Everything sounds great. Love that the Devs have a relatively set schedule for the Pocket D visit. It always seemed so chaotic before.
The in-game chaos was pretty fun last time. Looking forward to that as well.
Viva, CoH! -
If they can be done so fast, why not have two in one day? With such a short window, and the zone cap, it's even easier to miss one. People could switch roles if they choosed (support one raid, assault the next, etc). It's probably easier to stick to the known time for Hami Raids if you want to increase their frequency. Venturing out to other nights might not have the same results, though the occasional impromtu raid does happen.
More food for thought-- -
I think, Avatea, a little clarification of how the calculations are supposed to work would be helpful.
Vet time is supposed to be total time paid + free months from any purchases/upgrades - unpaid (inactive) months, correct? I know it was this way before you changed the system, but is it still this way now?
Let's say someone got a badge for months that shouldn't have counted (any inactive period between active periods). Going forward, will they continue to be the extra badge ahead of where they should be, or will there not be a badge rewarded until the calculated time matches the correct badge reward? Some people I know that got extra badges are wondering when their next vet badge reward will be. -
Welcome to the Red side, Black Pebble.
Lots of good ideas already mentioned, so I'll just sum up my thoughts about future marketing thusly:
Focus 80% or more of your energies marketing/promoting/whatever you want to call it, on putting this game into people's hands that have never seen it or saw it 5 years ago and forgot it's still around. The present game (including GR in this thought) is lightyears ahead of what the game was in its inception. Do everything in your ebil marketing powers to emphasize this to all media outlets, which includes (but not limited to) updating reviews, screenshots, videos, etc. We don't have to advertise at WoW levels, but there's a place for CoH.
The rest of your time is for "the choir." All of us that already play and enjoy the game. The shineys are nice, but it's the game that keeps us around. The Dev team does the things that keep us here, but Marketing can throw us treats to show us appreciation.
And please, good sir, keep the in-game advertising out. The second you gave us the ability to turn it off and not look at it was the second you sent the message to any potential advertisers that they would be better served spending their advertising dollars elsewhere. If you can't guarantee a certain number of people will see said advertising, it's not worth doing.
Thanks for putting a stake in the hearts of all the naysayers. Hopefully this won't be the only time we hear from your side of the team. Looking forward to what's coming for Going Rogue and beyond. -
There was no reason to level bump a Demon MM. They already know how masterminds work. Plenty of ways for people to get to 40 or higher in a short amount of time. The powers that are unique to the set all come at lower levels (all the whip powers, Hell on Earth, etc.)

Quote:I only recently came back after a year away. Among other things, I was disappointed to see many things that were 'right around the corner' for AE still in the 'real soon now' category (like properly functioning custom powers).
To see yet another problem where the devs place the fun of folks using the system right below the 'exploit' of those using the system wrong makes it very clear this is not a new design philosophy, and one that will be in place for the forseeable future.
AE is the only reason I came back. So.
I have too many characters to give away all of my stuff, though I did wipe my arcs.
There is using the system, and "using" the system. If players are doing things with the current set up that fall too far outside of what the intent of the system is (no matter if it's PvP, or AE, or something in PvE), the Devs have full rights and responsibility to take care of those outliers. If you choose to live in that gray area, don't be upset when your toy gets taken away or changed.
If you don't have the patience to hang with AE as it goes through its evolution, there's no hope for you. Every MMO changes, and not everyone is happy with any change. Fact of life. To expect otherwise is just gonna make your brain hurt. -
Quote:You shouldn't be. Anyone who claims to be a storyteller and "loves AE" shouldn't care one whit about the rewards their arcs give. If the author is worried that no one will come play cause it offers no reward, then perhaps you should write a better story. As soon as a) your arc becomes normalized due to nerfs, or b) another exploit that is even easier than your own comes along, players that only want reward won't be playing your arc anyway.I'm beginning to wonder if I'm the only person who doesn't necessarily care how much XP my arcs provide?
The system isn't dead. It's just slowly slipping back into the domain of those for whom it was originally conceived and designed: Those that want to tell a good story. If that means that only a fraction of the entire playerbase is using it, that's just peachy. They're they ones that are enjoying it, and they'll continue to do so as long as there are stories to tell. The players that gamed the system for reward can just go back to the PvE portion of the game and continue on their merry farming way and everyone will be happier for it.
Calling for the Devs to just scrap their years of work on it because you can't gain full xp for a gimped mission would be funny if it weren't sad. Should they give up on PvP, or bases, as well, following your logic? How about shutting down the Rogue Isles once all the red players move over to Praetoria/Paragon? Let's follow this to its conclusion. See how silly it sounds?
Those that care will adapt. Those that don't adapt didn't care much in the first place. -
There's nothing more nerdy than pointing out the flaws in a comic that makes fun of comic book characters.
Congratulations, you all win. -
Quote:Since your wife is making cake for people, I'll have some too. I always get a carrot cake for my birthday. If I'm lucky, it's one my mom made.Oh, now see, this is just asking for a 'j' and a 'ranger' together, but since that option is sadly unavailable I'll have to mail you a piece of my wife's carrot cake instead.
Extra cream cheese frosting, hold the raisins, please. -
Pro tip: Use the Ask a Question feature in the NCSoft account page (not an in-game petition). I've had to petition for a vet badge the last two times, and both times I went directly through NCSoft and got it taken care of in a day or two. Since that's where you see your calculated time, it would make more sense to involve the people you're actually sending money to, and not the folks that make the game.

It's called the NDA you agree to when you log into Closed Beta. Players who spill the beans, post screen shots, or otherwise break the NDA get the banhammer, and won't be invited to subsequent beta testings. There's little chance of anyone wanting to gamble losing their Going Rogue beta access by telling us things about Demon Summoning or Ultra Mode.

The Positron TF is shorter than a Dr Q in missions, yet no one is complaining that it's getting redone. (How it's getting redone might be another story, but the fact that it's changing makes the majority happy)
Dr Q has plenty of room to be trimmed and still feel "epic." Also, pre-Ouro portals, it was way more tedious than it is now. It was easily the longest TF in the game in time spent.
To address the "Devs wouldn't withold content" line of thought: Sure they would. If big picture plans change, or if the staff gets reduced (which happened) content that made sense to put in before but no longer fit the current vision could be held back until there was time and/or people to tweak them. There's no way they made such a huge area for such little current content. War Witch, among other Devs past and present, have stated in old posts that the Shadow Shard was an unfinished product, and they've just been waiting for the right time to add to it. If you pay attention to the stories in there, there's a lot of hints about stuff that we haven't seen yet. Why get so in-depth if you don't have stuff in the works, or content to tie into it? -
I like all the parts of it on their face. I was just in the Shadow Shard for a while the other day and thinking of how cool and underutilized it was. So much empty space that could hold a lot of promise.
I think requiring completion of the 4 Shard TFs would necessitate revamping at least the Dr Quaterfield one. It could be reasonably shortened without sacrificing the story of it at all...so many redundant missions. Perhaps insert an AV level encounter in the TFs that don't currently have one as well. -
Aside from the blanket statements about how certain ATs or powersets aren't useful, or won't be wanted, and the hyperbole about how difficult it is to get temp powers or inspirations, I can see your point, but it raises a question:
Why should the game change it's playstyle to fit your needs, and not the other way around? You say you don't like endgame content as it has been done in other games. Even if something similar creeps in to CoH, why does that matter to the rest of us? YOU don't like it, so don't do that content. The rest of the game won't change, and you've been happily rolling alts and reliving content for howeverlong you've been playing. End-game won't change that a bit. Why does every piece of gameplay have to suit every playstyle out there? It's impossible to please everyone. I don't complain when there's attention being given to PvP, when I don't generally do it. I don't pay attention to how other players spend billions on builds for their characters when mine use generics and perform better than average on their own. There's a piece of this game for everyone to enjoy and spend their time in. End Game can be one of those (one that a lot of players have been wanting) and even if it's not executed how you'd like it, so what? You get by fine without it right now. If I were a Dev, I'd try to make the majority happy with new content I'd been working on, but I'd know that there would always be people out there that would hate it. It shouldn't stop me from making what I, and many, many other players, thought was fun. -
Quote:What's your definition of melee?I think my main problem at this point is that it's called "Melee", when, it's not. But really, if that's the only downside, I'm game!!
Mine is close-ranged combat. You don't have to physically touch someone to be in melee. Kinetic Melee fits the bill for me. -
Quote:My PB does just fine in the damage department, thanks. The only change that needs making is to PBs. Who are hugely inferior to the eternal destructive majesty of the Warshades. Bow, mortals! No? Well I'll use your recently desecrated corpse as a ex-human BOMB! Bwahahaha!
Yeah, dont mind me
Also, if I had a nickel for every time someone mentioned being "slapped in the face" by a Dev action, or otherwise butthurt by a change...
All ur nickels are belong to me. -
This would seem to be the simplest way. Why would anyone want to bind trays (outside of a Kheldian)? And now with the ability to have more than three trays open, switching trays is less necessary than before.
-
Nah...if you follow that logic, a bicycle would be made for people with 4 legs.
-
If you have to bribe folks to do something, you're probably better off without them.
-
Thanks for all your hard work, Niv. Your newfound ability to wrangle cats shall serve you well.
See you in game -
Quote:Quoted for irony
Even with other characters who ignore half their powers my problem isn't so much that they are ignoring their power it's that they are so damn smug about it.
Are you confusing "ignoring their secondaries" for "being efficient with their primaries that the secondaries (named such for a reason) are not needed much?"
A ranged blaster is no less formidable than a melee one, and more likely to survive in a big fight. Do you even bother to find out if the person can hold their weight in a team before you "lecture" them, or do you just assume they're gimped in some way and boot them?
There is no power in any set that's mandatory for survival. There are only powers that make a team a) fight better or b) cover for mistakes. If the team leader can't adjust their strategy for the team they've assembled, they've got no business being a leader. Until the game starts rewarding teams for speed, there's no point in worrying about someone's build. -
New Issue dropping is too important to also drop a 2xp weekend on top of it. The potential for bad impressions from a buggy issue are too great, if you're trying to attract old subs back. They'll never do it, and they shouldn't.
Look for a free invite couple weeks after I17 drops (no double xp) if they do another one before Going Rogue.
OP needs to read the forums more, or he'd never have asked in the first place. -
Just noticed that it lists all the different types of ammo as separate powers under the DP powers list...that's kind of lame.
Have fun with the Pew Pew. -
*waiting on the next person to start a "No double xp in AE?" thread
It's the circle of life...brings a tear to my eye. -
Me neither, and I was in first wave of DP. Looks like it's back to the usual way of doing closed beta testing. Very small group first, then adding in folks every week or so.
