  2. CoH: A game about superheroes and supervillains, following many staples of a comic as they tell the stories, including monologues, which are much better and conveying mood than dialog in the middle of a fight.

Frankly, I'm surprised we don't have more cutscenes, and I wish we did.
  3. If we're going to agree that not everyone likes the new content, can we also agree that not everyone hates it as well? Not everyone likes running the same content over and over, but not everyone hates it either.

There are those that seem to know that there's both, but some of y'all seem to apply personal experience to the entire community (IE if it applies to you, it applies to everyone).

If you're gonna jump down someone's throat for daring to defend the content as something fun to do, why are you getting mad when someone's jumping down your throat for trying to badmouth it? People are belittling you because you're not agreeing with them? Aren't you doing the same thing to them in response?

If I don't like something, I just ignore it. I don't play it and complain about it all the while. That makes no sense.

I dont see myself getting 30+ trials done just to have a chance at a tier 4. From what I hear its supposed to be easier than getting a tier 4 alpha but it really isnt it just takes less time since you can keep running it versus the 1 notice per week thing. I would have to say my biggest gripe is how it seems to take more xp to unlock the judgement side than it does the interface side. All slots should be the same xp to be fair. Or they could at least let you pick which one you want your xp to go towards. Some slots wont get much use so its kind of unfair to force it on you.
So don't go for the Tier 4. As many have pointed out, and as you should know from the Alpha slot, you're not really getting a huge increase from 3 to 4. 3 gets you the shift and the various options to maximize the variety of your chosen slotting.

You weren't told the whole story. The only thing about those slots that are limited within the trials themselves are the Incarnate Shifts. The powers themselves work like the Alpha slot powers do.
  6. The speed of gathering needed salvage the solo way has nothing to do with being bored running the same content over and over x10 IN ONE DAY.

If you know that new content past what we just got is a while down the road from going live, what's your hurry doing the new stuff? Do you think that being tricked out to the max will suddenly make these trials better if you don't like them much now?

You like cake, you eat one piece, maybe two if you're a pig. You don't eat the whole cake in one sitting, and then complain later that you're sick of cake and expect any sympathy.

The truth is no one knows what's really coming down but the Devs. Yes, it's safe to assume we'll be getting more Incarnates, but beyond that is anyone's guess, and there will be more, because every Issue has had more than one focus to it.

Logging in more than once could be considered "grinding" by your definition.

Better stop playing. You've been grinding for years.
  9. I don't think I've ever seen anyone turn down a player that had the same abilities that someone else on the team already had. If one is good, two is better.

Similar abilities =/= same abilities. There are some things that resemble what certain ATs or powersets can do, but they're not the same in all aspects. Plus you need to consider that one of the reasons they're giving us these extra abilities is that we'll need them at some point down the road. Incarnate content will continue to get harder (hopefully) to match the growing abilities we gain.

No one is getting obsoleted unless they choose it willingly.
  10. So...8 people on a team is just fine, but 9 or 10 isn't?

That's really what the OP and a few that agree with him is saying. They want their definition of team content to be applied to everything.

These raids have very little in them that require the entire League to be doing the same thing at the same time. In the BAF, you can easily split up and finish the first objective. Fighting Nightstar with one team, while the others hold off her reinforcements in the second objective. Splitting off to the different spawn points to catch escapees in the third. Using the same tactics on Siege (one group fights him, the others are support/defense). Splitting the groups between the two AVs together so they both fall at the same time.

The Lambda trial: Teams can go different directions around the outside of the complex to finish the first objective fast, then split to take out the turrets if they want. Once they clear out the courtyard and then the Guardian AV, they HAVE to split up if they want to do the rest in the easiest way possible. Once Marauder shows up, one group can be shutting down the portals, and the other deals with the big guy.

I'm not seeing the places where having more than 8 people in a trial is a detriment. Can one of you point them out for me?

If you're feeling useless on a large team, that's what a League is for. Make a smaller one and go to town. You don't have to do everything at max capacity. No one should be feeling useless regardless. It means you're either not doing something you're supposed to be doing, or you're choosing not to help.
  11. You can also wait for the fix that's coming from the Devs. They mentioned the XP issue in their list of bugs that they're working on. That might fix it for you, and you can continue to play with SP2.

You probably could have apologized a little better, since it was you who jumped down the OPs throat. It wasn't obvious, as you saw from the response where she said she hasn't been playing long enough to know things like how long Purple recipes have been in the game.
  13. When you do the special Tip mish first, the second part of it has you go talk to Mortimer Kal, so there's not really a need to go look for him.

The Admiral is hard to miss on his boat. Go between the hospital and the building next to Statesman's boat (moving from the train station) and you'll see it.
  14. Player 1: "I've got a Luck Charm for sale. 10 inf and it's yours."

    Player 2: "I won't pay an inf under 200,000!"

Player 2: "Why are you being so greedy? Take my thousands and enjoy!"

Player 1: ".... I don't think you understand what greed means."

Player 2: (later) "The market is so mean to me...I had to pay 200,000 inf for a Luck Charm!"

Player 3 (an alt of Player 1): *snicker*
  15. Anything in the game that requires a check of your account to be unlocked for you, including Wisp auras, will not work if the account server is down. You'll have it back when they get the Account server back and running like normal.

Why are we going out of our way to browbeat people asking for greater accessibility and greater comfort with what amounts to excuses? That this doesn't exist now is not the end of the world, but this is still something that SHOULD be worked on. Arguments to the contrary only serve to stifle the game's progress.
I'm not browbeating about accessibility, I'm arguing that it doesn't need to be worked on because people are making an issue out of something that is entirely their own making, not the new feature.

Where would people put this on the grand scale of Important Things to Work On? I'm betting fairly low, even for the people wanting this.

To ask you a similar question, why are people going out of their way to nitpick about how a feature isn't exactly how they want it when it works just fine the way it is? Why are they calling out references to "the other games" to support their points when those same people are lamenting that CoH is slowly turning into "those other games" by focusing on endgame?

Start Sentinel and Mids, then start CoH. Once you log into the world, tab and go to Tools on Sentinel and export. It takes the live character info and builds a Mids data chunk.

Then tab over to Mids and import, just like you were copying a data chunk from the forum. Voila! (No, it doesn't work the other way- you can't use a Mid's build and /respec your character. )
Sounds like that takes longer than just using your eyes while you're playing the game and counting, but that's just me.
  18. Why do people feel the need to run solo missions while they're queued? If you want to run a Trial, you're telling folks that you're ready to go when the thing starts. If you're in the middle of a mission, you're not ready.

Take that time to market if you need to be doing something. Or better yet, be active by forming a League to run the trial instead of waiting for the Turnstile to send you in.
  19. My question for those that are having a hard time staying alive:

What the hell is the rest of your team doing?

If you're not coordinated, you won't win. It's not any simpler than that.

Is reading about something before you do it so painful? You post in these forums so you must read things about the game occasionally, right?

People go through the learning process in beta and write up very nice guides so folks like you don't have to faceplant constantly from ignorance. If you still choose to faceplant in the face of information that's available, you're doing it from willful ignorance, and there's nothing we can do about that.

When you run older content with a less than optimum team, do you still use the same strategy you'd be using if you had exactly what you needed? The trials are no different. If brute force isn't working for you, try a different approach. Your character is only one-dimensional if you play it that way. Any team, with any combination, can run these just fine if enough people understand how the trial works and people listen to instruction.
  21. The best part of it is knowing if you can still grab a certain level set bonus and not lose out on the Rule of 5.

Now if they just put things in alphabetical order, or group them by type of bonus (accuracies, damages, etc)...
  22. I think you'll find a ton of people that would beg to differ on your viewpoint, and if you take a step back, think a minute, and then ask one of them, they'll help you with your build issues. You said it yourself in your post. You're built for S+L, and you're fighting things that are neither. You should expect to have issues if you're matching up against your weaknesses instead of your strengths, especially in these trials where everything is max level.

You don't have to be purpled out for anything, but these Trials, and other Incarnate content yet to come, is designed to be harder than standard content. Standard strategy doesn't work anymore.

If a power only affected the team you were on before I20, it will still only affect the group of 8 you're in while in a League. If it covered whoever was in your range, it will still do so.

Not to downplay your problems, but if the old updater was still "just fine" they wouldn't be having us use the new one. I'm happy for the faster download/patching times.

Just like with graphics, they can try to make sure those with older cards and slower connections can still play, but at a certain point, they can't reasonably be expected to throttle down just to keep a few people playing. The longer it's been since the latest service pack for XP was released, the weaker your argument becomes. That's progress, and it happens everywhere.

That's still not buying shards, because you can't get them from anyone else. That's just a really inefficient way of collecting them. You can buy a purple on the market.
