Gandalf and Bilbo finding the ring are more than enough or a tie in to The Lord of the Rings... this movie makes me fear feature bloat.

Like I said, I'm hopeful that the two movies will be solid and I'll want to watch them as much as I have the LOTR movies. But the move still seems questionable, and not everything in the original movies was great (piles of falling skulls was one brief but notable thing, just to name one). The production values will be there, by all accounts of the pictures, but I'm also not so silly as to get my hopes too high, even with directors and actors that I like.
I would posit that The Hobbit does indeed merit two movies. The first one deals with them on their journey. There is a lot of stuff going on and none would get enough attention in one movie.

The second movie deals with Smaug, both in his lair with Bilbo, and the attack on the human settlement, plus the journey back.

If they tried to do justice to the entire book in one movie, it would be 4 hours long, and no one can sit that long in a theater. That also loses both the film studio and the theaters that show the movie money. I would much rather see more of each encounter, spread over two movies, than a rushed, heavily edited single movie.

I don't think it's the lack of polish...I think it's the fact that it's an origin movie. Origin movies don't seem to balance showing the "this is how our hero came to be" with "Ok, now that they're ready to fight the problem in the present, let's let them do it" very often.

In GL's case, I think they went too far on the side of resolving the conflict. I agree that not enough time was spent on his training (and instead spent on him deciding whether he was worthy). I wanted more Kilowog, if anything. Even 5 more minutes of him training, explaining how the rings were made or what they can do besides project energy or put you in a nifty suit would have been enough.

I liked the movie a lot. I thought the story differences were small enough to not be jarring, and I thought all of the actors were fine. I don't think I would have written Sinestro as so accepting of Jordan after Hal's conversation with the Guardians (to me, Sinestro never accepts Hal as a worthy Guardian, especially wearing Abin Sur's ring. He appreciates his power only after fighting against him, but that comes much later in the canon).

I also think comic geeks need to ease up on their nerdrage over most comic movies. They accept storylines written by numerous writers that almost always diverge and conflict with each other, but they can't accept a movie plot that does? That makes no sense.

I will say that with this backpedal on "Owning Going Rogue and keeping the things you paid for" (or legalese swapping when you have examples like "You still have it, you just can't use it!") that I don't think the premium plan is going to be anywhere as attractive as initially shown.

Which is fine, it's a business, they have to make money, they can't give the house away for free.
You're looking at Premium the wrong way. What it is intended to be is a thank you to people who have already subscribed in the past. It allows them to continue playing for free if they have to (though in an understandably restricted way. Have to differentiate between free and paid subs) Players don't lose anything their accounts already have to the aether, which is the best thing about it.

Having and using are two very different things, and that's the line they've drawn with the Premium/VIP boundary. There is nothing sinister about that.

Praetorian characters aren't required to complete the conversion right now. They are only left with no other options once their arcs are finished and they out level the zones. You don't have to leave, but there's nothing to do but not level at the moment. Adding more content shouldn't change that. We'll probably have the option to leave starting at lvl 20, or we can stay and continue the story in First Ward, and then leave.

I guess you are adding this in to continue the story from level 20 in Praetoria, but it still makes little sense with where other game content is. The level 30-40 range could really use some new stuff, and some level 40+ material would not go amiss either.
Fleshing out Praetoria is a higher priority than filling in level ranges in Primal. They've also been adding in TFs in those ranges.

    Average per year: 2.625 issues

I won't bore us all with the details of each issue, but you state that our continued $14.95 + the incoming 400 points per month should continue to give us the same level of content than we've gotten in the past.

I agree with you. Unfortunately, I don't believe that this is going to be the case as I've stated before. I find it FAR more likely that to get similar levels of content we'll end up paying 50 to 100% more per month just to break even.
Like Arcana stated, it's all going to be about how patient you can be, and how you spend your points. Some of the stuff available for purchase VIPs will already have by virtue of being subbing customers. VIPs will get the same level of FREE that everyone else gets. If this system were not in place, the same situation would apply...everyone gets the same stuff at a base level, and those that pay more get the extras (boosters). I'm not sure how you're jumping to the conclusion that all of a sudden each Issue will be less, and we'll have to pay extra to make up for it. Issue 21 is larger than what we've seen since GR, and everyone that pays gets it, just like if it came out tomorrow.

And, like the gated community that apparantly has deluded itself into thinking that punk kids can't jump or climb things, I imagine they'll be in for the same surprise. The VIP server won't filter out annoying players anymore than Champion's extant setup already does. It just guarantees that if you DO get annoyed by a new player, they'll have full access to begging you for PL/Inf in tells, Mission Architect, and broadcast/request spam... Hrm... Sticking around gets even better the more I think about it...

Pretty much this right here. You might get exactly what you want by moving, but so is everyone from every other server that also plans on switching. Then you're dealing with the headache of veterans that still don't know how to play on a team, on top of playing on a higher load server, which if you wanted that, you'd be on Freedom or Virtue.

    This for me.

Dumping 4 slots on us at once was a surprise to me. I figured they'd spread it out more. Doing it the way they did, now they have periods with new slots, followed by fleshing out the existing ones or giving us an expanded list of things to do with those slots.

I would imagine the next round of slots is a bear to come up with and implement in a semi-balanced way. If we get more than just two more new ones next time, I'd be shocked.

There's little to no elitism or snobbery going on, just people wanting to avoid D-bags.
Amazingly enough, if you ignore a D-bag long enough, they either stop being D-bags so they can join the crowd, or they leave. No switching of servers is necessary.

  11. Over-reacting to this change isn't really a good idea. The Free model is very restrictive for new players:

-2 slots TOTAL (not two per server)
    -No side-switching
-only 8 ATs (no VEATS, HEATS, MMs or Controllers) to pick from
    -no AE access
-very limited market access, and no IOs
-only local, team, and Help chat
-no access to SGs or global channels.
    -no Email
    -no forum writing
-some zones, TFs, Trials, that they can't access at all.
-limited costume choices (no access to booster pack stuff, Vet costume stuff, etc)

There really won't be many people making use of this as so many are predicting. In fact, their status makes it easier for Mods and GMs to pinpoint them when they're abusing the system or griefing.

This system is great for people that had to let their subs lapse. When they come back, they'll still have access to everything they've paid to unlock or gained by Vet reward, plus they'll have more access (by buying and spending Paragon Points) to SGs, global channels, costumes, market access, etc. They won't have any characters deleted, just locked until they pay to unlock them again, or they can just resub and become VIPs again.

The real thing to watch for concerning the VIP only server is the content that will only be available there, as hinted at by the announcements. If it's not worth moving (by the way, every VIP player gets one free server transfer per month) to go play, stay where you're at, and play exactly as you've been doing the whole time. Everyone who stays still gets to play with all the Free Issue content, plus you'll be able to interact with returning players, and you'll have all your characters unlocked and available at any time.
  12. You probably want to post this in either the Player Suggestions or CoH/CoV General discussion thread.

This post makes some good points, but this forum is about bugs and technical problems, and getting advice from other players to fix said things.
  13. If the extra tier 2 is in the opposite tree, it's really not superfluous. The sides give different benefits, and there might be some scenarios where swapping them might be beneficial. Just throwing that out there as a way to use both and not be too bothered by the extra.
  14. Thanks for your years of hard work, EMPulse. Good luck on your new adventure as a mother.

If that's the case, then what's the difference between CGI and animation?

I don't think anyone puts Superman on their list because the special effects were awesome. They did it because the movie was good. An animated movie has a plot, characters, and visuals just like a live-action movie.

I find it funny that people are still equating "grindy" with just gathering loot or end game content. The entire game can be a grind, especially for people with alt-itis, since they're doing the same content more often.

You can't pick and choose what the definition of Grind is to suit your preferences. People have been grinding levels for 7+ years, grinding badges, grinding for unlockable costume pieces, grinding, grinding, grinding, way before Incarnates showed up.

Paragon and NCSoft don't decide what writers on third party websites write about. They choose how to answer the questions, but they don't get to pick what questions get asked. You should probably direct your concerns to Gamasutra and the other sites that these pieces are appearing in.

Glad to see there are plenty of folks that like this movie, even ones that are comic geeks. I'll be seeing it this weekend. Might even spring for the 3D this time (didn't with Thor).
  20. To be honest, you can do a lot better than Trick Shot, or Trickshot, or any other variant spelling, anyway.
  21. All you nefarious types complaining that the Devs Hate Heroes....

what you should be saying is that Devs Love Villains. Something is attacking a heroic zone, leaving the Rogue Isles untouched. Perhaps we should be suspecting a mad scientist or two. Anyone seen Dr Aeon lately?

Just think of them as a really short TF where you're already at the end mission, but with a few more people running around than normal.

Why would you remove the animated movies? Are they not real movies or something?

If you're gonna be restrictive like that, I would add that you can only have one movie from a franchise, so you'd have to choose which of those movies is the best of the bunch to add to the list.

Wouldn't it make sense to assume that if the purge script only ran twice in 7 years of playing this game, it must not be worth the effort because otherwise they'd be doing it quarterly, or something more regular?
