Double the merits is a waste of time?

Can I have yours? You obviously don't care about them.

Being able to run a Sister on your lower characters because there's enough people doing them regularly that you can find a team, and therefore gain credit toward TFC, which is a useful accolade?

Yes, please. I hope they do the same with some of the other lower TFs.

Thankfully the Devs aren't as singularly focused as you seem to be.

CoH is the definitive superhero MMO to be compared to,
Of course it is. There were none before it, and those that have come since launch have come up short.
  3. It's gonna take smarter writing, and a network smart enough to stick with it. The days of million dollar per episode franchises like TNG are over.

The new BSG was the right idea, but the show was made knowing there was a definite end in mind. A serial probably isn't likely to happen.

Personally, I still want the ability to adjust the difficulty down as far as it can be adjusted up. Hooray for -2 to -4 missions!
If you're willing to accept that the rewards you'd be getting for lowering the difficulty that much will be significantly less than they'd be at standard difficulty, I wouldn't mind seeing it either. I don't think enough people want to play the content just for playing the content's sake, however, to make this happen.

As Venture said upthread, if it's too hard at normal difficulty, it's too hard. Forcing it to be easier by shifting the level at which you fight to be able to complete the mission at all means there's something wrong with the design of the missions.

I don't mind dying in the lower levels every once in a while. Sometimes I go a long time between defeats, depending on what AT I'm using. But I'm not everyone else, and what I find fun isn't what others do. I think the Devs have the right idea in Praetoria, but they turned the knob to 11 when it doesn't need to be higher than an 8.

    2010 4Q earnings

I'd love to see the earnings charts of some other long term MMOs thrown together with CoH. I'm betting they're pretty similar.

It's always better to bring up these things in their proper context.
  6. Is this a Loyalists arc thing, because I really haven't seen endless waves of ambushes running Resistance. Maybe a mission or two, but not as much as everyone is making it sound. I ran through both parts of the Resistance arcs with my DP blaster and didn't really have a problem outside of one mission.

I'm also wondering if the issue raised initially is a stalker problem rather than just a Praetoria problem.
  7. The Snark is strong with this one.

It will serve him well in the days and months to come.

    Welcome aboard, Z!

In fact I think I'm going to make this character with dual blades using those short daggers. It'd be awesome if later on down the road we get this kind of garb.

Notice how the loin cloth is actually very similar on the back side to the hip-capes the widows have, it should be rather easy to manipulate to form this.
Yes. Tribal themed accessories would be great. Maybe a bone skirt that falls around the waist like the samurai gear does. Piercings with large bones, tusks, etc, or feathers in the hair. What would also be great is pelts as headgear or over the shoulders like a cape, or something similar. Not every animal themed character is actually an anthropomorphic beast. Some just want to resemble one, or look like one from afar.

    2010 4Q earnings

    Exactly.

If Going Rogue did nothing but keep a large chunk of people that were about to leave hanging around and resubbing, and only brought in a few new people, it did it's job.

Expansions usually aren't designed for new players. They're to give the long time players something new to do, and to advertise to the rest of the gaming community that "Hey, we're still around." CoH 2...now that would be something aimed at a new audience. Updated engine and graphics, different game mechanics, but with the same IP.
  10. Yesterday I was running some Hero Tip missions with a character that has a Cardiac Rare boost slotted, which gives a level shift. I was noticing that some of the missions were not properly shifting the mobs to the appropriate con, but others were.

Devouring Earth missions: shifted just fine every time I did them.

Arachnos and Carnies: In at least two missions, the first time I entered the mission they were higher than they should have been. Lvl 51 minions were yellow instead of white, etc. I tried fighting them as normal, and after dying and going to the hospital, re-entering the mission seemed to fix them to the correct level. I don't know if simply exiting the mission without dying and coming back in would have fixed it because I didn't do it. I also unslotted the boost and put it back in to see if that would do anything. (It didn't while inside the mission, though I was dead at the time)

My difficulty is set for 0/+2 No AV.

When teamed up with a partner, and running more missions, the level shift worked just fine. Fought Council and Malta.

Has anyone else had weird issues with level shifting? I only have one character with a slotted Alpha, and have only used a Cardiac, so I don't have any experience with the other kinds of boosts.
  11. Feather Burst costume change emote: There is a large delay at the end of the POOF before the costume actually changes. At least a full second. Fur Burst is much better.

    Music and CoH???

I watch TV while I play....
  13. Beast run needs a bit more "beast" when you're jumping. Cats jump with their front paws out in front of them, and their rear legs stretched behind them while in the air, and then the paws come together at the landing. Could the animators work that in instead of jumping from just the hind legs? What we have now seems bland compared to the Ninja Run with it's flipping movements as the character jumps.

It also really needs some sort of snarling or grunting noise that plays as you run. Again...more "beast" in the Beast Run. I like it, but it just needs more.

Suggestion for future emotes: /e scratch. Furry things get itchy. If you're gonna have a fleas aura, scratching should be part of it. Maybe make it an idle animation while Beast Run is active?
  14. Looks like a decision needs to be made about how much anti-teamers want a Notice. (I refuse to say Soloists, because everyone solos here and there.) It takes about an hour, hour and a half to run a TF and get that Notice, plus you'll end up with merits and shards. It might take a week, maybe two, or more, to earn enough shards to craft one yourself, and maybe you'll make enough inf on the other drops you get to break even.

They said they'd put a system in, they never committed to how easy or hard it was gonna be.
  15. When someone actually completes one, they'll let us know what they get.

I was getting shards, tips, and other usual stuff as the fighting ensued.

Badges were turned off for testing today.

Think it was the Valk set) gone back to any categories introduced in any booster pack.

So keep in mind that as far as animal heads in these categories goes: this is it. Don't expect new bird head patterns or cow patterns or what not on any of these parts. Don't expect hats to later be added to these heads. etc. So if any particular thing is glaringly missing, now is the time to state clearly and firmly that this pack really needs X. And in doing so, try to keep your assertions reasonable. i.e., an entire new suite of house cat body patterns as Avatea already stated is out of the question. But perhaps a single fox two tone pattern for the canine head isn't?

Personally, I'm concerned that they don't have enough time to really polish the beast run which I agree with many posters feels incomplete currently.
    Repeat this mantra:

Just because they've been doing it a certain way in the past doesn't mean they won't ever change that standard in the future.

There is very little in this game that has stayed the same since it was introduced. Once they get a good base of categories, there won't be much to add as a complete and separate booster, so the next step would be to flesh out what's already there.

Looking at the markets, and what moves and doesn't, I'd say the most desirable drops are NOT dropped from lvl 50s, outside of Purples. Those are the only ones that are available on most of the best enhancements.

And if those are so desirable, why are so many people parking their characters at certain levels just to generate lower level loot?

I say risk balances out with reward in the long run. If you fight something that's easy for your character to fight, the risk (and the effort) is low. If you fight something tougher, the reward seems less because the effort is greater. But you can't label something hard because it probably isn't hard to someone else. How are you gonna decide what to give a bigger reward to? Fighting +1 Council is still easier than fighting -1 Malta. What level it is shouldn't be a determining factor at all. I've got certain characters that mow through Knives of Artemis like they aren't there, and others that have to be real careful. How do you determine risk when there's such a range of experiences from the same player?

It's bad enough now that we're having to say "We need to do the WST, and therefore you can't play with us tonight" to folks, or to not have 8 people on with high-level characters available and be forbidden to even *attempt* the WST.
You keep saying "need" but there is no need. Incarnate content is completely optional to enjoy everything you've been doing together up to now. WSTs are even completely optional, once I20 comes out, to gain Notices.

How you play, and who you chose to play with, is entirely a player decision. If you wanted more people to play with, you'd be playing on a higher pop server. If you wanted to team with people that could run TFs with less than a full team and still enjoy themselves, you'd go find them. If the end game content hems you in, it's only because you chose to let it do so.

There is no "one path to enlightenment" in this game, and Second Measure has gone out of his way with this letter to further prove that point. There will be more than one way to do what you want to do.
  19. Question for a Dev:

Are the animal parts colorable, or are we gonna be stuck with orange tigers and bald eagles?

Did a Kahn run today where we completely ignored the 4 AVs and just pounded on Reichsmann the whole time. With everyone level shifted and buffed from Rares, he went down surprisingly fast, and the only debuffs we had was one Rad.

Hello . . . Earth to dumb hot chick . . . you are supposed to be the paranoid computer geek. Start acting like it. Have you never heard of GPS? The assassins know exactly where their deathbot crashed. Get the frak out of the motherfrakking alley and take the damn deathbot underground where you know the damn thing can't be traced. You already know that concrete messes with it's signals when you ran into that short tunnel in the park.

It was stupid sh** like this that kept pissing me off about SGU plots.
Or maybe they were staying there to wait for whoever sent it to show up and try finding them again? If you spring a trap, sometimes it's good to figure out who laid it.

    The Cape 2/7/11

A good episode. I like that they're moving his family along in their development. The dynamic of another group of people that knows who The Cape is should make things interesting down the road.

Agreed. If the player scales up in ability but the enemies don't, there is little to no challenge. There's a reason you don't see certain mobs above a particular level. They just weren't designed to be fought as a high level enemy, and wishing your bonuses, etc to scale down would take a lot more work to balance than just simply removing the restrictions.

These lower level task forces are easy enough as they are currently designed, and as the player scales down currently, especially with the +5 level cap for powers. Why make them even easier? I've never seen a complaint about them being hard. Generally it's because they're tedious, which is definitely not the same thing.

If your reason for wanting to add Incarnate "levels" of power to your character is to be able to roll through lower level content (like you can't already), why bother with the system at all?
  25. Cap is looking very interesting, and a small glimpse of Red Skull this time.

There's also been another trailer for Cowboys and Aliens, showing more alien tech.
