being smarter before.. not sure when you left but I do find myself questioning the IQ of some of the people I meet on leagues.
Okay I admit there are no BIG NUMBERS at the top of each team but most players can pretty much figure out that the team with the league leader is # 1 and from left to right you have team # 2 and (if applicable) Team # 3. And yet even when the leader repeats the instructions when its time to do it I still find players from team 2 in the lab after acids instead of in the warehouse after grenades (lambda). Players from any number of the teams that either have NO clue what team they are on or can't distinquish between north and south on a map ( BAF). There are times I swear the phrase "don't aggro the AV" (lambda) must mean CHARGE AHEAD NOW in some foreign langauge I am unaware of and the phrase "Don't attack the AV until the tank pulls him to NS" means .. that tank looks like he needs help why don't you all rush up there and attack!
I cherish the times when I find myself on a team that pays attention, follows instructions and when the trial ends everyone is remarking OMG that was soooo easy! LOL -
I'm sure most of you that participate in the incarnate trials have seen the advertising for mini BAFs. ost are probably keenly aware of what it means but I decided to post here and go over some of the benefits.
Okay lets start with size.. A maxed out BAF requires 24 players and depending on the time of day can fill quickly or take as much as 20-30 minutes to fill. A mini BAF can have as few as 12 players so recruiting takes up much less time
Now lets discuss LAG .. Not everyone deals with this but most of us do in one form or the other and it can cause attacks to take a lifetime to fire off or casue problems as extreme a crashing. The worst lag time on a BAF of course occurs during the Escaped Prisoner Phase and with a smaller team the lag is not nearly as bad and the number of prisoners is much smaller so it becomes much easier to prevent any escapes thus earning an extra astral or if its your first time ... a badge, the astral and a component.
Adds .... Okay this is one area where if you are still working on IXP a mini may not be for you. With a smaller team there are less adds meaning less stuff to kill so less XP. However is you have your Judgement and Lora open a mini means less Adds trying to take off hyour character's head while you are trying to defeat the AVs.
Time in trial .. I haven't really tried to gauge this but I think it's pretty much about the same on a mini as it is on a full sized BAF. Less adds may make it easier to concentrate on the AV but less team mates means it may take a bit longer, depending on the team make up, to defeat them.
Now the important thing with a mini is .. SIGHS .. it does require the players to actually pay a bit more attention to instructions. If you are on team one and team one and two are supposed to go to the south and do choke points ..... standing at a door up north is not helping your team andmay result in the trial failing. Quite a few of us now have multiple incarnates and what we are working on is either tier 4s or just accumulating astral and empyrean merits to but stuff at the stores in Ouroborus.... FAILING the trial because you don't feel like paing attention means you just blew an emp and now get to start all over again. Now keep in mind that 4 astrals = 16 threads while 1 empyrean = 18 at the store and you can see why folks don't like the idea of failure.
I have done both the full sized and the min and enjoyed each but I tend to lean toward the mini trials.. I am not sure but I think my rare and very rare drops may be better since I started joining them. Anyway that gives anyone that has no clue an idea of what a MINI is.. so go join one and see for yourself! -
Quote:Well, I forgot to deal with it last night, so I will check all that again today. I am pretty sure my power/control is ok because that is something I looked at before I sent the first petition to get everything else reactivated.
The rent change did evidently happen just after I last stopped playing (took a long break >.>), so I will double check that before I petition. Still would be surprised if its rent though, because wouldnt the teleporters/crafting table shut down as well if that was the problem?
And with those new rates, why do they even bother with upkeep... My base is currently just for me and my alts (though I played a ton back in the day so it does have 8 teleporters), and is mostly just storage racks for passing stuff before you could email items, and I still think it will take me less than 20 minutes in SG mode to earn all the req'd prestige for rent, just seems annoying to have to remember to switch modes every once in a while.
[edit] though I think I am also sitting on about 100k prestige, which should keep my rent floating for a ridiculous amount of time even if i don't bother to earn more....
Yes if its a rent issue everything that takes power to owkr would be shut down.. basically they pull the plug. next step in that is if rent continues to go unpaid they shut down the portal and you simply cant get in until you go pay the rent.
if its not rent and its not power or control .. you may very well have an isolated bug. Hope they fix it for you soon. -
Quote:Getting in during the final mission of the STF is easy. Just run over before the 4th AV dies. You either live or faceplant if he notices you. Would only impact a master run since 99% of teams drop the flyer before they attack the towers.
This is the one bomb I really don't mind because there is no risk to the team or or the TF failing.
ITF is doable. but your usually in the background and kinda fuzzy. If you have LOTS of range in Teleport you can drop in next to him but it takes some really great timing. Also very little risk to the team because its the romi in the cutscene is not the AV spawn you fight. He despawns/respawns with the nictus about 5-10 sec after the cut. If you are fast enough you can pull the cut scene Romi instead of the replacement. He will abandon all the nictus where they stand and cannot use them to rez. This may sound great but it means you Have to go kill them one at a time and that is often harder than dropping Romi.
LGTF is doable the same way and the Honoree portion is very easy.
Yeah James but once again you are describing a situation where ONE player simply has to FUNNY at the expense of his or her team. Granted with +1 level shifts and 4 incarnate powers taking out Mako, Black Scorpion, Sciricco, and Ghost Widow to spawn Recluse is no where near the task it once was but your team is engaged in a battle with an AV but instead of helping them you (not you personally just U as example) are off waiting to pose in a cut scene. I fail to see how that is being a good team mate. Don't get me wrong I play the game to have fun and love to joke and kid before, during and after a mission but not when doing it would or could mean team mates would suffer or I might cause a mission to fail.
I think what makes posing with Maurader, in particular, very disturbing to players is that its insulting in a way. Squishies as we all know can find themselves face down inside the glowie portion of that trial again and again. Its not as bad of your team sticks together, which rarely happens, but even then I have had my controllers, defender and mastermind find themselves taking multple trips to the hospital. Add to that the fact that your on a timer so there is a little pressure to complete before time runs out and everyone knows getting those acids and grenades is vital to success. So if your on the team that struggled, for whatever reason, when it finally ends to have a cut scene flash onto your PC and find 1, 2 or how ever many of your so-called teammate standing behind or even in front of maurader is upsetting. It not only sort of sends a message that being a clown was more important than completing the trial but its almost a taunt like .. "Ha ha losers we finished before you!" Okay personally I never felt that but I am betting some people did and do and that's not a particularly good message to send some one your supposed to be teaming with. I think the one time a cut scene appearance REALLY bothered me, in spite of us succeeding, was when the League Leader specifically broadcast in league chat.. "Team 2 go help team one with the acids" after his team had finished first. Amazingly it at least seemed to me we suddenly had all 16 members in the labs and quickly finished up.... Take a guess at who was posing in the cut scene. The ONLY guy who felt he had better things to do that help his team.. Yeah the league leader. When that trial ended I started a notecard on him, one starred him and put him on ignore so I NEVER, have to deal with him again.
Hey I like to have fun too .. last night after we completed the prisoner pahse of the BAF I was doing my Michael Jackson dance on top of Nightstar's body while we waited for Siege to FINALLY get to us. I joke, I flirt (with people I know lol) and have a great time playing with friends i ahve known for years and players i met 5 minutes ago. But I also realize that not everyone has 10 hours a day or even 10 hours a week to play COH. When its time to do my job so a mission, ANY MISSION, occurs I give it my best so the players I am teaming with get the rewards they are after. Let's face facts jokes may be funny from time to time in game but a mission complete and a reward bonus is what we are all after not ....
TRIAL FAILED MAURADER HAS LEFT THE FACILITY
I read you other post and please don't take this as an attack on you. i saw that you have and would kick players for stuff like that in the lambda.. just used your post to send a message to anyone that reads this. -
A.. yes I definately would and to answer the question you posed to someone else here is wht.
I was on a lambda where a Mastermind just out and out refused to even help his OWN team out with acids let alone helping mine with the grenades. He stood AT the gate the entire time waiting to pose in the cut scene. The reason i know is because on 2 occasions my Defender had to run past his lazy but to get back inside and TRY to help
When confronted by several members of BOTH teams his excuse was he was too squishy and would just die anyway.. Now keep in mind this was after I had run BACK from the hospital past him twice. So its okay if I die repeatedly helping my team but its a bother for him.
Now for the part that got him probably one starred by about 15 players including me. Despite him we managed to acquire all 10 acids and nades and off course there he was along with his pets in the cut scene with Maurader. We all teleported back to the entrance and then.. TRIAL FAILED MAURADER HAS LEFT THE FACILITY. The idiot either aggroed the AV himself or one of his pets did and maurader chased them out the front gate.. trial over.
Now you ask why would i kick someone for being in that scene before i knew if the trial would succeed of fail.. because i saw it fail due to someone being in it.
But wait I have more for you. Another lambda and the acid team is doing great ..eventually gets all 10 but the grenade team is filled with nothing but squishies and we run out of time with exactly 2 grenades. Okay still no huge deal YET. we just need to hit the weapons delivery points and pick up some more grenades before we attack the av.
I even warn people in league chat.. dont aggro the AV. Unforntunately 5 members of team 1 decided grenades were not as important as posing with Maurader and i no sooner got that warning out than all the adds and the AV were attacking us as we stood there in front of the facility. Care to take a wild guess who aggroed them.. our illustrious returning film stars. Multiple deaths began to occur and we were so busy fighting to survive no one could even get to the portals to stop the flow of adds. eventually it just got overwhelming and we couldn't stay alive long enough to even regroup.. people started quitting and the trail failed. So again.. HOW do you know what those idiots posing in that scene will cause to happen. You don't and more and more leaders and players are to the point where even if it means the trial fails and we start all over its time to send a message. You pose in that cut scene instead of helping your team mates and you are kicked.. not after the trial DURING it. period
Now for B.. No I have never had to or even ever felt there might be a need to kick anyone from a Task Force. But let's see.. the ITF.. cut scene triggers before anyone could possible get near Romulus. STF .. same thing no one is getting into the picture with Recluse or Aeon.. about the only scene in that where anyone could is the first mission posing with Sands. unless you weer after a master of I see no way that could cause failure. Lady Grey has a few cut scenes but again the trigger for them makes it impossible for anyone to actually be in the scene or at least i have never seen it... I suppose in the mission where we rescue Infernia some jerk could wait around where the Av spawned and be in that.. but again it wouldn't cause the mission or the TF to fail.
Its just not the same thing. And I have served as a team leader now on a number of trials and believe me after my experiences if i caught one of MY team in that cut scene the league leader wouldn't have to kick because IF i can i would. -
Okay so it's been a while now and between the hordes of Task Forces we did to open and slot Alpha and now the hundreds of trials to open ans lot Judgement, Lore, Interface and Destiny I was curious.. How many 50 (+) levels do you have and how many have all teir 3s or tier 4s in every slot.
So I'll start
Operative Tessa SoA Crab 50 (+3) A - t4, J - t4, L - t3, I - t3, D - t3
Icee Hottee Blaster 50 (+3) A - t4, J - t3, L - t3, I - t3, D - t3
T-Bot0327 MM 50 (+3) A - t4, J - t4, L - t3, I - t3, D - t3
Agent O SoA W 50 (+3) A - t4, J - t3, L - t3, I - t3, D - t3
Lorien Sindenari Blaster 50 (+3) A - t4, J - t4, L - t3, I - t3, D - t3
Ragin Reb Tank 50 (+3) A - t4, J - t3, L - t3, I - t3, D - t3
Avenger 003 Controller 50 (+3) A - t4, J - t3, L - t3, I - t3, D - t3
Avenger 006 Blaster 50 (+3) A - t4, J - t3, L - t3, I - t3, D - t3
Taxibot Tandar Controller 50 (+3) A - t4, J - t3, L - t3, I - t3, D - t3
Def Bot One Defender 50 (+3) A - t4, J - t3, L - t3, I - t3, D - t3
Tia Anker Tank 50 (+3) A - t3, J - t3, L - t3, I - t3, D - t3
Now of all of these only one, Tia Anker had serious assists.. Astral merits were used to purchase an Alpha slot for her and 150 threads from vouchers were used to open all of her other powers. I am currently contemplating my 12th incarnate and it will probably be one of my Scrappers.
So.. who are your incarnates and what level are their powers. Oh and in case you didn't pick up on the 'code" A = Alpha, J = Judgement, L = .. you get the idea lol -
Quote:Croatoa: Redcaps, Tuatha de Dannen, Fir Bolg, The Cabal
Shadow Shard: Rularuu
Praetoria: Eh you get the point.
Hey Forbin you left a few out
RWZ.. OKAY while other groups exist there if we didn''t have a mothership and RIKTI it wouldn't exist
How about STRIGA.... the Family runs around the docks along with the Warriors but the majority of the entire island is a Council base and it has no less than 2 task forces (Moonfire and Hess that originate there and are both filled with .. you guessed it Council). okay so the Skyraiders hold a small chuck and the Banished pantheon wander around in the graveyard.. The Council is always attacking the Skyraider base and they roam the same graveyards.. the place is filled with them.
Leave us not forget the Hive and the Abyss.. when was the last time you ran into anything there but DE. -
Just to be sure check your power consumption as well. could it be you are just a little over the maximum your generator will crank out... If so some systems may shut down simply because you don't have the power to run them. Also do the same check with your control.. I can't recall if a vault even needs any but if your over your limit there stuff stops working as well.

Quote:LOL I have a similar tale. Def Bot was my first Rad/Rad and I created her because from former battles I knew they wee great against GMs and I love a good giant monster battle. An announcement showed up on the badge channel that Babbage would be coming out in Skyway in a few minutes (Synapse TF of course) so i rushed to get there. As soon as I arrived I advertised to see if anyone was forming a team.. there were two but for some reason neither seemed to feel a need for my services.Reminds me of the time I was doing the blueside respec (the Sky Raider one) on my Rad/Rad. She was my first 50 and this was when I was leveling her so it was shortly after EU launch.
We got into the reactor building and after a wipe or two at the first doorway, the leader who was also the tank told me to "stop using that green s**t and just heal!" I tried to explain that the "green s**t" was what was keeping us alive a lot longer than my crappy AoE heal but he was having none of it (I just love how there's always someone in an MMO who knows how to play your character better than you do, despite having never played those powersets).
So I dutifully stopped debuffing or blasting and just spammed my heal. And of course the team wiped in about 10 seconds flat as I was the only support character on the team. Finally after a few of these wipes I asked if I should start using the "green s**t" again and got a grudging "Fine" from the leader. I don't know if we actually completed the trial (but I rather doubt it) but if nothing else, at least 7 people on Defiant got an object lesson in the power of Rad's debuffs that day.
In broadcast I could here the two teams, comprised mainly of tanks and scarppers I think, trying to coordinate and complaining that their attacks didn't seem to be doing much damage. I decided to find the battle and debuff the beast. I threw both my debuffs on Babbage and then started to attack (each of my attacks obviously causing more debuff). moments later AMAZINGLY Babbage was dead. As I flew away I could hear the two teams congratulating one another "WE ROCK!" and I laughed wondering if they'd have every finished or just given up if the lowly little defender no one wanted hadn't shown up.DefBot went on to successfully help defeat every GM blueside and added in the defeat of countless AVs. All thanks to that green S%$t.

Okay lets see where to start on this...
1. Despite the rant the triage beacon from the traps set is NOT useless on a Keyes trial. Yes it doesn't move but I have been on trials where the beacon was set down near a computer terminal and healed the players while they cleared the IDT and then waited, with pulses going off, for the Tank to bring AM so they could use their glowies. Is it as useful as other heals no but on a trial where ANY heal is beneficial not using it simply because it isn't mobile is not a good excuse
2. Twilight Grasp does require at least one enemy to work but it does absolutely no damage. What it does do is debuff that enemy and heals your team mates. It does make it easier to do damage to your enemy but it can hardly be classified as an attack.
3. I think it was Zombie Man that clarified this but I'll chime in as well. The pulses that damage you during a Keyes trial are not affected by any thing else except the health of Anti-Matter. They go off about every 30 seconds no matter what anyone does during the trial until all three reactors are secured and then it stops. The only way to alter the pulse is to damage Anti-matter and then instead of 50-60% of your health being affected it gets worse.
Now I have done a lot of trials, all three types, and while not every leader is the smartest kid on the block .. the complete lack of many players to follow even the simpliest of instructions has made me question the overall IQ of some players.
a. Players on Lambda that have basically 1 thing to remember. Which team they are on and where it is going during the collection phase. Heck if you can't remember either of those try this... as soon as the Security Guard falls click on your team leader and follow him/her to which ever door they head towards. I have been on lambdas where 12 or more team mates were doing acid and 4 or less of us were in the warehouse after grenades.. you remember grenades..those things we use to pacify Maurader so he actually takes damage when we attack him.
b. Along the same line on the BAF Team 1 and 2 South choke points and team 3 North. And moments later the team leader from 3 is calling out to specific players to get them to the right pathway. This is a one -- 1, This is a two... 2, and this is a three .. 3. As before if you can't tell them apart the person at the top of your team list is your leader.. click on him and go where he goes. /e rolls eyes
c. Do not attack the AV until all the doors are closed on Lambda. And of course seconds later Maurader and every IDT troop on the map is suddenly in your face. Of course a part of this problem is the ever present need for players to BOMB the cut scene and then drag everything back as they try to rejoin the rest of the team that was acually doing their job and collecting acids and grenades.
d. Do not attack Anti-matter. Now a little bit of this not happening is acceptable... I have been on Keyes trials where we were battling the ADDs at a terminal and the tank pull AM in so we could activate it. In the heat of battle an AoE doesn't care what it hits it just hits so if Anti-matter is in range OPPS. But I have been on trials where by reactor 2 he was down to 70 percent.. that is an aweful lot of opps
e. Ahhh yes on the BAF... please don't attack Siege until the tank pulls him close to Nightstar's body. So as I stand there watching half the dang league is in the grass shooting at him and his ADDs. I guess they don't think the Tank can manage to taunt him into place without their help. Of course they also don't seem to be aware that every time he is attacked he stops to retaliate and we all know how slow he runs to begin with.
f. Team 3, during the BAF, is on ADDS. And then as my health drops rapidly realize about two dozen or more 9CU and MK1 vickies are crawling up my back because absolutely no one is attacking the hordes of growing adds. I have actually seen this result in trials failing. For reference purposes see comment b concerning what the numbers one, two and three look like.
Now I am not saying there aren't people out there that have no clue what a Defender is for or how to use them. I was playing them years ago when everyone assumed defender = healbot and it took a lot of time to educate people that we also buff, debuff and have actual attacks .. some of which actually add to the overall debuff we can provide (Rad/Rad for example). telling a Defender not to attack is about the stupidist thing any player can do and here is why.....
Defenders Dark Blast .. every single attack has an inherent -to hit attached which allows everyones attacks to do more damage
Radiation Blast .. every attack has a - DEF attached again making it easier to damage enemies
Electric Blast .. all attacks have a -Recovery attached so eventually any affected enemy has no end left.. no end means no way to fire off any attack or use any ability to heal.
Ice Blast .. all attack have a -speed attached
PSI blast .. three attack have a -Recharge so enemies attacks dont recharge as fast and cant be used a soften , one puts enemies to sleep and two others disorients
Sonic Blast .. all powers have a -Res so all enemies resist damage at a lower rate.
Dual Pistol .. with ammo changes every single attack can cause -speed, or -Dam debuffs.
All that leaves is Archery and Assault Rifle as the only two attack powers that don't do anything but cause DAMAGE(okay thats not quite true AR has knockback but that doesnt really debuff anything)And even with those the last time I checked the idea was to damage the enemy until they fell down and stopped trying to damage you. While a defenders damage may not come close to matching a Blasters ANY damage is good damage. Even when I am playing my Empaths I fire off attacks as fast and as often as possible I refer to it as preventative medicine.. if all the bad guys are dead then they cant cause any damage I need to heal. I have blatantly ignored leaders that told me to "just heal" and have never once been kicked off a team. And if it ever does occur rest assured that leader is getting one star as a rating and put on ignore so I never have to deal with him or her again. -
Quote:I just want a way of being able to earn Astral Merits and Empyrean Merits without having to do an iTrial.
At the moment I'm doing the WST (on one character only as it's the only one that the iAbilities would actually fit concept wise) and upgrading the Notice of the Well to 40 Threads, which I then use to either unlock iXP or make components to go in my unlocked Incarnate Abilities.
The only thing that I can't currently do is purchase Auras or Emotes as I can't get Astral Merits or Empyrean Merits from anything other than iTrials, which I am not doing. I just want a way to change either Villain/Hero Merits, Merit Rewards (from completing story arcs etc) or something to get Astral Merits. Empyrean Merits could stay behind the iTrials to make the armour more special, but I don't see why auras and emotes have to be locked behind end-game content that I have no wish to do.
I don't see a reason why you shouldn't have access to both. Let's keep in mind we are not JUST talking some costume pieces and emote here. You can buy rare recipes with Astrals and very rares (purples) with Empyreans. Not that there are not other ways to obtain these in game, including A merits, but again going back to the You pay the same amount of cash as everyone else arguement... they all have access to those same methods but simply because they (including me) are willing to do multiple trials they get a method to buy them that you don't.
We just keep adding more and more disfucntional forms of currency into this game ..
Influnece/infamy/information - just about anything
Reward merits - salvage, recipes (including rares) and inspirations Hero/Villain merits - rare and very rare recipes
AE Tickets - salvage, recipes (including rares), enhancements and inspirations
Pretsige - only good for base building and paying rent
and now Astral and Empyrean merits rare and very rare recipes along with costume pieces, aura and emotes
And lets not forget that as of July 1st we are building VIP points that can be used in the new in game stores to even but bits and pieced of booster packs. Some of these work together to an extent and others are useless if you are short in some other area. At this point we aren't even sure if when the next batch of imcarnate powers arrives we won't need to start collecting a whole batch of new components and something completely different that threads or shards. So far I am keeping up but I play with some 7 year VETS that had to have me explain how it all works to them LOL I am still working on year 6. -
Quote:*bluntness*
Pretty bad concept and design. Can you imagine how difficult it would be to not make this look dumb and dorky?
How would [Climb] be helpful? [Rope Burn]? Really did you run out of ideas? Jump Rope? Really?? I can go to youtube to watch some one jump rope. How in the world would [Hang Him] work? and do you realize how quickly you would get lynched by the feminists by implying that only Male mobs can be hung.
Looks like an attempt to make a Rope Control set, not a Blaster's Manipulation set. Most of the powers would do little to no damage. How would this be good for a Blaster... who is supposed to do damage.
*like a mother*
Well Timmy, I think if you really believe this is a good idea, I want you to believe as hard as you can. Because only through believing will you be able to achieve your dreams.
Bluntness part two
I am not even sure what all would be involved in coding this set so it works. Now Plant control works because it simply wraps around the body and squeezes but you are talking physicaly binding arms and legs.
Second is the whole Polically correct, dear G O D don't cost us our rating, issue. You have one power that will hang an enemy by the neck... this generally results in death by asphyxiation and no one ever really dies in the COH universe we defeat them! period Then of course you have a power called bondage.. I can just hear the parents screaming bloody murder over that one.
Frankly between the issues I see trying to write code for this .. since some one else already mentioned they had issues just making the lash in Demon Summoning work and the uproar some of you powers names and described features will cause I don't ever see this happening -
I figured I'd expand a bit on my original post here. now i am sure if they read this thread there will be some die hard players beating their swords against their shield and bellowing toward the sky..
"NO! NO! These are incarnate powers meant to make us God Like that would make it easy."
Now boys take a deep breath and calm the heck down. It's already gotten easy or at least easier. I took an 5 Astrals and bought an Alpha slot for Tia Anker, my second incarnate tank, and then she claimed a ton of thread vouchers and bought IXP. Without ever getting near a trial she had all 5 incarnates open. Then between doing a few trials herself and claiming more threads she got all her powers to tier 2. As of today she did a Keyes Trial, BAF and finished with a Lambda. All her powers are at tier 3 and she is working on tier 4 for her Alpha.
How did she accomplish it so fast.. simple I have 10 other incarnates that are already at tier 3 or 4 on all powers and they converted ever Empyrean and Astral they earned into Thread vouchers. So the Devs have already come up with a way to make getting your characters the new powers easier. Now as time went on I also started slowly using a few Astrals here and there to buy some of the costume pieces and every single character I own, incarnate or not, shared in those rewards. You tell me how my idea is any different than what the devs have already given us. What it does is allows players that 1) can't do the trials due to the lag and PC issues OR 2) players that hate the trial concept and simple don't want to use it a method to still benefit from the new powers.
Now I have seen posts in other threads where people claim.. "Well if they are not doing the trials why do they need those powers anyway!" Well the short answer is they don't. Players were successfully completing the STF, LRSF, Kahn TF, Baraccuda SF, ITF and LGFT long before Alpha, Judgement, interface, Destiny or Lore existed but they do now and they allow players to do one of two things:
1. Breeze through 45-50 level TF/SF and truly feel like demi-gods
OR
2. increase the difficulty to +4 and still enjoy the TF/SF along with the challenge.
Why shouldn't they have access to everything... they pay the same amount of cash each month we do. Personally I enjoy the trials but using the new system saved me a ton of time trying to earn IXP since they made it even more of a grind earning it by doing trials. But even I get to a point where I simply say NO MORE and go play one of my lower levels for as much as a week to break the constant 1-2-3 rinse and repeat we currently have.
I think this will make it possible to open up more characters to incarnate powers and gives players other, legitimate, options for opening them without the trials.. (casue I am sorry takes months and hundreds of millions in INF to accomplish what I can do in days or at most a week hardly seems fair). As mentioned before I still think the game needs an incarnate contact or two that will allow players to solo or form smaller teams (2-8 members max) and earn thread and components. It offers every player an alternantive to doing the same 3 things over and over and over. -
Quote:I've no idea if this has been suggested elsewhere, if it has I apologise.
It's probably a crazy idea, but I'd love to be able to use my Hero/Villain Merits to obtain Astral Merits. Not sure how many H/V Merits it would take to hand in to get an Astral, but it would at least be a way for the solo and non-iTrial player to be able to eventually afford to get a new aura or emote.
I made a small suggestion a while ago along these lines. In Ouroborus it is possible to convert Astral merits into Reward merits. Why can't we do the same thing the other way.... so players could show up at the Astral vendor and cash in reward merits to make Astrals or even make it an option available at the Reward merits vendors scattered throughout the game.
1. this would allow any 50 level to use merits earned from completing any TF, Trial (ones besides the incarnates), or story arch into Astrals which can then be used to open the Alpha Slot and or buy vouchers for threads.
2. It would stir new interest in players doing any and all Task forces, Strike forces and trials because the merits they earn could be used to get new powers, costume pieces, emotes, etc.
3. It would stir new interest in the WST. Lets face it now that everything can be accomplished using threads not shards a lot less people are doing the WST at least on Virtue where I play and we are one of the most active servers
4. Until some Dev gets around to finally giving us Incarnate contacts so players can solo or make small teams to earn threads and components .. it would give players not interested in doing the trials, or unable to do to lag/PC issues a way to actually gain the new incarnate powers and even access the costumes and such available using astrals.
5. Since rewards merits are available even by doing Flashbacks and by something as simple as exploring zones and getting the accolade for finding all 8 of the available badges it opens up lots of ways to advance our characters through things that already exist in game.
Since I made that suggestion I have been thinking and feel like adding to it...
At present we can cash in Astral merits or Empyrean merits for Threads. That's great and I have used this method to actuall start out a new incarnate. 5 Astrals opened the Alpha slot and 150 threads opened all of the others.. then I was able to concentrate on simply slotting not earning IXP.
Okay but I also have 10 incarnates that have tier 3 or 4 enhancers in every power and as I continue to play them are accumulating a pile of threads. Sure I can hold onto these and HOPE when the next 5 powers emerge we don't wind up with a THIRD system of stuff required to open and slot them.. PLEASE don't to that again Devs. But another idea would be to allow us to convert threads into Astrals and Empyreans that we can then use to buy the costume pieces. emotes, etc available.
Now currently an Astral will buy you 4 threads and an Empyrean will buy you 18. I don't think anyone would be too upset if say 5 threads bought an Astral and say 20 or even 25 bought a Empyrean. Here is what that would allow a player to accomplish
At best a character can earn 3 Empyreans a day by doing each of the three trials available. So if a costume piece requires 10 emps he has to do that 3+ days in order to buy it. However IF he plays multiple characters in the same day there is no reason he can't earn 10 or more Emps. The problem is they are scattered between several characters and you can't email or trade an emp or astral even to yourself. However you can convert them to thread vouchers so one character keeps its Emps and the others covert to threads which the first character then claims.
Now that character purchases emps with the threads he got through the mail and buys the costume piece.. since those pieces are account wide every one of his characters now has access to that piece and it took less than 33.3% of the time.
I realize these "rewards" are supposed to take a certain amount of effort but if I logged 4 different characters on in ONE day and ran all 3 trials with each .. earning 12 Emp merits in the process how is that NOT an effort! There are plenty of players out there that wouldn't have the time to come close to doing that many trials in a single day so we may have cut their wait time down from a MONTH to a week or less with this idea. Sounds like we'd make a lot of people happy and in business isn't keeping the customer HAPPY supposed to bea good idea. LOL
It's still not a defined solo path and in my opinion we do need some Incarnate contacts, similar to Mendors, that would allow players to solo or form small 2-8 man teams and earn threads and components. It allows players that have no desire or no ability to participate in trials a way to enjoy the incarnate system and provides even those that do the trials a way to continue to progress but take a break from the constant grind of doing the same 2-3 things over and over and over. -
Quote:Here's an anime inspired Judgement.
Step 1:
Spawn a big PBAoE circular "rune circle" (for lack of a better term) that has a Bright color palette. Note that for the purposes of this animation, even the Vanguard Sigil (scaled up) would qualify.
Step 2:
Within the PBAoE "rune circle" ... a variety of swords come vertically up out of the "rune circle" hilt first until the blade point(s) clear the ground.
Step 3:
All blades, in unison, re-orient/pivot from a floating, point down, through 90 degrees to be floating parallel to the ground plane (in this context, that would be the PBAoE "rune circle") with all blades aimed downrange.
Step 4:
All blades, launch/fire themselves downrange at high speed as projectiles in stages.
Game Mechanics:
Basically a "spawn flying swords" styled Cone Attack. Compared to other Judgements, this one could do Lethal Damage (yes, I know, highly resisted) and deal damage to targets in a (relatively, for Judgements) narrow cone ... of say ... 10 degrees. The difference is that the range on the Cone would have greater range ... of 150 ft. Essentially a "narrow cone snipe" styled Judgement, which would deal damage as a DoT of multiple hits to each target over a few seconds (think Rain of Arrows, but with Swords, fired horizontally, rather than Arrows falling from the sky).
So basically a modified version of the flying swords we see Battle maiden use against us on the Apex. I suppose a lot of people would enjoy that but honestly I always felt those swords in Apex were sort of stupid looking. I commented several times that they look like they'd be more at home in a Harry Potter MMO. -
I like this .. a large scale version of either carrion creepers or vines. It pops up beneath the enemies feet and entwines itself around them crushing them and holding them helpless.

Quote:With all of the past changes to the game having people complain that they'd kill an AT, I'm amazed we have any ATs left. I mean, Blasters, Tankers, Defenders, Controllers, Scrappers, Brutes, Stalkers, Corruptors, and the poor Khelds should all be dead by now, right?
Oh wait, they're not? Hmmm...must be some sort of reason for that.
Sorry for the snark, OP, but there's been a lot of AT-doom threads recently for some reason. No, powerset proliferation will not kill Defenders. They will still have the best buff/debuff values out there, and get their buff/debuff powers earlier. They'll still be around after this round of proliferation.
You're right Aett
Let's see GR was supposed to allow Brutes to be heroes so WHY on earth would anyone want to play a Tank or a Scrapper anymore.
Same thing with Dominators/Corruptors obviously replacing the need to have Defenders or Controllers
Now, in recent posts issue 21 will remove the need for Defenders and Blasters and during those threads PBs have been referred to as the number 1 worthless AT out there...
So let's just scrap all the hero side ATs except Warshades and play nothing BUT COV arche types.
Oh wait.. now that destiny and interface have made it possible for any AT to buff, debuff, and even heal why do we need defenders, controllers, dominators or corruptors... hmm everyone has a mini nuke now thanks to judgement and pets thanks to lore so we really don't need Masterminds either. Years ago it was confirmed that Stalkers are useless outside of PVP and now they nerfed that. Okay its official.. Lord Recluse wins we do away with everything but Crab Spiders, Bane Spiders, and Widows
Okay here is the deal.. we eliminate all the worthless ATs and just play... hmmmm PACMANOkay now by a show of hands how many people can tell I find all the "This AT is doomed threads" a) hysterical and b) rediculous
-
Quote:Okay not to discourage you but LOL the one thing I didn't mention was the one individual from the other team that WAS in the cut scene with Maurader. HOWEVER... things are changing as more and more leaders are tired of exactly what you are referring to happening. I have been on Lambdas where the league leader made in very clear when giving out the assignments. "If one team finishes before the other.. head to the other side to help. I see anyone Bombing the cut Scene I will kick you!" Amazingly the threat of getting to the fianl phase and then being kicked which means doing it all over again on another team if you want your daily Empyrean has cut down on the discoing behind the AV a lot.Not to hijack the thread or anything, but I've been on a series of Lambda where dancing during the Marauder cutscene is the 'in' thing to do, so there's always a bunch of people doing it.
I'd say, more then half the time, someone will aggro him and either drag him out (intentionally or not) or bring him to the league.
It's been putting me off from doing some recently, but with the OP's post, I might have regained enough faith to run a few...
Also it was only 1 team member and like I said at one point both teams had 9 glowies located and acids/nades collected so out little disco queen was not out ther very long and she was in stealth mode so until WE attacked her moment of "GLORY" didn't hurt us. I'd still prefer that no one do that but in this case things went so well.. who cared! -
I can't believe this flame war is still going on. Look this same sort of BS, sorry but that is what it is, has been going on in one form or another since they announced Going Rogue was going to make it possible to switch sides. And I quote (sort of):
With GR and side switching why would anyone play a TANKER when they can play a Brute
With GR side switching why would anyone play a Scrapper when they can play a Brute.
With GR will anyone even play Defenders again now that they can be Dominators of Corruptors
Pardon the response but YADA YADA YADA YADA
Maybe my PROBLEM is I like to play the game not spend hours checking combat logs and adding up columns of numbers to determine exactly how much damage any one of my characters is doing. I PLAY them and if I am having fun and they are doing well then in my mind they are fine.
We have, currently since who knows what the future may hold, 14 different ATs we can play and there is nothing wrong with any of them. Some required some tweeking.. Stalkers are much better now that they have been buffed than when I first tried them years ago as an example.
For pure damage nothing outshines a Blaster. The question of why would I want want on my team when a scrapper or Brute requires less attention from team mates is irrelivant. Maybe if more people learned what it means to be part of an actual TEAM they'd understand.... Some of the insanity I have witnessed on Lambda and BAF trials shows that far too many seem to think they can ignore instructions and just do whatever the heck they please and then can't imagine why the trial failed. Okay a Blaster doesn't have defense just pure damage.. well gee we have buffer/healer ATs out there and now almost everyone can BUFF and DEBUFF with their incarnate powers so .... part of your JOB on the team is to help keep your team mates alive. I have a BLASTER that took rebirth and once every 2-3 minutes I will make sure I am in position to benefit as many of my league mates as possible and hit the button then watch 750 points of heal spring up above everyone, including my own character's, head. I am not even a traditional Support type AT and I am still willing to do what i can to help keep my team healthy and in the fight.
I have watched Tanks or Brutes die on BAF runs trying to taunt NS or Siege into position and I move forward and with one long range snipe she comes running while they are on their way back from the hospital. That's called picking up the slack and helping the team.
Instead of arguing back and forth for 11 or more pages on if this AT or that AT is worth playing .. maybe we should try spending some time trying to educate players how to actually be a productive member of a team. When they learn how to do that stuff like this happens more often:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=265813 -
So last night I pulled out my Main/Badger Operative Tessa and did a couple of trials. She has long ago gotten all of her 5 incarnates to 3 or 4 and I have been busy with the other 10 I currently play. The BAF she joined went well . nothing spectacular just your normal run. Then she joined a Lambda.
Phase one went by so fast it was almost rediculous. The mobs dropped in front of us and the turrents went down without a hitch. As an indication of what might happen later even the Security guard dropped fast and never had a chance to even heal itself.
Phase two was amazing.. at one point both team 1 and 2 had found 9 of the glowies. I was on team 2 and team 1 did finish slightly faster than us and came by to help with the last grenade. OH did I mention that we got the extra Astral for taking out a weapons cache and a containment pod at the same time.. well we did.
On to phase three and OMG people are actually aware they had acids and are closing portal.. leaving just the one open like the league leader asked! After buffing up we launched into the ADDs and Maurader as they assembled at the front gate. Now this is the only thing that went wrong during the entire trial... we wiped out all of the ADDs getting to 21/30 and when I looked up to check that total I noticed Maurader was down to like 6% health after we'd used exactly 1 pacifcation grenade. The poor guy never once got to use his patented catch phrase "On the ground again" because seconds later he was dead (err defeated). So our only ERROR was killing off the AV so fast we missed the added Astral for defeating 30 IDT troops. To be honest we were all so excited at the massive firepower we had just displayed no one seemed to care.
So to recap.. no one died, not even once. Everyone went where they were supposed to go and did what they were supposed to do. Everyone followed instructions and knew how to count to 2 and recongnize the numbers (LOL). And when the final battle occurred we made the So-called BAD-BOY Praetor look like a 2 level Hellion being attacked by a 50 level. If I were that league leader I think I'd have friended every person on that team so I can find them again -
Quote:My suggestion then would be to send a PM to The Television or Alpha Wolf with all of the included steps to reproduce the issue. Be as explicit as possible with every step of the process including, but not limited to, where are you zoning from, where are you zoning to, what team number you are on, are you the team leader, are you the league leader, were the pets summoned in the zone you are in when you enter Lambda or were they summoned in a different zone, etc. The more explicit the steps, the better the chance of finding exact methods of duplicating it and finding a cause for it.
If they can duplicate the issue reliably they can then start trying to find what causes it.
We had a problem a while back that seemed easy for players to experience but it took a certain set of steps to be able to duplicate it and once some players found the steps to reproduce it EVERY TIME, they were able to find the cause and correct it.
At the same time, we had several players insisting that it was easily duplicated using other methods, but even other players couldn't always reproduce it using their steps.
EDIT: Be sure to include information such as "have you been to WW/BM", "have you opened any store interface (origin stores, FP Stores, Ghost Falcon store, RWZ store, etc", "what contact dialogs have you opened", "have you opened the enhancement window, Incarnate powers interface, etc", "have you spoken to a Merit Vendor", "have you spoken to Null the Gull or a Difficulty contact", "have you spoken to a tailor", etc. This may seem like I'm just tossing out arbitrary unrelated items, but surprisingly, one or more of these was the key to resolving the previous bug that was difficult to identify.
I'm afraid the problem is Tex that I seriously doubt any MM has a clue what causes it. Like I said I can run multiple missions, on teams or solo, and everything is fine and then at some point I realize my minions are now babysitting the front door. Fortunately this has happened to me often enough over the years that I am conditioned to check as soon as I enter and IF they don't follow me I /pet_release and resummon.
As to some common demoninator.. I cant think of one. There is no particular enemy group I face that causes it
There is no particular map type.. I have seen it occur in caves, warehouses, office buildings, even outdoor instnace missions (including the Incarnate trials). Heck I have even had it occur AFTER I left a mission. Level up and hit exit .. head off to the trainer and realize my minions are all still sitting back and the door of the mission i just completed.
It has nothing to do with travel of any sort. I have had it happen when I was on the 5th or 6th mission in the exact same zone so we can't link it to the use of the trains, ferry, Ouro portal or any other means of zoing.
At time it just seems like there is a tiny little gremlin in the server that decides.. "Well that MM has been having way too much fun. Let's lock his pets at the front door." This isn't a new issue to be honest I can;t recall exactly how long it has gone on with no solution short of that slash command. Frankly I am a paying customer, and plan to continue as a VIP,after Freedom starts. IF the tech team needs data on why a particular bug is occurring then maybe someone on TECH TEAM should create a mastermind and play it for a while so they see the bug for themselves. I realize that's probably never going to happen ... the economy isn't good enough to support having someone on staff to just PLAY the game day in day out or they wouldn't need us for BETA testing. But I really have no idea what is making it happen and no idea WHAT to look for as possible reasons for it. Add in the fact that I play the game to have fun and don't keep a note pad and pencil handy so I can LOG everything I do on every character day in and day out. The chances I will remember some small intimate detail that may be causing this to happen are very slim. It just seems unfair somehow that after all this time they seem quite happy with the only fix being.. delete all pets and resummon. -
Quote:/SIGNEDThe thing that would revive redside for me would be to make the contact chain work more like goldside. Stop making me do a mayhem mission just to get a new contact. If I want to perform some villainy, just let me walk up to a contact and start some evil.
Also, more contacts like Peter Themari could help.
This is one area where I really wish the devs would do SOMETHING to improve the situation. Yes I know hero side I can do a safeguard and add new contacts but beginning at level 2 on hero side, if you went through Outbreak, you get a contact just for arriving... now at that point red side is the same Burke/Kalinda but when you reach level 5 hero side your contact introduces you to another contact in KR. Run a few missions for that contact and they give you another.. Before long you can have all 5 of the Origin related contacts with or without ever doing a safeguard mission. And after that at every new level range you can go back and be introduced to the next contact for that origin by the one you just out leveled. Sure there are some you open up other ways but from as early as level 6 or 7 all the way to level 50 you can always have at least 5 contacts to get missions from once you open them up.. NOT villain side.
Only a few contact introduce you to anyone and half of those require you to defeat x or y to be introduced to them. Now don't get me wrong I don't mind mayhem missions .. unless the safeguards meeting all of the requirements and earning all the badges in a mayhem can add up to an accolade with powers.. hero side the accolade is pretty much just PRETTY and doesn't do a thing. Not much of a reward for all those banks I kept from being robbed, fires I put out, neighborhoods I kept from being blown up and PPD I rescued.
Now I will say this .. Red side contacts When I get a new red side contact I can walk up to him/her for the very first time and they are happy to sell me any type on inspiration I may need. If I never do a single one of their missions they still will sell me stuff so I can complete someone else's missions. Hero Side... Some of them don't give out their phone number until you practically finish their arc and usually until you do at least 2-3 missions they won't sell you 5 of the 8 types of inspirations. So let's see first i had to prove myself to Sam Pierce in KR before he'd sell me stuff or give me his cell phine number now I am here in Steel Canyon chatting with Kyle Peck who I was introduced to by Sam. Sam and I are confidants now and he trusts me but I am right back to square one earning Kyle's respect before he will take my phone calls or help me out and sell, NOT GIVE ME but sell, me inspirations so I stand a decent chance of surviving and completing the mission HE want done. Some how that whole thing seems backwards to me. Considering I am a criminal and dealing with other criminals wouldn't it make sense that the RED side contacts would want some show of competance before they TRUST me. Hero side I am a registered Super Hero and especially if I was just introduced to you by another contact wouldn't you think they'd TRUST the guy that just introduced me to them. If they don't they why are they letting these people send heroes LIKE ME to them in the first place.
just another of COH/COVs little mysteries we may never solve.. but again.. please PLEASE try having some of the red side contacts actually introduce us to new contacts instead of having to run 3 or 4 mayhem missions to get enough contacts to get to the next level. -

For a certain number of Paragon Points per month you can hear all private chats on Virtue as though they were sent in Broadcast.
STEEL! Two problems with this idea
1. half the time the ERP groups don't even bother to go to private conversations so who is going to use up points on something they can get for free in Pocket D on Virtue anyway.
2. If they really did do this and tapped into the juicier tells .. we'd go way beyond the TEEN rating .. do the have on that's similar to the movie's XXX.
Hehehe funny as always -
Quote:Really.... I did a Citadel TF a LONG time ago and when I arrived in Talos I discovered the team consisted of 7 Blasters and 1 Defender (an EMP). t immediate reaction was "Oh my God we are going to spend more time in hospital than on maps." The reality was our damage output was so great we breezed through the thing.. with the help of a very overworked Defender (of course) lolI think the problem here is not that a team without a blaster is unplayable- as you say, no archetype is essential.
Because three Blasters, three Stalkers, or three Peacebringers would be absolutely screwed as a team.
The point isn't that my blaster isn't necessary, the point is that he isn't USEFUL.
Here is my view on the subject at hand.
Scrappers and Brutes survive better and do significant amounts of damage and I actually started here on COH playing a scrapper but what happens when a scrapper fnds himself trapped behind a large group of team mates and can't get at the mobs..... he spends a lot of time trying to jump, hop, skip or whatever to get around and get into range to fight. A Blaster can yawn and chuckle at the back of any pile of team mates and just keep firing away until things are lying on the ground.
My Archery/Ice blaster was able to successfully solo all the way to level 50.... on the trials she now has 2 nukes (Rain of Arrows and Judgement) to cause massive damage to mobs and her AoE attacks along with her secondary powers have made it possible for her to regularly earn rare or very rare reward.
My Dual Pistols Blaster sets her ammo to biological and every single attack does some debuffing along with damage. She actually has three nukes so to speak with Hail of Bullets, Judegement and LRM rocket. Like her sister my Archer she has so many AoE and also has ICE as her secondary that she gets mostly rare and very rare rewar drops on the trials.
And then there is my Fire/Fire/Flame blaster.. my Blapper! Serious amounts of damage and if anything gets near her she lites it on fire and cuts it to pieces with her flame sword attacks. I mentioned ealier that even without judgement she was capable of more than 3000 HP of damamge just running through her attack chain once.. With Ion included she can very quickly deal out over 5000 hp in a short period of time.. and that's without any BUFFS to increase damage output.
TANKS, SCRAPPERS AND BRUTES are the grunts fighting on the front line.. BLASTERS are the artillery chewing up the battle field and everything on it.
There are no usless ATs in this game only players that have no clue or no business playing them. (case in point... EMPs. A good one can benefit any team at any level. The bad ones just make the good ones LOOK bad).
