Quote:I'd like to add a couple to your list if you don't mind...
Give Null the Gull the ability to offer immunity to stealth effects
Like he already gives immunity to other things that are of some annoyance to some players, it would be nice to get protection from potentially undesired stealth effects (but still keep related buffs), for instance so that when somebody is running Shadow Fall or buffing the team with Group Invisibility, the tank can retain full visibility, and hostages don't lose tracking on you. (I know some don't, but some still do :/ )
Give us a /stuck power to use on NPC followers
I'd love to have everyone get a "perma-temp" power called [Snap Out Of It] or [Come With Me If You Want To Live] that when used on an NPC follower (hostage/pet/etc) within maybe 20 feet would act like Recall Ally, allowing us to fix those situations where the prisoner we're leading out has gotten himself stuck on a pipe or is unable to figure out stairs. I also believe it would be cool if the new "tutorial experience" specifically incorporated a situation where it was necessary to use this (maybe you find a stuck hostage in a mission, but before you can get them to follow you, you have to go find and click a glowie that gives you this power, which after using on them will have them follow you out.)
oooo i like both of these. In fact being able to shut off stealth might be one I'd actually visit Null to use. Sorry but I run way too many trials and when a girl spend all her time, well most of it anyway, dodging attacks from 54 levels the LAST thing I want is anything disabling any BUFF my team mates may offer to help keep me alive.
and I definately like the /unstuck been in that situation way too often.. Wondering if there is a way to extend it to any NPC. Just the other day I was doing a tip mission and of course one of the enemy I SPECIFICALLY had to defeat to complete the mission got stuck in a wall. I finished off the entire rest of the mission, went back and tried several different tricks I have used in the past, but my character didn't have any damaging AoEs and I wound up filing a petition and standing around for 5-10 minutes waiting on a GM. Who moved the NPC 2 feet and three attacks later , and about a total of 15 minutes, mission done! maybe a small AoE aura type permanent temp power that allows us to unstick any stuck character.. could save the GMs some work.
Oh and Forbinhehehe Shhhhhh that's supposed to be our secret and you know you like it anyway

Okay I keep thinking about this one every time it occurs but always forget to add it here....
The new option to skip cut scenes is nice but can we PLEASE make it account wide. Look I realize the idea behind the.. if you have seen it once and so has everyone on the team you don't have to watch it again. But I now have 14 different incarnates and plans for more .. in case you haven't figured that out it means I have watched Mother Mayhem and company rattle on at least 14 times (actually I have long since lost track but at one point I estimated I had seen that thing like 200-250 times). By now I THINK I grasp the concept and really don't need it repeated again and again just because I log on a new character an it's HER first trial. Last night I was on with a friend working on getting his first incarnate to all tier 3s and 4s .. now he's seen the cut sceen as well but I think we were on around 9 or 10 BAFs and may have actually gotten to skip watching twice at most.
I realize new people hit 50 all the time and start running trial and I can accept that but like me there are countless players with multiple incarnates .. and having to sit through that scene again for no GOOD reason is silly. Just change the coding, make the exemption account wide and I am betting the amount of times we don't have to watch it goes from 10 to 20% up to 70 or 80%.
I used the BAF as an example but to date I have also run around 6 of my incarnates through the Keyes Island Trial and, of course, because it was a new character .. numbers 2-6 forced my teams to watch Anti-Matter rant on insanely. Like I said I understand you want to make sure every PLAYER gets the opportunity to see them but my characters all belong to ME... they are not the ones watching the cut scene I am.. PLEASE make the change. -
Well apparently I am the same as most I saw. On my SD/SS Tanker I took Cardiac as well. With my free respec when stamina became inherent I went for added defenses so he has combat Jumping and both maneuvers and assault from the leadership pool.. at any given time I can have as many as 7 toggles running and my end is fine plus the 20% increase in resistance is nice.
-
Quote:To add to some of this, I would really like the option to turn off level-50+ SOs from the reward pool.
I can see that .. all my incarnates have nothing but IOs in every slot so they are pretty much useless still I just hop over to a store, usually in the rwz, and sell them off for inf.
If we volunteer to shut off 50+ S0 drops can we get an increase in drops of other kinds.. Shards, threads, recipes, and/or salvage!
Oh and Stone I do like your idea. 100 reward merits = 1 emp and you can only claim 1 per day. That gives players a chance to get emps and still doesn't allow anyone to just speed run like a madman and see just how many they can get in how short a perior of time. Also as I metions 60 Emp = 1 purple so now we are talking almost 2 months to get one.
Oh and keep in mind I just threw some figures out there to get anyone's mind pumping.. if NC Soft wasnt to make the numbers higher its there game LOL I am jkust tossing out ideas I think might make iy more fun for everyone. -
Quote:Emp merits are gated behind time for a reason. If you could convert threads into them with a small as amount as 25 threads, getting purple/pvp recipes would be laughably easy. In short, no, that is a bad idea.
I liked your other suggestions though, for the most part.
I understand your concern but i just checked at the Empyrean store and 1 purple recipe requires 60 Emp merits.... the most any player cab earn in one day is three so a trial fanatic, like myself, would need to save for 20 days to get one.
Now at 25 Reward merits per .. it would require a player to amass a total of 1500 reward merits to earn that same one purple. Now granted there is no limit per day to how many reward merits a person can earn but .. 1500 RMs is still going to require a good bit of play time to assemble..
Pos I and II (a good hour and a half or more) 26 merits
Synape TF (even with stealth 1.5 -2 hours) 58 merits
Sister P TF (with stealth around 1 hour or so) 50 merits
Citadel TF (Stealth and speed under an hour) 40 merits
Manticore (under an hour with speed/stelath) 32 merits
Numina TF (about an hour due to kill alls) 36 merits
STF (80-90 minutes) 37 merits
Dr Kahn (well under an hour) 20 merits
LGFT (around an hout if speed) 37 merits
ITF (about an hour maybe less) 26 merits
Now None of the times are absolute and I KNOW there are speed runners that finish a TF is under 30 minutes but lets use my figures as sort of an average...... so in lets say around 11 or 12 hours of actuall in mission play, not counting time to recruit, a player manages to run all of these once in a day. That player has earned 542 merits and probably hasnt slept or eaten all day. LOL I just listed almost every available TF and as we all know repeating the same one in less than 20-24 hours means less reward merits. It will take 3 VERY VERY long days of constant play for a player to earn enough to even but 1 purple.
I suppose we could up the rate, it was just a starting figure, and make it harder .. perhaps 50 merits = 1 emp or even 75. Now I know what you are getting at.. if they do this players will take advantage but the fact is they do that now constantly to gain everything else they can. And I have to wonder if those "I HAVE TO HAVE EVERYTHING NOW" Types even need this system since they probably already have as many purples as possible on their characters. What I was looking at was the casual player that doesn't have that sort of time to commit and maybe cant do trials do to limits on their pc systems. Being able to buy emps would allow them to purchase some of the costumes, emotes, and auras.. and YES if they were willing to save them up long enough a purple or two. But if a player has 2-3 hours of play time a day and maybe only 4 days a week when they can log in.. It would take a lot longer to BUY enough emps to get on purple than the 20 days a trial players can get them in justy doing 1 keyes, 1 BAF, and 1 Lambda a day.
So how about 100 merits = 1 Emp LOL Thanks for the imput -
Quote:Adding a few new ideas here after 20.5 has gone live...
How about a way people that DON"T like the trials can cash in? I noticed that I can convert an astral into a reward merit so why can't I do the same thing going the other way. Say 5 reward merits = 1 Astral. It would give players that dislike doing the trials at least SOME method to actually earn some threads and obtain the new powers.
I felt the need to expand on this idea a bit more.
If this occurred it would allow players that can't (do to PC limitations) or don't want to do the trials a way to earn threads and eventually slot all the incarnate powers. It's a slightly faster way that the horrid means they have available now.. slowly converting shards to threads and at a cost of 1 million INF per 10 threads. There are a lot of players on the forums begging for some method, other than trials, to solo or form smaller teams and still gain powers.. this would allow them to run any TF at any level, do tips missions, run Time Travel missions, compete arcs or even collect exploration badges etc and earn merits they can then convert into astrals and use.
along the same lines I thought about this the other night..
We can break astral and emptrean merits down into threads... why can't we but merits with threads. Like many players I have numerous incarnates that have all of their powers slotted and are just collecting threads, components and merits when they play. Now the stuff in the new stores in Ouroborus gives us something to spend them on.. but only the Astal and Empyreans... why not allow us to convert threads into merits and then we can use those to but costumes, auras, emotes, etc..
It's already possible to break down any component into threads so realistically this would allow a player to convert almost everything they have in their inventory to merits and but stuff at the store with them.
Oh and continuing.. there is a way to convert an empyrean into an astral (why anyone would I don't know lol) so how about giving us a method to convert astrals into Empyreans as well.... at some point since astrals are easy to obtain a player will run out of stuff to buy at the store (aside from thread vouchers of course) so why not allow us to convert astrals in emps so we can purchase the more expensive stuff.
Okay here is my suggested conversion chart.. keeping in mind NC Soft does not enjoy a 1 for 1 swap ratio:
1 Astral will convert to 4 thread and will buy the same amount of thread vouchers ast the store so ... 5 thread = 1 Astral
1 Empyrean will convert to 20 threads and can buy 18 thread vouchers at the store so 25 threads = 1 Empyrean
since 5 Atrals = 20 threads and 1 Empyrean also = 20 threads how about 6 Astrals = 1 Empyrean
And lets say 5 Reward Merits = 1 Astral as well. Using the simpliest method to obtain merits this would mean that if a player collected all 8 exploration badges in Atlas park and obtain the accoldae and 5 merit reward they could then buy 1 Astral and convert it into 4 threads. Now to put things into prospective since a single common component costs 20 threads and it requires 3 commons to slot a power with a tier one.. that player would need to get all of the exploration badges in 15 zones to purchase 1 tier one power enhancer. By exploring 8 zones they's acquire 40 merits which woulod allow them to buy 8 astrals and convert into 32 threads.. it takes 30 threads to open judegement or interface and 45 each to open lore or destiny.
Okay I realize this means that a player could start a new character and never convert any reward merits they earned until they hit 50 and if they did enough TFs, Trails, grabbed exploration badges, did tip mission and time travel missions they could potentially turn 50 and then immediately buy enough threads to very possibly open and slot all 5 of the current powers we have opened. And I am sure some of you will scream NOOOOOO they need to earn their incarnate abilities. You mean sort of like the three characters I just enhanced recently using astrals and emps i converted to thread vouchers and emailed to myself. I opened judegement, lore, interface and destiny on 2 characters and every one of those powers was them enhanced to tier 2 before those 2 characters ran a single trial.. they had opened and slotted Alpha prior to the trials by doing the mender arc and running task forces. So we already have methods in place to enhance a character without ever running a single trial and supposedly EARNING the right to incarnate powers.
What this also does, and we know NC Soft loves to find ways for us to spend more influence, is prompts players to use less reward merits to grab rare recipes and salvage.. so the market players will LOVE this ideasince prices can head back up. -
Quote:It makes about as much sense as your assertion that Controllers are bad healers based on an Illusion/Empathy Controller you got to level 10 seven years ago
Edit: Just out of curiosity I loaded up Mids to check the End cost of heals and the values of the buffs in Empathy for both Controllers and Defenders. It's showing the exact same values for both ATs. I checked the numbers on RedTomax and it's the same there. Is this correct? I just assumed that both RA's and AB would have higher values on the Defender.
The point of that was to see if there was a reason your /Emp Controller would be running out of End more quickly than an Emp/ Defender. But looking at the numbers the only difference you should see are the heals being a bit weaker on the Controller.
Just a quick suggestion to those still keeping this thread alive arguing. Please read through these threads..

The OP has, as you can see if you looked, a tendancy to start a thread and then despite overwhelming evidence that he MAY not be right will continue to argue and argue and argue his point...
Nuclea makes a very valid point in referring to the OP's reference to a character he managed to level to 10 and then deleted more than 7 years ago and now seems perfectly content to base opinions on how that AT works today based on that.
I strongly suggest .. just stop posting here. -
Nope I plan to stay put all my friends are here on virtue and none of them are switching so why go to VIP and and not know a soul.
I figure what i may do is turn the new server into my retirement home.. I have some 50s that I really don't play anymore but just don't have the heart to delete.. using my transfers I can move one a month to the VIP server and make room for new characters here. -
Quote:i dont mind the large group stuff like trials, but i wish we had some trials that werent entirely based on damn timers
to me timers are an artificial difficulty and make it worse for poeple who are slow learners, new to the experience, and add un-needed pressure to newer people which could have caused several of the situations on this thread such as the one snow globe described
we NEED some trial options which arent timed for the entire freaking trial, for me personally i absolutely hate the speeding/rushing mentality that timers tend to enforce, i prefer to take a leisurely time on a tf, no timers, no rush, so you can kill a lot, kill a little, run small team for challenge, run higher diff on larger teams, ect
apex and tin mage tfs are the perfect examples of how to make a trial with 0 timers (both of the tfs require about the same time to run as most trials (20-40 min), both tfs are semi related to incarnates, and both tfs use the same rules as incarnate trials (+4 on everything, HP scaling AVs))
the only thing that differentiates the tfs from trials is they award no incarnate xp or incarnate components (only threads and astral merits from the reward table) and they require only 1 team instead of multiple teams
if they could design trials like apex and tin mage tf without using artificial difficulty of timers, i could care less if they were as god awful as the keyes trial, or use all the temp powers they wanted, like lambda but with 4+ temps instead of 2
ive never been on any particularly bad trials where poeple were cursing about using temps or anything (i have had my share of failures, but nothing catastrophic)
basically my point is, i dont care what kind of special gimmicks they use for the trial, i just hate timers and the rush/speed mentality, timers are not fun for everyone and even one non-timed trial would be more fun than the current selection
I can see your point and I agree. Its especially stressful during the glowie stage of the Lambda... YOU NOW HAVE 5 MINUTES TO COLLECT ACIDS AND GRENADES... IF YOU FAIL THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THE TRIAL WILL AS WELL SINCE YOU NEED THESE TO STOP THE FLOW OF REINFORCEMENTS AND DEBUFF (PACIFY) MAURADER I have done countless lambdas and realizes this is normally not a problem but I have seen a few where time ran out with maybe 3-4 acids and about the same or less grenades
Now on the BAF the timers tend to be almost a joke... I have never seen any tram come close to failing the phase where you defeat NS the first time. Of course Phase two is timed and while not every trial team stops every escaping prisoner very few fail. Taking out Siege solo .. same as with NS more than enough time to accomplsih it. Now on the final phase things can get interesting.. Back when the trials were semi new I was invited to a BAF and told we are farming this.. Okay I thought how does one farm a timed trial. Easy.. when we got to that final phase we purposely defeated one AV long before the other to extend our time killings adds and earning much desured IXP. The only thing you had to watch was not to let the timer get too low before you finally synced up and took both out together for the win and the empyrean.. then everyone ralized they could just BUY IXP and I haven't seen one of those in forever. LOL
Now I run on them and find them okay but honestly the whole concept of a SPEED Lambda I find a little silly. It takes what a whole extra 4-5 minutes to clear the street and take out the gun turrents as opposed to just clearing the courtyard and heading inside... but whatever. What I find interesting are the people that come out with some rally wierd statedmenst during these...
last night i was on one and a player was asking for TP. I asked if he had a raptor pack and he replied yes but he kept getting shot down by the turrent.. DUH two of us had to explain to him stay low and just barely top the wall and stay in the middle between 2 guns. I went on to tell him I had JUST flown back from hospital myself and the guns never even notioced me. I sometimes find myself thinking.. "Seriously! Just how did you manage to level that character to 50. " -
Quote:Rail my first ever 50 level was an ILL/EMP controller and I never had a problem with end.. And that was back before stamina was inherant and you could start slotting it at level 2. Just what sort of build do you have.. and have you heard of end reducers. Like Tex my strategy was always if everything that can hurt my team is dead or held (or in the case of Illusion.. confused and attacking each other instead of the team) then no one needs to be healed. And i don't know what you carry in your inspiration tray but mine always has a supply of respites, and catch a breaths so if do run low on end or need a heal before my own recharges I can do so.. I can't heal or buff anyone if I am laying face down in the sewer.Illusion/Empathy. And I tried it two ways. Still trying to use illusion while healing at the same time. END sucks. Ignoring illusion and only using Empathy. END sucks. The Empathy set was actually what was draining most of my END as I had little to no issues when I was only using my Illusion powers.
And it should probably be noted that this is how the power set was at level 10... and 7 years ago.
At low levels end used to suck for almost every AT and powerset which was the main reason people screamed for years until we finally got stamina turned into an inherent. It's better now, and yeah I will even slot training orgins in stamina slots to help, but until the 20s and either SOs or IOs there is still a drain you need to contend with. -
Quote:Either you're mis-reading my posts or you're confusing what I said with what other people have said. I've never actually had a trial fail due to one person doing something incompetent (including the ever popular "lead Marauder out of the area" failure). I've had a few trials that failed back when they were new and people were still learning them but it's been a while since I've seen a failure. The closest I had was when the choke points were new and a trial failed due to the southern choke point being to far west despite me repeatedly asking in league chat for them to move further east. The trial failed we restarted and I specifically lead them where they needed to be ahead of time.
I can't even recall any specific cases of truly incompetent players. Minor annoyances, sure they come up all the time, such as people ignoring positioning requests ("please get on this side of Nightstar so the tanker can pull Siege that means everyone") or masterminds who don't set their pets on aggressive for the prisoners but nothing game breaking.
Now that doesn't mean I don't keep an eye out for it and take precautions against the possibility. Back when I actually bothered aciding the doors in Lambda I would automatically start taking out the extra containment chamber in the courtyard on the grounds that someone would lose their acid but it was never a big deal.
At the end of the day my motto is "never ascribe to malice what can be explained by incompetence". If someone is doing something wrong I assume it's because they don't know what to do. I'm happy to explain but a lot of the time I have no way of knowing who I need to talk to unless they tell me (a lot of people seem to completely ignore league chat).
Just to jump in and defend Adeon I have teamed with him many, many times and he is definately an excellent leader. This was back when the trials were new and his instructions and patience helped many of us become good at the trials. See my post above.. Adeon IS one of the leaders I have a note card on and has as many stars as it will allow me to give. -
Quote:I think that everyone who joins a trial wants it to be successful; no one tries to screw it up on purpose. It's disturbing to read all this "everyone's a moron but me and my small circle of people with whom I regularly play" chest-thumping. Casual players, players who've only just got their first toon to 50 after x number of years preferring not to, players who don't read the forums, and players who love to play but may never be as good at the game as they'd dearly love to be are not morons. They are not "not listening" to you (generally speaking, not actually you, Snow Globe
) so they can screw up your chance (and theirs) to get merits or ixp or badges. This dismissive, condescending, mean-spirited attitude makes people afraid to say that they've never done the trial (if they are even asked, and I've been on a LOT of trials where the leader never asks this at all or says something like "so any cherries here?" or something equally off-putting that no one would pipe up and say, oh, yes, me! I'm an idiot who's clueless, thanks for asking). If you want people to play as well as you do, try helping them rather than being rude and dismissive. You may be surprised at how well they begin to listen.
Whoa easy easy... Look being moronic is by no means limited to team members... I have seen my share of morons running TF and the I trials. It goes both ways and I am not referring to someone barnd new that simply doesn't know the ropes yet. Even with a detailed explanation once the trial begins and you have mayhem crashing all around you its easy to get confused. The vast majority of teams and team leaders know and understand that and will shrug off a mistake and move on.
What we are referring to are that small percentage, actually I am amazed it seems larger than I had expected, of players that seem to have the attitude that insructions apply to everyone else but not them. These are the people that show up in cut scenes during a lambda because .. "I helped find the acids its not my JOB to hunt for grenades" Despite the fact that as they exited the lab their leader specifically said .. Go help team X finish finding grenades! They are the impatient jerk so sure if they don't attack NOW instead of waiting for Siege and the ADDs to get into position then they won't get that rare or very rare they need. And of course as I mentioned this includes leaders as well. My favorite example was a Lambda leader that specifically told his team to help with acids after his team finished off the grenades.. when the cut scene rolled GUESS who was the only player from either team dancing with Maurder.
Are there leaders and players out there that are just absolutely convinced the ONLY way to do things is their way... sure there are. These are, in some cases the 7+ year vets that obviously know more about the game than anyone since they started in beta before the game even went live. How DARE we question their knowledge or methods. Take heart I have the feeling some of these people will be the ones running to the new VIP server to avoid playing with the "common trash". LOL I plan to wave good bye and send thank you cards for the lag they will take away with them.. most of it caused by their egoes. I actually had a player like this tell me how I should be playing my Plant/Rad controller. I asked if he'd ever played the powerset combo himself.. NO. I asked if he'd ever plated a controller before .. NO. And yet somehow his infinite knowledge of the COH universe made it possible for him to better understand how my powers worked and the best methods I should use when deploying them.... Funny I was around 40 level at that point and had been on a pile of Task Forces and trial along with PUG groups running everything from arc to radios and no one else ever had a problem with me debuffing the crap out of stuff and anchoring everything to the floor. See .. morons come in all shapes, sizes and species here.
I wish you luck in the future and I think if you just enjoy the GOOD teams you find and push the bad out of your head you'll be fine. Not sure where or when you play but I am on Virtue most evenings after 6PM EST and I can honestly say the good teams/leader outnumber the bad. After you fins a few .. add them to your frineds list and look for them. I have found most are on the same time nightly running trials for the astrals and emps .. I hook up with a leader I know and can relax and enjoy the fun.
Oh .. heres a hint I do use the note cards and rate leaders.. 1 star means STAY away BAD BAD man 4 star = MY Hero! That way even if you run into a BAD leader you only run into them once.

Oh yeah Nimoy would make a good villain voice.. which character
Others from Star Trek..
Michael Dorn (worf) would be good as say BABS and Dorn has done quite a bit of animation and even MMO voice work in the past
John de Lancie (Q) would be great in any number of roles.. Nemesis, Nueron, probably even be convincing as Recluse himself -
Quote:"Is everyone staying after this mission?" or even "I have an SG mate that wants in, is anyone leaving soon?"
These messages convey your intent to have someone new join the team. But if everyone wants to stay, guess what ... you need to deal with the team as is or quit your team and form a new one with your SG buddy.
The rude ways to make room on your PuG:
*kicking the non-SG PuGger without warning
*asking/targeting a non-SG PuGger to leave to make room
Sadly part of the problem is you are asking for politeness in a game where, in many cases, rudeness is more the norm. I have responded to posts in globals advertsing for a particular Task force or trial i wanted for my character and the leader said sure he'd save me a spot (since I was on a villain and he was a hero.. ITF in case you wondered). I ouro portaled to cap, flew to the midnighter club, zoned into Cimerora and sent another tell letting him know I was in zone.. Now I did all that as quickly as possible so i didn't make the team wait a long time.. but when i finally arrived in zone I was informed "Oh we filled"
Now I have formed teams of my own and understand that a leader can be dealing with a pile of tells depending on the Tf and the time of day but if you promised someone a spot on a team the PLOLITE thing to do is not turn right around and give it away.. At the very least that leader could have had the decency to send a tell back saying "Sorry we over recruited, or whatever, and the team is full" I was IN a solo mission when that opportunity arose... I quit the mission, and zoned like 3 times to get there only to be turned away. If he'd have gotten back to me at least maybe I wouldn't have had as long a trip back to where I started.
Fortunately the vast majority of the community isn't like that but the sad fact is your post will fall on deaf ears to the those that NEED the education. There are good players out there leading.. I have seen I Trials where in the confusion 1 too many players got invited and the leader did ask if anyone was willing to leave.. if not he made it clear that a last in/first out policy would apply.. so the last person invited would be the one to go. on more than one occasion someone else stepped up and said they coud wait or had other things they could do and wished us well before quitting.
If you had a bad experience recently I hope things go better for you. Its unfortunate but it does happen.. just forget about it and move on chances are the next team will be better anyway.. face it if the leader is an impolite jerk forming the team, a time where you'd think being NICE would be to his advantage, what will he be like once you start running missions. -
Quote:Sorry but I see this type of argument a lot so I thought I would add some input. Anecdotal experience is anecdotal experience. The majority of your league could have been level shifted with judgment, destiny and lore slots all filled up. If that's the case, any group can plow through the current iTrials without any issues. Now take a group of unlsotted characters, those same trials become much more difficult. In other words, it's just hard to conclude on anything with the information you provided.
And I think everyone here agrees that every AT is adequate. The crux of the argument is, are blasters still underperforming in comparison to other ATs?
NO... I'm sorry but I am tired of discussions like these. Yeah I'd say every member of the league was level shifted with all 5 Incarnate powers available. The original point the OP made was that WITH incarnate powers Blasters were useless and several others here sade they didn't even like inviting them to their teams. I just gave you two examples of teams with half the members being BLASTERS that had absolutely no difficulty at all with either trial.. so exactly how are they under powered or useless.
You want an example where no incarnates were available.. I have that as well. A good while back I joined a Citadel TF with my AR/Dev blasterwhen the leader advertised on globals. I arrived in Talos and discovered I was on an 8 man team that consisted of 7 Blasters and 1 Defender. no Tanks, no Scrappers and no controllers to "Keep us poor defenseless blasters from harm". Even I was leery of how it would go to be honest. We did have some deaths, of course, and our Defender had his hand full healing and buffing but our damage oputput was so high we simply blew through missions. Now last time I checked Citadel's task forces was a 25-30 level affair so no incarnate powers operate.. besdies this was before they existed.
The bottom line is that none of the ATs are defective and you can have fun playing any of them. What you need for any team on any mission to succeed is good players that know how to make their characters work. With IO sets and purples anyone can produce high numbers.. heck I can't recall the players name but there is a guy out there somewhere with a maxed out blaster that solos GMs and takes on Rikti Pylons... throw enough money at anything and it will perform but at that point is it your skill as a player that is successful or the several billion in INF you went through that made the difference, [no disrespect intended to that blaster .. soloing a GM is quite a feat no matter how its accomplished).
Too much attention is being paid to numbers in this game by some players.. Hey if your idea of fun is to spend hours pouring over columns of figures maybe you need to play the new MMO.. IRS Agent [no there is no such game. at least I HOPE not lol]. Numbers are fine but strategy and experience are better. My cute little Elf Maiden Arch/Ice blaster has saved many a team from a total wipe with her "point sticks" and on numerous occasions has been the only one left standing in a room, friend or foe, after a fight ended... and no not because I ran away and came back. my Fire/Fire/Flames Blaster is my Blapper and on trials when an MK Vickie is in her face she lets loose with her close ranged attacks and makes it wish it had picked on ANYONE else.
I'm sorry but I don't agree with your thinking.. Numbers do NOT win battles not in real life or in this game. I'll take a team of GOOD players with average characters over a team of complete morons with tricked out builds any day. Especially on these trials I have seen way too many times where all it takes is ONE jerk that can't or won't follow instructions to turn a trial into a miserable experience (and failure) for all. -
I haven't really bothered with this thread for a while. But today I was on a mini BAF and a Speed Lambda that just made me think about all this talk of blaster being useless and not needed or even welcome on some teams. Okay we did the lambda first and of the 16 players involved 7 were blasters and 2 were corruptors ... we had a grand total of 1 defender (the league leader), 1 tank and 1 Brute. We added a SoA crab and the rest were scrappers. Yeah I am sure you are think OMG almost half the league is blasters and no control the death toll must have been horrid. Yeah it was .... I have never seen so many IDT drop so fast in my life. Even on the Glowie phase I visited the hospital once and we finished in near record time.
Unlike many recent Lambdas I have been on we did not leave every portal open for almlost 2 minutes (till 18:00) instead we closed all but two and amazingly still managed to wipe out 30 IDT for the extra Astral quickly and then dropped poor Maurader before he got to use his catch phrase "On the Ground again" twice. In short it was one of the best lambdas I have been on in recent days.
Okay we moved on the the mini BAF. Phase one was over so fast it barely seemed like I got to attack much at all. then, since our lone tank had quit, a blaster used snipe to get Northstar to the north wall and we tore her and her adds to pieces.
I dc'd for a moment with less than 1 minute left on the prisoner phase so I don't know exactly how that went but in over 4 minutes not a single prisoner had come close to escaping.. so I am guessing they got the added astral for no prisoners escaped.
I got back as Siege was lumbering into position and along with everyone else opened up on him. The big pile of steel dropped like a rock and then we tore him and his girl friend apart. Oh did I mention we had gotten a little larger between trials.. we had 20 in the league on the BAF and 10 were blaster, one corrupter woth our SoA crab adding his AoE attacks.
Aside from the brief crash, which cost me at least one Astral, it was a totally enjoyable experience for my Fire/Fire/Flame Blaster. Let's face facts any good group of players can succeed at anything in this game if they are willing to work together.. We have seen all Blaster ITFs, All Defenders STFs, ect, ect. -
Quote:Personally, I won't be transferring any characters, nor starting any new characters on the VIP server. The more people that stay on their home servers, the better the game will look to those who are thinking about trying it when it is free to play. By staying on servers that are open to Free players, we can help to make the game a larger success. New players will be turned off if they log on and see that the VIP server is 3 dots in the red and all the other servers are less, but if the VIP server is relatively empty, they'll know that we aren't elitists who think less of them because they can't or don't want to pay for the game.
I don't plan on transferring either. What I may do is transfer some semi retired 50 levels that I don't have the heart to just delete but really have no desire to play anymore there. That way I free up slots on virtue for new characters.
I have friends here that also have no intention of leaving virtue so why would I transfer all my characters to a server where i don't know a soul and start all over again. Not only that but I have 36 slots on virtue and they are all filled.. so lets see it would take me 3 years at one free transfer a month to get them all there OR I pay to transfer them and then have to pay for added slots on the VIP server to hold them all as well.
naw I think i will just stay put... Hey maybe it will be LESS laggy on virtue if a ton of vips that can't stand the thought of playing with .. ewww F2P players all leave lol -
Quote:The badges for the side missions can be gained from the 45-50 PI bank missions easily enough.)
Sure they can and I did just that with Operative Tessa my Crab Spider after I crossed her over from Red to Blue side through GR. But I have a lot of other characters that did exactly 1 PI bank mission to earn the exploration and accolade badge because they already had the badges for all the side missions earlier. And trust me its a whole lot easier to battle council and crey in Brickstown to get at sides than to take on Malta sappers and Carnies in PI.
To illustrate.. I currently have a 39 level Corruptor red side. Just doing mayhems to get contacts she now only needs to do 2 more arson missions to meet all the requirements for the Force of Nature badge. Of course she still needs to do at least one 40-45 level mayhem in Founders falls and one 45-50 level in PI for Invader but thats a lot different than doing 10 or more Safeguards in PI to get all of the side missions required and you still only get 1 of 2 accolades by doing that since you still are missing exploration badges.
Now i can't speak for every server but yes Virtue has not one but two dedicated badge channels not to mention a few general purpose globals you can ask about anything in.. But once again we are back to trying to find someone with THAT particular mission when we are available to be on line and have the time to do it.. instead of just giving us a way to pick it up without the hassle. They did a great job with Ouro and saved the badge hunter community a lot of grief with flashbacks. Its time they added the badges in mayhem and safeguards to the list. -
This is long overdue and has been suggested before It is time it became a reality.

Why you ask...
Red Side .. as mentioned previously not 1 but 2 different accolades that grant powers are tied to mayhems.. Invader grants a 5% increase in total HP and Force of Nature adds to + Recharge +Recovery and +Accuracy for 1 minute 9at a cost of - Def). Miss one mayhem and you have to TRY to find someone with that mission or lose out on both powers
Blue Side .. not as bad since neither accolade grant anything but another badge .. Then again how many badgers do we have in the game. I have seen players offering millions to anyone with a particular safeguard some badger missied.
Gold Side .. Since there is absolutely no equivilant in Praetoria to a Safegaurd or Mayhem anyone that starts a character there and then heads to Paragon or the Isles at level 20 has already missed out on several badges and the temp powers as well. Now it may not seem important to not get a raptor pack or jump pack since by 20 everyone can have a permanent travel power but i have 50 levels that still use their raptor packs in certain situations... comes in very handy battling the Arachnos Flyer in the STf just as an example. Also since there is no equivilant to convert once they cross over the miss out on the chance at any accolade, with or without powers, unless they find someone to invite them to lower level missions they had no access to in Praetoria.
I like the OPs idea.. at every level allow a player to run 3 or 5 newspapers/radios and then the Mayhem/Safeguard. That way they gain no advantage by waiting to do them as opposed to doing them at the proper level but can still EARN the badges and get the temps.
Now lets talk about the Praetorian arcs.. Time to finally add those as well to Ouroborus. I still have a MM that is one morality mission short of a badge and the badge tracker has ALWAYS stated I could do it in Praetoria or through flashback. I even contemplated staying in Praetoria past level 20 to get the badge but that statement convinced me that I could wait to level 25, earn my ouro portal and then just pick up mission # 5 via flashback. My MM is a 50 (+3) level now and still can't earn that badge because no Praetorian flashback missions exist. That is just my story I am sure there are plenty of other players that would love to flash back and do some or even all the praetorian arcs just to DO them.
We have added the old Calvin Scott TF to the portal, the old Posi TF and after issue 21 it sounds like access to the old Galaxy city neighborhood.. to complete arcs and find badges will exist but we can't find a way other than bribing other players to pick up a safeguard/mayhem we missed and no way at all to flashback to Praetoria. FIX IT -
Quote:I don't think league size is an issue.. It's all about the moron to non-moron ratio.
Definately agree .. I have been on full sized (24 man) BAFs that failed because 1-2 or the players on the team assigned to Adds were all that actually were TRYING to deal with the adds and before long the entire league simply got over run. Lamba.. the classic is the league leader warning players not to aggro until the portals are closed so of course some dim bulb has the entire IDT and Maurader on top of the league before a single portal can be closed.
Now Eco I don;t know what server your on or who you are running into on minis but the leaders I have hooked up with are very well organized and run a very good league. I have run into more jerks on full sized league that just assumed because they never saw a BAF fail when they were JUST a team member that actually having a plan and organizing when they were in charge wasn't important. A good team is a good team no matter the size. the thing I enjoy with the mini is the lack of LAG. -
Quote:The voiceovers seem to be only in the tutorial so far - they're partly in.-character, and party just giving info - the idea is to reduce the amount of reading required in the tutorial to get new players into the action right away.
Ahh yes considering how WELL people read the instuctions given by League Leader on the I Trials lets come up with a system that not only potentially adds more lag to the game but also requires players to spend even less time reading so they know what to do. {please note sarcasm is intended here lol}
It could be okay I just think we somehow managed to get along quite nicely for more than7 years without audio instructions .. and that was when we were all PAYING to play the game. Now on the eve, so to speak, of allowing free 2 players suddenly we have a need to make life simpler and verbally instruct rather than expect players to be able to read and follow simple instructions.
I just did a Lambda trial with my MM and once again the bug that leaves my minions sitting at the front door reared its head and I found myself trying to resummon in the middle of a battle. That bug has been around for years with the only fix being /release_pets. And that's just one glaring example of ongoing issues but instead of devoting time and energy into fixing stuff like that.. lets add voice overs. LOL Sadly we can debate this forever but chances are IF its coming no amount of negative comments here will change it -
Quote:Ugh... Yeah, I've yet to see an MMO get decent voice acting which didn't infuriate me. I still remember the horror that was "I am out of range. I can't cast that. Not enough mana. I am out of range." Ugh! I had to ask my friend to mute his speakers more than few times. Also, there are about ten thousand pages of text in this game, so there's no chance in hell we'll get voice-overs for all of them. This leads to the old Baldur's Gate problem - only, like, five characters in the whole game speak and everyone else is still silent. This creates a kind of dissonance I don't really want to see.
Of all the things I wanted to see - and better audio being one of them - voice overs seem like the least productive use of money.
I agree with Sam 100%.. maybe 110% There are a lot of things that can use work in the game before we impliment a system that .. Good Grief could add even more LAG. Given the way the economy is these days my guess would be that "BOB" from accounting would be the one picked to do these voice overs since I seriously doubt Brab Pitt or Tom Hanks are available (or COH could afford them).
It does however allow us the chance to dream. Pardon the plot twist but how about a who do you see voicing certain roles in NC SOFT could afford to pay anyone..
Anti-Matter (insane rant at beginning of Keyes Island trial).. Jack Black in full over the top crazy garage-band rocker mode.
Mother Mayhem (BAF) ... I'm thinking Meryl Streep reprising her character from the Devil wore Prada and maybe just a touch of the crazy she brought to Cruella DeVille.
Romulus (ITF) .. Geral Butler using that same style he did in 300.
Dr. Aeon (STF) .. Pee Wee Herman LOL Sorry I couldn't resist Aeon is such a goof ball. Then again I love him so maybe we replace Herman will Wil Ferrell. let me clarify I love Wil Ferrell and his movies .. Aeon is still a goofy nerd.
Lord Recluse (SFF) ... I was thinking James Earl Jones. After doing Darth Vadar I can't see anyone else in the role of the baddest villain in game.
Maurader (lambda Trial) .. Okay I was torn here .. Mohamad Ali is a little too old but would be great in that role, Mr. T has other MMO commitments (besides the man can't act may as well get Bob from accounting) so I was thinking possibly Jamie Foxx.
Siege (BAF) .. is Ben Stein still available for acting roles. That lifeless drone of his would be perfect for a robot.
Nightstar (BAF) I figured I'd throw the guys a treat and we get Angelina Jolie to do it. Oh god what have I done.. people will be lying about how many times they have seen that cut scene just to hear her.
So let's see we haven't even cast anyone for the roles of the trainers and TF contacts yet or the numerous signature villains we contact Red side for SFs etc.. but we are probably close to a few million dollars in fees. No problem we just do like NASCAR and most major league sports teams..
Synapse is seen wearing Nike as he stands in Skywat waiting to send you off to battle the Clockwork King
Positron can get any number of business logos painted onto the body armor.. Top dollar goes to the spots on his chest and mid back (largest area for a log)
We keep the Aarachnos Flyer up and running constantly and turn it, along with the airship in Atlas, into our own version of the goodyear blimp flashing ads for .. whoever in big bright neon!
heheheh okay joke over. Back to serious.. Sam's right we do NOT need voice overs before we fis a lot of other stuff. -
hehehe Okay I definately stand corrected although I am still confused...
Not a single one of my vet powers works during a trial (Sands of Mu, Blackwand, Ghostslaying Axe, Nemesis Staff, etc)
Not a single power I have earned in completing day job requiremnets for accolades. (Ability to heal or rez comrades, smoke grenades, frag grneades ect)
Not a single temp power I battled for or earned doing missions (Shivan, Warwolves, ect)
Not a single power I crafted or purchased (Vanguard HVAC, Back up radio, evenomed dagger, ect)
But for some reason out of all the temps many of my characters have earned my Raptor Pack, Goldbricker Pack and things like Ninja Run do. When the trials first started and every temp I had in trays, and I AM a temp power junkie I had plenty, was useless so I simply assumed that like the old style Master of Task Forces .. the trials were designed to force players to live, die, succeed or fail with only those powers they aquired through training or the well. Even on a master of run things like Ninja Run continued to work because.. well because we paid cold hard cash for the right to own those so the devs left them alone.
This brings up a question.... My Crab Spider Operative Tessa currently has .. Shivan, a Snow Beast, Back Up radio, and a HVAS. In addition she has 3 Spiderlings, 2 Arachnobot Disruptors,1 Arachnobot Blaster and 2 LORE Seers. In short a small army that if I was allowed to summon could make the prisoner escape portion of a BAF much easier. Now the Shivan I worked to earn in Bloody Bay, the HVAS I battled Rikti to earn the vanguard merits required to purchase, the Back Up Radio, like all of the IO enhancements in my power slots, I created on the crafting tables of my base and the Snow Beats was a gift I opened during the Holiday Season.
Now Trust me I already know the answer i am just playing devil's advocate here but just exactly who sat down in some meeting and decided "They can't have access to anything that might add to their ability to buff, debuff, or damage but hey lets let them keep the travel power stuff." Gee thanks Devs.. I battle a solo AV hyped up on, I assume, water from the well of the furries in the Lambda. I battle two Mechanical death Machines that rez and require me to defeat both twice in the BAF, and I battle an obviously insane and obsessed AV with radioactive cannons in space during the Keyes Island trial Don't let me keep anything useful but give me travel powers I don't even really need. Yes I do use Ninja Run to get to the next fight faster or to TRY and outrun mobs and survive (Lambda) but all of the trials are one BIG map.. Why do I need a raptor pack more than an envenomed dagger.
lol Okay all done.. Hey with the incarnates I have who needs any of it. Like I said i started doing trials the day issue 20 hit and it took until NOW to discover I could use my raptor pack.. yeah I was really missing that.I guess the real question I have now is on that Lamda I described where the one MM had no travel power and was begging for teleport. If he used a jet pack a LOT to get over tall stuff.. why wasn;t it in a tray and why didnt he realize it still worked. NOT TOO BRIGHT was he lol
-
Quote:Strange. I know the Raptor Pack I purchased in Grandville worked fine on a mini-BAF last night because I was using it to hover/Assassin-Strike Nightstar a few times. Is it just the ones built from temp recipes that don't work?
Really .. I don't usually keep those out in my trays since I only use them occasionally. All I know is every other temp power I ever earned goes greyish and doesn't work. The only ones that do are Ninja run (puchased) Mystcial Fortune (purchased) and Secondary mutation (purchased). Even my vet reward powers are useless.. I will HAVE to check that out next trial I am on. Oh I did discover one other temp that satys active .. the Dimensional Grounding Ray gun you get on a Kahn TF... and it works on Maurader, Siege or Northstar just as well as it does on Reichmann.. well maybe not AS well but it helps.
See NOW I have to LOG back on and run another trial JUST to check on my raptor pack availabilityLOL

Quote:Another slight variation I have seen is Lam/Mini-BAF back to back. Ideally with all the same folks.
Yeah I have been a part of a number of those recently and they are a lot of fun and very quick. Perfect for people that don't have a lot of time or players that are pretty much set on power slot just looking to collect astral and empyrean merits to use at the store.
For new incarnates the speed Lamdba does skip a good bit of potential IXP because you jump the wall of the facility and just clear out the IDT forces in the courtyard. But depending on how much INF a player has buying IXP with threads is faster than running multiple trials anyway so the more Astrals and Emps you can earn and convert to threads the quicker you can open powers.
heheh A small warning.. I did one of the Speed Lam/Mini Bafs recently and despite the briefing prior to entering the queue once inside, and after jumping the wall, we had one league member begging for teleport. As it turned out he had never taken ANY travel power and used nothing but Ninja Run and Jet Packs to get around. He quickly discovered that NR wasn't enough to leap the walls of Lamda section and, of course, the Jet pack was a temp and unavailable on ANY trial. I have been on a few since that seemed to adapt to address that problem.. We didn't jump the wall but took the shortest path possible to the main gate, fighting our way north and then across, and then entered the courtyard and cleared before heading in to take out the security guard.
One other small warning.. on a speed Lamdba if you hit the hospital be prepared to avoid all those street mobs and the gun turrent while trying to get back and help with acid and grenade collecting. Here again flier seem to have a big advantage.. I can easily avoid street mobs and as long as I stay low and in the middle between two turrent I have never had a problem. Not sure how other travel power users fair but aside from that one guy I mentioned earlier I have never heard anyone that mentioned having a problem.
