Quote:No sympathy for someone that uses bandwidth that much. You SHOULD be paying more than someone who doesn't use it near as much. How do you figure that's half of a t1 line?
12 Mbps is double 24 times the numbers you are talking about...
I run vent and a MMO several hours a day, Trillian, often netflix and skype. Not to mention 10-20 youtube vids.... And my PC runs 24/7... maybe not always playing games or looking at the net but i don't turn off my pc so my IMs and such are on 24/7
If it makes people slow their use down even a little, that makes it a little better for everyone else. -
Alright, let's cut down to the nut here:
Let's say there's a EU account global handle called @name. Is there really a difference between that and @EUname? Do you think people will suddenly be confused by the EU in front and not know it's you, or start calling you something different when referring to you?
They're not making you change your individual character names, since they're not killing servers. Global names get changed automatically in your chat lists, so everyone will still know it's you. What's the real issue here? No one is losing their identity. People will still refer to you as name.
If we're gonna argue and get riled up over something, let's at least argue over what this whole thing is really about, rather than taking up some mystery cause and making up hypotheticals that probably won't ever happen.
People with multiple accounts on both sides all with the same name are a separate problem, and should be dealt with in their own way.
NCSoft made their decision because they considered all the angles. Avatea confirmed upthread that they talked about everything that's been brought up by players. They weighed the outcomes and chose, like they get paid to do. You're getting access to NA servers, EU, which is exactly what you've been wanting. The vast, vast majority of you won't be affected by name clashing at all. The few that are have just been told months in advance what will happen. I'd say that's about as good an outcome as it could be. -
Since they haven't addressed your concern about vet accounts vs new ones, there's no need to panic over it yet. Waiting for their answer might save folks some grief.
-
Look at it this way:
Euro servers are the ones moving onto the NA list. It's totally fair to expect the EU accounts to have to change names if necessary.
If it were the other way around, it would be totally fair for the NA accounts to have to change.
Avatea's logic about the least number of people being affected is correct, as Arcana pointed out. The "If I can't have it, nobody can" way, or the "First come, first served" way involves twice as many people. In both instances, both parties in conflict would have to do something to either keep their name or change it. In the way NCSoft chose, only one side does. It makes sense for logistical purposes if anything.
If you really want something to hang your hats on, EU folk, you guys get 11 more servers worth of slots, while us NA folk only get 4 :P -
Quote:If I observe that a particular character is going to be vulnerable to whatever we're fighting, either by their play style or just a bad power match-up, you bet your sweet bippie I'll be hitting that fortune on them every time it comes up and the previous one wears off, whether in the middle of a fight or not. It's not a big deal to me, but I am a little surprised at how often a teammate will stop to read your fortune in the middle of a fight. I always think, "Really? Is that the most useful thing you could be doing at this moment?"
Played this way the entire time Fortunes have been around, and zero complaints.
Generally, for ease of use on teams, I try to establish the "buff the guy below you on the list, last one buffs the first guy" rule. Then you only have to worry about one person, unless someone doesn't have the power at all. -
I don't see how a game can avoid creating content that doesn't push some people into uncomfortable choices. There is no content that 100% of the players are satisfied with, and no content that is 100% satisfactory to any one person, so the game evolves to try to get closer to that ideal. This game is an MMO, by definition an unfinished product, and therefore also has to evolve or die.
There are so many different groups/types of players in our "universe" that any nudge in focus in a particular direction will result in other groups getting their toes stepped on slightly, or more than slightly, depending on where they fall. The ideal situation would be for the Devs to be able to nudge content in all directions by some degree every time they put out major updates, but resources force choices on them: only so much time, only so many people, and the much bigger constraint of trying to keep everything germane to the over-arching story they're trying to tell.
I expect the game to evolve and change as I play it. The things I grew comfortable doing 5 years ago aren't the same as they are now, and that's alright. I'm not sure that the attitude of "give me a toy that I like and leave me alone, I'll play with this same toy forever" jives with the nature of an MMO, especially one where the leadership and majority of developers has changed over its lifetime. -
Quote:It shows nothing of the sort. And the fact that it's wasn't ready - and still in development - shows that it was not made in the same development that produced Going Rogue, as it was released after Going Rogue.
Powers people worked on both, and went back and forth as their tasks were completed. Art team did the same.
How many people do you think work at Paragon, anyway?
They had a system that could have been released with GR. They tested it in the same Betas as GR, but it wasn't working like they wanted, so Positron decided to pull it back and rework it. That in no way implies the Incarnate system and Going Rogue weren't meant to synchronize around a common story.
Any more "facts" you want to go find that support your theory, or would you rather look at the evidence first and then come up with a conclusion? -
Quote:There are also thousands of combinations of pieces that are already free and available at level 1. Why are we getting bent out of shape over 1) something we haven't even seen yet, and 2) something you couldn't possibly have made a concept in your head around because you haven't seen the parts yet?Customization is a core focus of the game. If it wasn't, they wouldn't devote entire issues to it, or make a healthy profit selling purely cosmetic items for real money. We have plenty of things to work for and unlock (inventions for instance). Clothes should not be one of them. Maybe if that shirt gave me +3% RES you might have a point.
And for some of us, this game is all about dressup.
Why is it that powers that can define your character concept be ok as Incarnate only content, but costume pieces that define your character aren't? Are we venturing into "I'm ok with something as long as it doesn't affect me directly" territory?
Also, using what people do on Virtue is not a good example. Those folks are crazy -
Priority list that every development company follows (from highest to lowest):
1. New content
2. Fixing things that are broken and unplayable
3. Fixing things that are broken, but playable
4. Fixing things that aren't broken, but need some more fleshing out; updating legacy content to mesh better with newer content
5. Wish list content (i.e. "Wouldn't it be nice if...)
In this game, new content is gonna focus on Praetoria and Incarnates for the most part because those are the newest items. They will spend the majority of their resources on this, until they're finished. Since we're getting it piecemeal over several Issues, it's gonna take a while. Then they'll try to get to the other things on the priority list. Sometimes they have time and a plan to fix some things, or give us QoL features, sometimes they don't. If you're not getting the content you want, chances are your wishes are further down the priority list, and they'll get to them as they can, if there's nothing new that takes up their time. That's the way all games are made.
As others have pointed out, focusing on one area for an Issue or two has happened in the past. Villains got several Issues of attention when they came out, which is no different than Praetoria. Inventions, the AE system, and Ouroborus were all Issues that focused on game systems more than the content that utilizes them. In these examples, there were a few bones thrown out to satiate those that didn't care for the content being focused on, just as there will be things in the coming Issues that get thrown in that don't have much to do with the Issue's theme. Don't see anything you like? Wait an Issue and keep playing the same way you've been up to now or stop your sub and renew it when you see things you do like. Complain about it, as long as you have something more constructive to add to the discussion than "This sux!" or "Devs are ignoring (insert group)."
If you're really that bored with the content up to now, and you don't see anything in the horizon to make you change your outlook, why are you still giving NCSoft your money? I'd rather play with less people if the ones that stay are generally happy** with the game they're paying for, than play with those people plus a group that has nothing but negative to say about anything that's coming down the road, and have been repeating their displeasure for months and sometimes years.
**note: "Generally Happy" doesn't mean they don't have problems with the game. It also doesn't mean they don't voice their displeasure. What it does mean is that those people know how to explain their point with examples, and with better ideas if they're slamming the ones the Devs have come up with. Positron, et al will listen to people that have ideas, not just vitriol. If you don't give them something better, why would they change? -
Quote:They doubled their staff just to add Praetoria into the game world. Does it make any sense at all to drop the story they've started when it's still in its infancy? Would NCSoft and the shareholders jump for joy to see all the money they shelled out for development get pissed away on an expansion that stopped being expanded upon before a year is even up?Or we could just let the Devs get Goatee Paragon out of their system fast so that we can get on with a decent storyline for a change.
Despite the good news on the server list merge, the news that the obsession with Praetoria continues unabated is still disappointing to me.
If you don't like Praetoria, don't play in it. The rest of us that have been wanting it since Maria Jenkins' arc was put into the game will continue to enjoy it, and expect that the Devs continue down the road they've started down with Going Rogue.
In case you missed it, they did say that they'll continue adding in content for the lower levels all throughout the game, which is exactly what you seem to be wanting. -
Nothing says "Epic" like some Strauss:
Also Sprach Zarathustra a.k.a. Theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey -
If it's a matter of a day or two that you missed, you might be able to petition Customer Service and get it. I don't see why you shouldn't get it if you're active now, and the only day you missed was on the front end. They've made exceptions for others when their subs got messed up for various reasons. The worst they can do is just say no.

For the record, it's not broken. It's WAI.
It's unique, but not broken. -
Quote:How so?
This system has the potential to be the first point in this game's development where, if a person wants to pursue the new content, it'll have to be at the exclusion of everything else the game has to offer.
Shards drop for a 50 just like Purple IOs do right now, doing whatever a 50 does against lvl 50 critters. This hasn't changed with Incarnates. Soon, Shards will drop for a lvl 50 doing ANYTHING in the game as long as their Alpha slot is unlocked.
Other items needed for Incarnate content are only available while doing said content, and can only be useful while doing said content. If that content isn't important to you, you don't have to touch it. Be happy with your Alpha slotted, level shifted self and go to town on the entire rest of the game.
The mechanics don't lock you out or force you to choose. You do, by what you deem important. It's no different functionally than choosing to play a Brute over a Scrapper. You could argue that the mechanics behind the two ATs "force" you to play one over the other if you prefer a certain playstyle and have particular tastes, but again, that's YOU making that choice and distinction, and making it important enough to affect your decisions.
You also make choices every time you log in. If you want to farm some Vanguard Merits by running some Mothership Raids, you are, by default, excluding yourself from all content that doesn't get you Vanguard Merits, and even narrower in focus, you exclude even running Rikti missions because they're inefficient compared to running a Raid. If you choose to alter your costumes, or perform a respec a different day, you are choosing to forgo actually playing and progressing your character during that time. Was that a detriment before? What has changed now?
The Incarnate system is designed to be different than the normal path to progression because it has to be. By choosing not to raise the level cap, XP is taken out of the equation, as well as gaining new powers or enhancement slots in the traditional sense. In its place is a reason to do Incarnate content over and over. Making level shifts from the newer slots effective only during Trials is part of that incentive. There is nothing wrong with this tactic, and there is zero evidence that the rest of the game is headed down a similar path, no matter how many Chicken Littles there are screaming that the sky is falling.
There are no orcs running around Paragon City, no giant dragons flying overhead, and last time I logged in, it didn't say World of Heroes on the splash screen. The Devs are not turning this game into a clone of another. If they wanted to do that, they would have made it and been brushed by the wayside by the 600lb gorilla. -
Sometimes rewards are granted upon log-in. If you don't get it the next time you log into the character, then bug it.

Quote:Find people that aren't build-nazis. Level shifted characters won't care if there's someone on the team that isn't hitting anything. Hell, find a team that has vengeance, and you'll be their best friend. Totally serious.
Next time someone starts an Apex TF, why don't you try to get a character with an empty Alpha slot on the team?
You've managed to find an extreme case to try to prove your big point. If that's all you have to go with, your argument is flawed. Apex and Tin Mage are not required for anything but perhaps getting a badge or two.
Play your alts. If you've got a ton of them, like many in this thread claim, you should be good enough at this game to take weaker-soloing builds and manage not to die. Teaming is not required for 95% of the game, and that still hasn't changed, even with Incarnates. If you want to do the remaining 5% of the content, you know the requirements, and you'll do what it takes to meet them, like everyone else. That also has not changed since the game began. -
Play your alts the way you used to, and don't worry about "grinding." Just let the stuff drop as it comes, and whenever you get around to getting enough stuff to create boosts, do it then. If you don't want to feel pressured to do something, don't put the pressure on yourself.
One of the good things about the Incarnate system as it is, is that you don't have to run the WSTs, you won't have to run the Ramiel arc to unlock the Alpha once I20 drops, and you don't even have to do any of the TFs that have Incarnate components as rewards. Shards drop in any lvl 50 content now, and soon they'll drop for everything once you unlock the Alpha. If "having it right now" isn't your bag, you don't have to play that way, and there's plenty of other folks that fall in that category.
Besides, once the crowd that grinds gets the highest level gear on them, they'll have nothing else to do but play as they used to anyway, and they'll be available to play at your speed again. -
Quote:Even if the Devs revamped every old zone in the game, you still wouldn't see many people "on the streets" unless all the new content was zone-based and not instanced. That and the Devs' unwillingness to go back and revamp areas, preferring instead to create more new and shiny areas that thin the population even more. I'm not saying I don't like new zones, I do, but each time a new one is added, it spreads as even thinner.
I'm curious to see what comes up tomorrow. If the answer to 'what is next' for CoX is 'more Praetoria' there might be screaming. :P -
Lobo....come on, folks. THE MAIN MAN!

Quote:Nah, see, I try not to judge a movie before I've actually seen it. I avoid spoilers, I don't pay attention to reviews, and I give it my honest effort to like or dislike it. That's called being reasonable.I'm pretty sure you're the on that forgot it. Or just didn't listen in the first place.
You, on the other hand, have already made up your mind months before the movie is out that it's trash, based on some half-baked trailers and whatever fanboi sites you troll.
I might dislike the movie after I've seen it, but only because the actual movie disappointed me, not someone else's opinion of it. You dislike it before you see it, based on someone else's opinions and biases, and there's a big difference in the two, and if you haven't figured that out by now, there's no hope for you. You post in these threads with your "opinion" but since you haven't given it a fair chance, why should anyone care what you say? If you had waited till after the movie to say "It sucks, and here's why," you'd have a leg to stand on.
Like it, don't like it, I don't care. Just pass judgment with some first hand knowledge of it first, and a trailer doesn't count. We all know how most trailers have little footage that actually make it into the movie, and how early into production they get made. -
Every time I've done the Bomb Trigger tip, Maelstrom's been invisible until you defeat the mob he spawns with, then he goes visible and you can talk to him, then he turns on you, and he ports when you beat him. Several times I've cleared the entire map before finding the Oberst, and had to backtrack to go find where he spawned, other times the Oberst is in the front of the map and Maelstrom was easier to find.
I have also noticed that he doesn't have the Maelstrom device on this version of him, which I find odd. When I ran into him in Praetoria he had it, but that was a while ago so I don't know if he still does. -
Two of the four new slots will give a level shift (forget which two at the moment), but the shift only applies while doing the Incarnate Trials themselves. You'll still get the other benefits of the slot everywhere else, but no shift.
Word is the abilities we'll be able to tap into will more than make up for not shifting higher. Especially when you're teamed with others that are at a similar power level. -
Magic is merely a scientific trick that hasn't been explained yet. Once you know how the magician pulls a rabbit out of his hat, it's not magic anymore and you'll never look at that trick the same way again.
