Quote:I'll tell you 'why', but you probably still won't like it....
During the beta testing for the first iTrials, the Devs wanted there to be a real penalty for 'death'... not just immediately rushing into battle to overwhelm the foes.
First attempt was sending one back to the hospital where you zoned in from, e.g., Pocket D or Altas Park. We then pointed out that unduly penalized the slow loaders.
Then they put a field hospital right in the zone, but, to stop the rushing, they put a 1,000 mag stun on us for 10 seconds (or was it a hold for 20 seconds? doesn't matter at this point...). But you came out of the mez with little health and end... a real detriment for summoners and togglers.
Then they tried an Immobilize which allowed resummoning without re-entering until the Immob wore off. But, with the BAF, individuals rushing back in were being immediately picked off by the turrets.
So, they went with a hospital with a timed door so that those who 'died' came back in together in waves to get past the turrets. And that's why we have locked hospital doors. It's a death penalty. If you don't like it, then don't die.
It's also something very, very, very unlikely to be done away with. The designers were pretty adamant that there be some penalty for being defeated.... It's not like level 50s worry too much about debt.
Okay this makes sense and like most the 20 second, max, wait is only a minor annoyance.
But my question now exactly why did the devs feel the need to penalize anyone for dying. I could very easily tag along on a BAF with a brand new 50 + nothing and hide out at the entrance while the league battled .. collecting astrals, emps, threads, XP and even badges /components and never DIE once because I was no where near the battle. Sure I'd probably only get the minimum 10 thread reward but until I had all my powers to teir 2 and wanted to start working on teir 3's .. the only people that would care are the team mates I'd be expecting to work for me. [let me clarify I NEVER team that way.. I will always be in the thick of things and if I die .. I die!].
So the devs put one system in place to ensure people don't benefit from door sitting.. the reward table (and that minimum 10 thread for just being there) and then turn right around and feel the need to somehow PUNISH me if my brand new incarnate with alpha open but not even slotted dies trying to battle level 54. Then they futher complicate the mess by creating a trial where a laser, or whatever its supposed to be, from outer space constantly delivers attack after attack that auto drains at a minimum 50% of any characters health. The set up the lambda so players are forced to totally ignore the mobs firing at them while the race against the clock to find and take out all of the glowies.. and squishies spend as much time running back and forth from the hospital as they do in the warehouse or lab.
I don't even do the Keyes trial anymore because its annoying and even done right always seems like a cluster ... to me. Lambdas.. I do until in open up the powers and then it depends on the character. My tanks, scrappers, SoA and even a few controllers .. will join one in a heart beat. My defenders and blasters don't go near them if they don't need to. But if i am participating in any trial I will give 100% all the time and if that means I die then so be it! That's called being a team player in a game geared toward team play.. so some DEV decided they needed to PUNISH us for that.. that's Brilliant (NOT) lol -
Quote:It seems the rules are:
1. Compare and contrast MMOs: Completely forbidden.
2. Mention other MMOs in passing: Yes. But don't go on about them and don't break rule #1. [E.g.: "I'm sure the Devs will try to get the Winter Event going right before WoW goes F2P in December." Further discussion of that point should not be happening.]
3. Mention other NCsoft MMOs: Yes. You can even discuss them, but, don't break rule #1. [E.g.: A thread about Guild Wars 2 is OK.]
4. Non-MMO games: Mention in passing, but no discussion threads about them unless they are related to the comic-world. This would be part of the rule of keeping Comic Culture forum related to comic culture. [E.g., discussion of the Marvel table-top RPG would be OK, discussion of Magic:The Gathering would not.]
At least, that's how I interpret it.
I don't know Zombie its all a grey area to me so I usually try to avoid it completely. Take your rule # 4 [keeping Comic Culture forum related to comic culture]. Okay now I know for a fact that people start thread here and discuss movies and tv. Okay a thread on the now cancelled show "The Cape' I could see .. its about a guy who becomes a super hero or a thread discussing movies like Thor or Captain America. But I have seen threads on the show "Chuck" about a guy working as a spy for the cia.. and this is related to the comic culture .. HOW! LOL
Now I fully understand them not wanting other MMOs discussed in great detail .. like you said that's almost like allowing advertising for a rival on your own servers.. that's beyond bad business practice It's insane -
Quote:So, if you buy 5 costume slots, create a VEAT, do the L10, L20, and L30 costume slot missions, and turn in Halloween salvage for a 10th costume, then there is no benefit to doing the L40 costume slot mission?
No no .. look Do the mission at level 10 and get costume #2, then do the costume missions at 20, 30 and 40..and turn in your Halloween salvage. you now have 6 slots open for free.. Now go buy 4 (not five) slots .. why waste the points! -
When the incarnate system first started people asked Positron what are we supposed to do with these Astral and Empyrean merits besides buying threads .. He promised, at that time, that eventually there would be more and then the Astral and Empyrean stores arrived in Ouroborus.
The store allows us to purchase certain emotes, costume pieces and now even Rare or very Rare recipes. They are perks for having attained level 50 and for participating in the incarnate trials. Now the new signature arcs do award vips threads or one astral merit so I suppose if done often enough a player could buy some of the things from the Astral store without doing trials but they STILL need to be a 50 level.
As mentioned once purchased each item is available to every character on every server that player has, except the acention armor which is intended for 50 levels only. Even then a 2 level will still have an email showing that each of those pieces of armor are available they simply can't claim them until they attain 50. As for everything else.. a 1 level in the tutorial can claim their copy.
We are not talking any major POWER or even a complete costume, that armor aside, just a few small trinkets that Posi and NC Soft gave us as a reward for completing a few trials. Now there are quite a few of these things and a LOT of players have run 2, 3 and now even 4 trials a day to gain access to these small goodies. Some how I don't think they'd be too happy to discover suddenly the same thing they, at that point, wasted emps and astrals on was now available to anyone with a credit card and access to the on line store. Then again if things go the way they normally seem to .. six months from now because some players complained all of it will be available at the market. -
The basic idea behind the FREE server transfer for VIPs was to allow them to slowly, one per month, move characters from the zones they are on now to Exalted (the new vip zone). That way a player could eventually move all of the characters they wanted to the new zone without paying a transfer fee provided they were patient enough.
As mentioned here it definately has side benefits. Have a character that you love but wish desperately you'd chosen a different name..... Wait till you have 2 free transfers, find a server that already has a character with that name (or go create a character on that server with the same name .. shhhhh don't tell them I said that lol) , then transfer your beloved character to that server. Of course the first time you log on your going to get a free name change because your character's name already exists there. Then just use your 2nd free transfer to go back to your old server. NOW.. IF the free transfer did not exist to accomplish that your best bet would be to simply but a rename token from the on line store.. otherwise you'd need to buy 2 server transfers to accomplish the same thing.
Personally I have used mine, along with a few I purchased, to transfer characters. A few older 50 that I didn't have the heart to delete but never play anymore retired to Exalted to make room for new characters using Time Manipulation, Beam Weapons and Street Justice. A few characters I had on other servers found their way to Virtue (my home).
I realize there are players out there that don't care to do any of the things mentioned and wont but plenty of us are and here's the thing..
NC soft easily could have not given us anything at all and just let those of us that wanted to transfer characters PAY for the priviledge. Its better to have something you may or may not use than to have absolutely nothing at all. -
Quote:Golden Girl,I am NOT talking about an iTrial I am talking about a zone event that was not fun or productive.
So next time, what if no one came?
Okay first of all a zone event has absoluetly nothing to do with I trials, Sutter's TF or just about anything else besides.. the zone event. Sorry you had a misreable time but Zwilliger did one a week or so ago on VIRTUE and we all had a blast..Warwalkers (GM) variety and Hamidon seeds stretched across half of Talos leading to Founders Falls. From there we hit Eden and then the Hive where Zwill himself joined us in taking down the Hamidon.
Did I die a couple times.. sure but I spent a lot more time destroying IDF and Hamidon spawns than rezzzing and resting and I didnt hear a soul complaining.
If you don't enjoy a ZONE event.. leave and play in another zone or just wait it out until it passes. The event I spoke of in Talos probably only lasted half an hour before it moved on the Eden and then the Hive. There is no zone event that i know of that offers up huge XP rewards.. the Rikti invasions don't and neither do the Zombies. People do them for the badges, the accoldade (Rikti), the costume piece (zombies) and just to do something different that is fun. It's been a while but i was fortunate enough to be on line for, I believe, the 5th anniversay event. (someone can correct me if I have that wrong). Every giant monster in game roamed from zone to zone along with, depending on red or blue side, Recluse and all of his lieutenants (BLUE) or Statesman and all the Signature heroes (RED). Huge teams formed and followed along until we all had every single badge available. At one point there were three Krunos Titans just off shore on Peregrine Island and we attacked and took them all down.. I think it was 3 or maybe 4 Winter Lords appeared at once in Steel Canyon. It was like nothing they have ever done before or since. I am so glad I was home that day. -
Quote:He's saying that the farmers (actually people willing to PL, rather than drop-farmers) are too thinly spread amongst the 501,234,123,314 different Atlas Park instances on his server (because, you know, hyperbole is a good way to convince people to understand you).
Of course, that's 70+ times as many instances of AP as there are people on the planet, and let's say that each instance caters for 50 characters, so that means that there are 3,500 accounts per head of population of the whole planet, just on that one server, which makes CoH wildly more popular than any other pastime in the entire history of the universe.
If all of those characters were laid end to end, it would reach from the Earth to the Sun 334,000 times. Since the servers went live, over 109,000 characters have been created every second. The character database has 167 times as many characters as human DNA has base pairs.
So that would mean....
WE ARE NUMBER ONE ! YAY!
I say we through a huge party and invite everyone.. to make it easier we should hold it in an alternate universe where we'd all be only 1 centimeter high. It will make it easier to find a place big enough for the party and the dance floor won't be nearly as crowded.
It does make you wonder though.. if there were that many Atlas parks imagine the number of RWZs with incarnate trials running non stop. WOW -
Quote:You misunderstand, he doesn't want to farm, he wants a farmer to PL him because apparently he has better things to do than playing the game.
Yes and I paste and cut the quote..
Quote:I like to sit in a big cave farm, and afk as I lvl. So I can do other things, now I wait around for 2 hours trying to get a farmer and fail. AND before you go "goplaythegameinsteadofwaiting" So I get a lvl that I can prob get in a short farm in 8 minutes?
Edit: almost forgot THAT farmer kicked said loud mouthed ungrateful low level off his farm and from what I heard never let the guy near his farm missions again. The morale of the story boys and girls is don't bite the hand that offers you easy xp and Inf.. You may get your neck snapped in return! -
Okay not a match I want anything to do with. I have seen ZWIL's powers. He is the ultimate mastermind.. The Rwz suddenly filled with Winterlords and their minons.. the candy canes flowed like water. Talos flooded with Hamidon Seed and GM level Warwalkers! And what I'm supposed to show up with my SD/SS tank and try battling that... LOL
The man can make it rain zombies and snow Rikti Drop ships and let's not forget the ultimate power.. he can suppress all of ours LOL
Okay is Positron listening.... When can we get clowns as minons -
Quote:I once told a DFB team that I was going to drop the team and enter via the queue, because I didn't want to have to run all the way to the zone they were in.
The leader replied, "You can do that?"
Yup, you can. I did, and it worked. So at least 5 other folks on Champion learned that day that's how the DFB really works.
Ummm same applies for the incarnate trials.. If you join a league you HAVE to be in the same zone as the leader for the trial to begin. If you enter the Queue you can be just about anywhere, SG bases and inside a mission being exceptions, and will be automatically teleported into the trial. lol I have done both since DFB began.. joined teams forming in Atlas park or just hit the LFG and let the game find me a team..
One small draw back. Not sure if the guy was trying to solo the trial or everyone else had just given up on beating the Hydra. I said i was willing to join a trial in progress and discovered all the villain groups were defeated and 1 guy was in the final chamber trying to beat 2 hydra heads.. I quit and left him to his pursuit.. or insanity LOL whichever applies! -

I went with Dark on my Demon Summoner and the effect was awesome. One of the pluses with dark is almost everything has some sort of debuff attached. The Heal [twilight grasp] does -dam -to hit and so does Darkest Night the actual debuff. Even Fearsome Stare can be slotted to maximize its - to hit potential. The rez [holwing twilight] is an awesome disorient and also causes - regen and - rech.
Then of course with DM you add an addition pet in your Dark Servent that can also heal and debuff. Oh and don't forget Tar Patch which slows everything to a crawl. -
Quote:I've never made a debuff toon and would like to know whats the best debuffer in the game? I want to be able to turn AV's into kittens by the time i'm finished with them. So what AT has the best debuffs and what powers?
As already mentioned it depends on exactly what you want from your debuffer.. Defenders do get higher numbers and powers sooner but Trollers tend to solo a little easier and throw other things into the mix
I tend to agree that Rad and DM are hands down the two best debuffers in game. I think Rad has a slight edge because on incarnate trials (the BAF in particular) I can debuff BOTH Siege and Nightstar at the same time.. one gets Radiation Infection and the other Enervating Field. Now for a solo Av.. DM is amazing because even my heal debuffs and my rez is a powerful tool the disorients just about anything. If you are playing with me you better have awakes if you die because as fast as Howling twilight recharges I will be using it again.
Now my favorite is my Rad/Rad defender.. not only do the primaries debuff but every single attack also has a -DEF when it hits. essentially even my attacks are debuffing.
For Controllers I go with my Plant/Rad .. All that debuff and a ton of holds and immobs .. its not all debuff but if it can't move and its a melee NPc it can't damage anything. My plant Rad never has a problem finding a incarnate trial and she is amazing on the prisoner escape portion. Melee characters love that the minons at least wind up helpless while they pound on them. Then, as mentioned previously, I debuff both AVs during the final battle!
Don't stop yet... my Mastermind.. Bots/DM. .. lots of damage so you contribute that way and you still have a great debuff set.
And why are we leaving out ..corruptors. They have access to Rad and DM and also have all the blaster sets including Dark and Rad which debuff.
Plenty of good things to pick from in this thread so pick one and enjoy! -
Quote:Z... Have I remembered to tell you lately that you're an evil, evil guy?
Because you are.
I hope you didn't JUST realize that. LOL Last weekend I was in Talos and the man had Hamidon Seeds stretched from the train station all the way to Founders Falls and I forget how far in the other direction. Then more in FF and finally.. in the Hive. Oh he threw in numerous IDF and Warwalker GMs too. Hmmm come to think of it.. that was FUN. and he's evil because..... me is confused.
[see i figure if I butter him up he might talk] Oh dang I shouldn't have posted that huh -
Quote:I understand what you mean Bill and if an experienced players prefers to use AE to avoid old boring content I am fine with it. But you and I both know what some of those brand new AE'ers were like after the mission archetect came out and things like the infamous Rikti Comm Officer farm emerged and allowed them to level without learning how to play the game.. even even get around in the city.Followed by...
... but, Wendy, you *are* implying they're doing it the "wrong" way with some of your commentary.
Now, personally, yes, I agree if someone's new to the game, or hasn't played in a while - or is even just trying out a new AT - they should play the game itself and experience the content.
But, if they've been playing a while - you know, the new Atlas (with *fewer* paths now) already has me burned out, just like the old limited Mercy Isle/Oakes path - I can see wanting to skip to where it "gets interesting." Or setting up a PVP specific character - it doesn't matter if they've seen X arc or not, they need a character for the PVP league to IO out and fill a roster spot.
There *are* legitimate reasons to zip past some content.
I joined a Manticore TF and one of them decided to join. I am not exagerating when I say that for 5 minutes we tried to direct this individual on how to get to the train station in Atlas Park, BIG SUPRISE, and have him arrive in Brickstown so we could start. Finally the leader gave up kicked the guy and we did the TF with 7 instead of 8.
If you know what your doing and have seen it all a thoudand times. fine play whatever you like and enjoy yourself. If your brand newfor your own sake, as well as those that may have to play with you later, do the tutorial missions and actually play outside of AE. Then you wont find yourself a 50 level asking for directions to Steel Canyon cause someone told you there was a tailor shop there and you could do a special mission and earn a 2nd outfit BUT you can't see Steel anyon on your Atlas Park map anywhere.. LOL THAT is a true story. Some guy actually said that in BROADCAST and you can imagine the responses he got! -
Quote:I have to say I question the OP's definition of "casual" if it involves running the same trial four times in a row, then two consecutive task forces. That's like calling NFL players "casual" because they only play one game a week.
I consider it casual because of the time required.. 4 sewer trials.. 1 and one half hours. Even the most casual players can usually find an hour or two a day/week/ or whatever to make it on line and play. Posi one took me a total of 51 minutes.. Posi 2 1:19:00 .. even combined that's just over 2 hours and if done on different days again even a very casual player could easily find the time to complete them. And keep in mind I did mention this was not done in one long 4.5 to 4 hour time frame. I did the trials with a couple SG friends on one friday evening (an entire 90 minutes of play time .. along with time before and after BSing LOL). and the two back to back Posi TFs were done the following Saturday afternoon. I hardly see either of those as excessive amounts of time on line and in game.
LOL Yes GOB I realize my plan required the horror of Synapse but then again compared to the torture that once was Positron before the fix, and yeah I have played long enough to have suffred through that ordeal, Synapse is a walk in the park. Keep in mind I have also done Doc Q in the shadow shard.. all other TFs pale before the tedium that is DOC Q!Now come one really it's just 3 straigh, almost identical kill alls, followed by one of my favorite in game chores .. a patrol and then another kill all. After that you can actuallu stealth missions.. if your still awake! Besides i like having the TF commander accolade so almost all of my characters endure Synapse.. ONCE!
How is running 4 straight Death from Below trials different than sitting in the AE building and doing the same farm mission over and over and over. Well let's see...
1. I'm doing actual authorized approved content from NC Soft that doesn't, in some way, violate the EULA and doesn't require me to sneak around and use "code words" when discussing it to avoid anyone discovering what I do and reporting me. In other words I didn't create a "special" AE mission that I had to give a special name and hope the Devs looking for farms or MARTY didn't catch and remove forcing me to start over finding another way around the restrictions so I can load another mission up with bosses to kill so I can get 5 or more levels per run.
2. Aside from obtaining levels quickly, which is no different that the AE farms OR the old sewer runs in ATLAS which the trial is based on, I did them to obtain the 4 buffs I mentioned which have added me in the other things I have done with the character since my damage output, accuracy, defenses and recharge were increased.
3. After obtaining all 4 buffs and the three available badges, which I got on the very first trial, I didn't continue to run the same trial again and again until I was a level 20, 30, 40 or whatever . .. I moved on to other things. This same question could be applied to why do I do the same Incarnate trials over and over.. Answer because they are the only ones available and I am trying to get my all of my incarnate characters to a point where they have all tier 4's slotted. When new trials or at some point solo incarnate content emerges I will do those as well.
4. At least until around level 5 or 6 the only other alternative is the new tutorial arcs that have completely replaced the old arcs from the likes of Azuria. I ran those on Test and while they do a decent job of showing a brand new player how to play the game I have been here for going on 6 years. I don't need a mission that requires me to find the train station and take a "ride" to King's Row. The Trials or street hunting are the only other alternatives and .. the whole point of this thread was .. there are ways to get through the 1-20 levels without camping in AE.
5. I enjoy teaming and at the moment even 50 (+X) players have been known to show up to try out the new sewer trial. Also for what may be the first time the LFG feature is working... it is possible to simply join the queue and in a short amount of time, without the need to advertise or send tells, find yourself on a team inside the mission!
I sort of figured this thread might start up the old flames.. Look I don't care HOW you play the game. I play it the way I enjoy and if you are perfectly happy living in the AE building from 1-50 and doing the same few missions again and again.. Have fun. Personally I get very tired of doing repeats. While I do a lot of I Trials I frequently take entire weeks off from them and play my lower level characters because i just can't do another BAF or Lambda run. My point to this was simple.. A lot of players say, or at least claim, that the only reason they farm their characters is because the old content was too slow and they had seen it all too many times. They hated the lower levels and wanted to get through them quickly and on to more interesting content at higher levels. Well I took a brand new toon and in less than 4 hours of actual in game time she is now 1 bar away from level 20. That's 4 hours of play time scattered over 2 seperate days and my character is just about ready to do her cape and 2nd costume mission and head off to Talos. Essentially I could skip the dreaded Synapse completely and after a radio mission or two to hit 20 level head to IP and run a nice quick Sister Psyche and get a couple levels and I just did a Moonfire on a different character that took exactly 1 hour and 2 minutes to complete and that character went from 23 to 25 level. So .. it's very possible I could run those two and in 3 and a half more hours of play time be a level 25. In short it is quite possible that I can get my toon from level 1 to 25 in 8 hours or less of play time scattered over 3-4 days.
And now.. back to playing the game .. Let the flame war continue LOL -
Alright all you AE'ers, PLers, farm till I drop cause .. I hate the low level stuff and just want to get my character leveled and past all that junk below 20...
Created brand new Beam/Time corruptor on Exalted and ran through the Death from below trial 4 times. Total time committed approximately 1.5 hours. level achieved 12.
Took 12 level corruptor to Steel Canyon and joined a Posi 1 followed by Posi 2 task force. All members were in the normal range of the tf (no 50's just looking for a quick badge) and even when we could stealth we tended to at least kill most. Total time committed 51 minutes for Posi 1 1 hour 19 minutes for Posi 2 and around 15 minutes in between to recruit and grab a drink, bio, ect. approximate total time: 2.5 hours level achieved 19 (about 1 bar short of 20).
Not counting level 2 which I earned in the tutorial that amounts to 17 levels earned in around 4 hours. There was a break between earning level 12 and starting the Posi tfs so I did have about 5 bars of Patrol xp to help get from 12 to 13 faster. Aside from that I did not use any XP boosters and we did not alter the mob size or difficulty to increase xp earned. Both Task Forces had the maximum of 8 members but several of the DFB trials had only 4 or 5 members along. By doing the death from below trials I earned buffs to my damage, accuracy, recharge and defense which are still active until I reach 22 or 7 days pass. I earned all of the badges offered by the trials, all three badges awarded by doing Posi 1 and 2 and additionally earned badges for defeating COT mages (Soul Binder 200 defeats) and clockwork gears ( Gearsmasher 100 defeats) both of which are required for different accolades with powers.
Now the question is.. if 17 level in one evening of casual play is not fast enough for you... why do you even bother.
I fully intend to continue this procedure with this character and will seek out a Synapse TF next which will most certainly put me above 20 level. Then by doing Sister Psyche and Moonfire I will put myself in a position to do Citadel and approach level 30 without ever doing a single mission from any contact.. Undoubtable earn additional badges toward accolades..
Just by completing Posi 1/2, Synapse, Sister P and Citadel I'll have 4 of 6 require for task force commander accolade. Sister Psyche can potentially give me enough Freakshow Bosses for Tank Buster (required for the Freedom Phalanx accolade .. along with Gearsmasher which I have already earned). Moonfire will get me close enough to do some street hunting to get the Silver Bullet (100 council warwolves) and Slayer (110 council vamprii) required for the Atlas medallion accolade. Then with a little time flying around to get the history and exploration badges I need and a few time travel mission to pick up instance badges required I will be able to increase my end and hit points. And not one of the 4 other task forces i mentioned requires more than 1.5 to 2 hours of time so lets say at most I need to play my corruptor another 6.5 to 7 hours and I will be at or near level 30. That's 28 levels in less than 12 hours. Even if someone only plays about 4 hours a night and only over weekends (friday, saturday and sunday) they can easily be level 30 after 1 weekend of play.
Of course I understand that's not level 1 to 50 in 2 hours like the old AE'ers we had back when it first went live and heaven forbid you'll actually have to leave Atlas Park and explore the confines of Steel Canyon, Skyway, Ind. Port, Striga Island and Talos in order to join those task forces but hey you'll see new and exciting things, get to meet new people and maybe JUST maybe have fun instead of just racing to see how fast you can get to level 50.
I always say there is no right or wrong way to play this game and if sitting in AE doing the same tired farm mission again and again and again is your idea of fun.. enjoy. Personally I prefer to get out and move around a bit more LOLEnjoy the game how ever you play but stay open to new and even some OLD ideas!

Quote:As I left school some 45 years ago I find this sort of writing to either be done by a person whose first language is not English or someone who is to lazy to use the spell check, and they wonder why so many of the younger generation cannot read or write no disrespect to you Samuel as i know you are just using this as an example.Perhaps I,m just an old fashioned fogey but seeing the way my granddaughters are being taught with this "new phonetic" way of teaching they are having trouble reading and spelling. So the fact you have 15 and 16 year olds having trouble with the simple stuff in life is no surprise.
Okay the first problem I have with threads like this is... We are playing a game. I understand there are problems out there with the education system but I have actually seen posts on these forums where someone said one of the criteria that they use in picking team mates is "correct use of the english language and correct spelling". We have players from all over Europe and for many English is, as mentioned above, not their first language. Also while I play on Virtue and rarely see times when team building is a huge problem I have seen post here from players on other, less populated, servers complaining about the difficulty in finding teams or team mates. Are we really willing to pass on a player that MAY play the game exceptionally well simply because they didn't spell a few words right or use the proper phrasing in a sentance.
Then in the post above Prof mentions SPELL CHECK... I'm sorry did I miss that patch somehow. I don't recall any portion of this game that allows me to spell check my tells, broadcast or even the text I may usein creating a story in AE. And since I have neither the time or desire to draft everything I type in word and then run a spell and grammar check before cutting and pasting.. I know for a fact I have posted some really interesting lines of gibberish in game during a battle and even when just standing around chatting. Sadly I admit that years of reliance on spell check have degraded my spelling skills and I was never the greatest english student so my grammer is not always perfect... But I have 5 and a half years of play time and there isn't a task force, strike force or trial I haven't completed successfully.. many of them multiple times. I have 30 Fifty level characters scattered over 2 account and have played just about every AT there is to level 50. Now did you want me or some noobie on your master of run!
Don't get me wrong I H8 L33t speak as much as anyone and my eyes roll when I see anyone broadcasting they are looking for a H3AL0R or advertsing they are one BUT .. aside from the blaringly obvious posts that leave you wondering just how old that person actually is .. are we playing a game or taking a PHD english course.
As for acronyms ... The vast majority of the player base, myself included, uses them to speed things along and I see no problem with that either. and yes I have seen posts here by people that hate them. YEAH right like you never posted 40 level Blaster LFT or STF LFM. Now if my 16 year old is messing up her home work with bad spelling or bad grammer I am going to do something about it. If a player in game, myself included, typos a word or two in a broadcast.. WHO CARES! and if you do maybe you need to find an on line game that focuses on the proper use of the english langauge not one that's about super heroes and super villians. LOL try to relax and have fun. -
I have several MMs and enjoy all of them.. okay this is going to definately show a bit of favortism for 2ndary powers LOL
Demon/DM 50 level
Thugs/DM 50 Level (incarnate)
Bots/DM 50 level (incarnate)
Merc/Dev 45 level
heheh Like i said I have a thing for Dark Maisma.. I like the debuffs .. even my heal debuffs enemies and my rez is a powerful disorienting tool. I have told team mates before I hope you have awakes because I can't promise my rez will be charged if you die.. I will use it to daze mobs long before that happens!
as for the primary.. Demons was a lot of fun to play but Bots does the most damage in my opinion. Thugs is great too and Siege and Northstar usually look quite suprised when they both rez and suddenly in additon to my normal band of 6 minions ..a swarm of gang members arrives and starts clubbing them to death. LOL I have also used Gang war during the prisoner escape phase with a great deal of success .. of course then its not available to suprise the two AVs... if it is we are taking WAYYYY too long hehehe
Hey play whatever you like. I recently crossed my mercs/Dev over from infinity to virtue and turned her into a hero (Always did find it a little funny for a villain to be running around with soldiers) Been a while since I played her and most people bad mouth the set as under powered but she can solo anything including Malta! -
Quote:Well gee..I AM sorry. Next time I will totally do my research on the background of every single person that posted something I do not agree with, just because there is the off chance I might hint at something that is not true.
No wait, I wont do that.
Nowhere did I accuse you of playing favourites. I merely said that for that specific example..you were turning it into a side vs side issue. Now, I could just have read it that way, maybe you didn't mean it like that at all (and I will assume you didnt, going by your fast denial of any favourite) but it still sounds like you did.
Listing all the examples about how red and blue side arent equal doesnt change that. I never said they were equal that all either. I agree with you. But if you are going to bringing up a QoL issue, and then provide a specific example of how the other side doesnt have it..well..you cant blame people for thinking your picking a side.
Simply say..'The missions to unlock the stores in paragon city are annoying and a big slow down if your enhancements turn red mid team or tf. Can we remove them?'
Look I am not trying to start a flame war.. lord knows enough of those break out here anyway. What I was pointing out is I am not some Blue sider that has barely ever even seen red side and just wants everything NOW.
I used that example because frankly I think they put a lot more time, effort and good thought into the design of RED side. And when I see something stupid blue side I can site examples of how much better it is when I am playing a villain..
ZONES... remember I started back before anyone on either side knew what a raptor pack was let alone had one. When I crossed over, out of necessity, and started playing heroes I couldn't believe every single stupid contact I had would send me running to the train because if you were LUCKY they might actually have 1 or 2 missions in the same zone they were standing in. Blue side has far too many zone and while I will miss Galaxy City.. I'd be very happy to see Skyway disapper as well, along with IP.... for every one zone that handles a set of levels Red side for some reason they felt the need to have 2 Blue side and half of them rarely see anyone unless a TF or contact from THE OTHER ZONE makes them go there. Red side has no goofy under used hazard zones.. Since radio missions arrived almost no one lives in the hollows these days and very few ever hit Perez or Boomtown except to badge or if a specific mission forced them to go there.
Epics.. I have learned, finally, to love and enjoy my warshade but I can promise you I will never see a PB to level 50.. I have 3 SoA and every one of them is a 50 (+3). I like the options they afford me better, enjoy the powers they have much more (I have SoAs that never even took a patron power because I wanted more of what was available in my primary and secondary). And of course, story line or not, my SoAs don't have an entire race of bounty hunters showing up where ever they go trying to kill them with special weapons that at lower levels can take em down with 1 or 2 shots.. and on teams I don't need to apologize, not that I every do, for the Crystals that appear and need to be destroyed before the entire team wipes.
PvP access.. okay I am NOT a pvper but can anyone explain to me why .. A 50 level villain that wants to go to Recluse's Victory walks inside Recluse's HQ and goes through the portal in GRANDVILLE but a 50 level hero has to run all the way back to Atlas Park.. where he or she arrived as a one or two level to get in. My Villain want to go to Warburg.. She heads to St Martial .. a hero wants in there they head to King's Row.. DUH!
Contacting contacts.. with very few excpetions, leonard being one grrr, just about every villain contact will give you a phone number and you can start getting missions from them that way after 1 maybe 2 missions tops. hero side I have had some contacts that I have finished an entire arc before they FINALLY decided i was trustworthy enough to have their phone number. All goes back to that what other way can we think of to make them waste time thing I mentioned.. I just finished the mission the contact in Steel Canyon gave me here in perez park Now I get to run all the way back to Steel .. so they can give me a new mission in ATLAS PARK.. ggrrrrr I just ran through there on the way back to Steel! lol and until higher levels even before a contact red side gives you a phone number.. they are still sitting in the same zone! You may need to run back there but you don't need to take 2 ferry trips just to get near them.
There are a ton of things that heroes have I wish villains did but the basic design of the Rogue Isles makes so much more sense than Paragon City I sometime use what I see and LIKE there to point out flaws on the other side.. since I have grown to enjoy being blue side as well. -
Okay before anyone else does it .. time for an update but not a detraction.. Tonight I discovered that low and behold the Seed hunters in First Ward sell inspirations. Okay so at least I dont need to run to the hospital constantly now BUT..
there are only 2 seed hunters in the entire zone and I have already completed the arcs from 5 different contacts.. IF those contacts, like all the ones in the red and blue side, sold inspirations I'd have many more places to obtain them that wouldn't force me to go half way across the zone at times. Suggestion is still valid.. First ward contacts should be selling me inspiration .. I am helping them. Heck I helped put the Palatine into power and helped Noble Savage, in a round about manner, become her new Hetman.. by eliminating the old one (OHH sorry that should have come with a spoiler alert LOL). Why am I forced to run off to a seed hunter to get what i need to do their missions... FIX IT LOL -
Quote:Ummm I play both Heroes and Villians and wasn't trying to make any sort of red vs blue issue. The fact is that more often then not, unless they don't have one available at the time, people don't even bother with the -1 you suggest. They simply take the stupid mission, they hit auto complete, and go on about their business. Or lets take the case of the mission from Grey Falcon in PI.. no one goes in and defeats all those Rikti.. well I won't say no one.. there may be some that do. But the majority that realize that all they need to do to complete is find the glowie and click it.. do exactly that and never battle a single thing. And how many people actually run out and defeat 30 Nemesis to earn their 4th costume from the tailor in FF.. or do they take it, auto complete and then get on with designing their new outfit! While I do agree with most of the other points you make here, I dont agree with this at all. You are turning it into the whole blue vs red side issue. Is the fact that you have to do a mission to buy stuff annoying? Sure. Does it REALLY take any longer than 5 minutes? I seriously doubt it. Set your diff to -1, no bosses, away you go.
If you really want to bring this up as an example of hero-vill inequality...how about you talk about the BIGGEST example of that? Patron Arcs. An entire pool power set locked out behind missions (If they still are with i21, I have not looked, but its been that way forever). At least 5-8 missions, some containing elite bosses, that have to be done, just to get epic powers..while namby pamby heroes just got theirs handed out.
And for the record, cause I know someone would bring it up..I really LIKE patron arcs. One of my favourite bits of content. But, it still isnt fair to redside.
Is it unfair that heroes get handed their epics while villians have to work for them ..NO not one bit. Then again Like you i actually enjoy most of those arcs anyway and it is another arc and another chance for merits so I am not that concerned. NOW you want to talk a real issue.. lets talk about the disparity in earning reward merits. How many TFs do heroes have as compared to villain SFs. And while villains start getting awarded merits for completing arcs a bit sooner.. almost all their arcs are shorter and award a lot less. Things got a little "fairer" (if that even applies) when Posi was split and stopped awarded a ton of them to anyone over level 10. But a hero can quickly accumulate a lot more merits just running TFS while a villian is stuck doing tiny arcs for 2 or 3 merits again and again and again.
Lets talk about the Midnighter club.. Heroes can start the arc and gain access to the club at level 10 and begin day jobbing there.. allowing them to earn accolades that allow them to heal and rez team mates. Villains can't enter as members until level 30. Something I have also pointed out here in the past.. with no sucess in swaying anyone to change it.
Would you like me to continue....I STARTED on COV going on 6 years ago and only began playing heroes because my old PC couldn't deal with the lag after they added Grandville. my name here on the forums is the name of the first character I ever played and enjoyed .. My merc/dev MasterMind. I have 18 50 + level incarnate and 5 of those are Villains/Rogues and all belong to the same VG which I run. the rest are scattered between 3 hero SGs.
Find out a bit more about a person before you start accusing them of playing favorites. MY favorite character, and my badger/main is my SoA Crab and I earned the right to create her by leveling another villain to 50 level.. not 20!
And I stand by my suggestion.. all those missions are is busy work to make it take longer for us to get what we need and get back to the game. It's left over junk from when Cryptic and JACK where here and they felt the need to find anything to slow us down or we might get to 50 and get bored and quit. RIGHT jack and I now have 29 fifty levels on Virtue, and counting, and have been playing for over 5 and a half years.. so much for the validity of that idea. -
Darn it! i knew i was forgetting something..
3. Please allow the contacts in First Ward to offer us imspirations. We work so hard for them and they give us nothing LOL Okay kidding aside I am up to the 4th contact in First ward and so far the only place I have found to buy inspirations is from the combat nurse in the hospital... Are they contacts.. or not! -
Just a couple quick suggestions now that issue 21 has been out a while and I have been able to enjoy it.
1. Fix the ouroborus time travel mission that awards Negotiator. The problem, and solution, are simple... The contact listed is Maurice Feldon who is, or was, a contact in Galaxy City. While the zone is still accessable through the ouro portal Maurice isn't so every time you try to do that mission through time traveling a message appears saying it can not fullfil that request. There are several other contacts that award the same mission simply list one of them instead of Maurice and I think the problem will be solved!
2. Fix the Death from Below Trial so it awards credit for the enemies defeated toward defeat badges. This isn't a huge issue but I noticed after running the trial several times with my new TM/BW Corruptor that she did not get credit toward the defeat badges for a single one of the Lost or Hellion bosses her teams defeated. Prior to AE and this issue a lot of us used the sewers, which is where I believe the idea for the trial came from, to quickly and easily level our characters to 6 or 7 and then we headed off to King's Row to run radios and get our Raptor Packs. I like this even better but at least back then if we defeated a lost Boss in the sewer it was one less we had to defeat later to earn the badge. Sure I imagine if the trial awards credit a FEW insane badgers will do it over and over until they get their badges.. then again if they are crazy enough to do it.. who CARES! LOL
Okay done complaining... Overall I have to say I love this issue. The new trial is long(er), (more) challenging, and a lot of fun.. Might want to address toning down that confuse at the ned just a tad LOL But I have enjoyed myself even failing an Underground Trial... I have succeeded on 5 ot 7 attempts at the Keyes Island trial and didn't even enjoy the ones I was able to complete!I don't know who came up with the arcs for First Ward but I am presently running my corruptor through them and love the story line and the new enemies. The Awakened are a bit of a PITA but then no one has a lot of defense or resistance to mez. Still my partner and I have managed to complete most of the arcs there and will hopefully finish later tonight. Now.. When exactly am i going to be able to get my hands on Street Justice... I loved playing it on Beta and then it just vanished. I want it NOW!
