If there is no way to access the server, there's no way to transfer. If the devs haven't addressed it by now, they probably won't until the next double xp weekend. Anyone that had concerns about being able to transfer had the opportunity to do so ever since the announcement came about potential lockdown of the servers. (and yes, it was short notice, but it was still a couple days ago).
As stated previously, and probably buried by now, the smoothing of the XP curve will start next week, which will make leveling faster for everyone at any time. It's not double inf and prestige, but inf is easier to come by now than before inventions anyway, and anyone with a large SG base doesn't have anything to spend prestige on but rent. -
Uses the letter A gratuitously, confounding proper spelling.

Seriously I have to agree with DJ here. I think Lighthouse needs to be more specific. Yes there have always been constraints on server population meaning if the server population reaches X then the server will be grayed out. However he is stating that if the Devs feel that a server is stressed out they will manually lock it. Exactly what constitutes this stress. I think you OWE us an answer. We are after all paying to play this game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait...they OWE you an answer? Nobody owes you anything. Your montly fee doesn't guarantee that you'll be able to play anytime and anywhere you'd like. See the fine print if you think I'm wrong. We are playing an ONLINE game. One that is subject to every hindrance and obstacle that comes with that, namely server load. You play on Freedom or Virtue exclusively. Ok, fine. That was your choice, and you'll have to live with the consequences of making a home on the busiest servers. Other chose to play on less populated servers for various reasons, and they live with the fact that there just aren't as many people around at any given time to team with.
Lighthouse has told us as much as we need to know about what's coming this weekend...probably as much as the devs know at this point. What good would it do to know exactly how many people it takes to lock the server? LH stated that the number can change, and probably will as they examine the stress on the new hardware. There was no proclaimation that locking the servers WOULD HAPPEN FOR SURE, only that it MIGHT HAPPEN IF THE PERFORMANCE WENT TOO FAR SOUTH, BUT WE ARE HOPEFUL THAT OUR UPGRADES WORKED AND WE WON'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING BUT ENJOY THE WEEKEND.
Now that I have that off my chest, I have a suggestion for those on Freedom and Virtue:
If you have more than one account running at the same time during this weekend (and both/all logged in characters are on Freedom/Virtue at the same time), maybe it would be in your best interest to just stick to one at a time, so that others who might have the potential to be locked out would get a chance to play. I would imagine much drama and nastiness would ensue if people found out you had account A, B, and C logged in to farm when someone's plans for the weekend got thwarted when their friend couldn't log in at all. Now, if there are actually others playing those accounts themselves (like a sibling or child), there's nothing to be done about that, but if its just you, it may not go so well for you. -
Thanks for your efforts, BillZ. You went above and beyond the call, for sure. I know your guide helped me with my ATI card.
I hope the increase in tech support tickets about ATI issues will prompt them to do some real fixing. -

Not to dwell too off-topic, but when I win the lotteryone of these keyboards will be mine.... right after I get the "new" laptop.
To bring this back on-topic, maybe one of the dev cubicles should be equipped with a real hardcore rig
[/ QUOTE ]
I had seen that guy's keyboards before, but never the laptop. Dear lord, I need me one of those laptops. That is gorgeous, and cooler than words can properly convey
[/ QUOTE ]
I wonder how it does with heat dissipation. My laptop gets hot now, and it's not surrounded by wood.
The gears-under-glass top is awesome. -
I'm at work so I can't check this, but for the prestige bonus, does each member get 20k added to their total, or is there just a big bump in the total prestige? (not that it really matters how, just curious
)
-
I have a feeling, EvilRyu (and others with spammer concerns), that they can already find out every name on every server. All they'd need to do is use the name-check feature that has been in the game for months. Wouldn't be too hard to whip up a program that just generates names to search for, and those that get hit as already taken get put into a file for later spamming. How else would they be so good at getting names of characters that are rarely played? I've got more spam mail on my neglected toons than on the ones that I rotate through regularly.
Concern over having your name on a list is a bit late, at this point, I'm afraid. They've already got it, most likely, and have sold it to other sites. Whatever the devs are cooking up to combat it is the only thing thats gonna stem the tide of spammers. -
[ QUOTE ]
I would much rather all of this info to be disabled by default and only turned on when I turn it on for that toon. Otherwise we will all get spammed I dont see why no one is agreeing with me on this. Things are bad enough due to them taking a very slow approach to the whole spamming issue. All in favor of /ignore_spammer sending electric bolts thru the keyboards say Aye!!
[/ QUOTE ]
Ummm...the features being discussed are not enabled, and we get spam anyway. What's the big panic about?
If it connects my characters to this site, that would be very cool. It'd make it easier to put names to faces, so to speak. -

My question is..
Since we only have up to 75 members up till the release of Issue 11, then once it goes live, we can get up to 75 more members.. how much time will there be between going from 75 to 150 members before the Dec 10 prestige increase?
I ask because many groups, mine included, aren't just going to take on 75 more people in a very short amount of time. Some of us run very structured groups that many will not get the full benefits because we just don't take any and all comers. So, it seems that the only people that will benefit this prestige increase will be the prestige farming groups, rather than the RP groups..
Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining. I'm just trying to figure out how to fill an RP only groups roster to 150 before the prestige grant.

Start recruiting now, and put the extra people on notice that they will be invited to the SG when the limit cap is increased, or shortly after. You can have a bunch of folks lined up to join at a moments notice. -

ok my question is could this be all because Cryptic is working on the new marvel MMO and it created a conflict in titles or copyright? need to forgive the blondeness.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you believe the news about Marvel UO, (whatever little there is of it), copyright issues are not really a problem at all. The Marvel game is supposedly going to be much different than Co*, in style and gameplay mechanics.
One of the interviews instead pointed to the division of resources as the biggest factor for making the move. Both NCSoft and Cryptic wanted Co* to have all the attention and resources that it deserves, and for Cryptic to continue to operate the way they were, with two smaller-than-necessary teams and management that was torn between making games and running a company, the sale was the only way to make sure the game survives and flourishes like we all want it to. -
Sometimes, watching TNA these days, with all the retreads, makes me think I'm watching WCW from about 12 yrs ago. Hall and Nash....the Steiners....a Macho Man wannabe....Jeff Jarrett....Raven.... Sting
The small-time-production reminds me of when WCW was struggling in its infancy too. You kind of felt dirty watching wrestling that wasn't WWF. (Of course, I also watched NWA and UWA wrestling, and got to see the Von Erichs, the Freebirds, and other great wrestlers in matches that were just as good as anything they have now.)
A question for y'all: When you see guys like Flair, or Sting, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, et al. still wrestling way past when they were at their peak, do you still root for them, or do you secretly wish they'd go away before they embarass themselves? How many mid-to-late 40's wrestlers do we need? And does having all the oldtimers around speak to the dearth of quality talent in the younger generation of wrestlers? Do we need Sgt Slaughter putting on the old tights and getting his [censored] beat by some punk? I'd rather remember the legends the way they were than what they've sunk to. -

So here is my hope. The new merger makes it so they have a buck or two to drop on advertising.
One commercial during NBC's "Heroes" would do a lot for this game, player/subscriber wise.
And don't say it wouldn't. Cuz it's working for WoW.
[/ QUOTE ]
/Agreed. This game has changed a lot since launch. It's time to show off some of the shineys again. A little more buzz wouldn't hurt. -
I'm sorry, Positron, if my fellow players choose to piss in your cheerios. I guess they can't find the numerous threads that have been started, died, and resurrected, dealing with every issue that continues to be mentioned.
Thanks for the game mechanic of the paper mishes, which was ported to blueside. It makes those periods between contacts a lot more fun.
Thanks for the cutscenes. I hope we can see more of them on both sides.
Thanks for Masterminds. They are a blast!
Hopefully by the third anniversary, one of my villians will be 50. -
Spent about three or four hours in PI with my 50, teamed with one other person. I had two doors to go back and forth between, and my partner had another door. We occasionally had someone run through and click some doors for a sec, but no one stayed and camped.
I got two full trays of tier 3 insps which went into my base storage (Yay!), lots of good arcane salvage (no rares, but still good stuff), a few common IO recipes, 19 costumes (ghost pirate has a parrot. I wants a parrot!!! Please, Jay?) and two of the costume badges. The lag forced me to log off, but I'll be back. I also got two full sets of costume slot salvage, plus about 10 other pieces, which was a bigger haul than I ever got last year.
I love how the costumes that have jetpacks/flightpacks actually fire like they should when you fly. Very cool.
Eochai seemed to be spawning quite a bit in PI while I was there. Not sure if its intentional or not...might have been due to the heavy participation.
Just for a QoL suggestion: The city zones need to be decorated for Halloween. Jack o Lanterns on the porches....maybe some stuff in the windows.....cobwebs...stuff to make it seem like the holiday. The winter event has snow in some areas...why not Halloween too? -
If you have access to an SG teleporter, the one for Nerva drops you on Granny Bedlam's little island.
-
None of the events have been longer than 2 weeks, unless they decided to restart one (Winter event from last year). The only thing that lasts a month is the "log in during this time and get an anniversary badge" stuff.
Anyway, with Issue 11 nigh upon us, you really don't want the event lasting that long. Then you'll have more time to go on test when they open it up to everyone. -

The devs say that they have a system for choosing beta testers, but they don't want to reveal what it is for fear of people trying to work the system.
However, if you beta-tested I9 or I10, then chances are you'll be in the I11 beta.
[edit] oh, and none of the testers are allowed to post anything about the beta because of an NDA
[/ QUOTE ]
Well I'm assuming that the only way you wuold get a invite to beta test the issues is if you have already done it before. so that basically jsut cancels out everyone except the select few they chose before. Reguardless of what else you have beta tested (in some people's cases beta testing the game before it launched)
Which is silly imo.
[/ QUOTE ]
The whole selection of beta testers is pretty silly to start with. I'm fairly certain I know two of the requirements, and they are pretty stupid, imo.
But I've given up on Crypic/NC on changing this policy.
[/ QUOTE ]
So actually playing on test more than once in a great while is a silly reason for being invited to closed beta? Giving concise, useful bug reports about what you encounter in the test server is a silly reason to beta test the game? Would you give someone a backstage pass to a concert if the person never bought one of their CD's or merchandise, if you had the choice to give it to someone else who would appreciate it?
Sorry. You have to show you want it before they give it to you. Asking nicely isn't good enough. -
The thing I got from her answers more than anything else was this: Be willing to start doing whatever they ask you to do. Do it as best as you can, and learn as much about everything you can get your hands on. You never know when opportunity meets your preparation, and you end up doing more than you ever thought you could.
Thanks for the inspirational, War Witch. Keep up the hard work on making City of * better for all of us. -

/yes or /signed answers don't usually need further explaination. If you answer that way, you don't have anything to debate with the OP, but that doesn't mean your post is fluff. It means that the idea you are agreeing with has another person backing it, so that if enough support is gained by it, the idea might get passed along to someone who can actually use it.
Simply saying no (/jranger) or /unsigned, without anything to back your dismissal, does not help make the original idea or statement better. Not responding at all does just as well as saying no, so you might as well not say anything at all if you don't have anything constructive to add to a thread about the game itself . That is what ExLibris is trying to get across.
There is a place for threadjacking, nonesense, and fluff. And there is a place for serious discussion about the game....you know..the reason why this forum exists in the first place?
I would also like to add quote trees on the list of "watchlist offenses". You don't need to have a whole thread's worth of past quotes in your posts if you are only responding to what the last person said. And empty quote trees are just as meaningless.
If we monitored ourselves better, there wouldn't be a cry for more moderation from the community site folks. -
Server population (at the moment) = level of lag.
The colors mean both things.
Posi said to-mah-to, we say to-may-to. -
The other reason there was no mention of the Weapons Customizing in the article could be that the interviewer didn't do their homework and never asked that question. Stranger things have happened.
It's nice knowing some semi-concrete dates for things upcoming. God knows we'll get an email about the Halloween event two days after it starts -
Thanks, Drake! I missed that thread somehow.

sorry i got one more question i couldnt find on the other forum, has there been some kind of time frame when the transfer is available life a named month preferably
[/ QUOTE ] Most likely (no promise here) before October - if just for the Halloween event.
[/ QUOTE ]
Again...Has anyone officially announced that there is gonna be a Halloween event this year, or are we just assuming that there will be one? They haven't done it every year. Just wondering...trying not to be a downer, but it irks me when people start throwing rumors and wishes around like they are facts. It gets people's hopes up and when things don't happen, the forum is flooded with crying about something that was never announced in the first place.
If there is an announcement, or "this should be happening" response from a dev, than ignore the previous rant.
On the subject of the patch...I was in game 5 min before I got to test out the new /ignore_spammer command. Didn't get an error message, so I guess it works. -

So if I have a friend that recently played CoH, he can come in for free and play a bit?

If they had a paid account, and not a friend code, then yes.
