  1. As I inch towad another full revolution around the sun (birthday is tomorrow), I start thinking about how old I am and the things that I enjoyed that kids these days (shakes cane vigorously from my front porch rocker ) either recall their older siblings using or never heard of before. Today as I surf the net, I find another example:

The Walkman will no longer be produced once the current supply runs out. In honor of this solemn occasion, I'd like to call upon my fellow gray manes to offer up their favorite memories surrounding this iconic piece of technology. I'll go first.

My favorite memory of using a Walkman was using one to listen to a taped copy of Monty Python's Final Rip-off with my friends as we went camping. We'd share headphones listening to the Dead Parrot sketch and scenes from our favorite movie, The Holy Grail. Every morning we'd hook the Walkman up to some external speakers and blast SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM while we fried up some special ham and woke our fellow camping crew.

    /salute, Sony Walkman.
  2. Some of you guys failed your Sense of Humor check.

    Thank you, Marcian. I lol'd.
  3. I think some folks in this thread are under the mistaken impression that they're buying a car instead of a booster pack.

"10 bucks? Really? (looks at the pack longingly)...I'd pay 8 bucks for it, but not ten..." (waits for salesman to come back with a lower offer)...

This is not a garage sale, folks. The price will not change. You either like the contents enough to fork over the cash, or you don't. If you're quibbling over the price, you like the contents, so just buy it already. If you don't like the contents, why argue over the price? You're not buying it anyway.

It's amazing how something simple can be made into something so complicated.

The threshold for failure/success for a pack is probably a lot lower than the naysayers think, as well. I doubt they had to sell very many Party Packs to break even, and the same applies to this one.

I don't think anyone ever said the new Origins pack was supposed to be on par with the SUPER booster packs, which is what the original Origin-themed packs were. It's supposed to be less.

I'll happily buy this pack. I like the choices. I didn't like the Party Pack, so I didn't buy that. It's really not any more complicated than that.

Packs are not a harbinger of the end of the game.

Packs also serve the purpose of giving artists/programmers something to do on their downtime, rather than having less people working on the meat. That's where the game would suffer. Looking for reasons to keep talented people around is supposed to be a good thing.

In other news, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch has now directed the face of cosplay this spring/summer. She did it once with the Jackie O homage, and now this. Was not expecting that.

Sis - boom - bah, folks.
As long as there's not the accompanying Henchman 21 in bondage gear, I approve.

    CoP reward buff

If rewards were be scaled on average completion rate, as well as time to complete, it might help towards alleviating this issue.
Because there's all kind of reasons why a TF isn't completed that have nothing to do with its difficulty. If you consider how many people finish in your metric for reward, your numbers will be skewed in a different and undesired direction. Completion rate can also be skewed by looking at the same character finishing multiple times. That doesn't mean the task is hard or easy. It could simply mean that character either has a trait/powerset that just trumps what the TF throws at it, or the player has learned the trick of the TF and prefers to only play that character through it. Neither one fairly looks at whether the reward correlates to the task.

Third off: You should just be happy you were not DQ'd when you dropped the pets as you had no way to control them and they started to attack the judges and hosts.
Now I'm sad I missed this. Watching the judges screaming in terror as uncontrollable pets go haywire would have been funny.
  9. I just wish it looked more like a lantern, and less like a rock with glass in the middle and a handle carved out of it.

Won't detract from enjoying the movie, as long as it's not a harbinger of other things they just didn't get right.
  10. Clarifying questions about this:

    Quote:
    • Players are allowed to enter on multiple servers.
Let's say a player wins two different server contests, and therefore has two entries in the finals.

    1) Is this even allowed? If not, the second question is moot.

    2) Will there be allowances made for this person since they won't be able to have both characters logged in at the same time?

I just saw that bit and these thoughts popped in my head, and I was just wondering if these bases will be covered.

Good luck to the participants tonight. Go Champion!

So nice to know that anytime anyone disagrees with the OP they're automatically put into the fanboi category.

The OP is wrong, but that doesn't mean people that think so are defending the Devs.

We've gotten more content because of the existence of booster packs, not in spite of them, and more often. The great part about them is if you don't want it, you don't have to pay for it, and if you do want it, there's no unlocking costumes with badges, there's no unreasonable level-locked temp powers...none of that.
  12. It's not the Christmas shopping season yet. People are saving their pennies for what's coming for the holiday sales.

Also, I'm betting people are using services like GameFly more than before. Harder to justify spending full price on games these days. Do they count used sales, I wonder?

EDIT: The character in question is a level 50 villain (not a rogue), ToTing in Grandville, so this isn't a problem relating to being in the opposing faction's area or being in Praetoria.

Are you teaming with mixed faction folks (Heroes with Vigs or Villains with Rogues)? Solo ToTing? Has your character switched sides and then come back? Or just switched and stayed there? The more details (especially ones about things that have changed in the game since last year's event) you can give, the sooner we find out why it's not working for you.

This. It's no fun when the target is too dense to understand what the facepalms are about.
  15. Nice vids, J_J.

I'm guessing that was Ghost Falcon doing the presentation along with War Witch. He's a nice guy, but he needs to take some public speaking classes or something. Or maybe he had too much coffee before the presentation.

Great to see that the Calvin Scott TF is also back in. I missed it the first time.
  16. I'm trying to figure out how Lara Croft made it on the list of Super Heroes.

Huge tracks of land are not super powers, though they are super.

Indoor missions I can crank everything to the max and hold 60fps no problem.

Step out into grandville, praetoria, or faultline and watch the fps barely hit the 20's if I'm lucky.
Indoor missions don't usually take advantage of many features of Ultra mode, like shadows and the reflective surfaces. One of the reasons why there's a big difference. The Praetorian Labs might, with the shiny walls, but that's about it.

Very awesome more, but just more.
    "Just more?"

Not sure what you're expecting to drop on us so soon after an expansion release. What we know we're getting will be more than enough to tide us over till I20.

They have to balance giving us new tech with adding to the stuff we already have. Otherwise you've got a shallow game.

    Begone, knave!

You can't have Green Lantern without the oath.

Might as well tell Batman to leave the utility belt at home while you're at it.
