If you had a toon on GR Beta for I18, it was granted an automatic Alpha Slot. However, this means you won't be able to do Mender Ramiel's arc. Copy over a fresh toon.
Just wanted to mention that I was able to start the Arc without a freshly copied character. I got into the GR Beta after they removed the Alpha Slot system, so none of my characters have it auto unlocked.

Copying a new character should only apply to those that were in that Beta while the Alpha Slot was being tested.
  4. Scooter is everyone's best recruiting tool (in both senses of the word). Sad part is he probably doesn't even realize it.

I'm not coming down on NCSoft for releasing one of these things every once in a while and for the purchase maybe get some costumes and emotes and a bonus power. At least that was what you got with the origin packs. But lately it's just a few emotes here a few costumes parts here. When it starts to get ticcy tac like that then you know NCSoft is just fishing for bucks.
I'm not going to put NCSoft in the same league as Blizzard, but that company's lame attempts to get cash every which way under the sun is one of the reasons I left for here.
Lucky for us they're not making us buy them all at once. Ten bucks every few months isn't that big a deal, especially when it's optional.

  8. Gotta be some back end stuff as well.

Yay for a fixed badge icon, I guess.
  9. You could always do what Erfworld does. They have artwork with speech bubbles, but then they supplement the regular work with text stories in between. This way you get deeper character development, but the action is not obscured by walls of text.

I'm an excellent writer and know most of the rules of languages, definitions of words, and how to make most of what I say accurate grammatically, but why do so? More often than not someone is going to misunderstand you, not know the definition of a word, or think the the structure of a sentence is wrong because it's outside the normal structure that most of the English speaking world uses even though it is not the only structure acceptable.
So are you advocating dumbing yourself and your communication style down so the rest of the neophytes can understand you?

We should be forcing the bottom to come up, not the other way around. The education system has it all backwards these days.

Structure and phrase might be accepted, but that doesn't make them correct. If there is no one to remind folks that, for example, Qwik is not the right way to spell quick, and EZ is not how you spell easy, then the English language dies a little more. What's left is something different.
  11. Here's my guide:

    1. Make a costume that YOU like.

    2. Don't get bent out of shape if you don't win, and be a gracious loser

    3. If you don't like the way the contest was run or judged, don't participate in future CCs if those people are running/judging, and save the Drama for private tells.

    4. Profit.
  12. It's a 5 part miniseries, so the writing ought to be more than decent, since they have a definite boundary to work with.

If the human characters aren't too annoying, it should be good.
  13. Missions that can't be auto-completed usually have a badge associated with them, or are timed. This has been the case since that feature was put in. I believe that multi-step missions also cannot be auto-completed (like raiding Base A, then Base B, then Base C, where you don't have to call in between each part).

Anyone else think this looks more like Nathan Fillion in Captain America gear? Or possibly a brunette Daniel Craig? If I didn't know Evans was the lead, I wouldn't have guessed it from the picture at all.

Both true.. and yet, not if taken in-game.
I don't expect people in-game to use complete sentences or full words, because in there, there is a limit per message on how much you can say, and people generally understand what things like PI or LGTF means. I was really referring to message boards, and other places where time and space are not as much a concern.
  16. My thing about grammar and spelling, especially in forums and emails, is that people type like they're in a hurry or they're under some sort of character limit. You have all the time in the world to spell things correctly and use proper grammar. I look up words that I'm not sure I spelled correctly before I hit Submit. I want people to understand what I'm trying to say and not get distracted by how I said it.

Like it or not, people base opinions of you and your intelligence on how well you can speak or write before they even look at the content of your post. There are some folks on the forum that might be taken way more seriously than they are, but their inability to use punctuation, capitalization, or even paragraph breaks, dilutes their message. Non-native English speakers have an excuse. The rest of us do not.

I'm not going to correct every mistake I see, but I am going to move you down the ladder a rung or two if you're a chronic language hack.

I'm not surprised Lady Grey was omitted. It doesn't really have anything remarkable about it. No special mechanics or uber hard final battle. It's gimmick is that it's co-op.
  18. "Prove it!" "No, you prove it!" arguments are so much fun.

There's always going to be games that don't work well for anything but a PC, therefore, the PC as a gaming platform will never die completely.

DOOOOM criers will continue to cry in the hopes that one day they'll be proven right, because admitting they were wrong is harder than actually being wrong.
  19. I think the thought some people have about remakes is that they're afraid the newer version will be the only one young people know about, or will ever see.

For example: Went to see Hereafter yesterday. There was a trailer for True Grit (stars Jeff Bridges, comes out holiday time, looks like it might be good, but I digress). When I first heard about this remake, my first thought was "What was wrong with the John Wayne version?" If someone were curious about the movie, I'd point them toward the Duke every time, no matter how good this new one is because it's John Frikken Wayne. There's a bunch of people that have probably never seen any John Wayne movie (and they're missing out, but I digress again), and might think that this year's movie was the original. The people that are old enough to have seen the classics don't want those movies to fade away when newer shiny versions come around, especially when they tell the exact same story. If they took a different approach to telling the story (set Romeo and Juliet in modern times, for example), then a new version is more tolerable, and can be dismissed more easily if it's not any good.

Heh. Did that. I also got real good at knowing where in a particular song to stop the tape and change it's direction to start a song from the beginning on the other side.
  21. The wall you're going to hit with trying to put more content in the base itself is that bases, with all their decorations, are very taxing on the average computer, and that's just when you're in there by yourself. You add a team of people all firing off powers in the same room that already has torches burning and other f/x heavy things going, and you're right back to what made the old base raid system totally unfun for a lot of people.

Until they totally revamp the entire system, I'm not sure what you can add. If it were up to me, I'd put in a reason why SG "A" even wants to invade someone's base, but then that goes to why the original CoP trial wasn't well received. People didn't like the idea of putting in work to obtain something only to have it so easily taken by someone else. If there isn't anything else but PvP in a base, or using the mission computer to instance to other content, what are we really adding that has any value?
